After returning home, Lilo's big sister, Nani, ran straight to her and hugged her tightly while everyone else watched.
"Thank goodness you're okay!" Nani said.
"Stop it! You're hugging me to death!" Lilo said pushing her sister away.
"Where were you? What happened?" Nani asked before finally noticing the Guardians. "And who are they?"
"Hi. We're the Guardians of the Galaxy." Peter introduced.
"I am Groot."
"Would someone mind telling me what's going on?" Nani asked.
"Well, Captain Gantu came back and kidnapped Jumba." Lilo explained. "Me and Stitch hotwired the spaceship. And we chased him into outer space, which was really cool, but then…"
"Wait, wait, wait." Nani interrupted. "While David and I went to dinner, you went into outer space?"
"I'm not finished." Lilo said. "So, Gantu got away and we ran out of power. Around the same time, we met the Guardians, who were also after Gantu, but lost power. And then we came home. And then you came home and tried to hug me to death. Now, I'm finished."
"You left out some important information," Gamora said, "But that is the gist of it."
"Pleakley, I thought you said I had nothing to worry about." Nani said.
"I was locked in a footlocker." Pleakley said.
"And why are you wearing my favorite T-shirt?" Nani asked. "It's not even your color."
"So what are we gonna do about Jumba?" Lilo asked.
"What am I, an astronaut? He was abducted by aliens, Lilo." Nani then turned to the Guardians. "You guys are space heroes, right? Why can't you go save him?"
"We can't." Peter said. "Our ship short-circuited."
"Well, we can't just forget about Jumba." Lilo said. "He's part of our ohana."
"Part of your what?" Rocket asked.
"Ohana." Lilo interrupted. "It means family. And family means nobody gets left behind."
"Or forgotten." Stitch said.
Rocket's eyes widened hearing those words before looking down.
"Aw. That's so sweet." Mantis commented.
Nani sighed. "Okay. I know this government guy. I'll give him a call and see what he thinks."
"And I'll go make a few calls myself." Pleakley said. He reached a nearby shelf and pulled in a very large, purple book. "I'll be using my trusty Intergalactic Periwinkle Pages. There's only so many phones in the galaxy."
"So let me get this straight." Peter said. "You're just going to go through all these phone numbers one by one until you get some idea where Jumba is?"
"It's not like we have any other ideas." Pleakley said as he began dialing.
Rocket shifted between his crewmates before pulling Lilo and Stitch away. He made sure no one could hear them converse before letting go.
"Why'd you pull us?" Lilo asked.
"Listen, this whole 'calling for help' plan isn't going to do any good." Rocket said. "Your cyclops noodle thinks we don't have any other ideas, but we all know that's not true. Let's just go through that fancy computer and use one of the Experiments to go and save your friend."
"You want to go behind your crew's backs and use the Experiments?" Lilo asked. "I don't know…"
"Do you want to save Jumba or not?" Rocket asked.
"Well… okay." Lilo said.
"Ih." Stitch nodded.
"Great." Rocket said. "Now, Lilo, I'm going to need you to distract the others."
"What? Why me?" Lilo asked.
"I'm going to need some time to figure out how that computer works and select which Experiment can help us." Rocket said. "I can't distract them. They'll know something's up."
"Well, what can I do? I don't know anything about your friends."
"You can start with Quill. You and he are from the same planet after all." Rocket said.
"So he is from Earth?" Lilo asked. "Then what's he doing with…"
"It's a long story." Rocket interrupted. "Look, just keep him busy with whatever humies like. You know, like… old music and stuff."
"Old music?" Lilo asked gaining an idea. "I think I got it."
"Great. You do that while we get that computer." Rocket said. He left for the other room with Stitch beside him.
Once they returned to the chained up chest, Rocket pondered for a moment looking at it.
"Hmm. Pretty low-tech security. I can break it easily if I just…"
He was cut off by Stitch, who moved very close to the box. He fiddles with the chains on each side until he returned to Rocket putting on a proud pose. With a snap of his fingers, the box came apart completely and cleanly.
"Show off." Rocket pouted.
"Whoa now, kiddo." Peter said as Lilo dragged him to another room by his hand. The other Guardians followed. "What's this about?"
"While Nani and Pleakley are calling for help, I thought we'd find some way to kill the time." Lilo said opening the closet. She reached in and pulled out a box full of vinyl CDs. "Got a lot of old music here if you'd like to hear."
"Whoa!" Peter gasped as he knelt down and started going through the CDs. He smiled as he browsed. "Wow. That's a lot of Elvis."
"Yeah. Nani and I loved listening to this with our parents." Lilo said.
"That reminds me." Drax said. "Where are your parental figures? Do they work at night or something?"
Lilo suddenly frowned and looked down. "No. They're… not here anymore."
Peter raised his head from the vinyl collection and looked at Lilo with a sympathetic look. "Oh, man. Sorry to hear that."
"Nice going, Drax." Gamora grumbled.
"What did I do?" Drax asked.
"It's okay." Lilo said. "It was a long time ago. Though, I still miss them."
Peter exhaled a long breath before sitting right down. "I understand. I lost my mom pretty young too."
"Really?" Lilo asked.
Peter nodded sadly. "One day, she started getting sick. And… she didn't get any better."
"Sorry." Lilo apologized.
