Admiring you're dragging this on too long... Don't worry, things get moving in this chapter. Also I noticed I use a lot of tell don't show. I'm imagining this as a movie, but also with narration from Ema. It's a little tricky to do both so it's not perfect, that's why this is fanfiction. Also, I've noticed while writing this chapter I may have made Ema Aro/Ace: Neato. I'm on the Ace spectrum myself and I started writing this back before I realized that. Maybe it was partly due to that internalized thinking. The main reason I did that was because I'm not a fan of shipping, I didn't want anyone shipping my character with him or anyone so I made her hate romance. Nice I could include some honest representation though. Anyway, enjoy the chapter!
"This is just perfect!" I cried. I created a quick shield, grabbed Jack and flew as far away as I could. "Out of all the people who had to come and help us it had to be her!?"
"I know you don't like her," said Jack, "But is it really a big deal if she comes and helps."
"May I remind you Jack," I said flattening my head for a moment to avoid a sand boomerang, "We are currently being forced to fight our friends at the moment." I turned and fired a few arrows at the nightmares, aiming so that I would just graze them. This made the nightmares stop, our real friends probably laughing at how bad nightmare-me was.
"I should remind also remind you that Cupid's shot is almost as good as mine!" I quickly made a shield to block the multiple Nightmare sand heart-arrows coming at Jack's head.
"If only I could shrink you," I said, "We'd be harder to hit."
"Pitch would probably counter by shrinking the nightmares," said Jack, firing icicles at the incoming projectiles, shattering them.
"You're right, dang it!" I said smacking the projectiles away with a giant hammer.
"Surely our friends realize the nightmares are merely defending themselves, right?" I made myself look like a librarian at his comment.
"Shirley would inform you that she doesn't need to check to know they'll still attack us anyway, probably thinking they have the upper hand." I made a giant book appear to act as a shield, its pages swatting away the weapons.
Knowing Nightmare Ema was probably conjuring the same things made me realize something.
"Hey, Pitch isn't being creative…he's just copying off of me! You cheater!" I shook my fist in the air.
"You can beat him up when we get out of here," said Jack, nearly dodging a few arrows. I noticed the nightmare Cupids getting ready to launch some special kind of ammunition. Tracking arrows they looked like. You ever hear how love will always find you and you can't escape it, scary I know, yeah well she has arrows for that. During one of our competitions I had to find a way to counter it. What is a good counter for love that sneaks up on you and is inescapable… the friend zone or sibling zone!
I plucked a hair from my head, and plucked a hair from Jack's head. Jack gave me a tiny glare while I rubbed the hairs together, stretched them out into an arrow and snapped it in half to make two arrows. Fire once, fire twice; both the tracking arrows fired were shattered by my friend-zone arrows.
"Nothing breaks an "I love you" more than 'we're such great friends' or 'You're like a brother to me.'"
"Gee thanks Ema," said Jack, "But maybe ask for my hair next time."
"Hey I wouldn't want to get hit by these in real time; I did us a favor."
"This is kind of real though…" said Jack, a realization dawning.
"What's on your mind," I asked, whilst spinning a sword to deflect some incoming projectiles. I made a couple shields to block North's swords, grabbed some sand brambles, and made the foliage hard to attack us with boomerangs. That just made our enemies want to crush us within the foliage. We got bombarded by tooth fairies on all sides. Cupid would shoot us if we exited the crushing menace, and sand man kept bombarding us with whips.
I made some illusions of us exiting the brambles in all directions; each bunch I made was blasted with attacks. I had to make tons if we were going to escape. Hundreds of us were flying about; I draped us in a black sheet and had us plummet.
"Ema, what do you think would happen if we were hit by one of these attacks?"
"Something that happened to sandman or something excruciatingly similar," I suggested.
"Yeah, but we were whipped and nothing happened, we just got whiplash."
"True, we are actually being hit by these weapons as well as sand. This is why we kept dodging."
"What about the stuff with powers, do you think that would still work?"
