A Witch, A Wolf & A Vampire
A/N: This is the start of the main story now.
Chapter 3: Darkness looms
There had been word across the continent of disappearances that seemed to have no connections. People go missing all the time, especially in third world countries. However, that these missing individuals also belonged to the supernatural world, that was cause for concern. But she wasn't concerned, she smirked as she took the stairs down into the dungeon where one of her still loyal followers was working.
"My lady," he greeted as he continued to take a sample from the demi-human they had taken.
"How is it coming along?" She asked.
"It is going well, the samples that curious Vampire has provided us with have had an interesting reaction to our experiments," he replied.
"And what of the Volturi? Or the ICW?" She asked.
"Aro has assured us the Queens, his sister in particular, has not caught onto our plans and his part in it," the man said.
"As for the ICW, they're too busy with the fallout of your father's failed assault on Hogwarts which ended with his destruction at the hands of the Potter girl."
The girl hummed as she walked around the table looking at their unconscious test subject. She touched the body, cold and hard as diamonds, yes, while this Vampire had once been a legend, Vladimir of the Romanian Coven. Now, under her power and with the changes they would force into him, perhaps he would become the perfect chimera for her army. They just needed to make sure the experiments worked properly.
"Very well, I will leave you to it Dr. Sarkov. Do inform us if you require any more specimens or test subjects to be procured before we are ready to begin the final production." She saw him nod his head eagerly before leaving.
As she approached what was her room in the old worn-down manor that was her base of operations. She smiled to herself, a skip in her step as she entered and locked the door behind her. A wand slipping into her hand as she cast various silencing charms and proximity spells that would alert her if she were to be disturbed. Placing her wand on her dresser and looking into the vanity mirror she smiled as she looked at the moving photograph she had. It was her in her guise at the Yule ball, they had managed to sneak away and take this together. Of course, her love didn't know exactly who she was but one day she would, and she would show her lovely Iris just who she belonged with. The picture shower a shy barely 14 Iris Potter along with her smiling self, appearing just as shy in the visage of Daphne Greengrass. But as Delphine Riddle placed the picture back in its spot, she allowed her glamour to fade, changing the blonde locks of Daphne Greengrass into the dark mahogany curls of her natural state, blue eyes becoming crimson as she began her nightly routine.
"Soon, my love. All will be well, I will give you the world and protect you unlike my father who wanted to control the world and destroy you," Delphine murmured, kissing the Polaroid once more.
"You're a what?" Bella said.
"I'm a witch, in all it entails. I use magic, I can brew potions, I fly on a broomstick… well actually there's a sport called Quidditch, and I use to play but anyways…" Iris said.
"Is Teddy?"
"Yes, his parents were a Witch and a Wizard, good friends of mine. I've glamoured him but Teddy is what is called a Metamorphmagus, he has a bloodline ability to shapeshift much like his mother. Here," Iris waved her hand using wandless magic and the glamour Teddy always wore dropped. His hair changed from dark to auburn red much like Iris's as his eyes turned green.
"Oh, wow…" Bella said.
"Hand him to Rosalie," Iris said, Bella did as instructed and Rosalie was more than happy to hold the young child. Teddy looked up at Rosalie with innocent eyes and a bright smile before his hair turned to match her blonde and his eyes turned gold to match her own, he babbled at her excitedly reaching to play with her hair.
"Whoa… that's cool as," Emmett whispered, a smack from his mate Maggie earned a 'what did I say?' From him.
"While I think we all have questions, how about we take this all back to the house? We should probably talk about what to do about Victoria and Laurant," Carlisle interrupted.
"What about them? Iris scared them so much I reckon they're running as far away as they can," Emmett said.
Iris allowed herself to relax, Rosalie always by her side as she watched the family interact with Teddy and with Bella who didn't ask too many questions about her being a Witch. Though she could not be sure how Victoria and Laurant would react, she couldn't bring herself to overly care either as James had threatened Teddy, she would always fight for her friends but for her son? She would burn the world if it was required.
Prom night was for once an exciting experience, Iris was of course going with Rosalie and Teddy was going to be watched by Esme and Carlisle, Esme was absolutely ecstatic to be able to mother an infant.