"It's all right." Peter said trying to cheer himself up. "Just right after I lost her, I was abducted by this group of space pirates who offered to take me in. I didn't have any reason to stay on Earth anymore, so I joined them on their adventures. Along the way, I met Gamora, Drax, Rocket, Groot, and Mantis, and together, we formed the Guardians of the Galaxy. So, you know, not all bad."
Lilo kept her eyes on Peter. She knew he still had his mom lingering in his mind and wanted to cheer him up. So she looked in the vinyl box and pulled a CD out. She then headed took it to the record player and gently placed the needle on it. The music started to play and Elvis' voice started to sing from it.
"Stop, look and listen, baby
That's my philosophy
It's called rubberneckin', baby
Well, that's all right with me
Stop, look and listen, baby
That's my philosophy
It's called rubberneckin', baby
Well, that's all right with me"
Lilo started to dance to the music. Peter smiled and chuckled before getting up. He then danced right next to Lilo. It wasn't long before Mantis and Groot joined in.
"People say I'm wasting time
But they don't really know
I like what I see and I see what I like
It gives me such a glow
First thing in the morning
Last thing at night
I look, stare everywhere
And see everything in sight"
"Come on, you two! Join in!" Lilo invited over to Gamora and Drax.
"Only idiots dance." Drax said bluntly.
"I'm not much of a dancer either." Gamora said.
"Now, Gamora, you know what's not true." Peter said. "Remember when you and I danced to 'Drift Away' by Dobie Gray?"
"I told you never to bring that up again." Gamora said.
"Come on." Lilo said pulling Gamora to the dancing crowd.
Once she was dragged in, Gamora rolled her eyes and began mimicking the others' movements. Although she didn't want to admit it, she did enjoy it. Drax just stood there and stared while the music continued to play.
"Sitting on the back porch
All by myself
Along came Mary Jane
With somebody else
Stop, look and listen, baby
That's my philosophy
It's called rubberneckin', baby
Well, that's all right with me"
Lilo suddenly remembered what Rocket and Stitch was doing and reluctantly broke out of the dance. She looked to check if anyone noticed she stopped and no one did, not even Drax, who just kept on watching. She carefully snuck out of the room with no one the wiser. Though she didn't feel right lying to her new friends, she knew there was no turning back now.
After leaving the Guardians, Lilo headed down to the bathroom where she heard running water. She made it just in time to see Rocket and Stitch standing over a tub full of water.
"How are the others?" Rocket asked.
"They're… distracted." Lilo said. "Are we sure we should be doing this?"
"We've already come this far." Rocket said. "Besides, I found the perfect Experiment we need: Experiment 221. According to the computer, this guy has electrical powers. With this little guy, we can charge up our ships and go after Jacques with guns blazing."
"And save Jumba." Lilo pointed out.
"Huh? Uh, right. That too." Rocket said. "You ready, blue boy."
Stitch nodded. He held up a small, green ball with the number "221" on it and dropped it into the tub. Just then, the bath water began to glow brightly causing everyone to stand back. A yellow orb then floated above the water, and when it burst, the Experiment flew right out.
It was a yellow creature with a white underside. He looked similar to Stitch, but his head was smaller and wider, and he had two long antennae on top. He cackled as sparks of electricity flew from his body.
"You do have a plan to contain him, right?" Lilo asked.
"Of course, I do!" Rocket answered. He reached down and picked up a purple, plastic vase. "Let's just cover him with this, and he won't move!"
Rocket jumped to catch 221, but the electrical Experiment evaded him and disappeared into an outlet. He then flew up to the nearest light and increased its light until it burst. The whole house fell in complete darkness because of that.
When 221 left the broken bathroom light, Rocket found his opportunity. He jumped up and slammed the vase down again. This time, 221 was caught in its opening and was trapped inside when Rocket held it upside down on the floor.
"Haha! We got him!" Rocket cheered as 221 began growling at him.
"Well, that wasn't as bad as I thought." Lilo said.
"Kanjijibe, ziz-ziz." Stitch chuckled.
"Right. Now, let's go charge up the ships before… AAHH!"
Rocket was cut off by the door opening suddenly. Peter, Gamora, Drax, Mantis, and Groot barged in knocking the vase over.
"Is everyone all right?" Peter asked. "There's this blackout and… WHOA!"
This time, it was Peter's turn to get interrupted. Experiment 221 was finally free and flew right by him. He flew to the open window and laughed before disappearing into the forest. Everyone watched as the flashes of lightning lit up farther and farther away.
"What just happened?" Drax asked.
Gamora turned to Rocket and glared at him noticing the guilty look on his face. "Rocket! Did you release one of the Experiments!"
"Uh… Maybe?" Rocket answered nervously.
"But we all voted on leaving them alone." Mantis said.
"Well, I vetoed it." Rocket said. "And everything was going fine until you clowns came in and messed it all up."
"I am Groot."
"For your information, I had him contained AFTER he caused a blackout!" Rocket said.
"I don't believe it." Peter groaned before turning to Lilo and Stitch. "And you two? You helped him?"
Lilo looked down. "Sorry."
"Look, we can all be mad at Rocket later." Gamora said. "Right now, there's an Experiment out there, and it's clearly dangerous. We need to catch it before someone gets hurt."
Peter sighed. "All right, team. Let's go find a wild sparkplug."
