Chapter 9: Ghost Trap in the Smith-Yang House
After seeing Star safely back home, he went back to his house to finish his chemistry homework and have dinner.
After dinner, Danny decided to spend the rest of the night patrolling.
Usually, he would go with Star and their friends, but he knew that the others had their own thing tonight and he also knew that Star always looked forward to having dinner with her dad whenever he managed to find time in his busy schedule.
"Just a routine check around town and then it's back home to get some hopefully uninterrupted sleep for tomorrow..."He thought, as he flew around.
He flew through the night sky, enjoying the cool breeze and surprisingly quiet moment. Though he was still wondering what happened earlier. Specifically what's been going on around he and Star today.
First, they botched their kiss, which never happened before, then the ham missile that flew from the kitchen and hit Star. He could understand how the ham could went ballistic; weird things have happened to food in his house, but that was usually after his parents went mad scientists on them, and he was sure his Dad never used ectoplasm on his favorite ham.
"Dad did say that he didn't put anything ghostly in the fridge today. If that's the case, then why did that ham went ballistic earlier?…" He thought, as he slowed down a little, rubbing his chin.
Though food going ballistic was a daily occurrence, it only happened when his parents were home. But it was just him and Star there. Not to mention their attempt to kiss earlier, as well as all the weird stuff that happened to them when they were at the mall earlier.
As far as the ghost boy knew, he and his girlfriend had never made a mistake in their attempts to lock lips with each other before. In Danny's mind, something like that happening to them would've been a bad omen.
It was the calm before the storm, except the calm wasn't so calm. Not to mention, all the weird stuff happening at the mall also made things even more uneasy now that he thought about it.
It was all too strange to have been a coincidence, especially on the same day.
"Weird... I have no idea what did this. I can't explain it yet, but I just have a bad feeling about what's going to happen next..."He thought, as he kept patrolling.
"If it was a Ghost, I would have sense it, but my Ghost Sense didn't act up…It's not Puck, he's busy with Vlad. And Star would let me know if Colette's "treatment" was over yet..."He thought, as he kept flying.
All he can do is keep Star safe and trust her to do the same for him too. He just hoped that they would figure out who was out to get them before someone got seriously hurt, more specifically, him and Star.
Seeing no ghosts around, he let his guard down. Chalking this night up as another uneventful night, which wasn't really all that common nowadays.
"Looks like all have to expect is ballistic ham and a calm night this time around...hopefully..."He thought, ready to fly home and call Star.
Danny wondered if he should call Star right now, wanting to know that she's alright and hear her beautiful voice before calling it all a night. His musing was interrupted when his cellphone dinged. He pulled it to see what it was and saw that it was a text from Star.
It was a selfie of her blowing a kiss, with the text below it saying 'Miss you, Boo!~' making Danny smile, glad she wasn't upset about earlier.
"That's so you, Starlight..."He thought, as he couldn't help but find her text so super cute.
He was about to reply, before blue wisp escaped from his mouth, alerting him and getting him back in night patrol mode.
Becoming alert, Danny noticed that he was near Elmerton, and spotted something green flying through the air. Seeing something ghostly flying above Elmerton, Danny's eyes narrowed as he decided to go after that ghost.
"But I do know where to take my frustrations out on..."He thought, as he flew in that direction
All the while, he was unaware of bait that was being dangled in front of him. And said bait was laid out by a certain sorceress and her spell book who were lurking nearby, watching him.
Oh man.
Meanwhile
At Star's house
The blonde girl was in the middle of having dinner with her dad.
"I hope you all are enjoying dinner, because I went crazy in the kitchen and there might be a lot in case you want seconds..."Georgia said as she served them.
"Thank you, Georgia. The roast looks delicious..."Johnathan said, looking ready to dig in and not holding back his appetite.
"Yeah, thanks Georgia..."Star said, making Georgia to smile brightly in appreciation.
Even so, she was trying to avoid meat tonight, not feeling like eating anything pork related after what happened earlier.
"I think avoiding anything pork related for a while isn't too unreasonable, right?..."She thought, as she stuck with the roast chicken, potatoes and vegetables.
Even so, her father noticed her hesitancy of eating any of Georgia's pork related dishes and also recalled how she looked when she arrived home earlier.
"So…can you explain how you smelled like ham after you got home from Danny's place?..."Her dad asked after a while.
"If that's something teenagers do nowadays, well, just try not to attract flies..."Her dad said, while Star cringed at being reminded about what happened earlier.
"No, no, it's not a teenager thing…" Star said hurriedly. "Something just happened at Danny's place, you know, the usual Ghost shenanigans..."She said, knowing that her understood what she meant on a surface level with the Fenton's antics.
"Define ghost shenanigans?..."Johnathan asked, raising a brow.
