Chapter 10
When: Saturday, December 25, 2027
Where: The Logan Huntzburger Estate in the Hamptons
Christmas morning used to be all giggles with children running in to wake them up. But now, her children are grown. Katie at 14 is the youngest, but even at 14, she is pretty mature. So at 6:00 in the morning, Christmas morning, Rory and Logan were still in bed. Lorelai and Luke came in last night. Rory and Lorelai's relationship, always on thin ice, but after Richard died, Rory made sure to include Lorelai in all activities that involved her grandchildren. The three Huntzburger children had a relationship with Lorelai. When they were smaller, Rory and Logan bought a house in Stars Hollow so that the kids could experience part of the childhood she had. It took some time for Lorelai to warm up to the idea that she would not be babysitting her grandchildren. After Logan and Rory talked with Luke, Luke talked with Lorelai. She was not happy, but this is what she had to do to be a part of her grandchildren's lives. Lorelai was monitored closely when spending time with the children, but as they got older, she stopped being careful.
Rory could hear Lorelai coming down the hall. She heard her knock on Katie's door. Rory nudged Logan. With his eyes still closed, "I hear her. You were pouting earlier that we didn't have any kids to be excited about Christmas, but you forgot about Lorelai." Rory smiled. Yes, her mother was a child at heart.
Rory and Logan got up and were dressed before they heard Katie knock on the door. When she entered the room, she said, "I was hoping you were still in the bed. I wanted to cuddle in bed with you," she said as she crawled up in the middle of their bed.
Logan sat on the edge of the bed. "If you can get Lorelai to leave us alone, we can all go back to sleep." Logan said. Hayden walked in. He too crawled up and buried his face in Rory's pillow. Rory was watching from the bathroom door.
Before anyone could say, we are missing Richie, He came to the door. "What are y'all doing?" The two children on the bed just moaned.
Rory smiled at her children, then grinned at Logan. "Come on, guys. I am sure with all the noise, Aunt Honor and Uncle Josh are up. Logan, call your parents. We will open presents after breakfast." Rory said.
"Can we open the stocking before breakfast?'' Katie asked. Hayden popped his head up. Rory smiled. Maybe they are still children at heart. Before she could answer, they could hear Lorelai yelling from the bottom of the stairs.
The Logan Huntzburger family descended the stairs together. Logan helped Rory, she was still in her boot. Luke was in the kitchen cooking breakfast.
"I am sure your parents won't let you open presents until you eat, so I had Luke up early. Breakfast is almost ready." Lorelai said. Emily cut her eyes at Lorelai. She was not too happy to be up this early. When the children were smaller, She and Richard always woke up early. Watching the excitement on their faces, to see what Santa brought them, was priceless.
Honor and Josh came walking into the dining room, both yawning. "Merry Christmas," Honor said. She got a few Merry Christmas' and some mumbles that she thinks could be Merry Christmas.
They heard the front door open and in walked Mitchum and Shira, dressed to a tee, while the rest of the family were in their pajamas. Even after all these years, Shira could not make herself visit in pajamas.
Everyone ate breakfast. Logan, Rory, and the kids cleaned up the kitchen and loaded the dishwasher. Lorelai kept coming into the kitchen to see how much longer they would be. "Mom, if you would help, it wouldn't take as long." Rory told her. She left them alone.
When everyone got situated around the Christmas tree, Honor and Josh became the self-appointed Santa many years ago. They sat down in front of the tree and started giving out gifts. They started with the stockings, then moved on to the presents under the tree. When they were finished, it looked like wrapping paper and a bow shop exploded. Logan and the boys cleaned up the mess, while Luke and Honor went to the kitchen to work on the Christmas meal. They would eat about 5:30. Honor took cooking lessons when she and Josh first got married. She found out she enjoyed cooking, especially baking, this had become part of the tradition.
About 3:30, Logan and Hayden took two cars to the airport to pick up Chris, Jennifer, Francine, and Gigi, Finn, Rosemary, and MaryLyn. Collin, Steph, and Andy. They all left after the HPG Gala. They spend Christmas morning with their families. Now they would be spending the rest of Christmas with the Huntzburgers.
Right after Andy was born, Colin and Steph bought a house in the Hamptons, but they soon found out they spent more time at Logan and Rory's so Colin sold it. Finn had Morgan Hotels, actually three of them in the Hamptons, but they preferred staying at Logan and Rory's. Their house has 10 bedrooms, 12 baths, 3 half-bath, 15,000 sq ft on 4 acres. 9 Old Town Road has been their home in the Hamptons for years. They love sharing with family and close friends.
When they arrived and got settled, everyone visited and exchanged gifts. Rory and Logan noticed Hayden and MaryLyn sitting close to each other. Logan decided he needed to talk with Hayden then Finn.
Everyone enjoyed the Christmas meal. After cleaning up the kids went to see what was happening in town. Some of their friends from school were also in the Hamptons for Christmas and New Year. Logan and Rory would be hosting the New Year"s eve party at their estate. Rory was due back at the doctor's office Monday. They are hoping her boot can come off.
Chris, Francine, Emily, Luke, Lorelai, and Gigi are headed back home Sunday. Gigi will return Wednesday with Edward. Chris will return Friday. Everyone else will be staying. Collin, Finn, and Logan would be working from the Estate. They had long ago converted the pool house into a 4 room office. While they are working, Rory and the girls will be with the party planner making sure this house is ready for a New Year's Eve Blast.
