I'm sorry that I'm behind in my writing but I'm being pressured with jobs and university. I also have found myself interested in new media. Of course, I promise that if I don't get all my writing done for this month, I'll get two done for next month. Enjoy.
The crowd had started to disperse once we had left, going about their own ways. Some had decided to stay around nearby, because I was just that amazing and they wanted to know why I was here. Vampire had brought us to a clearing not that far away from where we had just put on a show for the demons.
"So Ema," said Vampire. "What is it you wanted to discuss with us that are not Halloween ideas?" It was time to ask the question; I was expecting the same answer. I would ask them about my memories, and they would say they passed them off to someone else. We would then have to go find that person, and that person will answer the same thing and the chase will keep going until I eventually find my memories. How long was this going to take? I wanted to know who I was already. I looked at Jack nervously; he nodded. Here goes nothing.
"Listen, you don't get out much so you probably don't know but my memories are missing and I haven't got them back yet." Vampire looked shocked; maybe he will take this seriously.
"You don't remember who you are!? That's terrible! But if that's the case…how did you know about us?"
"What? No! I mean I don't have any memories of my past life! From before I became Ema Fay!"
"Of course you don't…no one remembers that time."
"What?" I was confused. Vampire was obviously not getting the point, of course none of them would. "Not from before I was I born! I don't have the memories from before I was the illusion master, from when I had a normal life with a normal place to call home and…a…family." I looked at Jack, but I don't think he understood the meaning behind my eyes.
"She's looking for a canister with her baby teeth in it," explained Jack.
"Why?" said Vampire, dumbfounded. I face palmed myself at his remark.
"Your baby teeth hold memories from your childhood, doofus!" I exclaimed.
"Oh, you mean those memories. I'm so sorry about that Ema." Vampire turned to the other Demons that stuck around and walked towards them. "I mean, we all have our memories from before, as do most people, but it's always personal, not meant to be shared unless you oblige. Would you like us to share each ours," he asked, turning back to me.
"Uh, no thanks, it would take forever and we don't have that long."
"Alright, so what does this canister look like?"
"You took it from the groundhog 25 years ago on Halloween. It was gold and had a picture of a little girl with blonde hair and blue eyes." He discussed it with the demons, and after a few quick murmurs, he turned back to me and Jack and said, "Yeah, we remember that canister, but if it's yours, why would it have that picture on it?"
I focused on changing my appearance to match the picture described; making my hair blonde and my eyes blue.
"Ringing any bells," I said in deadpan.
"That used to be your face?" said Vampire. "It's not you, though."
"I know," I said, changing myself back to being a brunette with brown eyes. "But at the same time it is."
"Do you know where it is?" asked Jack. "I'm guessing Ema's pretty anxious to know who she was before." The demons gave each other nervous glances. That was a flag. Vampire stepped forward as I started to turn red, putting two and two together. I clenched my fists and awaited their response.
"Well..." said Vampire nervously.
"What?" I asked, keeping my anger in check.
"We did have it."
"But…"
"But, you see…about a week ago…"
"What happened!?" I said, grabbing him.
"About a week ago…we were making plans for Halloween…of course we would take his advice…of course…he asked a lot of questions…we didn't see the harm…Pitch isn't that bad a guy."
"PITCH!" I was steaming. "WHAT HAPPENED?! EXPLAIN…NOW!"
"We were having trouble coming up with plans for Halloween, and Pitch was making his usual visit to try to get his scariness back. He gave us some really good ideas, but he also seemed very interested in you, so he asked us a lot of questions because we were friends with you. We didn't see the harm in him knowing a little bit more about you, so we told him everything we knew. Mummy was playing with the canister at the time, because he likes gold. Pitch recognized it as yours and said he'd return it to you, so we gave it to him. Of course, seeing as you don't have it yet, it probably wasn't a good idea."
"YA THINK!?" I was on fire a little at that time.
"We're so sorry you still don't have your memories Ema, but maybe now we can talk about some Halloween ideas." I calmed my composure a little.
"Okay, but first, why don't you all go jump off a cliff and when you make it to the bottom, bang your heads on some rocks for a couple hours!"
"Alright," Vampire shrugged, and then he and the rest of the demons that were there went to go do just that. My combustion was so big that it illuminated the grey sky as I let out a skyward scream. It died down, but I was still aflame.
"PITCH HAS MY MEMORIES! I KNEW THOSE DEMONS COULDN'T BE TRUSTED! THEY RATTED ME OUT AND THEY GAVE HIM MY MEMORIES! THOSE IDIOTS! IS THERE NO ONE I CAN TRUST IN THIS ENTIRE WORLD!
"EMA," cried Jack. "COOL IT!" He put a hand on my shoulder sending a layer of frost across my body. It took about a minute before I cooled down. As soon as I did, I held myself and collapsed to the ground. I felt cold, and not just because I had frost on me. I felt like I was on the verge of losing everyone, and I didn't want that. So, Pitch had my memories. He could have pulled them out at any time, but I guess he was too amused by my hopeless goose chase that he decided to wait until after I found out to reveal them to me. He was playing with me, taunting me with what I want and what I feared. I wanted him to stop. I wanted all of this to be over. There were many things I wanted, but I had no clue on what was the ticket to get them. I had no idea on what I was going to do.
Poor Ema. Why do I make my characters suffer so much? Answer: If I didn't, it wouldn't be interesting. I love the journey I go through and the characters go through when it comes breaking my cuties. Anyway, what will happen next? I'm pretty sure they'll still be with the demons, they still have some stuff to go over. After that however, this story will move along. Stay tuned for what's left to be revealed.