Star shrugged.
"Nothing major, just a little bad mixture of anti-ghost tech being used with the food. No danger..."Star said.
"Oh, like those hotdogs?..."He said, remembering those Franks-entsteins when they last had dinner together.
"Kinda, it's more like a ham just suddenly got a dosage of that Ecto-Dejecto stuff or something and explode and my shirt got stained. That's all..."She explained.
Johnathan and Georgia heard this and took a minute to think about the scenario and both thought that this event seemed classic for the Fentons.
"That makes sense. Jack and Maddie really need to restrain themselves when trying to invent new anti-ghost gadgets with kitchenware..."Johnathan said, as Georgia nodded in complete agreement while eating a couple slices of roast with peas and mashed potatoes drizzled in gravy.
"Yeah, it got crazy…" Star said, though she was confused at what happened earlier as well.
Especially the part with Star and Danny's kiss-miss, which still can't believe actually happened. Since it seemed impossible to her. She could understand the ham hitting her, since that wasn't the weirdest, or grossest, thing that hit her after being involved in Ghost fighting.
However, that wasn't the only weird thing that happened and she knew it.
She remembered how they missed each other's lips and poked each other's eyes. She and Danny kissed hundreds of time already, so there was no way she could miss his lips. Then there was the weird ham incident.
"Something or someone is definitely behind all this, I can feel it. I just can't figure out who yet..."She thought, still wondering how that happened.
She didn't see Danny gasp out blue wisp, so it wasn't a Ghost. And last she heard, Puck was still messing around with Vlad, so she didn't know who could have made the ham go ballistic.
Even so, the blonde girl just went back to eating her dinner and enjoying conversation with her father.
"Well, I'm done, Dad. The dinner was delicious Georgia.…" Star said as Georgia picked up her plate and put it in the sink.
"I might go out for some fresh air…"Star said, as she got up from the table.
"Okay, just be careful. And be sure to take your jacket and your specter deflector.…"He said with a smile as he made that a house rule.
"Will do. Thanks Dad. And dinner was delicious as always, Georgia..."Star said, as she gave her dad a kiss on the cheek before she grabbed her jacket, and some of her gear.
She walked out of her house. She enjoyed the cool, night air as it cleared her thoughts.
"Must be a great night to go for a flight in the sky, makes me wish that I could join my Danny-boo for a flight right now..."She thought, as she enjoyed the fresh air.
Suddenly, she heard her cellphone dinged. She pulled it out and saw that it was a Danny Phantom sighting. Star wouldn't have thought twice about it, but the location got her attention.
"Elmerton?..."She said, reading the post.
Star immediately felt that something was off about this strange coincidence. First the surprise interruption with her date, now a ghost attack in Elmerton where Danny was far away from his team.
Eyes narrowed, she quickly rushed to where Elmerton was.
Not just to help her boyfriend face the ghost if he needs her, but also because that Star didn't trust how convenient it was that there was a ghost in Elmerton on the same day that their date was weirdly interrupted, and after running into a certain someone so soon.
"For HER sake, I'd better just be paranoid right now and nothing else!..."She thought in anger, as she pulled out her phone and called the others.
With Danny
Danny managed to find the ghost, and saw that it was like an origami lion ghost that was roaring and causing some property damage.
It kept flying through the buildings, always speeding up as Danny almost got it. It annoyed Danny, since it feels like the ghost was making fun of him.
"I can out fly a living spaceship, why is this stupid thing making me work for it?..."He muttered, wanting to end this.
Danny then spotted a mirror in an open window bathroom.
"Time for a little trick shot..."The ghost boy thought, getting an idea.
Making sure to time it right, Danny fired a small ghost tay towards the mirror.
The origami lion ghost gave Danny a troll face, thinking he missed, not seeing the ray reflecting from the mirror and towards it, hitting it on the back, causing it to fall towards a rooftop, which Danny quickly pinned to the ground.
"Gotcha!…" Danny said, as he pulled out his thermos.
"Now, get in the thermos, and make some better life choices..."He quipped, ready to end this.
The paper lion ghost growled and struggled from Danny's grip as it was now cornered by the ghost kid.
"Bye Bye paper kitty..."Danny quipped as he sucked the paper origami lion ghost into the thermos.
The origami lion growled and crumpled into misshapen mess as it was sucked inside. Danny clasped it shut, smirking.
"Okay... the Box Ghost took more effort than that thing. Even though this thing looked much more scarier and thankfully doesn't shout "Beware" every 5 seconds..." He said upon landing, placing the thermos on his belt.
As he did, someone hiding took a peek. It was Misty, who set the trap near her house. She waited with her spell book to to cast a spell to her target, though she was confused.