Iris and Bella were getting ready together at her house, then Charlie would drop them and Teddy off to the Cullen's where they would all take pictures, including Iris enchanting a magic camera to taking a moving picture for them.
"See, I told you you'd need a dress," Iris said as she helped Bella with her hair, having done her own in a viking braid and tamed it with some hair products her grandfather produced.
"Yeah yeah, laugh it up," Bella mumbled.
"Hey, we're going to prom with our beautiful mates. Ignore Jessica and Lauren, we have got the two most beautiful Cullen's, and everyone is just going to be jealous," Iris replied.
Charlie's jaw dropped quite literally when they emerged from Iris' dressing room, he stammered something about pictures and Iris took pity and helped him, and then took a picture of Charlie and Bella together. Charlie also took one of Iris and Teddy, Teddy smiling brightly.
The drive to the Cullen house was filled with Charlie and Iris teasing Bella who was blushing like crazy and mumbling threats that would never eventuate to anything. When they arrived at the Cullen household Charlie bid them a goodbye as they approached, Esme and Carlisle greeted them with bright smiles and Esme held her hands out as Iris handed over Teddy and his baby bag.
"Okay so let me give you the run down with Teddy's nightly routine. For the moment he's alright to just play, maybe watch some TV if kid's cartoons are available, he likes Sharkdog but make sure to end with something with humans in it otherwise he will shift his face to match sharkdog and well… you can imagine how it looks. At 6pm make sure he gets his dinner, all of it, he'll protest to the sweet potato puree but if you pretend its a broom, he'll eat it. He needs to be in bed by 7pm no later, and if he throws a tantrum just ignore it and he'll stop after 10 or so minutes," Iris explained to Esme who was writing everything down.
"Any nighttime lullabies?" Esme asked, Iris thought for a few moments.
"Truthfully, when I put him down is usually when Tonks and Remus sing him to sleep," Iris replied, Esme raised an eyebrow.
"It's a Witch thing," Iris said, her hand instinctively touching the Resurrection stone hidden on her finger.
"Alright, why don't you and Bella head up to Alice's room to finish getting ready with the girls?" Esme said.
"Rosalie and Edythe?"
"Are getting ready with the boys," Carlisle said with a smirk.
When Iris and Bella went up the stairs to where they knew Alice's room was, they were met by Alice squealing and excitedly pulling them into the room. Bella was sat down in front of a makeup vanity while Iris stood off to the side amused.
"You look gorgeous, Rosalie is going to love it. But I think I look much better with Edward," Laura said with a smirk, her french accent coming through as she put her thick dreadlocks into a high ponytail.
"I cannae agree, Emmett 'n' I look ta' best," Maggie protested, her Irish accent coming out.
"Please we all know Jasper and I will look the best," Alice cut in as she was applying makeup to Bella's face, only the bare necessities had been Bella's only condition for Alice to do her makeup.
The bickering went on between Alice, Maggie and Laura, even Bella participated commenting that she and Edythe would look the best together. Iris rolled her eyes but smiled, her best friend was carefree, and everyone was just talking about a wonderful night they were still to have. For all that she could remember, every ball in the Wizarding world had some kind of agenda or tragedy strike it. For once her Potter luck might not strike.
"The Mistresses will see the two of you now," Jane said monotonously as she led the two vampires through the castle.
"Are you sure about this Victoria?" Laurant asked with a frown, Victoria had pieced him back together when they fled after James' death at the hands of the emerald eyed girl.
"They need to know that a threat with this kind of power exists, perhaps with the Volturi's help we can get justice for James," Victoria replied.
"I know you were close to James; he was like a brother to me as well. But Victoria, he chose to antagonise the girl, he threatened her son. Your instincts as well as mine knew she was dangerous by her very scent, she wasn't human. And he threatened her," Laurant pointed out.
When they entered the throne room, Victoria and Laurant paused for a few moments, bowing their heads in respect as the platinum haired woman in the middle throne stood.
"Welcome friends, I do not believe I have had the pleasure of meeting the two of you yet. Nor my sisters, I am Sulpicia. These are my wives Didyme and Athenodora, what can we do for you today? Jane said you claimed it was of the utmost importance," the woman, Sulpicia drawled out.
"Yes, your majesty. We were travelling through the Olympic Peninsula in the United States when we stopped to potentially play a game of Baseball with a vegetarian coven," Victoria began.
