After the lovely conversation with Nardole, Klary and the Doctor moved to the Tardis library. The pair had gotten comfortable on one of the sofas, Klary leaning against the Time Lord. It was interesting, knowing he wasn't very touchy in this incarnation but seemed to reach out to her a lot more than she expected. It had been different from when she had her first trip with him. She wasn't sure whether they had already spoken but she wanted to bring it up.
"What are you thinking so hard about?"
"You."
"Ahh, yes. A constant thought in that brain of yours."
"Has to be. You're always getting into trouble."
"But that's not what you were thinking about."
"Nothing important."
"Course it is. Now, tell me what's bothering you."
Klary huffed. "Fine. Did we ever talk about what happened in Sherwood?"
"Ah, that. Yes. We had that talk. Would rather not return to it."
"That bad?"
"Maybe not for you. Never been slapped that hard. Mind you, I might have deserved it."
"You definitely deserved it," Klary huffed. "You made me feel like shit. But never mind. Since we talked about it, I suppose I can let you off the hook. Can't wait to give you that slap though."
"Yes. You seem to take pleasure in hurting me."
"Oh, hush you. Now to something else. Your eyes…"
"Don't tell me it bothers you?"
"Not in the way you're thinking. It's more like I hate that it happened when I tried not to have it happen."
"I know you did. Don't worry about it."
"It's more of my memory of what is coming. How things are going to play out."
"Ah. Don't worry about that. When's the last time you've eaten? Or slept?"
"I was sleeping until I showed up. Hence the pyjamas."
"Those aren't pyjamas. They're sweats."
"I asked the Tardis to keep my room cold. I sleep better."
"Yes, I know. You don't sleep in shoes."
"Thank the particles. Would have sucked to walk around barefoot. Imagine the cuts and bruises on my cute little feet."
"The horror," he chuckled. "Still haven't said anything about food."
"I had some cake and a drink during a street party."
"Where were you before this?"
"You and Rose, 1953."
"The Wire."
"The Wire. You were pretty upset with me for a bit."
"Of course. My… You lost your face. Was just dumped out on the street. I never want to see you in that sort of situation. Not that it doesn't happen. You get into a bit of trouble on your own."
"Whatever you say, Doctor."
"Let's get some food in you."
"You going to cook? Wait, do you remember how to cook?"
"Have to keep you fed somehow. Up you go."
The pair stood and made their way to the kitchen. As they did, the pain began. Klary stopped. Hands on her head. "Fuck. I thought you said it would get better." The Doctor walked up to her. Wrapped his hands around her in a quick hug. A kiss on her forehead. "Guess no food for me." She gave him a pained smile. "Next time." With that, Klary vanished in a light of gold.
When she landed, Klary found herself in Ten's Tardis. She wasn't sure who was the current companion but she hoped it wasn't Rose. The brunette still wasn't sure what I had done to her but she suppose it was something she would get to eventually. It obviously happened when they first met her, as the blonde's attitude was bad on her second adventure. She just hoped further in the adventures the teenager got over whatever animosity she had.
Instead of going to the console room, the brunette went to the kitchen. She had been pretty hungry when the Doctor mentioned it minutes earlier. Her stomach grumbled at the thought of grabbing something to eat. As she entered, she rummaged in the fridge until she found some mango chunks and some crackers. It wasn't the most filling, but she knew it would at least be enough until she got back from whatever adventure the Doctor had in store.
Food eaten, Klary headed out to the console room. There she found the Doctor and Donna talking. The moment the redhead saw her, she rushed to the young woman. Arms wrapped around her in a hug.
"Look at you! When did you get here?"
Klary shrugged. "About twenty minutes ago."
"Where've you been?"
"Eating. His future self was going to feed me but I was whisked away."
"He doesn't feed you at all."
"I feed her! Not my fault she gets taken away all the time," the Doctor walked over and replaced Donna. "So future me?"