She wondered if something went wrong and she ended up attracting the wrong Danny into her town.
"How is this going to help me?..."Misty asked, seeing only Danny Phantom, and not Danny Fenton. "This is the wrong Danny. MY Danny is way cuter than him…"She said, still not getting it.
"Watch and find out..."The book said, as he did the next part of his plan.
Danny, meanwhile, waited to see if more blue mist was going to escape his mouth. It didn't and this showed him that his work was done this. He was now looking at his phone. He could send Star a text, but she might be tired after today. He checked the time.
"Alright, I guess that's it for this night patrol. I should call it a night..."He said, about to leave.
However, that's when his ghost sense activated. Before Danny knew it, another ghost knocked him into the wall, where a fuse box was located.
"GAHHHHHHHH!..."Danny yelled upon being hit and getting electrocuted and causing a short blackout.
The impact and electric shock forces him back to human form. He groaned as his hair was fizzled up in the air, as he realized what had happened. He sighed as he fixed his hair with his hands.
"So glad no one saw how embarrassing that was..."He said, unaware that he had an audience.
Misty, who was hiding nearby and watching the whole thing, gasped and almost dropped the spell book.
"What?!..." She asks in a low voice. "N-No way!..."Misty said, shocked.
"As you modern teens say it, way..."The book said, as Misty was having trouble believing what her own eyes what she had just witness.
In just a flash of light, she saw the one person she was looking for.
"D-Danny F-Fenton...the guy who I've been in love with for months and who is my fated partner is the ghost superhero Danny Phantom..."Misty exclaimed, before pausing.
"Wait...Danny Fenton...Danny Phantom...Ugh! How did I miss that?..."She asked out loud, feeling stupid right now.
"In hindsight, I suppose it was a rather obvious clue..."The book muttered. "After all, no one could suspect a lanky, nerdy teenager to be a powerful superhero in spandex…"He added.
Misty, however, was still stunned.
She thought back and realized that a lot more of Danny's somewhat odd behavior in the pass now made much more sense. She remembered those times when she saw Danny Fenton, which were a lot, to the times she saw Danny Phantom, and noticed that they were never at the same place at the same time.
Such as how he didn't seem to be traumatized and was calm during the Shi incident or that time that crazy Colette girl got powers. Or the time she sees Star flirting with both Danny Fenton and Danny Phantom, and her being Starlight Spirit too.
"You know...suddenly a lot of things make sense now, with him disappearing whenever Ghosts appear. Not to mention how Danny Fenton is conveniently no where in sight whenever Danny Phantom is around. I can't believe that I never noticed before..."She said, remembering all of those times how Danny would quickly run off and Danny Phantom appeared a second later..
She then panicked, as one very crucial thought crossed her mind.
"WAIT, DOES THAT MEAN THAT MY DANNY IS DEAD?!..."She asked, horrified but her spell book tried to calm her down.
"No, no. Do not worry. I sensed his very unique life essence merged with the essence of the Ghost Zone and I was certain of it when he touched me a few months ago. He is still alive...he just has powers of the spirits, or ghosts as you like to call them. Powers that even I don't quite comprehend. It's fascinating to say the least..."The book explained.
"But...how...how can he be a ghost and human at the same time?! That's impossible, isn't it?!..."Misty asked, still having trouble processing this.
"Says the girl who is training to be a sorceress and currently speaking with her own spell book..."The book snarked.
Misty blinked, as she saw his point.
She tried to calm down and tried to make sense of this new eye opening information that she was slowly coming to accept. She started thinking, and admitted that it fascinated her how Danny gained Ghost powers.
"So...Danny has powers. I wonder how he got them. Did he use some fancy artifact or does he have access to magic too?..."Misty asked, having so many questions right now.
"All good questions, which we will have plenty of time for later. Right now, we have a potion to free him with..."The book said, reminding her of what they need to do for Danny.
Misty then thought about her future with Danny, now knowing that he was just as extraordinary as her and smiled.
"I have magic and Danny has super powers. Wow, I knew that he was special just like me. This has to be a sign that we are both one of a kind and deserve to be with someone who can understand being unique like this. We really are destined to be..."She said, seeing that she and Danny have much more in common than before.
She began daydreaming about how their children with have magic and ghost powers.
"Indeed, now focus..."The book said, snapping her out of it.
"We might only have one shot of this. Now why don't free him from the magic he's under..."The book said, trying to get the young sorceress in training back on track.
Misty was still in a daydream-like state, as she fantasize her future with Danny Fenton/Phantom. Her spell book tried to keep her attention on their mission at hand.
"Misty, you need to remain focus and get him. Remember, we have to save your beloved to assure your future..."He said.
Misty nodded and started focusing, thought she can't help but see how fitting the hazmat suit is to his body.