"The Cullens?" Didyme sat up straighter, her brunette hair curled as her crimson eyes paid close attention to Victoria putting her in an uncomfortable state.
"They must be if they inhabit the Olympic Peninsula Di, only Carlisle and his bunny munchers live there," the third queen with raven hair and dark skin scowled.
"They could have come across the Denali's," Didyme said.
"My loves, let the young vampire speak her tale," Sulpicia cut in silencing the bickering she knew was about to start between her two wives.
"Right, well, our coven mate, James. He saw that a few of the members of this coven weren't vampires, and decided he would make a hunt out of the humans," Victoria said.
"And he was killed by the coven for attacking?" Athenodora scoffed at the stupidity.
"No, he never even got a chance. One of the humans wasn't human at all, she killed him with her sticks, she was quicker than our reflexes could keep up with. My coven mate Laurant barely survived, I had to escape with his pieces and put him back together once we were safely away. James didn't survive the flames the girl summoned," Victoria spat.
The guard were silent as the queens pondered this information, a silent conversation took place between the three queens and their mating bond before Sulpicia descended the steps of her throne and held her hand out.
"I wish to see this for myself," Sulpicia said, Victoria frowned and hesitantly took the queen's hand, immediately she was pulled through her memories of the incident, the Queen had the power to read memories with a touch, her instincts told her this ancient vampire was dangerous, but she would gladly show her of her friends demise. It took moments but eventually they were pulled from the memory and Sulpicia had a frown on her face, she recognised what the girl used, wands, but she hadn't heard of anyone who could duel wield with the skills she saw.
"Jane, summon Sanguine. We need his expertise," Sulpicia said returning to her throne and touching both of her mates sharing the memories she witnessed with the both of them. Jane returned in a few moments with the vampire in question, he raised an eyebrow as to why he was summoned as Didyme took out a sketchpad and began to draw a picture of the girl they saw in the memory.
"Victoria, the individual you encountered is a Witch. She belongs to a world much like ours, in fact, their world is more powerful and we ourselves are held to their laws. Sanguine is our representative on their council," Sulpicia explained, Sanguine bowed deeply before he spoke.
"What questions do you have for me my queen?"
"Do you know of this Witch? I've seen their wand waving before but nothing on the level she was capable of," Sulpicia said as Didyme turned the sketch pad, Iris Potter's face and famous scar appearing to him as his eyes went wide.
"You know of her then," Athenodora ground out, her body tense as she sensed Sanguine's fear.
"In their world she was known as the girl-who-lived, but just recently she became the Girl-Who-Conquered. The magical world had a civil war with a tyrant dark lord named Voldemort. The final battle was bloody, but that girl, Iris Potter, she killed him in single combat. A feat no one had ever done except her. From my meeting with the girl when she was sixteen about two years ago, I knew she was dangerous. But now? She is perhaps the most powerful of their species to exist. I heard a rumour that once the battle was over, she disappeared seeking a quiet life after spending nearly a decade fighting battles. Why are you seeing Iris Potter in a memory my queen? Forgive my impudence but having met the girl, it would not bode well if she threatened us," Sanguine said hesitantly, Sulpicia pondered this new information.
"Victoria's coven mate threatened her and her son," Sulpicia explained, Sanguine went wide eyed and almost stumbled.
"We must apologise to her on behalf of our species! You do not understand, one word from her to her people and our entire species would be sentenced to Death. That is the power she commands!" He said desperately.
"She barely looks 18," Athenodora scoffed.
"You will see, my queen, that she smells of death and decay, as if she is a reaper in flesh and blood. As your representative to the Wizarding world, I advise that we apologise to her," Sanguine pleaded.
Another silent conversation between the tree queens took place, a heated debate was going on with Athenodora wanting to show the girl the might of the guard while Didyme was opposing and wanting to do as Sanguine suggested and not antagonise forces even they were weary of. Sulpicia broke the tie and deciding that they should apologise much to Athenodora's chagrin. The raven haired woman stormed out of the throne room in a very unqueenly manor while Sulpicia sighed at her mate and looked to her other mate who shook her head and followed Athenodora to calm her down least she take her anger out on one of the guards.
