Chapter 9: Danny's Decision

"It's a good thing the Far Frozen ghosts let us borrow the Infi-Map while Mom and Dad are doing maintenance on the Ghost Portal." Danny commented to Jazz, Tucker and Sam.

"Like they'd say 'no' to their "Great One"." Tucker replied.

"Given what happened the last time they trusted us with the map, I wouldn't blame them if they did." Sam commented.

"I still find it hard to believe there are ghosts who worship my little brother." Jazz said.

Their conversation was interrupted by Maddie shouting "You can't do this to us!"

Curious, Team Phantom went to the living room to learn what Maddie was shouting about and, to their surprise, found the Masters' Blasters. "What's going on?" Jazz asked.

"The Blasters are accusing us of harboring a ghost." Maddie answered in indignation.

"And we are arresting you as soon as we find the ghost." Vid replied.

Having heard that, Danny went ghost and phased himself out of his room. Meanwhile, the Masters' Blasters scanned Jack, Maddie, Jazz, Tucker and Sam and figured out neither of them is a ghost. Danny eventually came out of his parents' lab and got himself scanned. "No ghost." Vid stated. "We made a mistake. Bye." The Masters' Blasters then left.

"Well, that was stressful." Maddie commented. "I'll bake some cookies."

"Yay! Cookies!" Jack exclaimed as he followed his wife to the kitchen.

"Danny, what did you do?" Sam asked with a frown after Jack and Maddie left.

"Something Danny Phantom and I are about to undo with the Fenton Ghost catcher, Sam." Danny answered and Tucker and Sam got the hint.

"I don't get it." Jazz said.

"Remember that time you freaked out over seeing two Dannys?" Tucker asked.

"I didn't know ghosts could duplicate themselves back then but what does the Fenton Ghost Catcher have to do with it?" Jazz replied.

While Danny was in the lab waiting for his Phantom self to return, Sam told Jazz about the other time they split. "My brother actually did it just to be able to multitask?" Jazz asked. "He needs more therapy than I thought."

"What he needs is to fight more and more to show Amity Park we don't need the Masters' Blasters or their absurd fees." Sam commented.

"What needs to be done about those fees is a protest demanding the Masters' Blasters to simply be paid with tax money like cops and other people paid to protect and/or serve the people." Jazz replied.

"Now you're talking!" Sam replied with a happy expression. "I'll start working on the signs right now."

The next weekend, Danny was back in Gravity Falls for a date with Wendy. The two of them were at Greasy's eating pancakes. "Too bad Dad was here earlier today or we could've tried to get these for free." Wendy commented.

"Yeah." Danny uneasily replied, feeling secretly relieved he had an excuse not to try Greasy's test of manliness.

"So, what do you think of Amity Park's newest protectors?" Wendy asked.

"I think their demand for advanced pay is too absurd, Wendy." Danny neutrally answered. "I agree with the demonstrators demanding them to be paid in a similar fashion than cops, firefighters and other people paid to uphold the law and protect people."

"Is it true they wouldn't rescue people during an attack unless the people in danger paid them?" Wendy asked and Danny nodded. "That's an outrage!"

"True." Danny replied.

"Anyway, there's a place I'd like to show you if you think there's time before you catch the bus back to Amity Park." Wendy commented. She knew Danny could just fly back home but most people in Gravity Falls didn't so she mentioned the bus. After they left Greasy's, Wendy took Danny to Crash Site Omega.

"Weird mountain formation, Wendy." Danny commented. "It looks like a flying saucer crashed in here."

"Ten thousand years, according to Ford Pines' estimations, Danny." Wendy replied.

"Ten thou…" Danny muttered as he recalled a previous conversation between his girlfriend and his parents. "Did he get the hyperdrive from the flying saucer?" He excitedly asked. As an aspiring astronaut, he's excited at the idea of aliens being real.

"Yep." Wendy answered. "He told me after I told him about my conversation with your parents."

"But where's the flying saucer?" Danny asked.

"We're standing on it, Danny." Wendy calmly replied as she removed some grass, revealing the flying saucer. "It went unnoticed until Ford Pines tried to figure out why his compass stopped working around here. Don't try to get inside, however. Ford says some defenses still work even if the aliens are long gone."

"Wow!" Danny exclaimed. "I cannot believe I'm having a close encounter of the second kind!"

"Second?" Wendy asked in confusion.

"Seeing a spaceship is considered a close encounter of the second kind." Danny explained. "The first kind is just seeing signs of a spaceship's presence. When one actually meets an extraterrestrial, it's a close encounter of the third kind."

"Okay." Wendy replied.

After the date ended, Danny flew back home. "Did you have fun, son?" Jack asked.

"Yes, Dad." Danny answered, deciding not to tell about the flying saucer. Not only because he was afraid of what Jack would do with the alien stuff but also because it might ruin the cover up if his parents knew he didn't come home right after Greasy's.

