2nd Year

Hermione jolts awake with a gasp. Rubbing her eyes, she looks around her. It was her bedroom at home. She smiles at the achievement looking down at herself. Murmuring the Tempus Charm she giggles quietly. It was 3 weeks into the summer after 1st year. Definitly perfect. She had thought about coming back in an older time than this but there were a few things she wanted to do.

She jumps out of bed to get ready for the day. She goes through her bags to be her new carry around with the expandable charm. A cute brown leather crossbody was chosen. She sits to do the enchant, while also giving her parents a chance to wake up as it was a little early.

She puts what she wants in it and heads down. It was time for a discussion.

"Good Morning love," She finds her mother in the kitchen cooking up breakfast. She sighed in joy at the sight of her. She loved her mother. She had never cared that she was adopted, her parents made sure to let her know she was loved.

"Yes. I did, though an owl woke me up a little early," she says. She frowns in front of her.

"What's the matter, dear?"

"Well...I'm concerned about Harry. He's slipped a few times about his home life and I don't think they treat him well. Since summer has started, all my letters to him have come back not able to reach him. I'm worried. I was wondering ...can we go check on him and maybe bring him here for the summer?"

"Of course! We can definietly do that today!"

"And what are you doing this morning my lovely ladies?" Her father comes down the stairs into the kitchen. Her mom tells him while she sets the table.

"I agree, a wellness check wouldn't hurt. Didn't you mention during christmas last year his family does not like magic? They might take well to us.

And now that my brain is awake by this wonderful breakfast, I have a friend who can do an actual check on the home this summer. He might need to come ask your friend some questions. Let's eat and then we can head over."

--

It was easy enough finding the neighborhood. In the end, her father called his friend first to meet them there.

It made her angry the minute the inspection began. The Dursleys were in a huff about the wellness check but knew they couldn't say no. When her father introduced them, it was a mixture of emotions on their faces. Dentist meant no magic but she also went to school with Harry. Either way, they were forced to play nice.

Harry was outside in the back cleaning the yard while the inspector looked around. The tiny bed and toys in the cupboard. The locks and cat door on his bedroom that was barely considered a bedroom for a child, especially in comparison to his cousins room. An when Harry was called inside, he already looked like he had not eaten in a while, his clothes were too big on him and his glasses were broken again.

He was surprised and happy to see her but weary on the situation because he didn't know what to do. When he hugs her, she whispers in his ear. "Be honest with what youo can, and then your leaving with us." He nods and goes to do just that.

She heard it all. The Dursley's couldn't even help themselves adding in their thoughts. Him arriving in a nothing but a blanket and note on their doorsteps. How they didn't want him. The chores that was put on him daily. The rules for him alone. The punishments. Their reason that they allowed him to go to a 'private boarding school' was because his parents had already paid for it before he was in their care and it kept him away most of the year.

"Well, an investigation will be underway to remove him from your custody. A court hearing will be appointed. Don't worry Mr Potter you will not have to be there. And you will not being staying here either. Drs Grangers have agreed to take you as their ward from here on out. There will be a few visits but I'm positive this will go smothly as long as everyone coorperates." The man went outside while Hermione rushhes to help Harry collect his belongings. In his room, he hugged her tightly.

"Thank you Hermione. Thank you so much!!"

"Of course Harry!"

Outside , as they placed his trunk in the car, the inspector came forward. He handed Harry his card.

"Don't worry Mr. Potter, this will be done on both ends and I hope you have a great summer and a peaceful school year at Hogwarts," he winks at the children. The gasp at him.

"I'm a squib. I may have agreed to leave home but my brother and I stay in contact and he does the same job as me just at the Ministry of magic. Between us, you'll be able to stay at with the Grangers and just a heads up, will be assigned a magical guardian. maybe I can get them to take you both or get you each one. Wizard kind forget they can do that. An old practice to help muggle borns and muggle raised children learn about magic properly. " He winks again before leaving.