"Yep. What's the plan here?"
"I set the controls on random. Bit of a mystery tour."
"Ah."
"Is that an ah you know where we are?"
"Possibly. So, are we going to head outside?" The Doctor remained silent and grabbed her hand. Soon they were outside. Around them was a land covered in snow.
"Oh, I've got the word. Freezing."
"Snow! Oh, real snow. Proper snow at last. That's more like it. Lovely. What do you think?"
"Bit cold."
"Look at that view."
"Yep. Beautiful, cold view."
"Millions of planets, millions of galaxies, and we're on this one. Molto bene. Bellissimo, says Donna, born in Chiswick. All you've got is a life of work and sleep, and telly and rent and tax and takeaway dinners, all birthdays and Christmases and two weeks holiday a year, and then you end up here. Donna Noble, citizen of the Earth, standing on a different planet. How about that, Donna?" He turned to face her but found her gone.
Klary laughed at his expression. "She's grabbing a coat." He looked down at the brunette. "It is a bit nippy."
"Right, probably doesn't help. You're always freezing."
"Donna?"
The woman came out of the Tardis in a big fur coat with the hood up. In hand was another coat, just not as big. She handed it off to Klary. "Sorry. You were saying?"
"Better?"
"Lovely, thanks." Klary nodded in agreement.
"Comfy?"
"Yep."
"Can you hear anything inside that?"
"Pardon?"
"All right, I was saying, citizen of Earth…"
A rocket flew above them. "Rocket. Blimey, a real proper rocket! Now that's what I call a spaceship. You've got a box, he's got a Ferrari. Come on, let's go see where he's going," Donna started to walk off. The couple followed after, a disgruntled look on both their faces.
"Hey!" Klary pouted. "The Tardis is not just a box. She's way better than a Ferarri too. No disrespecting her."
"You're so in love with it," Donna teased.
"Of course I am. She's my home. Besides, she's amazing." Klary stuck her tongue out at the woman. "Now, let's go explore."
As the trio walked towards where the rocket had come from, enjoying the beautiful landscape that surrounded them, Klary heard music. She squeezed the Doctor's hand as she stopped. "Do you hear that?"
"Donna, take your hood down."
"What?"
"That noise, it's like a song." He looked around. "Over there." The Doctor and Klary led the way to the sound until they came across an Ood that was partially covered in snow.
"What is it?"
"An Ood. He's called an Ood."
"But its face."
"Don't do that, Donna. The Ood is a he. Not an it." As she spoke, she went to help the Doctor. The Time Lord whipped out a stethoscope and tried to find a heart.
"Sorry."
"It's okay," Klary said as she patted the woman's shoulder.
"I don't know where the heart is. I don't know if he's got a heart." He looked at Donna. "Talk to him. Keep him going."
"It's all right. We've got you. Er, what's your name?"
"Designated Ood Delta 50."
Donna took the translator ball from Delta 50's hand. "My name's Donna."
Klary gently took the translator ball from her hand and returned it to the Ood. "You don't have to do that, Donna."
"Sorry. Oh, god. This is the Doctor and Klary. Just what you need, a doctor. Couldn't be better, hey?"
"You've been shot."
"The circle."
"It's okay. I know."
"The circle must be broken."
"Circle what do you mean? Delta 50, what circle? Delta 50? What circle?" Delta 50 sat up with a roar, eyes red. "Get back!" Klary instantly jumped back while the Doctor rushed and pulled Donna away. The moment lasted a second before Delta 50 exhaled and fell back dead.
"He's gone."
Donna approached the dead Ood and knelt down beside him. "Careful."
"There you are, sweetheart." She rubbed his head. "We were too late. What do we do, do we bury him?"
"The snow'll take care of that."
"Who was he? What's an Ood?"
"They're servants of humans in the forty-second century. Mildly telepathic. That was the song. It was his mind calling out."
"I couldn't hear anything? He sang as he was dying."