"How should we get him?..."She asked.
"He might be a bit on edge and hostile after the ghost attack and put up a fight if we approach him without warning. He might be powerful, but he is still human. I recommend the sleeping spell. It's temporary but useful..."The book said, and Misty nodded as she began to prepare for that sleep spell.
Danny, all the while, was keeping his guard up as he checked surroundings for any more surprise ghosts attacks. He saw nothing and was getting tense, wondering where that hit came from.
"Well, it can't be from that stupid paper lion thing since he's already in the thermos..."He said, as he looked around but still didn't sense anything.
After a few moments, nothing appeared. He was on edge right now.
"I better go before something else jumps at me-..."Suddenly, a blast of some kind of blue energy hit him from behind.
"GAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHH!..."Danny yelled as he caught by surprise again as a blue aura enveloped him.
Suddenly, he fell on his knees, his eyelids becoming heavy. He tried to get up, but was struggling to regain consciousness but could feel himself losing.
"W-What?..."He muttered, as he felt sleepy all of a sudden as he fell on the ground.
He soon saw a figure appear but his vision was getting blurry and faded into darkness. He tried lifting himself to the ground, but just fell back.
"Don't worry, Sweetie. Everything with be okay, in fact, it'll be even better before you know it..."The voice said, sounding sweet and ominous at the same time.
Danny didn't have time to register that as he soon lost consciousness and was now asleep, now completely human and at the mercy of whoever had captured him.
"Aw, sleeping like a baby. So adorable!~..."Misty said, as she brushes a bit of his hair from blocking one of his closed eyelids.
"Focus! Time to start the next phase of the plan..."The book said.
Misty nodded as she began to cast another spell. In less than a minute, she, her spell book and Danny were gone.
Most likely somewhere to proceed with the next step of the spell book's plan. She also didn't noticed that Danny's cellphone fell from his pocket. A mistake that she won't realize until much later, but for now, she was just happy that she finally got what she wanted.
Danny was with her now, and there is no Star around.
Meanwhile
At Misty's house
Misty's mother was in the kitchen, finishing the last of the dishes.
She sighed as she thought about her recently rebellious daughter, who has became somewhat reclusive towards her family, as well as rebellious. Mei didn't like it, but she was also worried about how snappish and withdrawn her child was being.
"I think I finally understand why mother always got annoyed when I was young..."She thought, before sighing.
"Maybe I should try and talk with her again. She can't keep giving the cold shoulder forever..."She thought, before drying her hands.
She went upstairs to talk to her daughter and check to see if Misty has calmed down enough to hold a proper conversation.
However, even when she tried to reach out to her, her daughter didn't respond to her, and it got on the middle aged woman's nerves to say the least.
"Misty! Say something!..." Mei ordered.
"I'm busy..."Misty said, not looking at her.
This irritated her mother a lot, and she was starting to loss her patience. She could understand if her daughter was upset, but that wasn't a good enough reason to use that tone towards her. Mei frowned, and began yelling at her.
"Misty Smith Yang! For once in your life, stop studying and look at me when I am talking to you!..." Mei shouted, but got no response.
Mei had enough. However, Laolao walked into the room due to hearing the yelling.
"Is everything alright in here?..."She asked, worried but her daughter shook her head.
"No it's not! My daughter's rebellious phase has caused her to develop a horrible attitude towards her own family! I will not stay quiet and let her continue this unacceptable behavior any longer!..."Mei yelled.
She then turned to her daughter, who still hasn't looked her in the eye since she got here. The mother lost her temper and snapped, and started yelling at her once more.
When "Misty" did not listen, Mei walked towards her and reached for the book.
"I said-..."Her yells ended when her hand went through the book, much her shock.
Laolao, rubbing her eyes, blinked several times. However, the image didn't go away and she was freaking out now.
"Please tell me my eyesight is just getting worse and not that your hand went through the book?..."The old woman asked, looking horrified right now.
"I-It went through the book!..." Mei said as she looked to her daughter in horror.
Mei jumped back, and was shaking now. She was having trouble processing and making sense of all of this.
"M-M-Misty?!..."Mei asked, in a shaky voice right now towards what looked like her daughter.
Her hand slowly went to what she thought was the shoulder of her daughter. Once her hand went through the projection of Misty, the projection seemed to have rippled like water.
"Aiiee-yaaaahh!..." Laolao went, her wide as saucers, while her daughter let out a huge scream too.
Mei moved her hand through the projection until she felt something knock over, causing the fake Misty to disappear.
The two women were stunned silent, eyes wide and jaws dropping as the illusion of Misty was now gone. They looked at each other before at the space where Misty was. Or rather, what they THOUGHT was Misty.
But now...she is gone.
Oh man.
