Kendall and the guys were stoked. Thanks to Big Time Rush earning their first number-one record in Kerplankistan, Griffin was allowing them to take over his beach house for the day. All four of them had big plans for how to spend their perfect beach day, but Kendall's plans only involved one other person for it to be complete.
And thankfully, Jo was just as excited as he was, just like all the rest of their friends, after making a narrow escape from his mom's eternal mission to protect them all with sunblock they were soon on their way to the beach, ready for sun, sand, and waves for an entire day, together.
"I've packed a beach blanket for our perfect day at the beach, and I know all the guys have their own plans so no one will have any reason to bother us. Just you and me together." Kendall promised Jo as they rode the bus to Griffin's Malibu beach house with all their Palm Woods friends.
"Sounds amazing." Jo smiled in happiness and leaned into Kendall's side, and he snaked his arm over her shoulder to hold her close. "So what does a perfect beach day entail?"
"Well we'll spend plenty of time working on our tans, and of course, we can cool off by swimming in the ocean, which I am super excited for. But we can do whatever you want, have a sand castle contest, play catch with frisbees, just walk around and see what looks fun. Anything you want is my perfect beach day."
"I think your plant sounds amazing already." Jo moved closer and cupped her hand over his ear. "By chance are we going to use our alone time? Maybe sharing a few kisses?"
"Oh, that's definitely in the plan, assuming we don't go speechless when we see each other's swimsuits." Kendall joked.
"Well, certain activities don't require talking," Jo suggested with a coy smile.
"And you are correct, but I guarantee I will be speechless when we go swimming."
"Then maybe I'll have to rescue you and give you mouth-to-mouth," Jo smirked.
"As long as it's you, you can rescue me anytime you think I need it," Kendall promised, and they shared a quick kiss with each other and continued planning out their perfect beach day.
When they made it to the beach, all the teens sprinted from the bus to the sand, just as excited to enjoy their time there doing everything they all wanted to do. Jo and Kendall were running right along with them until they found a spot that looked like a great place to set up their blanket on the warm sand.
Jo said she had to use the restroom quickly and promised that she'd be right back, so Kendall stretched himself out on the blanket. With the warm sun above him, James searching for the perfect wave, Logan the mad scientist searching for buried treasure, and Carlos pumping iron to impress the Jennifers, this beach day was shaping up to be perfect, now all he needed was his beautiful beach babe beside him.
"I can't believe it… you're Kendall Knight! From Big Time Rush!"
Kendall glanced over his shoulder as a girl in a red tank top walked up to him, smiling widely.
"Um yeah, hi," Kendall said slowly, and then she grabbed one of his arms and snaked her other arm around his shoulder as she sat down right next to him, so close that their knees were touching.
"OMG, I am on a beach blanket with Kendall Knight!" She shouted excitedly.
OK, Kendall didn't recognize this girl, but he was getting the same vibe he got from some of his fans on the tour, and it wasn't good. He glanced behind him for a moment, hoping to see Jo coming back soon, but there was no sign of her.
"My name's Sandy, and I am totally your biggest fan! Can we take a picture?"
"Um…sure," Kendall said awkwardly, really wishing Jo would come back soon as Sandy leaned in closer to him so she could snap a whole bunch of photos with her phone. And kept on taking them, and taking them, and taking them. Kendall was always happy to interact with his fans, but he was getting a bad vibe from Sandy.
"Smile! Now serious! Now silly! Now cute!" She just kept on taking more and more pictures, and Kendall did his best to keep up his slightly pained and worried smile, what was taking Jo so long?
"Ok, now last one." Sandy smiled again.
"Last one, great." Kendall nodded, thanking God in his head, and praying that she'd go off and hopefully ambush another one of the guys so he could go find Jo.
"I mean, Carlos, James, and Logan are ok, but when you sing…it's like your singing to me." Sandy swooned over him.
Kendall did his best to avoid the stare she was giving him. "Oh really? Well, I…"
"I can hear Boyfriend in my head right now, it's my favorite song." She started bobbing her head to the beat only she could hear.
"Cool, but, Sandy is it? It's been really cool hanging out but I've got to go back up to the house for some things." Kendall said vaguely.
"OK, Bye Kendall."
"Bye." Kendall waved and stood up to leave, but he barely turned around when Sandy popped up in front of him again, and holding his phone now. He reached for his pocket, and it was empty, how did she get that?
"Call me! I put my number, email, and Scuttlebutter in your phone." She held his phone out to him.
Kendall slowly took his phone back, "OK, I will." Kendall promised, hoping that that would be enough to get her to leave him alone for the rest of the day.
But in response, Sandy hugged him around his shoulders again and kissed his cheek, which Kendall couldn't help but recoil away from. Once she finally let him go, he started running back up to the beach house, he really needed to find Jo.
Once he made it back up to the beach house, before he could do anything, Sandy suddenly appeared in front of him again. How could she possibly beat him up here?
"Kendall I did it!" She said excitedly, "I broke up with my boyfriend so now we can go out!" Then before he could react at all, she jumped onto him, wrapping her arms around his neck and her legs straddling his waist, and began pressing a flurry of kisses to lips and cheeks.