"His eyes turned red."
"What's that mean?"
"Trouble. Come on. The Ood are harmless. They're completely benign. Except, the last time we met them, there was this force, like a stronger mind, powerful enough to take them over."
"Haven't done that one yet, hun."
"What sort of force?"
"Oh, long story."
"Long walk."
"The Devil, Donna."
"If you're going to take the mickey, I'll just put my hood back on. Besides, didn't you say you haven't done it yet?"
"Doesn't mean I don't know. Just haven't experienced it."
"Must be something different this time, though. Something closer to home. Aha! Civilisation."
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Ood Sphere. And isn't it bracing? Here are your information packs, with vouchers, 3D tickets and a map of the complex. My name's Solana, Head of Marketing. I'm sure we've all spoken on the vidfone. Now, if you'd like to follow me," a woman said. Solana if Klary's memory was correct. The three joined the crowd.
" Sorry, sorry, sorry. Late. Don't mind us. Hello. The guards let us through."
"And you would be?"
"The Doctor, Klary, and Donna Noble."
"Representing the Nole Corporation PLC Limited, Intergalactic," Donna chimed in.
"Must have fallen off my list. My apologies. Won't happen again. Now then, Doctor Noble, Miss Noble, Mrs Noble, if you'd like to come with me."
"Oh, no, no, no, no. We're not married." Klary chuckled.
"We're so not married. They're the ones who are married."
"Of course. And here are your information packs. Vouchers inside. Now if you'd like to come with me, the Executive Suites are nice and warm."
An alarm sounded getting their attention. "Oh, what's that? That sounds like an alarm."
"Oh, it's just a siren for the end of the work shift. Now then, this way. Quick as you can." Solana rushed them inside. The trio gave each other a knowing look as they followed her.
In the presentation area, there were three Ood standing on small platforms while others were carrying drink trays around. Solana walked to the stage and began to address everyone. A presentation started up on the screen behind her as she spoke. "As you can see, the Ood are happy to serve, and we keep them in facilities of the highest standard. Here at the Double O, that's Ood Operations, we like to think of the Ood as our trusted friends." Another slide. "We keep the Ood healthy, safe and educated. We don't just breed the Ood. We make them better. Because at heart, what is an Ood, but a reflection of us? If your Ood is happy, then you'll be happy, too.
"I'd now like to point out a new innovation from Ood Operations. We've introduced a variety package with the Ood translator ball. You can now have the standard setting. How are you today, Ood?"
"I'm perfectly well, thank you."
"Or perhaps after a stressful day, a little for the gentlemen." She turned to the second Ood. "And how are you, Ood?"
"All the better for seeing you," the Ood said in a husky, feminine voice. Klary made a face at that. Of course, the men around them laughed but she found it disgusting. From the look shared with Donna, she knew the redhead felt the same.
"And the comedy classic option. Ood, you dropped something."
The third Ood imitated Homer Simpson. "D'oh!"
"All that for only five additional credits. The details are in your brochures. Now, there's plenty more food and drink, so don't hold back." Solana left the room as everyone continued to laugh and began to mingle. Donna off to grab a bit of food. Once she had, the trio went to her lectern and used the computer to light up the big screen.
"I hate this. It's so, so disgusting."
"I know. We'll put a stop to this." A screen of the operation came up after a bit of fiddling. " Ah, got it. The Ood Sphere, I've been to this solar system before. Years ago. Ages. Close to the planet Sense Sphere. Let's widen out. The year 4126." The screen showed three triangulated areas. "That is the Second Great and Bountiful Human Empire."
"4126? It's 4126? I'm in 4126."
"It's good, isn't it?"
"What's the Earth like now?"
"Bit full. But you seem the Empire stretches out across three galaxies."
"It's weird. I mean, it's brilliant, but. Back home, the papers and the telly, they keep saying we haven't got long to live. Global warming, flooding, all the bees disappearing."
