Waverly's POV

"Situation? What situation?" I ask, frowning at the sudden turn of events.

Nicole inclines her head in Rachel's direction. The younger girl simply points towards the phone in her hand.

Oh. She received another message then.

"Already?" I ask, looking at the phone in disbelief. It had barely been more than two weeks since the last drop request.

Rachel bites her lip, a worried frown on her face as she looks down. Something seems very off, so I look towards Nicole for an explanation. She places her hand on Rachel's shoulder giving it a comforting squeeze.

When Nicole looks up again, her eyes flicker briefly towards Wynonna before meeting mine. "Yeah, it is much more urgent this time. They want her to be at the old mill at six pm."

I check the time on my watch. "Shit, that means there is not much time. I'll take her. Come on, Rachel." I make a move towards the barn door, only to be stopped by Nicole's gentle hands.

"Wait, Waves. I am going."

I stand up to my full height, meeting her gaze with a stern look. "No, Nicole. You have a concussion. Even if it is mild, you can't drive. It's too dangerous." I say firmly.

"You are right." Her agreement takes me by surprise, giving me pause before I could pose my readied counter argument. Her lips curve up into a small smile at my loss for words before her face turns serious once more.

"I mean about the driving. I need you to drive Rachel to the mill and drop me off at the police station on the way there." At my questioning gaze Nicole moves towards her bed, crouches down to remove a box from beneath it.

I notice it is the box of all our findings on Bobo del Rey.

"Are you thinking of giving the box to the police? Do you think it will be enough to get them to investigate?" I ask.

"Did you say Bobo del Rey?" Wynonna's voice interrupts our conversation. Not waiting for an answer, she moves towards the box and starts going through the contents.

"What are you doing?" I ask, curious as to where her sudden interest in Bobo del Rey had come from. She pauses her investigation of the box to look up at me.

"Firstly, you need to tell me what is going on here. Why are a couple of farm kids interested in Bobo del Rey? And why do you need to be at the mill at six pm?" She asks, her gaze moving from me to Rachel and finally landing on Nicole with a raised eyebrow.

"No offence, Wynonna, but we don't have time to explain. Waves can tell you about it when we get back. We really have to get going now." Nicole gets a better grip on the box and turns towards the barn exit, but Wynonna obscures her path.

"I am coming with you. You can fill me in on what you know about Bobo as we go." My sister says, her posture daring for Nicole to attempt arguing. Nicole releases an annoyed breath. Sympathizing with my girlfriend's frustration, I turn towards Wynonna with a questioning frown.

"Why are you so interested in Bobo? I ask, feeling completely confused as to how she knows about Bobo and her sudden curiosity regarding the crime lord.

Wynonna drags her determined blue eyes away from Nicole to face me. "You know how I told you I found another job after the stripper gig?"

I nod in the affirmative, ignoring the raised eyebrows coming from Nicole and Rachel at the mention of Wynonna's previous career choice.

"Well, that's actually why I am here in Purgatory. I am investigating Bobo del Rey for a client."

A collective shout of "What?!" echoes throughout the barn. With a sigh, Wynonna opens her leather jacket, removing what looks like a badge. Beneath a headshot of my sister, the following is stated in bold letters:

Wynonna Earp, S.P.I

Black Badge Division

"Woah, are you a F.B.I agent?!" I ask, pride flooding my veins at the thought of my sister having an actual respectable career.

"No, Waves." Wynonna says with a chuckle, smiling at my reaction to her big reveal.

"I am a SPI agent. It stands for Special Private Investigator. Look, I'll tell you more about it on the way, just like you are going to tell me everything you know about Bobo del Rey and your involvement with him. But we should probably get a move on if you want to make it in time to that mill. We can all drive in my truck, it's a double cab." Wynonna says with finality, moving out the barn.

For a moment Rachel, Nicole and I just stand there in silence trying to process what just transpired.

