After her trip to Rifure Village, Misty is finally ready to start accepting challengers to the Cerulean City gym! As the sun shines down on Cerulean, our young heroine wonders what kind of challenges await her today…

Misty walked up to the entrance of the gym before flipping a sign on the door to inform challengers that the gym was open for business. "Ready to start a new day, Togepi?" Misty asked the Pokémon that was standing beside her.

"Toge!" Togepi said with a smile while lifting her hands up.

Misty patted the Spike Ball Pokémon on her head. "I will take that as a yes." Misty picked Togepi up and looked out of the door. "I wonder what kind of challenger will come by today?" She then thought back to some of her more recent gym battles…

The challenger's Espeon uses Psybeam at Corsola! What will Misty's Corsola do?.

"Ever since I started offering official gym challenges, I have had some tough battles…" Misty thought to herself.

A direct Starmie's Water Gun! Can Rattata recover from it?

"But I always make sure to do my best and test the strengths of those who come to face me…"

The shot changes to her Gyaraods roaring at the opposing Sandshrew.

"After all, it is important to show how strong I am…"

Bellsprout grabbed hold of Goldeen with Vine Whip before slamming it into one of the platforms! A devastating defeat for Misty!

"But defeats will always help me learn to be better…"

"Well, whatever challenge comes our way, we will make sure to do our best!" Misty said with determination before looking down at her baby. "Right, Togepi?"

"Togetogepree!" Togepi chirped.

Misty Chronicles OP1:
"I Ain't The Same, I'm the Power"
Lyrics by TheGlassyGuyArt

(Lyrics

Accompanying Visual)

I feel the change in the air, I'm feeling so alive
On a blue background, a silhouette of Misty's feet appears, and zooms up her body as the lyrics continue.
My heart is beating faster, higher than a kite
When it reaches her face, it zooms out and reveals her whole body.
I ain't the same, I'm something new, I'm something bold
Misty pulls out a Pokeball and throws it, a flash of light appears
I'm feeling the power, I'm never getting old!
The logo for "The Misty Chronicles" appears as it transitions to the first verse.

I ain't the same, I'm way much more,
Misty is shown running alongside a river, her Goldeen jumps out and wags her tail before falling back into the water.
My spirit's got the power to open every door!
Staryu jumps out of the water and spins before it too falls into the water.
"Giving up" was never in my dictionary,
Psyduck suddenly pops out of his Pokeball. Misty stops running as Psyduck falls into the water.
My power has been reborn, and so I have been!
Misty sighs as Togepi, who was in her arms, just chirps happily and claps
I'm on a mission to live my life right,
Misty is now facing off against another trainer, as Politoed cheers her on by clapping.
Spreading love and light with all of my might,
Misty sends out Corsola as it makes a pose.
Gotta rise up high don't be afraid to fall,
Horsea and Starmie are swimming behind a glass wall, giving happy expressions as if they are happy to see Misty again.
The courage within me is gonna carry all!
Gyarados swims straight up in front of the Pokemon as it cuts to Misty on the battlefield

OH YEAH, I AIN'T THE SAME BABY!
Misty sends out all of her Pokemon as the chorus starts up.

I ain't the same, I'm the power and younger!
Goldeen jumps up and uses a Horn Attack
I am the victory, feeling so much stronger!
Staryu and Starmie use Water Guns to form arcs as Misty makes a pose in between.
Oh yeah, I ain't the same,
Togepi shakes her arms back and forth like a metronome to the beat.
Oh yeah, I ain't the same!
Psyduck shakes his booty in front of the camera.
I ain't the same, I'm the motivation.
Horsea uses a Smokescreen attack to cover the whole screen.
I'm the heartbeat, born for inspiration!
Corsola clears the smoke by using a Spike Cannon attack.
Oh yeah, I ain't the same,
Politoed claps along to the beat.
Oh yeah, I ain't the same!
Gyarados pops out of the pool and unleashes an attack
I know in my heart I can do anything!
Misty and all of her Pokemon are seen together as the song ends.

On a cerulean blue background, the episode's title appears in white text as Misty Read it out loud:

EEVEE TRAINING!

