Chapter 26 It's in the Blood
"She hasn't left his side," the nurse whispered to the specialist as she adjusted the potion drip.
The dark magic specialist assigned to Harry's complicated case lowered his clipboard enough to peer over the top. A very pale Harry Potter lay unmoving in a deep sleep. His wife, Ginny, was asleep in the chair next to him, her head resting on the bed and her hand clutching Harry's.
His decision to keep Harry asleep was a critical one. If awake, Harry would disturb the entire hospital wing with his screams. His writhing and begging for someone to end his life brought his wife and friends to tears. He had never seen a case so severe, nor something so dark he couldn't figure out. Dr. Granger was assisting him by researching dark magic spells. Unfortunately, he wasn't even sure where this type of magic originated from and was without a clue on how to wrest it from his body.
"She may be here for quite some time," the specialist grumbled, flipping through the chart.
"Have you heard from Dr. Granger?"
"Nothing yet. She's checking the Hogwarts restricted section. They have one of the largest collections of books on dark magic, you know."
"Do you think…?"
"No," he shook his head sadly, "He can't stay this way much longer."
The nurse and specialist left to continue their rounds in the hospital. Ginny raised her head as they left, her lips formed an angry, grim line. How could no one know what to do? There had to be something or someone who could help him.
She gazed at Harry. When asleep, he looked like the boy she had fallen in love with. It had always been Harry. The very first time she had seen him, her stomach was so full of butterflies she'd felt sick. She had cursed her fair skin when she blushed beet red up to her hairline. Ginny touched her cheek, so lost in her memory, she expected her skin to burn her fingers. She had been so embarrassed; she couldn't even talk to him. Ginny had looked into his eyes and had been lost.
She was over watching him suffer. She knew what needed to be done. Ginny leaned down and kissed Harry gently on the forehead, running her fingers through his hair and cupping his cheek.
"I will fix this, sweetheart. I will fix this," she promised.
She strode from the room without looking back.
Minutes later…
Ginny raised her wand and blasted the front door of Malfoy Manor, leaving a smoking hole where the massive front door used to be. Before the debris could settle, Ginny forced her way through, her boots crunching on the splinters of wood and glass on the floor.
Her wand whipped a tongue of fire that obliterated anything it touched. Portraits, furniture, and priceless chandeliers exploded and burned. She continued her march forward in search of Delphini, leaving a path of destruction in her wake. It felt good to hunt her down. It felt great to take action. She felt so powerful her skin would burst. She wondered if this was how her mum felt when she'd killed Bellatrix.
As if summoned, Bellatrix and Voldemort appeared before her, and Ginny knew Delphini couldn't be far behind. She flicked her wand at the pair and they disappeared in a flash of fire. Pieces floated away like burning leaves, sparks of fire on the edges with a center of black ash.
Ginny smiled as Delphini screamed.