"She is basically a cop, right? She could help us finally get my mom back!" Rachel breaks the silence, her voice heavy with hope. Not waiting for a response, she runs after Wynonna and this time her young shoulders seeming visibly lighter.

Nicole and I look at each other with the same expressions of bafflement, not entirely sure what this all means.

With a shrug, I grab her hand and pull her in the direction of Wynonna's truck. "I don't know what is happening here, but we aren't going to find out by staying behind."

Nicole squeezes my hand gently, confirming that she too felt the sudden surge of hope as we make our way outside.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

The tune of Sidelines by Crawling King Snake fill the cabin of Wynonna's truck as we make our way out the farm gate.

She goes to turn the dial up as if we were on a family road trip and not about to drop off a bunch of drugs for a crime syndicate. I smack her hand away lightly from my position in the passenger seat.

"Hey! Come on, Waves. I love this song."

"You can listen to music all you want after you tell us why you are really here in Purgatory." I say sternly, folding my arms and looking at her expectantly.

I hear a snicker coming from the back seat that sounds suspiciously like Nicole.

Wynonna rolls her eyes, but relents regardless. "All right then, geez. You always were so damn impatient."

I raise my eyebrow in challenge, Wynonna just grins like a smartass before starting on the rest of her tale.

"It all began the night when I got kicked out of the strip joint after having broken the nose of yet another very important, albeit complete douchebag, client."

Wynonna ignores the sound of disapproval I make in response to hearing about her actions, continuing the story as we pass cornfield after cornfield.

"I was just minding my own business, walking back to the trailer park where I stayed and feeling like life was just never gonna stop kicking me in the nuts when out of nowhere this tall, dark and mysterious hunk of man falls into step beside me."

"Is this about to take a dark turn? I have watched You enough times to know a stalker situation." Rachel pipes up from her place leaning between the two front seats.

"Would ya shut it, kid. I am telling the story here." Wynonna huffs at the teen. But then she pauses, contemplating. She meets Rachel's gaze in the rearview mirror with a smirk.

"But since we are on the topic, can you add me to your Netflix account? I haven't seen Season 3 yet and I am having some serious Penn Badgley withdrawal. I mean, that man can stalk my ass anytime."

"Preach it sister." Rachel says with a solemn nod of agreement.

I hear a gagging sound coming from behind me and honestly, I have never related to anything more.

I catch my girlfriend's gaze in the side mirror, giving her a look of exasperation. Nicole smiles back at me with a shrug and a wink, causing a swarm of butterflies to invade my stomach. I look down as a blush warms my cheeks.

Once my composure is recovered, I return my attention to my sister, who was currently having a very animated and very heterosexual conversation with Rachel.

"Sorry to interrupt this sweet moment of bonding, but can we PLEASE get back to the issue at hand?" I say, my tone full of annoyance.

"Geez okay, fun police." Wynonna grumbles with a roll of her eyes. She ignores the look I shoot her and continues where she left off.

"So this dude walks beside me, right. At first I try the classic 'ignore him and walk faster' move. But he just could not take a damn hint and even had the audacity to grab my arm. Having dealt with more than enough patriarchal bullshit for one day, I stopped and rounded on him with a raised fist. But before I could manage to land a single hit, he blocked me without much effort. I tried again and again, but he blocked every one of my attempts to cause his gorgeous face damage."

"Kung fu panda, but make it sexy." Rachel comments, causing Nicole to snort in the back.

"Oh this guy was no panda, let me tell you… he was all muscle with reflexes like a damn house cat. When I finally became too tired to fight any longer, he gripped my hands and said Wynonna Earp, is it? I know I must have looked utterly confused and very annoyed, because he smirked at me before releasing my hands. Then he explained that he had been at the strip club that night and saw how well I handled myself. He mentioned how his company could really use someone with my spirit, handing me a card. Then he walked away without so much as a glance back and disappeared into the night like some sexy magician."

"What did the card say?" I ask, very much intrigued.

"It read Black Badge, SPI division. X. Dolls."

"Like yours." I say, to which Wynonna nods.

