Chapter Three: A Missing Piece

Aizawa wakes up to thunderous voices and jumps up out of bed. He remembers the night before. He brought Kurata home and got her situated on the couch. Her voice is familiar but there's also a man's voice.

He rushes to the living room in a panic when he notes that someone didn't break into his home. Kurata is safe, and the voice is coming from an old, closed, archaic flip phone.

He faintly remembers Tsukauchi mentioning that this Serizawa person could communicate through electronics. Aizawa knew nothing of the person besides from what little came from a brief. Mostly that they're a time traveler and he got separated from two others, ergo, keep a passive outlook for the other two. Kurata ended up being one of them.

"I'm not sure. Let me ask."

"Don't worry. I'll follow the trace of your phone. I'll be there shortly."

Tome stares at the now silent phone. She wants psychic powers so badly. Urg. Even if Reigen doesn't have any powers, she still gets to witness Serizawa's abilities - and on occasion through the others by association.

She notices Aizawa up and clicking a button on the coffee machine. "Oh, you're up." Her voice dry and she plops back on the couch.

He already has to deal with teens throughout the week. Now he has to watch one even while at home. Work never ends.

"Yes, I'm up. Want to tell me how he plans on tracking us? I thought his power had to do with communication." He takes a long sip of coffee as it finishes brewing.

"Psychic powers." Right, she did mention something about that on the street last night. "His powers are pretty flexible. Unlike Takenaka's."

Aizawa stills. "Multiple powers?" Even if there were quirk cases before the glowing baby, and assuming psychic powers was a term of reference before quirks, that still exceeds what's expected of a quirk. Well, if he's tracing her device it could all still be linked through technology even if it is outrageous.

"Yeah!" Now that she thinks of it, psychic powers are pretty split. Even among the psychics she knows about half have flexible powers and half have one designated use. Odd that the ones she's closer too have more flexibility. She should feel lucky to be around so many psychics, and she is, but it also feels like rubbing salt into a wound. "Barriers, reinforcement, exorcism, and telekinesis among other things."

Aizawa feels an oncoming headache when he hears knocking. Not at his door, but at his window.

Tome opens the window to let the man in as Aizawa glances at the clock. It's only been a few minutes. He knows Tsukauchi doesn't live that nearby. He doesn't know his address but does know he lives in another district of the city.

"Tome, you're alive." Tome pats the man's shoulder as he cries and snot dribbles out.

A full grown ass man. Aizawa had been expecting someone younger. A group of friends exploring together. An idea supported by him not wanting to live alone. He tries to reason that he's a relative but their similarities end at their hair colour.

"When did you get here?" Tome asks curiously.

"Nearly a month ago?" He sniffles. "I couldn't contact you or Reigen and I didn't know what to do. These people in a bar I landed in let me stay. I thought it was kind and the young man had a lot of video games I've never played which was a nice distraction."

Even if Serizawa was proving he could do more with his life, gaming is still fun. Tome likes games too so that's proof they aren't bad. It's just the fear of leaving his room or not doing anything with his life that's the problem.

"Games? Doesn't sound bad."

"He seemed a little troubled though. I thought I could help. Like others have done for me. I don't think I got through though. Only made him angrier." It's sad he couldn't help but it also makes Serizawa respect Reigen and Shigeo all the more.

"What made you leave?"

"I didn't think staying around people who want to destroy society was good for me. I promised not to go down that path again. It's when I realized I could ask the police to help. Tsukauchi has been very kind!"

"Can we go back to the again part?"

Serizawa rubs the back of his head. Reigen said he shouldn't going around telling people but he forgot that Tome didn't know despite everyone else in his immediate friend group was there to witness it.

"Well, you see…" Serizawa notes the other man in the room. Of course, Tome would be staying with someone too. He was being incredibly rude to him. He'd been taught to greet people. "How rude of me! I'm Serizawa Katsuya. It's very nice to meet you." He bows at a much deeper angle than warranted in this situation.

"Aizawa Shouta. But I'd like you to go back to the 'again' part too." Aizawa waits for a response as he stands a little more alert. Under protection or not, if he's committed villainy while here it's his duty to arrest him.

"I've changed! I promise. The former boss showed me I could leave my room and next thing I know his business - er villain group? - kidnapped the Prime Minister and was claiming to take over the world. I'm grateful Reigen has allowed me to work for him as I integrate into society."

"That was you?!"

Aizawa doesn't know how to respond. Kidnapping? World domination? He doesn't remember these events though Kurata clearly knew the events in question. He knew they lost some information about the pre quirk era but this seemed like a pretty big thing to be forgotten in time.

"Sorry."

"I was safe watching from a shelter." Tome now has confirmation that the esper attack was actually espers. There had been a lot of controversy online about what actually happened and now there was living proof in front of her who could tell her what happened.

Also, didn't that attack lead to the creation of the giant broccoli that got shipped off into space? She wants all the details!

Aizawa opens his mouth to question him more but shuts his mouth. As long as he doesn't cause trouble here it's not his problem.

Besides, Kurata doesn't seem frightened so maybe it sounds worse than it was. It takes less than a second to come to the conclusion that no way it wasn't as bad as it sounds.

He just hopes this is solved sooner than later because these people were odd and he doesn't know how much he can handle.