It was all they could talk about in the car. Her parents took them out to eat and then upon request, went to Diagon Alley.

"Why are we here Hermione? We haven't got our school list yet," Harry ask as Hermione lets her parents know they will be real quick.

"We are not shopping here today Harry, we are just stopping at the bank. I've had alot to think about after our first year in the magical world and it has given me a new perspective on things. I think you might enjoy the fun I have planned." He looks at her in confusion but knowing how she can be when her mind is made up, just goes along.

Gringotts was not overly busy so it was easy to find an available goblin.

"Hello, we were wandering if there was an account manager for Harry Potter?" The goblin looks down at them both for a moment before disappearing. it takes a few minutes, but soon another goblin comes to collect them and take them down a long hallway.

"Enter," he knocks on a black painted door.

"Ah Mr. Potter. We have been expecting you to visit eventually. Ready to begin?" Hermione gigles at Harry's baffled nod. It reminded her of the last time this had happened but after the war. At least this time they weren't upset with them about the damages from the breakin and dragon.

Harry took it well to accepting his heir rings for the Potter and Black lordships. He quickly handed over the files and books gievn to him, to Hermione for them to look at later. When they finished with that business, she now spoke up.

"Excuse me sir, I just wanted you to know that Harry will be staying with my family now until he is of age if you ever need to write him," she hands over her address. "We don't have magical guardians yet but we will notify you as soon as we know. My parents are his new parental guardians."

"Very well." He updates the file. "Would you like to see your vaults today?"

"Just my usual vault, I can examine them when I am a little order," Harry says. The goblin nods and leads them out.

She helps Harry fill his back. She turns to the goblin.

"Is there an easy way to have some of this turned into muggle bills?" She ask.

He nods and when they finish, Harry making sure to fill a 2nd bag to give to Hermione without her seeing, they follow the goblin back to the office where he is handed new keys for his vaults and a new one for the current one they were just in. They did not appreciate someone else had possession of it last year. And a black card that looked like a debit card to him.

"Just like any credit card, you can use this in store and at atms. You can also go to any goblin up front to have some actual cash in hand." They thanked him and did just that before heading back to the awaiting Grangers.

--

Hermione was having the best day. They took Harry shopping for proper fitted clothing that was also not second hand. He tried to protest but Hermione got her determination from her parents. There was no win for him.

He did however, love her first plan of bringing the British wizards up to the modern world. With Harry's card in hand, they bought out the whole aisle of muggle notebooks and of pens, pencils and highlighters. The cashier had looked at them like they were crazy but Hermione just smiled. "Its to help students at our school in need" After that it was smooth sailing, even getting them place the bags into the car. Her parents thought it was funny and brilliant.

Once they were home and settled into Harry into his own bedroom with a plan to get it decorated later inthe week, they met back in her room with all the school supplies.

She helped him begin working on his wandless magic. While he focused on levitating a pencil from her desk, she sorted the bags of items. She pulled a normal backpack from her closet that she didn't use anymore. Another expandable charm later, the items were going in.

She set aside a stack of each however. She decided 4 large notebooks each for Percy, Fred, George, Ron and Ginny with a pack of pens and highlights each was a good start. She shrunk them , each stack individually colored for each Weasley. And packed them for Hedwig to take to Molly with a note.

"What did you write to them?" Harry ask.

"Just that I was shopping and it was an idea I wanted to share about using notebooks for writing notes in class to spare the parchment and ink for essays and homework. With directions on getting more themselves if they wanted.

It should save them on money as parchment for so many children can get expensive. Notebooks and pens are much cheaper in comparison," she explains.

The rest of the summer was spent free. It took Harry a little to adjust to being just a kid though he, with her learning beside him, cooked once a week for the family.

It took a few weeks but after a few meetins and a court hearing, Drs Richard and Helen Granger were legally Harrys adopted parents. He had not expected them to fully adopt him and spent a good 20 minutes hugging them while crying. Hermione rubbed his back while he let it all out.