"The card had an address on it too. When I finally got back to my sad trailer that night, and had to eat yet another can of beans for dinner, I realized that I literally had nothing more to lose. So the next day I made myself as presentable as I could and pitched up at the location on the card."

"Was it one of those big ass buildings like the F.B.I?" Rachel asks enthusiastically, to which Wynonna chuckles and shakes her head.

"Nope. As badass as it sounds, the great Black Badge Division's base of operations was nothing more than an oversized supply closet located in a rundown building on the outskirts of town. It was still better than my trailer though, and I was taught to never judge a book by its cover by a very smart person." Wynonna's eyes flick to mine, a small smile playing on her lips.

I can't help but grin back at her, remembering the afternoon she came into my room as I was studying To Kill a Mocking Bird for English class. Wynonna took one look at the book in my hand and proceeded to place me under serious interrogation as to why I had taken a sudden interest in murdering birds.

I had laughed and had to explain what the book was all about.

"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." Wynonna quotes proudly, causing me to smile and nod my approval at her remembering it still.

She looks away from me again to focus ahead of us as we reach the end of the dirt road and climb onto the paved highway which would take us into town.

"Inside that run down little office, I was met with the man who had given me the card. He welcomed me and introduced himself as Xavier Dolls. The only other person in the office was his secretary, who introduced herself as Jeannie Lucado. I asked him where the rest of his people was, but he laughed and said they were it."

"You probably should have sticked to stripping." Rachel snickered.

Wynonna shrugs at her. "Those were my thoughts exactly. But then Dolls got up and asked me to follow him before I could make a break for it. He handed me a gun and asked me if I knew how to use it. I admitted to having watched a couple of YouTube videos on guns as a kid… just in case I needed to protect my little sister."

She says the last part more solemnly and I am once again reminded to what lengths my sister would have gone to keep me safe from our father. I instinctively grab her hand and give it a small squeeze to show her the gratitude for something that I could never repay.

She simply smiles at me warmly before focusing back on the road, down gearing to overtake a Fiat Punto driving much too slow in front of us.

"Dolls gave me a very brief overview on basic gun handling and safety on the way to his car. Then he drove us to this dilapidated house at the center of a wooded meadow just off the highway. Before I knew what the hell was happening, he kicked down the door and headed inside like he owned the damn place. After recovering from my initial shock, I followed him inside."

"This sounds like the start of any horror movie. The place was probably gross inside right?" Rachel says.

Wynonna does not smile or laugh this time, instead a grimness takes ahold of her features.

"The place was absolutely filthy. The windows were covered by yellowing newspapers, which were also strewn all over the floor. There were cans and plates containing mouldy food everywhere. I even saw a couple of dead animal carcasses on the floor. The stench was overwhelming, like death and decay. I had to keep my nose closed to stop from throwing up. Dolls was of course completely unaffected by the revolting stench, remaining on high alert as we moved through the cabin. I followed him into a bedroom, where we found a young girl handcuffed to the bed."

"Shit." I hear Nicole say as I gasp in horror. Wynonna grips the steering wheel a bit tighter and her jaw tenses at what was clearly a horrible memory.

"The girl was barely fourteen… she had bruises on her arms and appeared extremely weak. A drip was inserted into a vein on her arm…"

"Like in the movie Taken?" Rachel asks in a small, sad voice. Wynonna nods. "Yep. It was the same. The girl had been drugged so she would not… put up a fight." Wynonna does not say much more on what the girl must have been put through, but we could all fill in the terrible blanks.

"Dolls told me to remove the drip from the girl's arm as he started picking the lock on the handcuffs. As we were busy with this, a guy entered the room and ran straight at Dolls with a knife. But Xavier Dolls is a bad guy's worst nightmare. He blocked the man's attack with lightning-fast self-defense maneuvers, easily freeing the knife from his opponent's hand and then he knocked the guy out with the butt of his gun. It all happened faster than I could blink."

