Chapter 47 – Hunger and Power Part II

Two titanic beings faced each other in the blank canopy of space. One a God and other god-like. At cross purposes and surrounded by their servants and allies, these beings need not communicate. Their intentions, their purpose is clear.

"We used to be a small-time rebel cell fighting the empire. I never imagined it would come to this", Zeb complained as he was manning the top gun of the Ghost. Hera piloted the craft, while Ahsoka manned the guns of the docked Phantom II. Kanan was in the nose gun, while Chopper was Hera's co-pilot. The children had volunteered to take part in this battle, with the request firmly shot down by their parents. They were now onboard the Helicarrier flagship assisting its crew in various tasks. Ezra piloted the Starbird, while Sabine and Satine manned the ships guns.

"Less complaining Zeb and more shooting, this battle is only going to get more intense", Hera said over the comms.

"How do you figure that?", Zeb asked back.

"Well Thor and the giant purple being have yet to start fighting", Kanan answered.

"Just a question, but how does someone like Thor actually fight? Isn't he literally capable of anything?", Satine asked.

"Maybe all of us are just getting in his way", Sabine added shooting the enemy craft that Galactus had brought with him.

"Maybe, maybe not. We just have to keep firing", Ezra said.

Outside the two heralds of Galactus were locked in fierce combat with Abathur and the armored Fenrir (who was in his hybrid form). The battle of these four was deadly enough as it is with stray shots of energy destroying any unlucky craft that hit it, causing most of the fighters to steer clear of them. One of them – Terrax seemed to take quite some pleasure in this wanton destruction and Fenrir was actively forcing him away from the path of the ships. The Helicarriers were locked in a separate battle with the warship fleet that served Galactus. On one of these Helicarriers, Erin was running ragged following the orders of the corporal assigned over her. Her task was to help the corporal keep his assigned cannons active. A different corporal was assigned over Jacen and Mira, the latter of whom proved to be more proficient than the other two.

Worlds away on Shili – Gabriel's head was pounding, but he did not know why. He closed his eyes to try and focus and saw Jacen, Mira and Erin on the Helicarrier. Skyla had called Hera the Celestial who quickly put her hands across the young boys head.

"Your brother has a very strong mind Skyla", she said, "and it seems like yours is getting stronger as well."

"Mother can you help him?", Asha asked standing behind her.

"Yes, I have helped him", she held the sleeping boy in her arms.

"I have a suggestion to Tarre about the training of the young ones", she said and looked to Skyla, "I was about to give Asha a few lessons in mana magic, would like to join us Skyla?"

"Don't worry about the ships Thor", he heard someone whisper in his ears. The young axe wielding pagan simply sat on a shore as a dark shadow coiled around him.

"Just say what you want to say shadow, or I will strike you down", the Prince of Asgard was in no mood for any of his companions theatrics.

"Oh young pagan, such poor manners you have."

"Have you not noticed the pestilence plaguing this world, these people are starving and diseased. They need ships filled with food, medicine or at the very least a way off this planet", Thor snarled, "Yet you tell me not to worry about the ships."

"Aye, soon…very soon you too will be dead THOR."

Thor snapped back into reality; the nightmare wasn't real. He opened his eye and whispered, "I will have your head for that."

An opulent planet, with vast resources. The people of this world celebrated day and night, with no rest and no worry. Yet he alone worried.

"Cheer up Galan", said a passing old man.

"I…I feel as though I may burst", he whispered to himself.

"From eating too much. Many feel that way young Galan. And the food shows no sign of stopping", said an elder man sitting at the same table as him.

"No…No, that's not-", Galan stood up and tried to remember. He must do something important, but what? Why must his memory fail him now? He gently rubbed his temples and said, "My head is pounding. Something is wrong, our universe is on the verge of collapse."

He then finally realized and looked towards the sky, "Thor is in my head."

Galactus's eyes opened, and he jerked his head back before returning to his previous posture.

"Look Loki, this field is poisoned as well. This pestilence makes no sense, why can't we stop its growth", Thor spoke as his brother silently stood behind him.

"Say something damn you! This is no time for your never-ending mischief", Thor rounded up on his brother seizing him by the front of his clothes, yet Loki the future god of mischief remained silent. Only then did Thor realize the source of the pestilence. Loki's hands were tainted with dark magic.

Thor released him and recoiled in terror, "What have you done?"

"I carried out the will of the Allfather, Thor", Loki said raising his right hand and blowing the taint into Thor's face.

Thor fell to his knees coughing, "No…NO you lie", he said in between coughs, "Father would never do this. He sent us to help this world."

"No Thor, he sent us to get rid of you. Haven't you learned by now, we are not his sons!", Loki hissed, pulling out a knife and plunging it into Thor's head.

The herald he was fighting wielded the axe like a maniac, an outside observer wouldn't be able to make sense of their battle. His opponent has an axe, which he used like a club. When he wasn't clubhauling (Fenrir chuckled internally), he was using the axe to shoot out golden beams of energy not caring who it hit.

'This maniac has killed more of his underlings than we have', Fenrir thought to himself as he used the shield to defend himself and made a series of quick attacks with his sword.

Terrax could not block all of them and was left with deep gashes in his arms, legs and chest. He roared, releasing energy that pushed Fenrir back. Meanwhile Galactus opened his hand to unleash purple tendrils of energy that took on a shockingly similar form to the xenomorphs. These energy xenomorphs joined the battle which was previously in the Aesir favour and steered it to a draw.