Meanwhile, a boy was looking out into Cerulean City with his Eevee. "Well, here we are," the boy said as they looked out into the city.

"Eevee," his partner said.

This young trainer was a boy named Mikey. He was from Stone Town, and he and his partner Pokémon were traveling through the Kanto region to earn badges and hopefully enter the famed Indigo League tournament. "I am sure that our special technique will help us win our next badge." He pulled out his badge case and looked at the badges he had: a Soul Badge and a Rainbow Badge. "Let's go!"

"Vui!" Eevee said as the two of them headed into town and towards the Cerulean Gym. They eventually arrived at the dome with a Dewgong statue on the top before opening the door.

"Hello?" Mikey said as he came into the gym. "Anyone here?" Pretty soon, he saw a familiar face come into the lobby area, holding a Togepi in her arms. Mikey hadn't seen her in nearly two years, but he recognized her immediately. "Misty?" he asked. "Is that you?"

Misty nodded. "It is," she said while setting Togepi down. "You must be Mikey, right?"

"I am," Mikey said, happy that Misty remembered him after all of this time. "So, I decided to come over for a gym battle, as I heard that this place got a new leader."

"And you are looking at her right now!" Misty said.

Mikey gasped. "You're the new Cerulean City gym leader?" he asked.

"Sure am," Misty nodded as she filled Mikey in about everything that had happened since she, Ash, and Brock were at that party two years ago.

While Mikey and Misty were talking with one another, Togepi and Eevee were getting a chance to interact with one another. "Vee!" Eevee said as he looked at Togepi and wagged his tail back and forth.

"Toge!" Togepi chirped as she waved her arms back and forth before going to the Evolution Pokémon's tail, interested in the appendage.

"Ee?" Eevee said as he put the tail down towards the Spike Ball Pokémon. Togepi touched the tail, loving how soft it was.

Eevee saw how much Togepi loved his tail and tickled the baby with the appendage. "Puree-ee-e-e!" Togepi giggled as their trainers saw how well the two Pokémon had gotten along.

"It seems like your Eevee is enjoying playing with my Togepi," Misty said as she watched the two Pokémon.

"It does," Mikey said and smiled as they headed into the hall that led to the main gym arena. Mikey stood there as he looked at the pool where gym battles took place.

"Like what you see?" Misty asked with a smile. "Pretty much every challenger I get has that reaction when they see the arena for the first time." The two of them walked along the edge of the pool when a Pokémon popped its head out of the pool.

"Horsea!" the Pokémon said as she looked up at Misty and Mikey.

"Hey there, Horsea," Misty said to the Dragon Pokémon. She then looked at Mikey and asked him, "You remember my Horsea, right?"

"Yeah," Mikey said with a nod, "she was the Pokémon that helped get our Pokémon back from Team Rocket."

"Sure was," Misty said. When Team Rocket decided to crash the party and stole all of the Pokémon (except Psyduck), Horsea was the one who made a trail by squirting ink out of her mouth. The trail led the trainers to Team Rocket, and everyone got their Pokémon back safe and sound.

"Has your Horsea gotten stronger since we last saw each other?" Mikey asked the Cerulean City gym leader.

"Uh…" Misty said, not knowing how to answer that question. She didn't use Horsea that much while she was traveling through the Kanto region with Ash, and Horsea had spent the past two years at the gym with people with zero interest in Pokémon training. "How about you battle her to see if she can do anything?"

"That sounds like a good idea," Mikey said as he made his way to one side of the battlefield, while Misty made her way to the other side of the battlefield.

Soon, the battle was ready to begin. "This will be a two-on-two battle between the gym leader, Misty, and the challenger, Mikey from Stone Town!" the referee declared. "Only the challenger will be allowed to switch out his Pokémon, and the battle ends when both Pokémon on one side are knocked out! Understand?"

"We do!" Both trainers said.

"Alright then," the referee said before looking towards Misty, "Misty, you get the first move."