"Yeah. That thing about the bees is odd."
"No, it's not."
"Is that a clue?"
Klary shrugged and gave him a coy smile. Donna gave them a quick smile. "But look at us. We're everywhere. Is that good or bad, though? I mean, are we like explorers? Or more like a virus?"
"Sometimes I wonder." He turned his attention back to Klary. "So what is the clue?"
"Music." He gave her a look but said nothing. She felt as if she gave him a pretty decent one. One that would make things go faster if he managed to put it together.
"What are the red dots?"
"Distribution centres."
"Across three galaxies? Don't the Ood get a say in it?" Before Klary or the Doctor could answer her, Donna approached the first Ood. "Er, sorry, but…" she gently touched the Ood's arm and it turned to look at her. "Hello. Tell me, are you all like this?"
"I do not understand, Miss."
"Why do you say Miss? Do I look single?"
"Back to the point."
"Yeah. What I mean is, are there any free Ood? Are there Ood running wild somewhere, like wildebeest."
"All Ood are born to serve. Otherwise, we would die."
"But you can't have started like that." The Ood twitched. An action Donna ignored but the Doctor and Klary didn't. "Before the humans, what were you like?"
"The circle…"
"What do you mean? What circle?"
"The circle. The circle is-"
"Ladies and gentlemen. All Ood to hospitality stations, please." The Ood walked away.
"I've had enough of the schmoozing. Do you fancy going off the beaten track?" He held up a map of the complex.
"Rough guide to the Ood Sphere? Works for me."
The three left the presentation room and onto a catwalk. Below they watched the Ood march in double file from an upper catwalk. Having seen enough, the trio continued onto the wire mesh fencing. As they crept through, a tannoy went off. They watched as an Ood fell and was whipped to stand.
"Servants? They're slaves."
The Ood was yelled at again. "Last time we met the Ood, I never thought. I never asked."
"Haven't done that one yet."
Donna shot the brunette a tense smile before she replied to the Doctor. "That's not like you."
"We were busy. So busy I couldn't save them. I had to let the Ood die. I reckon I owe them one."
They watched as a man dressed in a suit walked across the area, a man in a lab coat and an Ood behind him. Two guards behind them. "That looks like the boss."
"Let's keep out of his way. Come on."
As they skulked off, nerves coursed through Klary. She was quite sure that Solana had alerted the boss of their deception. She thought to alert the Doctor but chose not to. Things wouldn't be too bad. At least not bad enough for her to worry him more than needed. As they walked past a door, Donna whistled at them.
"Where'd you learn to whistle?"
"West Ham, every Saturday."
He hummed and sonicked the door unlocked. Inside were hundreds of shipping containers. A claw moved across the ceiling and grabbed one of the containers. "Ood export. You see? Lifts up the containers, takes them to the rocket sheds, ready to be flown out all over the three galaxies."
"What do you mean, these containers are full of…"
"You know what, Donna."
Container opened, the three finally saw how they were packaged in. Inside were Ood standing shoulder to shoulder. Not a sound made as they stared at the three. "Oh, it stinks. How many of them do you think there are in each one?"
"Hundreds? More?"
"A great big empire built on slavery."
"It's not so different from your time."
"Oi! I haven't got slaves."
"Who'd you think made your clothes? Besides, your time or not, how do you think everything happened? Indigenous peoples conquered and sent around the world. Thought of as less than due to their skin colour, religious ideologies, and behaviours. You might not own slaves, Donna, but they do exist."
"Is that why you travel around with a human at your side? It's not so you can show them the wonders of the universe. It's so you can take cheap shots?"
The Doctor apologised but Klary glared at the redhead. "No, it's not however, shit like this has happened for centuries. While I understand you are well removed from it, ignorance is not bliss. We're showing you the reality of the world. Whether in your time or another."
She at least had the sense to look disappointed before her thoughts returned to the Ood. "I don't understand. The door is open, why don't you just run away?"