'Fenrir, we need to distract Galactus's, Fenrir heard Abathur speak to him telepathically. Abathur had his hands full with the cruiser, so Fenrir redoubled his efforts. Using the powers of his frost giant blood Fenrir encased Terrax in a block of ice and opened his mouth, unleashing a beam of energy propelling the frozen and dazed Terrax towards Galactus at high speed.

Worried he looked over a gigantic screen, his skin gleaming with sweat. 'How can this be possible?' He heard the footsteps of his wife behind him but paid no mind.

"How can the universe keep shrinking but Taa keeps expanding. How can one world grow in a rapidly contracting universe?", Galan spoke frantically.

"Galan come to bed", his wife gently said.

"You don't understand Aala, the whole world is growing while everything around us is collapsing. Everything except –"

"Galan, our world is not the only thing that grows in spite of a universe that wants to die", Aala spoke, "I- We-", her tone was unsure but needy. Something he had never expected from Aala.

Galan turned around, "…Aala." She was leaning against the wall, heavily pregnant. But it couldn't be. When last he had seen her a few hours ago, her belly was flat. Galan was relieved as this was something both had wanted for quite some time but shocked as to how it had happened so quickly.

Before he could say anything, Galan started screaming, "AAAAAAAAAAA", his head was splitting open.

Terrax had collided with Galactus's head, as a burst of energy surrounded the head shattering the helmet of Galactus, a feat only a few could achieve. The psychic connection between Galactus and Thor was now broken.

What was even more surprising that everyone in the battle could hear Galactus's scream over their respective ships' intercom. Terrax himself was unconscious and floating in space, his armour completely destroyed, and his body broken. Terrax's axe was sticking out of Galactus's head like a toothpick lodged between two teeth.

Galactus was unsteady and Thor was panting. The two Titanic Rune users were more irritated than tired, and their battle had gone from psychic attacks to energy based. Galactus fired lasers from his eyes towards Thor who in response released a beam of energy from his mouth.

"I'm in a nightmare, and I can't wake up", Zeb spoke.

"So that's why General Abathur ordered all ships to move away from Thor", Sabine commented.

The battle between the two forces intensified even more, almost like they were being empowered by the Thor and Galactus. Suddenly a massive warning rang through the force as Thor, having lost his patience flew towards Galactus, grabbed both his arms and headbutted him.

Mace could feel something wicked happening inside the sphere but couldn't tell what. He felt fear, fear that was not quite as intense as when he experienced Anakin's shatterpoint during the final days of the Clone Wars, but it was a close second.

Suddenly the barrier began shaking and cracks appeared shattering it. From within the shattered barrier came fog surrounding all of them and Mace felt in pain because of it. Very quickly the fog vanished, and left standing was Tarre Vizsla. On the ground near him underneath Mjolnir was Zenin, a peaceful expression on his face.

"He is not breathing", Mace said.

"We have failed in our part of the mission. Our target ended his life on his own terms", Tarre spoke.

"What now Colonel?", one of the soldiers asked.

"We find Lieutenant Elise and ensure she and her detachment are still alive. After which we will re-group with the General. Close ranks and do not get distracted by a lone curse spirit", Tarre issued his orders, and everyone followed. A few minutes later Tarre experienced a massive disturbance in the Force. In fact this was something all beings of the rank of Cherub and above experienced.

On the other side of the massive battlefield was General Vanathur who, surprised by this disturbance, did not notice as his target successfully fled the system.

Vanathur allowed the Force to show him this disturbance and saw the Thunderer.

On Ryloth's moon, the two had crash landed. Abathur and Fenrir immediately landed in front of the downed Allfather and formed a circle of protection around him. Abathur's eyes were darting around, the God of Foresight had predicted a catastrophe would take place, but he knew not when or where.

Fenrir on the other hand checked the Allfather and announced, "He is entering the 'Sleep of Life'."

"Fenrir be ready to take him back to Asgard. I will create the opening", Abathur said.

"What opening? Galactus is down", Fenrir protested. Immediately after there was a tremor and behind them Galactus stood tall, his previous wounds now healed, his helmet intact and Terrax's axe inside his massive-clenched fist.

"Aesir. You…Tire…Me", Galactus spoke slowly.

'He may have healed his wounds, but this plague was affected by Thor's attack', thought the Beast Lord.

"No matter it will be mine", Galactus spoke and gathered energy in his hands.

Fenrir was getting ready for a full-scale battle with the world devourer and had almost taken his true form when behind them was a third presence, and a deep powerful ringing. Fenrir and Abathur turned to see Thor's axe – Stormbreaker and the Allfather' spear – Gungniir fly into massive metallic hands. These spiked hands were attached to equally spiked metallic arms. As Fenrir looked onto the source of the presence, his eyes widened in horror. There in front of them was the Destroyer Armour come to life once more.

"Impossible, it was lost in the battle of Paralas", Fenrir whispered.

From the sky Hera saw the dreadful scene unfolding before her and recognised the massive armour. She had seen it before on the day her mother and brother died. On that very day her father had disappeared, and she was left behind. This nightmare of old had come again. She was panicking and Kanan noticed. He put her hand on her shoulder and used the force to calm her.

"Hera, I know what you are feeling. But we must trust in Thor", Kanan whispered.

As the Destroyer spread its arms wide and power covered its entire body, the battle between Thor and Galactus reached a new level. For the first time in eons, Galactus…Galan felt fear.