"Okay," Misty said as she pulled out Horsea's Pokéball, ready to send her out in order to battle. "Alright, Horsea, I choo—"

But before she could finish her sentence and send out Horsea, a flash of light came from her pocket and landed on one of the platforms meant for Pokémon who couldn't swim. The light vanished and Psyduck appeared! "Psy?" Psyduck said as he tilted his head, and Misty could only look on in horror.

"Psyduck, you were not supposed to come out!" she told her Pokémon, a frustrated tone in her voice. She then looked to the referee. "Please, let me have a do-over with sending out my Pokémon, Psyduck has a real issue with coming out of his Pokéball when he isn't supposed to…"

The referee simply shrugged, as if to say, "Tough luck."

While Misty was having her issues with Psyduck and his inability to stay in his Pokéball, Mikey decided to send out his first Pokémon. He pulled out a Pokéball containing a Pokémon he caught early on his journey as a Pokémon trainer. "Alright Fearow," Mikey said, "I choose you!"

The avian Pokémon came out of his Pokéball and let out a screeching cry which got Misty's attention. "You caught a Fearow?"

"I did," Mikey said. "Accidentally angered a flock of Spearow, but Eevee and I managed to get away, catching one of them after countering with a move Eevee learned from big brother Sparky and his Jolteon." He smiled before adding, "You are just going to have to wait to see what it is."

"Alright then," the referee said, "the match is set. Psyduck versus Fearow! Misty, you get the first move. Begin!"

Misty, who cleared her head after realizing that trying to use a different Pokémon was no use, ordered her move. "Alright Psyduck," she said, "use your Scratch attack!"

Psyduck jumped from platform to platform in order to reach Fearow, who was flying over the platform closest to Mikey. When Psyduck was close enough, the boy told his Pokémon, "Dodge it!"

Fearow flew up higher as Psyduck furiously waved his clawed flippers around, managing to grab hold of one of Fearow's talons as the Beak Pokémon flew higher and higher. Psyduck kept scratching his opponent until eventually drawing the attention of Fearow. Fearow turned his long neck around and saw what Psyduck was doing. Annoyed, Fearow used a close-range Fury Attack on the Pokémon's head.

"Wait!" Misty said. She knew that Psyduck would certainly fall into the water if he let go due to Fearow's attacks. "I don't think that's a good idea…"

But Fearow kept on pecking, thinking it was an easy way to knock out his opponent. As Fearow pecked and pecked at Psyduck, the Duck Pokémon could feel a headache coming, and it was getting worse and worse with each peck. Psyduck eventually let go of Fearow and fell to the ground, bonking his head on one of the islands. That was the last straw as energy came outward from Psyduck. It was a Psychic attack, and it ended up dealing massive damage to Fearow as it fell down several feet before managing to catch itself. Psyduck on the other hand…

"Psyduck is unable to battle!" The Pokémon had a big bump on his head, and swirls in his eyes as Misty jumped across to get her Pokémon.

"Psyduck, are you okay?" she asked Psyduck.

"Psy," Psyduck said as he managed to sit up and look at his trainer.

"Well, at least you did your best against Mikey and his Fearow," Misty said before pulling out his Pokéball. "Now return." Psyduck returned to his Pokéball as Misty looked at Mikey. "Sorry about Psyduck ruining the battle, Mikey."

"It's okay," Mikey said, "Psyduck certainly took a lot out of Fearow, even if it isn't as strong."

Misty simply nodded before returning to her side of the battlefield to resume the match. "Alright then. Now I will use the Pokémon I WANTED to start out with." She pulled out Horsea's Pokéball. "Horsea, I choose you!" Misty threw the Pokéball and soon the sea horse came out of her ball, landing in the pool.

"Horsea!" Horsea said cutely as the battle resumed.

"Alright, Fearow," Mikey said, "let's go for a Peck attack!"

Fearow started to fly towards Horsea, but it was doing so slower than usual, still feeling the effects of Psyduck's Psychic attack. Misty saw this as the perfect opportunity for a chance to tie up the match. "When Fearow gets close enough, use Smokescreen, Horsea!"

"Sea!" Horsea said as she waited for her opponent to come in. And when he was close enough, she used Smokescreen before diving into the pool to get a quick getaway.

