The clan managed to make it home, taking their two injured clan members with them. Thankfully, Kaori wasn't too badly injured, neither was Siveth, but she kept woofing and wiggling in Broadway's hold, trying to get to Kita, who was being carried by Hudson. Goliath was carrying the unconscious Brooklyn, who moaned softly, still quite out of it after his ordeal from before, Goliath hoping Brooklyn hadn't sustained PTSD.
When they landed, the young couple were rushed to the infirmary where they called Dr. Sato. He checked on Brooklyn first, having his assistant eventually look after him while he tended to Kita.
He placed Kita under anesthesia and proceeded to extract the bullet from her shoulder. It was a rather grim operation, and Goliath was glad Brooklyn couldn't see what was happening. Otherwise, the young second would've been having a panic attack right about now.
"Please pull through, Kita. Brooklyn needs you," Goliath murmured softly through the glass while the operation went on, before going to see Brooklyn.
Tim, Sato's assistant, was busy stitching up the right side of Brooklyn's cheek and wrapping bandages around his chest and belly, which had bad bruises from Yegor's hard punches. Tim himself was a P.I.T. member and would never give away their location to the Quarrymen. But little did they know the Quarrymen still had more plans and that it wasn't over yet.
It was now two hours before sunrise, when Tim finally finished patching up Brooklyn and leaving him to wake up. Hudson stroked his shoulder gently, waiting.
…
Brook groaned, feeling sick and gummy all over when opening his eyes, feeling like he had been hit by a train, hand touching his stitches on his cheek, eyes opened a bit more but fuzzy. Where was he? The red male then saw the infirmary room and remembered Kita.
"K… Kita…!" He croaked, trying to sit up but collapsed, yelping in pain, seeing Hudson in his view. Hudson kept a firm but gentle hand on his chest. "Don't move, lad. Save yer strength," He instructed, but Brooklyn wanted to get up.
He wanted to see his mate. "Wanna… don't want… keep lying down. Is Kita… is she…?"
Hudson shushed him softly. "No, Kita is undergoing her final stages of surgery, young one. By tomorrow you should be able to see her. Just don't move from this bed until your strength returns. You are tired from the fight earlier."
Brooklyn just growled, squirming a little. "Can't… w-wan…" He mumbled woozily, his head feeling dizzy once again, Hudson stroking his forehead to make him sleepy before sunrise. Brooklyn struggled to resist but eventually, it soothed him into falling asleep once again, just in time too.
Sato had managed to pull out the bullet, stitching up Kita's shoulder as much as possible, right on que for the sun to come up, taking out the instruments on her, hoping that she would feel better the next night, watching the sun turning Kita to stone. It happened the same too with Brooklyn and the rest of the clan.
….
When the clan woke up again the next night, they instantly went to see Brooklyn first, who was feeling somewhat better than yesterday, the stone sleep having healed his bruises and cut. His stitches had fallen out on their own prior to waking up. Sato said Kita should be well enough for him to go visit.
With the help of Hudson, Brooklyn walked over to where Kita was sleeping in one of the rooms in the infirmary, desperate to see if she was still alive.
Hudson stroked his arm. "It'll be fine, Brooklyn. She'll be happy to see ye," he assured gently. Brooklyn was feeling rather weak and sick on the inside from his worrying. He didn't want to lose another love right after they had proposed.
When they opened the door, he saw his true love lying there on the medic bed, still asleep despite having woken up. Being shot took a lot out of her. Brooklyn put a hand on his heart, which was thumping. Despite her looking frazzled, she was still beautiful.
"Kita…" Brook croaked softly, limping over to the gargess, putting a gentle hand on her arm. Hudson pulled up a chair for him to sit down in after he gave her a small kiss on the cheek. Brooklyn then sat down, eager to see her awake.
It was a few minutes when he heard a soft groan from Kita near him. Brooklyn gave a little gasp of hope in his throat when his girl opened her beautiful eyes. She looked weak but was able to see him before her, her eyes squinting at him.
Brooklyn trembled in relief at her finally waking, a big sad smile on his beak. He stroked her cheek. "B-Brooklyn?" Kita groaned in a small voice.
"It's me Kita, you're back home," he said gently, feeling Deja vu of when he first woke up seeing Kita for the first time. Now it was Kita's turn in his place to be the first thing she saw.
Kita had tears coming down her eyes but felt aching pain in her arm even after stone sleep but she would still feel achy for quite a while. Brooklyn continued to cry in relief for his future mate. "Don't scare me like that. I thought I was gonna lose you, Kita!" He sniffled, while Kita lifted up her weak hand, caressing his face. "Never, Brooklyn-San. But I was willing to die for our love, to save your life."
It made the beaked male cry again, hugging Kita gently in case he hurt anything. "But you're alive, and we will have our ceremony, Kita. I vow that. But for now, you need to rest and save your energy for our wedding. I'll stay with you."
Kita endured her love's hugs, happy that they were both back together again, the rest of the clan in the room watching and smiling in happiness at their reunion. Then, Brooklyn glanced at Goliath. "Where's… Yegor?" He asked nervously. Hudson folded his arms. "We threw him to the police, so ye wouldn't have to kill him."
But Brooklyn's eyes glowed. "I would've wanted to, after that living hell he put me through!" He growled, wishing to storm into the jail and rip his head off.
His brothers came and put gentle hands on his arms. "No, bro. We as a clan don't believe in this kind of vengeance. We're just relieved to have you here in one piece, and I'm happy that Kaori is back with me too," Lex said, taking his girlfriend by the hand after, grateful that she hadn't received worse from the ordeal. Kaori had hugged him too, giving Lex a kiss.
Goliath also spoke to Brooklyn, feeling proud of his second for having stood up for his self-esteem. "You have made your clan proud when facing against the one trying to sell you as a slave, Brooklyn. It means you are strong on the inside and would be a good leader with your true love by your side. I am glad to have chosen you to be my successor, Brooklyn. Always." He said gently, a smile on his face.
That made the young Second's eyes moisten, wiping them, and giving Goliath a big hug, feeling happy that Goliath still appreciated him being the one to take his place. "B-but I'm still not ready for you to die yet, Goliath. I still feel like I have much to learn," he admitted in a small voice.
Goliath put his hand under his beak. "Then I shall try to live as long as I can until you are ready," he vowed, Kita looking happy for her love while his brothers too came in for a hug.
"We're behind ya as our leader, bro," Lex vowed. Broadway nodded. "For sure. He made the right choice."
Brooklyn felt too overwhelmed by this along with the fact he would soon be mated. This was the happiest moment in his life for him. And with his enemy in jail, he didn't feel like he was left out anymore, looking forward to further adventures with his mate by his side.
After their little reunion, they allowed Kita to rest longer since she was still exhausted, but Brooklyn promised her they could hang out again tomorrow night.
One of the best things about Siveth was that she was a new gar beast for Bronx to play with, but she was a bit rowdier than he was, usually making a mess and chewing pillows. Fox had caught her gnawing on Alex's teddy on one occasion, Kaori apologizing for the incident and scolding Siveth.
From watching these incidents, Brooklyn figured it couldn't hurt to tame Siveth to be better behaved, perhaps from Hudson who knew how to tame gar dogs well, thanks to his connection with Bronx. When the sun came up and they all turned to stone, Brooklyn felt more peaceful about himself than he did, anxious for night to come so he could hang out with Kita once again and glide with her.