"For what reason?" One of the Ood asked.
"You could be free."
"I do not understand the concept."
"What is it with the Persil ball? I mean, they're not born with it, are they? Why do they have to be all plugged in?"
"Ood, tell me. Does the circle mean anything to you?"
All the translator balls lit up. "The circle must be broken."
"Oh, that is creepy."
"But what is it? What is the circle?"
"The circle must be broken."
"Why?"
"So that we can sing."
An alarm went off. "Oh, that's us. Come on." He grabbed Klary's hand and the three took off.
"Doctor, there's a door," Donna shouted from behind them. The Doctor and Klary turned to see the door open and guards pour out. Donna nowhere to be seen.
"Where've you gone?" They listened to her yell at the guards for a moment before it was silent. "Donna? Where are you?"
Klary pulled him along. "She'll be okay. I promise. We need to keep moving." As she finished speaking, the claw that usually used to move containers became a weapon and chased the pair. They weaved through the containers before they were eventually knocked down, the Doctor twisting so that he was atop Klary. As it descended upon them, it suddenly stopped. Four guards approached them and pulled them out. Marched them back towards the container that held Donna. From inside, they could hear her cursing them and asking the Doctor for help.
"You should probably get her out of there. She has a mean right hook and isn't afraid to use it," Klary warned.
"Unlock it."
The moment she was let out, Donna raced into Klary's arms. "You're safe," the coily-haired brunette cooed.
"Never mind about me. What about them?"
The Ood left the container. Eyes red. They attacked the nearest guard. In mere seconds, it was Ood against guard. The trio took off, racing out of the door as shots were fired. Outside and a safe distance away, they turned to Solana.
"If the people back on Earth knew what was going on here-"
"Oh, don't be stupid," Solana snared. "Of course, they know."
"They know how you treat the Ood?"
"They don't ask. Same thing."
"Solana, the Ood aren't born like this. They can't be. A species born to serve could never evolve in the first place. What does the company do to make them obey?"
"That's nothing to do with me."
"Oh what, because you don't ask?"
"Don't you care? They're living beings!" Klary hissed. "Are you really that- Never mind. You're just human."
The woman shrugged. Uncaring. "That's Doctor Ryder's territory."
"Where is he? What part of the complex? I could help with the red eye. Now show me."
"There," she pointed the spot out on the map. "Beyond the red section."
Klary pulled on the Doctor's hand but the man remained rooted to his spot. "Come with me. You've seen the warehouse."
"Don't waste your time, Doc. She's too in her ways."
He gave the brunette a look. As if to say he had to try. She huffed out a breath and stopped pulling him. "You can't agree with all this. You know this place better than me. You could help."
"They're over here! Guards! They're over here." With a disheartened breath, the three were off again.
"This way." As they arrived at a door, the Doctor looked at the women. "Oh, can you hear it? I didn't need a map. I should have listened."
"I told you. Music."
"You did," he shot her a cheeky smile as he sonicked the door controls. Effectively breaking it and keeping safe even for a moment.
"Hold on. Does that mean we're locked in?"
"Listen. Listen, listen, listen, listen." An ethereal song played in both Klary and the Doctor's minds. "Oh, my head."
"What is it?"
"Can't you hear it? The singing?"
Donna shook her hand. The three looked around them, finding groups of Ood in cages. Ood that turned away from the trio.
"They look different to the others."
"That's because they're natural born Ood, unprocessed, before they're adapted to slavery. Unspoiled. That's their song."
"I can't hear it."
"Do you want to?"
"Yeah."
"Donna, it's not a pleasant song."
"It's the song of captivity."
"Let me hear it."
"Face me." The Doctor placed his hands on her temples. Created a connection. "Open your mind. That's it. Hear it, Donna. Hear the music."
As she listened, tears began to fall down her cheeks. "Take it away."
"Sure?"