Fearow was coughing up a storm as Mikey grew concerned for his Pokémon. Pokémon "Are you alright?" Mikey asked.

"Now use your Bubble attack!" Misty said as Horsea unleashed bubbles from her snout which caught Fearow off guard and forced him to land on the platform below.

"Fearow is unable to battle!" the referee declared. "Which means this round goes to Misty and her Horsea!"

"Are you alright, Fearow?" Mikey asked his Pokémon.

"Fear!" Fearow cawed as he got sent back to his Pokéball for a nice long rest. He then looked down at his Eevee. "Are you ready to show Misty what we have learned since we last saw her?"

"Vee!" Eevee said as he thought back to when the two of them left Stone Town for their journey…

"Good luck on your journey, Mikey," Rainer said, "and remember what we taught you and Eevee."

"Alright then," Mikey said to the Vaporeon trainer. "Eevee and I will use the moves you all taught me!"

"Vee!" Eevee said in agreement with his trainer.

"Eon!" all of the Eeveelutions said.

"And also remember that we will be rooting for you all the way," Sparky said.

"Good luck!" Pyro said as Mikey he and Eevee left their house in Stone Town.

"Horsea, use your Bubble attack!" Misty told her Pokémon. This snapped Mikey back into the battle as the seahorse fired bubbles at Eevee.

When the bubbles got close enough to Eevee, Mikey gave his order. "Alright, Eevee, use Bouncy Bubble!"

"Bouncy Bubble?" Misty thought to herself. When the bubbles reached Eevee, Eevee sprung into the air and landed on one of the bubbles before throwing it back at Horsea and landing back onto the platform, leaving both the gym leader and her Pokémon confused as to what on earth happened.

"Do you like that new attack?" Mikey asked Misty.

"Yeah, I guess…" Misty said. "Where did you learn it?"

"I learned that attack from my big brother Rainer and his Vaporeon," Mikey explained. "We started practicing the move around a year ago."

"That sounds cool," Misty said, smiling even though she was starting to grow concerned. Bubble was the only attacking move that she knew that Horsea could use. And with Mikey having his Eevee simply bounce off the bubbles and send them back to Horsea, she had no way to fight back. "Looks like we are going to have to go on the defensive, Horsea!" Misty told her Pokémon Pokémon.

"Sea!" Horsea said as she went for a Smokescreen attack to hide herself. As smoke covered the battlefield, Eevee looked around, wondering where his opponent was. The smoke from Horsea was very thick. It wasn't as thick as the Smokescreen attack used by one of the party crashers' Pokémon when they first met, but it was still hard to see what was going on.

"Alright, now use Bubble again!" Misty said when Horsea was close enough to Eevee. And at a close range, Horsea shot bubbles out of her snout, which hurt Eevee and sent him flying before he had the chance to counter with a Bouncy Bubble.

"Eevee!" Mikey said as Eevee landed. "Are you okay?"

"Vee…" Eevee said as he struggled back to his feet, but he ended up being okay.

"Good," Mikey said before he thought of a way to try and deal with Horsea. Maybe one of those moves that his brothers and their Eeveelutions taught him would work. "Alright then, Eevee, let's get back into this battle with a Buzzy Buzz!"

"Is that another new attack your Eevee learned?" Misty asked the trainer from Stone Town.

"It sure is," Mikey said with a smile as Eevee's fur glowed yellow. He shot a jolt of electricity out of his body and it landed right into the pool, electrifying the water and hurting Horsea, who floated back to the surface as her Smokescreen cover faded from the battlefield. "Sparky and his Jolteon taught me that move."

Misty paid no attention to that, as she headed over to Horsea. "Are you okay?" she asked the Pokémon.

"Horsea," Horsea said as she nodded her head. It looks like she could take one more attack before the battle was done for.

"Alright then," Misty said, thinking about what she could do to try and turn the battle in her favor.

"Eevee," Mikey said, talking to his Pokémon, who also looked like he could deliver and take one more attack for his trainer. "Are you ready to use that move Pyro taught us?"

"Vee!" Eevee said as he moved his back paw along the ground. Both trainers looked at each other before giving their orders for the final attacks.

