This is a rewrite of 20 Years-Mr. and Mrs. Logan Huntzburger. This was one of the first stories I wrote. If you have already read it, I think reading it again would be pleasant.
This story begins one day before Logan and Rory's 20th wedding anniversary. With three children and the extended family, Logan and Rory navigate the waters of life. This story will be told in present day, December 2027, with flashbacks to explain the waves in the water of the bumps in the road. As always, I DO NOT own any characters of the GILMORE GIRL. Just the ones in my head.
Chapter 1
When: December 7, 2027
Where: The Logan Huntzburger Estate in the Hamptons
Rory is sitting on the balcony, staring out at the Atlantic ocean. She has a scotch in both hands. She is waiting on her husband of 20 years. Tomorrow is their anniversary. December 8th, 20 years ago tomorrow, she and Logan stood before friends and family and too many business associates to count and vowed to love, honor, and cherish all the other things they vowed til death do us part. That is one of the best and the worst days of her life. Her wedding day, the day each of her children were born: Those days hold the best memories, and the worst. She was lost in thought when Logan eased up behind her and put his arms around her. He was kissing her neck. She turned around in his arms and smiled at him. "Do you ever think about what life would be like if Lorelai had accepted my life?" Rory asked.
"Ace, baby, please don't think about that. We have been here for 5 days. 2 of those days alone. We have 2 more before our family gets her to celebrate our wedding anniversary." Logan pleaded.
"I'm sorry, what do you want to do today?" She asked.
Logan looked at his watch. "We have time before our reservation. You name it," he said.
"Let's go for a walk on the beach?" She asked.
"That sounds great," Logan said. Logan grabbed the coats and scarves. The wind on the beach would cut right through you.
Logan and Rory enjoyed a romantic night. They ate lobster and shrimp, and enjoyed listening to the local talent at the local pub. The Hamptons are not hopping in December, but this is where Logan and Rory chose to send their anniversary every year since they bought it. Logan was appointed interim CEO in June 2009. They put in an offer on the house before the ink could dry on Logan's new contract with HPG. They have spent every July in the Hamptons ever since and every anniversary.
It wasn't too late when they arrived back home. Logan was doing everything to keep her distracted. 20 years ago tonight. Rory and Lorelai were in one of the biggest fights that Logan had witnessed at that time. Sorry to say, he has seen some close to and bigger since. Rory tried hard not to put a damper on their celebration. She has worked through most of her resentment toward Lorelai at $350 an hour for one session a week, two and three close to holidays for 12 years.
Logan asked Rory if she wanted to get in the hot tub. She smiled at him. "I'll race you," she said and took off running to the hot tub leaving clothes along the way. Logan followed Rory to the hot tub, laughing as she tried to run in heels. This is what this night is supposed to be like.
20 years ago tonight, Logan remembers standing, with a drink in hand, talking with his dad and Colin. He had been following Rory with his eyes ever since the rehearsal. He watched Lorelai approach her. He excused himself from his dad and Collin. Rory and Lorelai hadn't been getting along. Logan and Rory both were sure it was because he was taking her to California. He decides to ease that way. Maybe he could defuse it before it gets too bad. Logan caught the sight of Emily, Chris, and Luke coming from different directions headed toward the duo. Logan thought to himself, this is worse than I thought. Logan was the last to get to the two. He put his arm around Rory, "Hey Ace, how would you like to dance with your future husband?"
She leaned back into him. "Sounds good."
Lorelai grabbed Rory's elbow. "I want to talk to you first, besides, no one is dancing," she said.
"Mom this is our party, if we want to dance we will dance." She took Logan's hand to pull him to the dance floor.
Chris breathed a sigh of relief until he saw Lorelai grab Rory by the arm. "No, I need to talk to you now," Lorelai said, with more force than Logan was comfortable with.
Emily stepped up. "Lorelai, this is their wedding rehearsal. You can talk with her after." Emily said as she removed Lorelai's hand from Rory's arm.
Rory and Logan danced to several songs. Logan saw the wait staff starting to put out the plates. "Ace, let's find our seats." Logan led her to the main table. Unfortunately, Lorelai was seated next to Rory. Logan and Rory stopped to talk with several couples on the way to the table. It wasn't too long after they were seated that Lorelai sat down.
She leaned over to Rory and whispered, "I need to see you in the ladies' room before this gets started," Lorelai said.
"Mom," Rory whispered. "I will talk with you tonight. I am spending the night at your house." Rory told her.
"I need to talk to you before the speeches," Lorelai said. She took Rory by the hand, stood up. The only thing Rory could do was go with her or make a scene. She had just got Mitchum to support her and Logan's marriage. Shira was coming around. The last thing she needed was to make a scene.
"I'll be right back. If I don't go with her now, she will make a scene." she whispered to Logan.
Rory and Lorelai didn't make it to the restroom. They stopped in one of the empty rooms. "You have my attention. What can't wait?" Rory asked with her hands on her hips.
"I can't let you do this. I have thought about this. Do you realize that you are wasting your education? You will be his wife. Any job you get will be handed to you because of him. You will be keeping his calendar. Sitting at home waiting for him to come home so that you can put a drink in his hand, only to have him leave again to bed his mistress. You won't even have any friends out there to cry on their shoulders. You just need to stop this before he gets you pregnant. If that happens you won't be able to leave." Lorelai ranted. The whole time Lorelai was ranting, Rory was standing there. She couldn't believe her mother thought that little of her. She would never let that happen. Logan was not that guy, but more than that, she was not that kind of girl. Rory stormed out of the room and straight into Emily. Emily heard the commotion and was going to find out what was going on.
"Grandma. Can I stay with you and grandpa tonight?" she asked with a smile. Emily started to ask why, but she saw Lorelai coming out of the same room Rory just left.
"Yes dear, we would be delighted." Emily said.
When Rory returned to her seat, Logan could tell that she was upset. He tried to talk with her, but she told him that they would talk later. Logan knew things with Lorelai had been bad, he just didn't realize how bad. He had been in California since the 1st of June. He has been coming back to Hartford one long weekend out of the month. Rory had been flying to California. Staying a week at a time. She has been interviewing for jobs and setting up housekeeping. He really hated the fact that Emily insisted they spend the night separately. Rory was upset and he needed to be there for her.
