Chapter 7
When: Monday, December 20, 2027
Where: Logan and Rory Huntzburger Penthouse Apartment In Manhattan
"Logan, are you going to be home by lunchtime, or am I going to have to leave you?" Rory asked Logan as he was leaving the penthouse.
"Ace, You had Tina put it on my calendar. You called her Friday to make sure I have no appointments today. I will be here before noon. We will leave on time." He assured her.
"I just….all three kids are going with us. This is the punishment we decided on for the stink bomb. I don't want any surprises this time. Everything I ordered online for Christmas, I had shipped. What I bought, brick and mortar were flown over yesterday along with most of the luggage." I am just ready to get there. Manhattan at Christmas time will cause a sane woman to go crazy." Rory ranted.
The Logan Huntzburger family was on the I495 on the way to the Hamptons. Rory tried to get the kids to sing Christmas carols. After 30 minutes she gave up. All three had earbuds, listening to or watching their phones.
When they arrived, the kids went to their rooms. "Just like being at home," Rory sighed.
"When are we picking out a tree?" Logan asked.
Rory's face lit up."I was told, if we picked out the trees today, they will deliver them with the lights already on the trees by noon tomorrow," Rory told him. This is something they started doing after the boys refused to help decorate. She missed having babies.
After a lot of pouting, some shouting, then came the threatening. Now the happy Logan and Rory Huntzburger family were on their way to pick out the Christmas trees. The decorations have already been brought down. Ready to be put up.
"Now that we are all happy, in the car, and on the way to pick out Christmas trees, I think it will make your mother very happy if you would participate in singing Christmas carols. We all know that if Mom is happy, I am happy. Right now, with the ice being as thin as it is, me being happy is a good thing." Logan said.
"Mom," Hayden said. "What do you want to sing?"
When they got to the tree lot, there was enough snow that they were able to take a sled. After they picked out the trees, they were told about a place where they could go sledding. Logan got the direction. They all had fun until Rory twisted her ankle. Logan looked at it. He wanted to take her for x-rays, but she told him she would be fine. He helped her back to the top of the hill so that she could sit at the picnic tables and watch with her foot up. Rory had Logan bring her a book out of her purse.
Rory was watching her husband and her children playing and having a good time. Richie would be going off to college after graduation. She would miss him. She couldn't help but smile thinking about when they introduced Hayden to Richie.
The whole time Rory was pregnant, they tried to prepare Richie. They told him how great it was going to be. He was going to be a big brother. They had shirts made. He was excited until they had the gender reveal party. When he found out it was a boy, he cried. He didn't want to share his toys.
Because of the chaos when Rory was pregnant with Richie, moving, and Mitchum in the hospital, Rory was not given a baby shower. Shira and Emily made sure they gave Rory a baby shower for Hayden. Rory asked Honor to help. She wanted it to be fun too. Honor talked Emily and Shira into having a modern co-ed baby shower. They had it at Emily and Richard's. The men set up poker tables in the pool house and the ladies had games and opened presents in the main house.
Everything was going well. Rory was having fun, Richie for the most part was behaving. For a 20-month-old baby boy, he was well behaved. That was until he spotted his daddy. He then wanted to go with him to the pool house. He sees his Pops, and his Grampa. He told his momma that "I boy. Me play with boys. I go play with Pops." Rory tried to tell him that he needed to stay in the main house with her. She even told him that she would miss him and she needed him to help her open the presents. That didn't work. He kept going to the french doors, looking at the pool house. The reason Rory didn't want him over there, was because some of the LDB guys were smoking cigars. Logan was probably even smoking.
He helped open a few presents, but when he discovered that he didn't have a present, he wanted to go see his daddy. Lorelai picked him up, she was trying to talk to him. She showed him the cake. Nothing seems to work. Rory got up to get him from Lorelai and tried to calm him down. Lorelai told Rory not to worry she would take him upstairs.
Rory sat back down and was enjoying the party when she saw Richie running across the patio to the open pool house door. Shira and Emily saw it at the same time. The three women took off toward the pool house as fast as two older ladies and one pregnant lady could run. When they finally got to the pool house, Logan was standing outside the door with Richie in his arms.
"Got away from you did he?" Logan asked, laughing. "He can stay, I will get the golf cart out and ride him around." He said.
Colin walked out "Hey man, are you going to finish?"
Logan shook his head. "Nah, I'm going to take Richie for a ride on the golf cart."
"Logan man come on, You are winning. I need to make my money back." Colin told Logan as Logan walked off with Richie in his arms.
"Logan, I'm sorry," Rory said. "Don't worry about it, Ace."
They walked back to the main house. They could hear the guys fussing because Logan wasn't playing poker. Rory was upset, hormonal and her feet hurt. Before she could get back into the main house, She saw Lorelai grinning, standing by the door.
"You think this is funny?" Rory asked.
"Yeah, I told you he would expect you to take care of the kids. You are 6 months pregnant. You couldn't enjoy your shower for having to wrestle with Richie. I just thought Logan should be taking care of him." Lorelai said.
"You sent him to the pool house?" Rory said.
Lorelai, why would you do that. You know they were smoking cigars and drinking. Why would you send your grandson in harm's way?" Emily asked. "He could have fallen into the pool before anyone could have reached him. Lorelai looked concerned, but just for a second, She hadn't thought about that. She shook it off.
"I was watching. I was not going to let him get hurt." She said,
"But you didn't have a problem ruining my shower," Rory said.
"Hey, you are the one that married into this family. I tried to tell you." Lorelai said.
"What are you talking about? This has nothing to do with what family I married into. I do not want my children inhaling the smoke from the cigar. I wanted my son to stay with me so his daddy could enjoy himself. He works so hard,"
Lorelai snorted. By this time Rory had tears running down her face. She keeps trying to clean the snot off her nose with the handkerchief her grandmother gave her. Chirs and Mitchum heard the commotion. They were now outside. When Chris saw Rory crying Chris instantly pulled Rory into him to let her cry.
"Lorelai, how do I know that you are responsible for this?" Chris said.
"I did not do anything. Logan is responsible for her being so hormonal." Lorelai snarked.
Logan sees part of what was going on, but he could not hear most of it. He and Richie were hurrying across the yard in the golf cart. He was trying not to run over Emily's flowers. When he got off the golf cart, Shira took Richie,
"Ace, baby, what is wrong?" Logan took her from Chris. When he had her wrapped up in his arms, he looked toward Lorelai, then Emily, then his own mother. He was trying to decide which one of them was responsible for this crying episode.
She was brought out of her thoughts when she heard Katie squall. She smiled, She was glad they were having fun. Logan came and sat beside her. He was out of breath.
"Are you getting too old to keep up with the kids?" She asked.
"Never. I would rather sit with you." He told her, pulling her close.
On the way home, Logan convinced Rory to let him take her to get her foot X-rayed. Richie took the other two back to the house. Logan would call him when they needed to be picked up. Rory told them to go ahead and order pizza. She told Sandra that she could leave at 5. It was 5:30 now.