"I can't bear it." The Doctor closed the connection. "I'm sorry."
"It's okay."
"But you two can still hear it."
"All the time."
It was silent for a moment before the Doctor sonicked the cage open. As he did, there was banging on the door. "They're breaking in."
"Ah, let them." The Doctor and Klary crouched down before the cowering Ood. Faces gentle as he spoke to them. "What are you holding? Show me. Friend. Doctor, Donna, Klary. Friend. Let me see. Look at me. Let me see. That's it. That's it, go on. Go on." The Ood opened its hands. In the middle was its hindbrain.
"Is that?"
"It's a brain—a hindbrain. The Ood are born with a secondary brain. Like the amygdala in humans, it processes memory and emotions. You get rid of that, you wouldn't be Donna any more. You'd be like an Ood. A processed Ood."
"So the company cuts off their brains?"
"And stitch on the translator. The Ood are telepathic beings."
"Like a lobotomy. I spent all that time looking for you both because I thought it was so wonderful out there. I want to go home."
The door crashed open and they heard a guard call out their position. The Doctor stood, rushed to the cage door and locked them in. "What are you going to do, then? Arrest me? Lock me up? Throw me in a cage? Well, you're too late. Ha!"
The guards stared at the three for a moment before opening the gate and dragging the three out. They were led to an office where they were handcuffed to pipes. With them shackled, the guard left the room and they were in the company of the boss and his Ood.
"Why don't you just come out and say it? FOTO activists."
"If that's what Friends of the Ood are trying to prove, then yes."
"The Ood were nothing without us, just animals roaming around on the ice."
"Spoken like a true colonizer, Klary scowled. "You don't know shit about them. Hell, you can't even hear them."
"They welcomed it. It's not as if they put up a fight."
" You idiot. They're born with their brains in their hands. Don't you see? That makes them peaceful. They've got to be because a creature like that would have to trust anyone it meets."
"Oh, nice one."
"Thank you."
"The system's worked for two hundred years. All we've got is a rogue batch. But the infection is about to be sterilised." He brought his wrist com to his mouth. "Mister Kess. How do we stand?"
At Kess' reply, the Doctor snarled. "You're going to gas them?"
"Kill the livestock. The classic foot and mouth solution from the olden days. Still works."
"I think the Ood might have something to say about that." A wicked smile on her lips as an alarm sounded.
"What the hell?" Haplen walked outside. His faithful Ood behind him.
The tannoy sounded off. "Emergency status. Emergency status. All exits sealed. All Ood declared hostile. Ood distribution centre now-" An explosion went off and the remained of the sentence went unheard.
Back in the office, Haplen grimaced. "Change of plan."
"There are no reports of trouble off-world, sir. It's still contained to the Ood Sphere."
"Then we've got a public duty to stop it before it spreads."
"What's happening?"
"Everything you wanted, Doctor. No doubt there'll be a full police investigation once this place has been sterilised, so I can't risk a bullet to the head. I'll leave you to the mercies of the Ood."
"But Mister Haplen, there's something else, isn't there? Something we haven't seen."
"What do you mean?"
"A creature couldn't survive with a separate forebrain and hindbrain, they'd be at war with themselves. There's got to be something else, a third element, am I right?"
"And again, so clever."
"But it's got to be connected to the red eye. What is it?"
"It won't exist for very much longer. Enjoy your Ood." With that, Haplen, Ryder, and the Ood with them left the trio to their fate.
Alone, the Doctor moved around in an attempt to undo the cuffs. Klary just stood there as her companions struggled.
"Well, do something. Your're the one with all the tricks. You must have met Houdini."
"These are really good handcuffs."
"Oh well, I'm glad of that. I mean, at least we've got quality."
As she finished three Ood entered the office. Immediately, the Doctor yelled out Doctor, Donna, Klary, friends while Donna shouted the circle must be broken. Klary remained silent as the Ood approached. Watched as they figured out what was said through the haze and the yelling. Just as the translator balls were going to touch them, the three stopped and pulled away. The Ood becoming clear-minded for the moment.