"Are you sure his name is not Liam Neesen?" Rachel asks in awe.

"I would not be surprised if it were, honestly. Xavier Dolls in action is really something to witness."

I do not fail to catch the look Wynonna gets when speaking of her colleague. Seems like I was not the only one to find a romance during our time apart. I make a mental note to ask her about it when we got back to the farm again.

"Anyways, so then Dolls used the handcuffs he removed from the girl to cuff the guy. After locking the bastard in the back of his truck, Dolls came back to fetch the girl and then we were off back into town like one big happy messed up little family."

Wynonna releases a breath, her voice a softer timbre now.

"The drive back to town was very quiet, Dolls was stoically focused on the road and I was still trying to process everything that happened. We stopped at the hospital first to make sure the girl got proper medical care. We only left her once Dolls made sure that her family were on their way. Then we stopped at the police station and handed over the man to the cops along with all the evidence that would put him away for life."

"You guys saved that girl. That is amazing, Wy." I praise, in awe of my sister.

"We did and I certainly did not expect that was how my day was going to go. Of course I fired off a million questions at Dolls on our way back the office. He calmly explained that the girl had gone missing a week ago and her parents had come to Black Badge in desperation after the cops gave up on trying to find her. He has a lot of contacts and got a lead on the abandoned cabin in the woods. I just happened to come to the office on the day he was planning to head out there."

"That is quite the first day to have." Nicole says, her own voice filled with awe.

"It sure was. And that was all it took for me to get hooked. I finally had an opportunity to do something good, to get real justice and help put an end to bastards who think they can just get away with their disgusting acts towards the defenseless and the innocent. I signed up as soon as we stepped back into the office and practically begged Dolls to train me on everything he knew. The rest is history." Wynonna ends with a shrug.

"So are you now as badass as Dolls?" Rachel asks excitedly.

"I'd like to hope so, kid. He taught me how to properly defend myself, be it with a weapon or not. I would have been dead many times if it weren't for him being my mentor. He takes his work very seriously and makes sure to be prepared for any situation."

"Is everything you do for Black badge that dangerous?" I ask, worry for Wynonna's safety gripping my heart.

She turns towards me, her eyes softening as they land on me.

"I am not going to lie to you, Waves. The stuff we do is no walk in the park. We are literally the people that are contacted when the police fails at doing their job or when the situation requires discretion. Our clients consist primarily of witnesses who are too afraid to go to the cops, or people who have information on illegal activities but who do not want to risk it getting into the wrong hands, especially with the amount of corruption law enforcement has been known for. We tackle stuff like sex trafficking, drug syndicates, money laundering, dirty cops' etcetera."

"So how'd you guys get tipped off on Bobo Del Rey?" Nicole asks just as we finally turn into town.

"I was contacted by a retired cop. He used to work at the Purgatory police station and was part of the infamous Bobo Del Rey drug bust years ago. As you probably know, Bobo never was caught. My client however, had a lot of information on the case and has made it his life's goal to try and get Bobo Del Rey behind bars."

"But if he was a cop, surely he would have had the means and resources available via the Purgatory police station to do the investigation himself?" I ask as I contemplate everything Wynonna was telling us.

"Oh he would have done it himself, I have no doubt about it. This guy has a relentless spirit about him. But, unfortunately he is stuck in wheelchair."

The words barely leave Wynonna's mouth before Nicole grabs her shoulder. "What was his name? The client you are talking about?" The urgency in her voice makes the pieces come together for me. There was only one paraplegic retired cop we knew that worked on the Del Rey case.

"Yoh, easy with the grip there, Red. We aren't allowed to give out client information."

"It was Nicholas Haught, wasn't it?" Nicole says, making Wynonna whip her head back in surprise. "How the hell do you know that?"

"I know it because he is my father."

The surprise on Wynonna's face gives way to contemplation as she takes in Nicole's features. "Well shit. I can definitely see the resemblance. Are you investigating Bobo for him too then?"