"We have decided that since you believe the slight Miss Potter may have for us is so great, we will travel to Forks and apologise to her in person. Myself, Didyme and Athenodora will go personally. Sanguine you will come with us along with Jane, Alec, Heidi, Felix and Demetri. Aro, Chelsea, Corin and Afton will remain here along with the rest of the guard and handle everything else until we return. Victoria, you and Laurant will be taken to the dungeon until our apology is accepted by Miss Potter," Sulpicia ordered, immediately they were grabbed by Afton and Felix and escorted to the dungeons.
"Sanguine, have Gianna prepare the jet for us. We will leave immediately once I gather my two mates," Sulpicia said.
"Hello Carlisle," Sulpicia's voice on the phone caused him to pause.
"Hello Queen Sulpicia, to what do I owe this call?" Carlisle replied hesitantly.
"I wished to inform you that my wives and I will be coming to see you and your coven in Forks. We have been made aware of an… incident involving a Witch and some vampires who are currently residing in our dungeon. Would it be correct to say that that Witch resides with your coven?" Sulpicia said, a beat, Carlisle looked at Esme who had a concerned look on her face.
"She is not a part of our coven, but we have become friends," Carlisle said, not wanting to give away their connection to the girl.
"I see, well, if you could politely inform her that we would like to meet with her and… apologise for the incident on behalf of the Volturi. We are even bringing your old friend, Sanguine, with us," Carlisle almost dropped his phone in shock, the Volturi Queens were personally coming to apologise. How important was Iris in her world?
"Of course your majesty, I would be more than happy to pass on your message. I also look forward to seeing Sanguine again."
"We need to call a family meeting," Carlisle said almost immediately, Esme nodded in agreement having heard everything that transpired.
The Cullen family sans Iris and Bella gathered in their home, the mated couples taking up their own love seats while Rosalie and Edythe stood a bit off to the side. All of them looked at Carlisle with concern.
"I just received a call from the Volturi, the Queens are on their way. It seems that those two vampires that escaped from the incident a few weeks ago went to the Volturi," Carlisle said, Rosalie immediately tensed up as her eyes darkened.
"She defended herself! He was threatening Teddy!" Rosalie snarled, many of the others nodding their agreement.
"They are not coming to deliver any punishments, Sulpicia stated that they were coming to apologise on behalf of the Volturi and the vampire species… Rosalie, do you know just who your mate is in her world?" Carlisle asked the question he had on his mind.
"Why does it matter? I've never asked about her past just like she hasn't asked me about my own," Rosalie huffed in annoyance.
"I do not mean to upset you, but you must understand the predicament we may now be in. The Queen's almost never leave Volterra, and all three of them, the elite guard and Sanguine to all come to apologise to Iris. It means she's someone important in her world," Carlisle explained.
"Badass," Emmett smirked earning him another slap on the back of the head from his mate who scowled at him.
"Sanguine? Is that who I think it is?" Laura asked.
"Yes he is. Rosalie the Queens have asked me to pass on a message to Iris from Sulpicia and the other two. They wish to meet with her to apologise," Carlisle said, Rosalie didn't like it one bit but she nodded her head.
"I will let her know, when should we expect them?"
"I imagine by the end of the week," Carlisle sighed.
"Do they know about Bella?" Edythe asked worried.
"They do not as far as I know, but no doubt if Sulpicia reads us she will know so perhaps it best you prepare for the inevitable confrontation. However, given that Bella is Iris' best friend I'm sure she will be afforded some kind of protection," Carlisle replied.
"Iris Potter!" The shrill voice of her best friend of almost 8 years came through the floo almost as soon as she answered, she winced knowing that tone.
"'Mione, it's good to hear from you as well," Iris replied.
"What did you do?" She accused and Iris blanched.
"Why do you always think it's me that starts the fight!" She protested with a pout.
"Because I know you! We lived together for almost all of our schooling and I know when you start trouble!" Hermione stated with a glare.
"But it wasn't my fault!" She insisted.
"Why is it that Shaklebolt got a call from the ICW regarding a call from Sanguine which involved you! I thought you and Teddy were just having a quiet few years before he comes to Hogwarts!"
"We are! But some things happened and they weren't exactly things I had control over," Iris said and she could see Hermione crossing her arms in front of her in her signature disapproving posture.