In celebration, they took a trip to Paris for 2 weeks. They did their school shopping there as well. That was were Harry handed her the 2nd bag of money.

"Harry, I can't accept this," She looks at the bag in disbelief.

"Hermione, you are my sister now. Whats mine is yours. I wrote to Gringotts already about it, we meet them when we get back. We are doing a proper blood adoption. We will both be Granger-Potter or Potter-Granger, whichever works. Well I think it actually Granger Potter-Black, we'll have to ask." She couldn't control her own tears now. Wow there was plenty of crying this summer.

--

The day to go back to school was hearwarming to say the least. Their parents took them out for breakfast instead of cooking and then arrived at Kings Cross right as the train arrived. Being early enough gave them an open pick of compartments and planty of time to say goodbye.

Seeing her reflection in the window still through her off. The blood adoption had brought some changes. His black hair had a curl to them now and her curls had darkened. Her eyes were green. And his no longer needed glasses.

As everyone settled in for the train ride, they were bombarded with questions.

"Hey whats going on here? Why do you look like that Hermione? Harry, wheres your glasses? How come you weren't able to come over during the summer? Thanks for the journals Hermione, I have never seen my mom so excited about something. It was strange going out into the muggle world but mum stocked up on all this same stuff and dad was able to take us to get pizza! It was really good!"

"Breath Roonikens," the twins appear in the doorway. "Your turning as red as our hair with all these questions. Give them a chance to answer."

"Yeah, we want to know too!"

Before they knew it, everyone on the train knew Harry and Hermione were now blood siblings, making Hermione no longer a muggleborn. Actually they hadn't even known she had been adopted in the first place to her parents. it was a debate of the trip on who her biological parents were.

Then once the Weasleys had showed up their notebooks, they were able to get started on their little project. In just an hour, they had sold out to all houses, even slytherins showed up, on all the notebooks and writing utensils. they made their money back and had been able to guide everyone to where to buy more. The twins had no problem spreading the tale of their trip to the muggle stores.

They enjoyed the ride in the carriages, Hermione intrigued that she couldn't see the thresals anymore. Professor McGonagall was waiting for them when they arrived.

"Good Evening Harry, Hermione, I just wanted you to know before school offically starts tomorrow that your student files have been properly updated. Congratulations on your family," And with that she was off to await the first years. Harry and Hermione smiled at each other as they continued inside.

"Look guys, my Gran bought me a new wand!" Neville showed it off to their table.

"Me too!!" Ron grins, pulling out his. Their tablewas the usual commotion throughout the night. They cheered for every child sorted no matter the house and The Weasleys made sure to be extra loud when Ginny got into Gryffindor.

She made a list that night to help her not forget some of her goals this year.

- Need a rooster to send down to the Basilisk. Let Snape collect it for potions with the request to set aside a few fangs for them.

- Talk to McGonnagall about a career day before Easter break for the 2nd years though open to all years to ask questions.

- Collect diary and diadem and send them to Head auror Amelia Bones

- Decide on a plan for capturing Peter Pettigrew. Place her own spelled necklace on his to prevent him from shifting and getting away.

She liked that last one. She had the necklace already to do the enchantments on it. She didn't want anyone to be able to take it off him. In fact, it might be best to make it invisible as well. Less questions that way.

She knew capturing Peter didn't promise a stop to the resurrection of Tom Riddle as Barty Crouch Jr was out there and anyone else could end up involved to bring him back. But at least it will release Sirius Black and give him the trial and the freedom he deserved.

She also needed to find a solution around Lockhart. He wasn't going to be teaching them anything important. She wondered if the Slytherin students might be the solution to that. "my father will hear about this!" popped into her head in Draco Malfoy's voice. Yes, yes he will hear about this. She pulls out the book she bought on the old grade 2 DADA textbook. Being a swot might come in handy in guiding the Malfoy heir to doing exactly what she needed him to do.