"Horsea, use a Bubble Attack with all of your power!" Misty ordered.

"Eevee, finish this battle off with a Sizzly Slide!" Mikey said.

And so both Pokémon used their attacks. Eevee managed to cloak himself in fire before charging up towards Horsea. Horsea, on the other hand, shot bubbles out of her snout, but they were at a far more rapid rate than it would be in a normal Bubble attack. Misty could not believe her eyes. Was her Horsea using a Bubble Beam attack? How? When? Was it because she told her to give it everything she had in the attack? Did her useless sisters do something useful and actually train Horsea a little bit during their time apart? Misty had no time to think about how Horsea was able to use Bubble Beam, she needed to focus on the battle.

Meanwhile, Eevee was continuing to charge at Horsea, his body still coated in flames just as Pyro and his Flareon taught him how to do it. He ran through the bubbles, creating a steamy atmosphere as the bubbles popped against his fur. Soon, the whole battlefield was covered in steam thanks to the combination of Bubble Beam and Sizzly Slide, and all the trainers could do was wait for the steam to clear and for the referee to make his decision.

It took a while, but the smoke eventually cleared enough for everyone to see what happened to the Pokémon. Horsea was floating on the water with swirls in her eyes… and Eevee was on a platform with swirls in his eyes as well. "Both Pokémon are unable to battle!" the referee declared. "Pokémon League rules state that if an official gym battle ends in a tie, the gym leader and challenger can decide if the latter is worthy of earning a badge!"

Misty returned Horsea to her Pokéball for a good rest as she saw Mikey talking to his Eevee, who managed to recover enough to talk with his trainer. "You did great out there," Mikey said with a smile.

"Vee," Eevee said as he got picked up.

"You and your Eevee did a great job out there, Mikey," Misty said with a smile. "Those moves you taught Eevee were really something."

"Don't thank me," Mikey said. "Thank my brothers, as THEY were the ones who taught Eevee moves based on his Eeveelutions."

"Still," Misty said, "even though you technically didn't win the battle, I still see you worthy of earning this Cascade Badge." She dug into her pocket and pulled out the blue badge and showed it to Mikey. "Official league rules state that if a trainer ties a gym leader in a match, the leader and challenger can decide if the latter gets the badge," Misty said, repeating what the referee said.

Mikey looked down at his Pokémon before asking him if he thought that they should take the badge. "Vee!" Eevee said in approval.

"Alright then," Mikey said as he took the badge from Misty's hand.

After saying their goodbyes, Misty was in her room after closing the gym for the day. She immediately went to check her computer to see if Ash had emailed her. He had, and from what his email said, it seemed like he was in a rush to challenge the Dewford Island gym, having just arrived today after several delays. She quickly wrote a response to him detailing what she thought about his time in Hoenn and what she was up to today.

Hey Ash. Glad to hear that you have finally made it to Dewford Island, even if it took you a while to get there. And guessing by the encounter with Team Aqua you had, I think their goal is something to do with the water as the grunt stole a Water- and Flying-type Pokémon. And looking at Sharpedo, it sounds like a very cool Pokémon and very good in battle And this is totally not my favoritism towards Water Pokémon shining through… You may have a point in Brock not catching it, but he already has a Water-type Pokémon in Lotad. If he ended up catching another one, he would practically be turning into me! Anyways, I heard that Dewford Island has some beautiful beaches, so maybe you should visit one of them after your gym battle. I know I would love to visit them if I was in the Hoenn region with you, Ash. But alas, my sisters are out of town and are forcing me to look after the gym while they are away… Speaking of the gym, I had another trainer come in for a battle, Mikey from Stone Town. Remember him? He has been out on his journey to prove that Eevee can be just as strong as their evolved forms. While we ended up tying the battle, I still saw him worthy of earning a Cascade Badge. So yeah, that was my day at the gym. Good luck with your gym battle, Ash.

Misty

Misty read over her email before sending it to Ash.

Another day of battles has come and gone at Cerulean Gym, and Misty learned how even the smallest Pokémon can learn to do some big things, a lesson she will keep in mind as she continues her job as Cerulean's Gym Leader…

TO BE CONTINUED…