"Doctor. Donna. Klary. Friends."
"Yes. That's us. Friends. Oh, yes." The three Ood uncuffed the three. With a quick thanks and a promise from Klary to free them, the three rushed outside. Tried to figure out exactly where the third element was.
"I don't know where it is. I don't know where they've gone."
"What are we looking for?"
"It might be underground. Like some sort of cave, or a cavern, or…" There was another explosion and the trio were knocked down. "All right?" the Doctor asked as they returned to their feet. Instead of a reply, Klary looked through the smoke around them. She tapped the Doctor's arm as she saw Haplen's Ood. They stared at each other for a moment before the Ood turned around and walked off. The three quick to follow.
As they reached the warehouse, the Doctor sonicked the door open. Inside, they stopped and looked over the fence. Below them was a large brain with pylons "The Ood Brain" Now it all makes sense. That's the missing link. The third element, binding them together. Forebrain, hindbrain, and this, the telepathic centre. It's a shared mind, connecting all the Ood in song.
The rattling of chains pulled their attention from the brain to Haplen. "Cargo. I can always go into cargo. I've got the rockets, I've got the sheds. Smaller business. Much more manageable. Without livestock."
"He's mined the area," Ryder said from behind him. "They're gonna kill it."
"You're going to kill it?"
"They found that thing centuries ago beneath the Northern Glacier."
"Those pylons…"
"In a circle. The circle must be broken."
"Damping the telepathic field. Stopping the Ood from connecting for two hundred years."
"And you, Ood Sigma, you brought them here. I expected better."
"My place is at your side, sir."
"Still subservient. Good Ood."
"If that barrier thing's in place, how come the Ood started breaking it?"
"Maybe it's taken centuries to adapt. The subconscious reaching out.?"
"But the process was too slow. It had to be accelerated. You should never give me access to the controls, Mister Halpen. I lowered the barrier to its minimum. Friends Of The Ood, sir. It's taken me ten years to infiltrate the company. And I succeeded."
"Yes. Yes, you did." Haplen shoved Ryder over the railing and into the brain. The man absorbed in seconds.
"You murdered him."
The old man pulled out a gun and pointed it at the three. "Very observant, Ginger. Now, then. Can't say I've ever shot anyone before. Can't say I'm going to like it. But er, it's not exactly a normal day, is it? Still-"
"Would you like a drink, sir?"
"I think hair loss is the least of my problems right now, thanks."Klary smirked at the man's words. Noticed how he had some difficulties speaking.
Sigma stepped in front of them. "Please have a drink, sir."
"If you're going to stand in their way, I'll shoot you too."The Doctor and Klary placed their hands on Sigma's shoulders.
"Please have a drink, sir."
"Have… have you poisoned me?"
"Natural Ood must never kill, sir."
"What is that stuff?"
"Ood graft suspended in a biological compound, sir."
"What the hell does that mean?" Haplen demanded.
Klary burst into laughter. "Oh, dear.""
"Tell me!"
"Funny thing, the subconscious. Takes all sorts of shapes. Came out in the red eye as revenge, came out in the rabid Ood as anger, and then there was patience. All that intelligence and mercy focused on Ood Sigma."
"How's that hair loss going, Haplen?" Klary managed to get out between breaths. Mirth still in her eyes.
The man reached up and rubbed his hair, clumps of what was left coming out. "What have you done?"
"Oh, they've been preparing you for a very long time. And now you're standing next to the Ood Brain, Mister Halpen, can you hear it? Listen."
"What have you- I'm not-" His face went blank. The gun hit the floor. He reached for his head and peeled his skin off. Tentacles came from his mouth.
"They turned him into an Ood?"
"Great, isn't it?" To her, it was a fitting punishment.
"He's an Ood."
"We noticed."