"Jack! Danny!" Maddie shouted. "Hurry!"

The boys joined Maddie and Jazz at the living room, where they watched a news report about a huge asteroid in collision course towards Earth. The asteroid was so huge the media dubbed it… the Disasteroid.

As time passed, governments spared no expenses in their failed attempts to stop the disasteroid. Vlad Masters even financed a rocked designed by Jack but someone inserted wrong coordinates and its missiles destroyed the wrong asteroid. The astronauts blamed Jack but it was clear to Danny that Vlad did it on purpose. Speaking of the fruitloop, he called for a town meeting that was covered by practically the whole world and he used it to expose himself as Vlad Plasmius. The Masters' Blasters tried to capture him but he stopped them. He then proposed a deal: he'd use his powers to make the Disasteroid intangible so it'd harmlessly phase through Earth and; in exchange, he'd receive 500 billion dollars and be declared Earth's ruler.

"We don't need to accept your deal, Plasmius." Danny declared as he turned himself into Danny Phantom, shocking everyone.

"What?" Vlad asked. "I thought you lost your powers to avoid detection by the Masters' Blasters."

"You were wrong, fruitloop." Danny replied. "And now that you no longer have any leverage on me, I'm free to testify that you and several duplicates of yourself overshadowed voters into electing you as Mayor of Amity Park, not to mention other things I have no time to tell now."

A reporter then approached Danny while Vlad fled. "Danny Fenton, what's your price?" He asked.

"Nothing." Danny answered. "Earth is my home and I'm glad to protect my family and friends who live in it."

"What about your family?" The reporter asked. "Did they know about you?"

"My parents didn't." Danny answered and Jazz hated being singled out.

One refueling later, Jack took Danny to the Disasteroid. "I don't understand, son." Jack commented. "Why did you never tell your mother or me that you gained ghost powers?"

"Do you mean other than the time you and Mom kept talking about dissecting ghosts and ripping them apart molecule by molecule?" Danny sarcastically asked.

"And how did you convince your sister to keep the secret from us?" Jack asked.

"She had already decided it on her own by the time I found out she knows, Dad." Danny replied.

"Alright but we'll have a longer talk after the Disasteroid is gone." Jack demanded.

Once they reached the Disasteroid, Danny phased himself outside the Fenton Rocket and tried to make the Disasteroid intangible only to get a big shock instead. "Son, what happened?" Jack asked through the radio.

"I don't know, Dad." Danny answered. "I just touched the Disaasteroid and it gave me a shock."

"Oh, no!" Jack exclaimed in horror. "That must mean the Disasteroid must be made of Ecto-ranium! No ghost can touch it much less make it intangible! We must return to Earth and think of another solution!"

Back on Earth, father and son relayed the bad news. "What can we do?" A reporter desperately asked.

An American General approached the Fentons. "Sir, we have made more missiles just in case you make another attempt to destroy the Disasteroid with your Fenton Rocket."

"At this point, even if we do hit the Disasteroid, some fragments will hit Earth but there's no other option." Jack stated.

Sam then approached them. "How about making Earth intangible?" She suggested.

"Earth is too big for a ghost alone and there's no time to gather the required help." Jack answered. "We'll go for the General's idea."

Had the situation not been so dire, Sam would've muttered something about sucking up to the man.

Without Vlad to interfere, the second attempt worked. Once Jack and Danny returned, they were hailed as national heroes. "I kinda felt bad for receiving a medal as well." Danny commented. "Dad did the whole job and I was just riding along."

"The co-pilot's job is to be ready for when the pilot fails, son." Jack comforted his son. "What matters is that Earth is safe."

Days later, after celebrations ended, Danny returned to Casper High. "Yoohoo!" Paulina called. "My ghost boy! How about you go watch a movie with the prettiest girl in Casper High?"

"What do you think, Wendy?" Danny asked, revealing his girlfriend's presence.

"Great idea, Danny." Wendy answered. "Thanks, Paulina."

"What're you doing here?" Paulina asked with a frown. "Don't you go to some school in some backwater town?"

"Don't talk of Gravity Falls like that." Wendy's frown went deeper. "And a fragment of the Disasteroid hit my school so I still have no classes."

"Awesome!" Kwan exclaimed.

"Shut up, Kwan." Dash ordered.

"My ghost boy, why do you keep dating that girl when you could have me?" Paulina asked Danny.

"She's nicer than you, Paulina." Danny replied.

"Is it because of the lumberjack look, I can buy an outfit like that." Paulina desperately said.

"That'd make you a poser unless you actually do lumberjack things like entering the lumberjack games." Wendy replied.

"Then that's what I'll do!" Paulina declared.

"Then I'm buying a camera." Sam said. "No way I'll miss all that humiliation."

"That's the spirit, Sam." Wendy replied and turned her attention to her boyfriend. "No pun intended."