"Well they are attacking us directly in a way, so…you mean Cupid's love arrows?!" I was shaking Jack's shoulders. My eyes were wide. I turned white with fear for a brief moment.
"Both scenarios would be bad," I said.
"Both scenarios?"
What do you think we could fall in love with inside this sand tornado? The only things in here are you and the sand! I don't want to fall in love with either!" Jack gave me an incredulous stare.
"I get it, but ouch."
"If I fell in love with you, Pitch would use that as leverage against me, and vice versa. We're the two people he wants to torment the most right now. He might also want us to join him and if we fell in love with the sand…"
"We won't let that happen, we can't!" said Jack. An egg bomb went off near us. They knew were we were again. I threw off the sheet, and put giant targets for the Cupids to shoot. Jack threw up an ice wall. "We can't do this forever, the guardians will tire out and Pitch will go back to his original plan with the first nightmares."
"Speaking of original plans," I said. I tuned into Mini-me's mind. 'Mini-me, tell the guardians and Cupid that they're attacking us when they attack the nightmares!'
Mini-me turned herself big in four locations; as soon as the nightmares knew I was sending a message, they went to destroy them one by one.
"Message from Ema Fay," cried Min-me. "When you attack the nightmares you are also-"
Destroyed.
"attacking E-" Destoryed.
"ma as well as-" Destroyed.
"Jack Frost" She was nearly destroyed there, but I pulled her within herself so that she could remain as a speck and rebuild herself. I wouldn't know what was going on for a while. Hopefully they could get the message.
The nightmares had nearly knocked down the wall.
"Good news, North and the doctor know that they're attacking me, and Sandman knows that he's attacking both of us. Everyone else got a bit of the message. Bad news, Cupid probably won't care if she attacks me, and everyone else will probably think they're fighting Pitch, or the tornado or nothing at all.
Saying this I conjured up a giant sandy Pitch Black, a Tornado and the sand started shifting about starting to make itself hollow.
"Oops," I said.
"No, this can buy us some time."
"To what end? It's our friends fighting these things! Also I'm not sure if stupid Cupid got the memo or the hints, and her arrows are pretty powerful." The ice wall was near destroyed, and the Giant Pitch and the Tornado were being attacked and overwhelmed.
"I think the guardians get it now, but they don't understand what's happening." A sand arrow had grazed past me. Jack got concerned. "It's just my shirt that's torn, I'm fine."
"For how long," said a voice. We grew defensive, and I turned a shade red. "It doesn't matter if your battle with guardians ends," said Pitch. "The nightmares will still fight my battle. No matter what will happen, Ema, you and your precious friends, your precious guardians…will lose."
I started laughing, and then I started to glow.
"If you think any of this would convince me I joined the wrong side you're wrong. You say we're going to lose, not if we break the rules and change the game! I'm Ema Fay, nothing's impossible for me!" I took a deep breath, swinging my sword out in front of me.
"We have no other option Jack, we have to break out."
"But we're closed off," he said while slamming his staff in front of him.
"Use your imagination." I looked up. I aimed an arrow at the top of the tornado. "Jack, help me with this." He touched my shoulder, and frost crawled up my arm and onto the arrow. I fired with every ounce of power I had. I took my shot.
The arrow flew upwards, and passed all of the enemies charging at us. As it flew, it turned multi-weaponed: spinning-spikes, crackling sparklers, ice spears that shot frost, blades in every which way, twirling whips, and even an explosive tip on the end. I prepared a giant slingshot and shot myself and Jack inside it. The top of the tornado exploded and as it did, I held onto Jack and shot upward like a rocket. It almost looked like we weren't going to make it, but we flew out of the hole when it was just large enough for us to pass through.
As we soared through the air the tornado exploded outward, no longer necessary. Hurray! We were out of there. Of course, it seemed our nightmares were still active and were rushing up to meet us.
So, what do you think? Yes I ended it on another cliffhanger, I just like doing that to you. It keeps you guys coming back for more. EHEHEHEHE! Anyways, stay tuned for the next chapter!