Haplan sneezed and a hindbrain flopped into his hands. Sigma turned to the trio. "He has become Oodkind and we will take care of him."
"It's weird. Being with you. I can't tell what's right and what's wrong anymore."
"It's better that way. People who know for certain tend to be like Mister Haplen." There was a beep and they looked down to see the bombs. "Oh!" The Doctor quickly deactivated the explosives. "That's better." He turned to Sigma. "And now, Sigma, would you allow me the honour?"
"It is yours, Doctor."
"Oh, yes! Stifled for two hundred years, but not any more. The circle is broken. The Ood can sing!" The current around Brain is shut off and a song began to start up. Slow but the inflexion happy.
"I can hear it!"
Thirty minutes later, the three, Sigma an a few other Ood stood by the Tardis. The Time Lord's arm around Klary's waist. During that time, the rockets were recalled and the happening had been reported.
"The message has gone out. That song resonated across the galaxies. Everyone heard it. Everyone knows. The rockets are bringing them back. The Ood are coming home."
"Thank you, Doctor, Donna, Klary. Friends of Oodkind. And what of you now? Will you stay? There is room in the song for you."
"Oh, I've- I've sort of got a song of my own, thanks."
"I think your song must end soon."
"Meaning?"
"Every song must end."
"Yeah. Er, what about you? You still want to go home?
"No. Definitely not."
"Then we'll be off."
"Take this song with you."
"We will."
"Always."
"And know this, Doctor Donna. You will never be forgotten. Our children will sing of the Doctor Donna, and our children's children, and the wind and the ice and the snow will carry your names forever." The trio nodded. Klary waved goodbye and the three were back in the Tardis.
Bunny's daughter: I am so glad you are enjoying it. I hope you liked the last two chapters.
Ezras Writing: Thank you so much. I checked out your profile and added your DW story to my reading profile. I'm excited to see your iteration of girl in the DW universe story.
RainbowUnicorn84738: Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I am trying not to do too many of one Doctor in a row. I love an equal balance with the mixing of Dotors. hope you enjoyed this chapter. I'm having a ton of fun with 12 tbh.
savethemadscientist: First off, thank you soooo very much for your reviews. They made my day. I'm going to go through all of them right now so my response might be a bit long lol. Klary getting to the DW universe is based off my own trip to the museum. When I was there, I literally thought how cool it would be if that happened and yeah, the submarine episode was just kinda out there and I hadn't seen any done super early so I just thought, why not. I was definitely trying to make it known that they are together, even if Klary doesn't know it yet. Her home life wasn't the best. She was not very sought after family-wise and often ignored. I blush every time I write the 'Klary love'. I have big plans for Klary and Jack's relationship. She always liked him and had wished he was in the show more and now she's basically hellbent of making him her big brother. Jack has no say in it at all. Yes, so the Rose/Klary issue is going to be explained in about 15 chapters. I'm sorry. But I will say it does happen after another Rose episode so that's a little clue. I always hated how Abi died so Klary had to save her. And yeah, the Tardis has a few rooms just for them. He did notice. He kinda can't keep his lips or hands to himself and uses the kisses to gauge where she's at in the timeline. Because, why ask? She does have a nickname for him. Two, specifically. In this chapter as you read, she calls him Doc to annoy him. The other nickname will come in when she meets 13. Even though Rose isn't the nicest, she didn't want her to go through getting her face taken. But the Doctor was livid. When I originally planned it out, I was going to put that in, but thought otherwise. Rose saw a very different side of the Doctor. I hope you enjoyed her meeting Donna. I tried to make them cool but also with how Donna is, they clash a bit. As for River, Jack and Mickey, those will fun episodes. I already have those interactions written out and which episodes the first meetings are happening. I do have the next five or six chapters planned so it will be at some point after that. I'm glad you liked her trying to stop the Doctor from going blind. Writing the next few episodes with that is going to be fun.