"That's always the excuse! Damn it Iris! Okay, I'm having to organise some shit to blow this all over. But Iris, we've been informed that the Volturi Queen's are on their way to speak with you about whatever happened," Hermione sighed and Iris paled.
"The vampire threatened Teddy and I! What was I supposed to do 'Mione," Iris growled anger taking over her.
"Look Iris, from what Shak said, Sanguine sounded worried and that you would retaliate against the vampires and we both know the entire ICW would go to war if it came from you. Think about their species they've been good since the new rulers were instated and have kept the statute of secrecy upheld on their end. They're worried what your response will be," Hermione's voice sounded tired.
"Why would I want to attack their entire species? That's dumb, I just dealt with the one who threatened Teddy and I. Besides, my girlfriend is a vampire…" Iris said before she clamped her hand over her mouth wide-eyed.
"GIRLFRIEND! What! How long has this been going on!" Hermione shouted and Iris winced again.
"A few months…"
"A few months you've had a vampire girlfriend and you haven't called me! Iris Potter!"
"It slipped my mind 'Mione! I'm sorry okay I swear I was going to introduce you two!"
"You will be! Ron, Luna and I will be coming to see you soon!" Hermione huffed.
"Wait, why Luna?"
"She's the Head of the Department for Inter-Species relations, honestly Iris have you not kept up with any of your other friends and what's been going on? It's almost been a Year since the Battle of Hogwarts. Hannah and Neville got engaged, Susan's an Auror Captain in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. Lavender is writing for Witch Weekly. The Patil's have taken over their family acromantula silk farm in India. Draco is engaged to Astoria and working diligently as an Auror himself. And Daphne has been travelling," Hermione said, wow Iris had really missed a lot before Hermione hesitated.
"George and Angelina are running the shop, Ginny helps out here and there but she's playing Professional Quidditch for the Hollyhead Harpies so isn't around a lot. Bill and Fleur have just had a daughter, Victorie and Charlie is heading to the states after reports of Dragon's breaking the glamour they have around their reservation."
Fred was a sore spot for Iris as was Ginny, she had dated both of them at one point and while they didn't eventuate Fred was like her older brother much like George.
"George and Angie would love to see you and Teddy if you have some time to come over," Hermione said.
A knock on the front door caused Iris to jump slightly, Hermione paused the call as Iris made her way to her door. She sighed in relief when seeing it was just Rosalie, she let her in with a smile and Rosalie gave her a hug and a deep kiss which had Iris' toes curling and her body breathless. She almost forgot about the call if it wasn't for Hermione clearing her throat.
"Is that a head in a fireplace?" Rosalie asked surprised.
"Uh yes… sorry, I was on a call with my sister-in all but blood, Hermione. Come and meet her," Iris said linking their fingers together as she pulled Rosalie over to the fireplace.
"'Mione this is Rosalie, my vampire girlfriend," Iris said emphasising the vampire word.
"A pleasure, I wish we were meeting under better and more pleasant circumstances…" a pause as Hermione gave Iris the side eye while Iris just stuck her tongue out at her friend.
"I called Iris to inform her about the Volturi's impending visit and that our government was alerted to it by their representative Sanguine."
"Actually, that's why I came over as well," Rosalie said.
"You mean you didn't come just because you missed me!" Iris said with a pout and crossed her arms over her chest.
"I always miss you love," Rosalie apologised and pulled Iris into a hug and kissed her forehead fondly.
"You'd better," Iris mumbled knowing full well Rosalie could hear it.
"The Queen's called my coven leader Carlisle and informed us of their visit and intentions to speak with Iris. I promise you nothing will harm her," Rosalie said, Hermione hummed for a few moments.
"It's more her harming others that I'm worried about," Hermione sighed.
"Yes, she does tend to act instead of think," Rosalie agreed.
"Hey! That is no fair! My girlfriend and my sister aren't allowed to gang up on me!" Iris whined.
"I think we are going to get along just fine Rosalie. And Iris, Ron, Luna and I will be arriving tomorrow."

A/N: As Always, Pat. r30N is a fair few chapters ahead. I will be uploading chapters on fanfiction as I upload a new chapter on Pat. This way I continue to cycle new chapters through and as noted on "This is War" my best writing method is to write multiple stories at the same time so hopefully you enjoy all of them!
