Chapter 13: Post Year 1 Interlude
While eating breakfast there was a knock on the door and they opened to see Blaze the Cat.
"Hey. I thought I would visit Sage and get a break from my duties." She said before noticing the others. "Oh hello, I'm Blaze the Cat."
"I'm Hermione Granger, these are my parents." Hermione said. "What duties do you have?"
"Well." Eggman said. "In addition to guarding the Sol Emeralds, she is also a princess. Which means politics, so I can see why she wants to get a break."
"Don't you want to rule the world?" Hermione asked tilting her head in confusion. "That would force you to have to deal with the political arena as well."
Eggman just opened his mouth in shock before pausing. "I need to think about that. There must be a way not to need politics."
"If you find it let me know will you?" Blaze asked.
"Oh by the way what are the Sol Emeralds?" Dan asked, causing Blaze to smile and tell her story.
"You've been through so much." Emma said hugging Blaze, much to her shock, before she returned the hug as Hermione and Sage joined in.
They spent quite a bit of time with Blaze. From watching her control the fire to make shapes, to playing games like tag which was difficult since Blaze was almost as fast as Sonic. There was even one time where Sage and Hermione snuck up on Blaze and tackled her before tickling her into a laughing fit while she used her tail to tickle back. This had a side effect of getting a strand of Blaze's fur stuck underneath Hermione's fingernail deep enough that it wouldn't come out for several months around Christmas to be exact but they wouldn't know that for a long time or what it would cause.
Eventually though Blaze had to go though over the Summer Hermione was introduced to almost everyone, except for Jet, Wave, and Storm who they could not find. Despite Sage helping Hermione learn how to use an Extreme Gear and taking her to their favorite practice spots.
Of course the mystery was solved towards the end of the summer, when the three of them showed up at Eggman's.
"Hey Sage, Hermione." Jet said.
"Jet, Wave, Storm!" Sage said. "Where have you been?"
"Hogwarts." Wave said.
"We've been getting things ready for the Extreme Gear class we will be teaching." Storm added. "It kept us busy, but we're done now, and since we were coming this way anyway we offered to deliver your Hogwarts letters with the supply list for year two. Which is why you get it early."
Eggman looked at the list and frowned.
"A lot of books from this Gilderoy Lockhart." Eggman noted.
"Don't remind me." Wave shuddered.
"What's wrong." Sage aske seeing it.
"Lockhart is the new assistant defense professor." Wave sighed. "He is narcissistic and thinks all women want to be with him. After meeting him I looked at his books and he couldn't have done everything the books say he does unless he can be in multiple places at the same time. Worse after seeing that we set up a small test, and he is horrible at defense. We're pretty sure he is a fraud taking credit for what others did. but he was also the only one who applied for the job, so we're stuck with him."
"You mean the books are wrong?" Hermione said almost in tears, before running out.
"Hermione!" Sage called as Dan and Emma looked sorry.
"I guess encouraging Hermione that nonfiction books are never wrong was a bad idea." Emma sighed.
"Probably as much as encouraging her belief that authority is never corrupt." Dan agreed, as the others looked at them in shock.
"I'll talk to her." Eggman said getting up. "I have plenty of examples of that not being true, and if she doesn't learn now then she will be in trouble."
They came back a while later with Hermione calmer, but they never mentioned what was said, though hopefully it worked, and got Shadow to take them to Diagon Alley for shopping, getting there the day before the book signing, and so they missed it. They spent the rest of the summer playing and studying before heading to the train via Shadow.
Ending AN: if anyone wants to contribute to my stories as a collaborator PM me since otherwise my stories would fall to the wayside
Next time: the events of Year 2 are about to begin and during the train ride the trio of the story will be complete and here's a hint. she's most likely a seer with how often she's correct about important events and she's known to have a quirk where she talks about creatures that can't be seen easily if at all.