"No, actually it has nothing to do with him. The short version is that Rachel's mom was kidnapped by the people manufacturing the drugs in Purgatory. They manipulated her into stealing chemicals needed to make their drugs by threatening her mother's life via messages sent to that burner phone." Nicole points to the phone, which Rachel holds up towards Wynonna. She takes it and starts scrolling through the messages.

"Those sick assholes. I am sorry that you have been put through that, kid." She says, looking up at Rachel with sympathy.

"Thanks Wynonna. Will… will you help us find my mom?" The young girl asks tentatively.

I watch as Wynonna's face shifts to one of determination and sincerity. "I promise to do everything in my power, kid. I won't stop till we got her safe, okay?"

Rachel nods with a smile, her eyes shining with the light of trust and hope. I watch in the side mirror as Nicole's face morphs into one of respect as she seems to observe my sister in a new light. It makes my heart feel full.

Wynonna turns to look back at Nicole with a serious expression. "How did you guys get involved with Rachel?"

"We met Rachel after she tried to steal veterinary drugs from Joy Farm. She told us everything she had been through and we made it our mission to help her as best we could."

Wynonna nods and then turns back to me, throwing the keys to her truck towards me. I catch them with ease.

"This drop point situation, is it safe? Will you need us as back up?" She asks as she goes to open her door.

Rachel answers for me. "I believe so. They never tried anything in the past. I simply make the drop and leave. I have never even seen or interacted with them before, besides via the phone."

"I don't know about this, Rach. You said the message was different this time. I should come with you guys." Nicole says, her voice full of worry.

Realizing that we were wasting time sitting here, I decide to speed things up. "Guys relax, I am going to get Rachel to the drop point and promise to stay out of sight. You guys go get the cops on this. We will be fine. I will be back to pick you up before you know it."

"Alright. There is a shotgun in the lockbox on the back of the truck just in case shit goes sideways. You still know how to use it?" Wynonna asks and my mind floods with too many unwanted memories surrounding the weapon in question.

"I wish I could forget." I admit softly.

A hand grips mine gently from behind. I catch Nicole's gaze in the mirror, the warmth in her brown eyes instantly washing all the cold gripping my heart away. I release a slow breath. "But yes, I will be able to defend us if needed."

Wynonna gives me a satisfied nod and exits the truck. "Well then, Red. Let's get going so you can tell me and the fuzz all you know about Mr. Bobo." She calls to Nicole as she starts walking in the direction of the police station.

I hear the back door open as Nicole goes to exit the truck, but Rachel stops her departure.

"Here, take the key to my mom and I's apartment. If there is time, perhaps you and Wynonna can check it out? She might find something there that could help." The younger girls says, handing Nicole the keys to her home.

Nicole takes it with a firm nod. Her jaw tight with determination. "Sure thing, Rach" Then she gets out the truck and walks over to my side, indicating for me to roll down the window.

Once the barrier between us is no longer there, she takes my hand gently.

"Waves, do you believe in destiny?" She asks. The gentle timber of her voice fills my ears like liquid honey and her eyes hold mine with a warmth only comparable to that of a hearth fire on an icy winter morning.

The question takes me off guard, but I nod in the affirmative.

"Good. Because this feels a lot like it. And I know without a doubt that you are it for me. So please come back safely, okay?" Her words are full of raw honesty and unfiltered affection.

Before I am able to fully process her wonderful declaration of forever, she leans in and kisses me deeply. The kiss steals my breath and prevents me from forming any coherent thoughts, hence why I don't register the gagging sound Rachel makes at our display.

Once we finally separate, I breathe out a whisper of "I promise. Nothing could keep me from you."

Blinding me with her gorgeous dimpled smile, she gives me a satisfied nod and turns around to head in the direction Wynonna went.

It takes my brain a few seconds to think of anything that is not centered around Nicole Haught. But once I finally do get my senses back, I scoot over to the driver's side and start the engine. Then Rachel and I were off, heading fearlessly towards the belly of the proverbial beast.