"Augh Sandy! Off! Sandy!" Kendall did his best to yell, as he quickly panicked trying to shake her off it took him a minute, but she finally relented and jumped back down. "Sandy you're a really sweet girl but I already have a girlfriend."
"I know! Me. Check out your Scuttlebutter page. I already updated your status and your photos." Sandy held up her phone which indeed showed his page, filled with pictures of him and Sandy on the beach from a few minutes ago, with the caption My new girlfriend.
"Oh, this is bad," Kendall said to himself, it was going to be another one of those days, wasn't it?
"Kendall!" Jo ran up to him with a worried frown on her face, and held her phone out to him, displaying his Scuttlebutter page. "Who's that on the beach blanket kissing you?"
"Not my new girlfriend!" Kendall was quick to correct her of any misconceptions. "Because you are my girlfriend. Me only like you." He reached out and gripped her hand in his own. "And this is-"
"He loves me now Jo," Sandy said and grabbed Kendall's hand to pull him closer to herself, breaking up his and Jo's handhold. "So bye."
"No that is not at all what's going on." Kendall pulled his hand out of Sandy's grip and stepped back closer to Jo. "Sandy we are not dating. It was nice meeting you, but Jo and I have to get going, so bye!" Kendall pulled Jo along with him and started running through the beach house.
"Kendall, what's going on?" Jo asked.
"I promise I'll explain everything, but first we have to lose her," Kendall said, he knew Griffin's mansion was a maze, and hopefully they could lose her soon.
They were soon able to do, after making a few twists and turns, Kendall chose a door at random which led them into a large bathroom that for some reason had a massive tank of orange juice taking up one wall.
"OK, so explain," Jo demanded.
"So while you were gone, Sandy just came up to me, and at first I thought she was just a fan who wanted some pictures, so I took a few with her, but then she didn't stop and kept talking about how I was her favorite band member and how much she loves me and my music, while still taking a bunch of different pictures, and for some reason, she kissed me which if I knew was going to happen I wouldn't have allowed, at all. Because I only want you kissing me. So then I tried to get away from her, but she followed me up here and apparently stole my phone and posted those pictures, and she declared I'm her new boyfriend, which is not true in the slightest." Kendall said in a panicked rush, but then slowed down and reached out to pull Jo in for a hug. "You are my girlfriend, and you're the one I want to spend today with, not some crazy fangirl. I want someone who knows me and understands me."
"I know, and I know you would never actually do something like that," Jo reassured him. "I was mostly shocked when I got the notification, but I knew you'd have a good explanation."
"I'm sorry though."
"There's no need to be." Jo hugged him tighter for a moment.
"So what do we do now?" Kendall asked because I have no ideas."
"Didn't Gustavo train you to avoid crazy fangirls for your tour?"
"Yes, but that mostly involved staying near Freight Train and our other security guys and just being aware of our surroundings so they can't get close to us. The last thing I expected today was to be ambushed out of nowhere."
"Well, we aren't going to let her ruin our best beach day ever, so let's grab some food, head back down to the blanket, and do whatever we want together. And if she shows up again, we'll both set things straight."
"OK, that sounds like a plan. Just promise you won't leave me alone again." Kendall begged her, looking worried.
"I promise, and I promise I'm not mad at you, it isn't your fault you're so irresistible." Jo stretched up to kiss him on the cheek. "Are you feeling better now?"
"Of course I am, your kisses always make me feel better." Kendall smiled at her. They slowly stepped out of the orange bathroom or whatever it was, and made their way back down to the beach, on the lookout for any sign of Sandy, but hopefully she was still searching the rest of the beach house for them.
Thankfully they made it back to their blanket without incident, and both laid down on their backs beside each other to take in some rays. And as the warm sun soaked into Kendall's skin, along with the comforting sight of Jo lying right next to him was all he needed to calm himself down.
That was until three ATVs rode up with a roar, and three guys jumped off and stalked over to them.
"So you're the dead man who stole my Sandy!" The blond-haired leader shouted at him.
"What? No! That is not at all what's going on here." Kendall hurriedly stood up, and Jo stood up with him. "This all just some big understanding I want nothing-"
And then Sandy joined in, running up to hug Kendall around the shoulders again, and completely ignoring Kendall's shiver of discomfort or Jo's outright glare at her. "It's over Tad. Kendall and I are in love and we're going to make a life together."
"No, we are not!" Kendall shouted.
"Oh, absolutely not." Jo joined him in his denial, but both Tad and Sandy seemed to ignore them.
"This isn't over Hollywood!" Tad shouted and then he and his two buddies jumped back on their ATVs and rode away.
And Kendall was finally able to escape Sandy's grip and backed into Jo who placed a comforting hand on his shoulder, while still glaring daggers at Sandy.
"Look Sandy I don't know what you think is going on between us, or what the deal is with you and Tad, but we are not a couple. Jo and I are."
"Oh, Kendall it was so brave how you fought for me. I know we're meant to be."
"Hello? Did you hear anything he just said?" Jo asked in annoyance.
"You may have him for now Jo, but I know Kendall's heart belongs to me, even if he doesn't realize it yet."
"Yeah, that's not going to happen. My heart belongs to Jo, and that's it." Kendall declared.
"We'll see, won't we? I just know we'll be so happy together Kendall. I have to go use the restroom quickly but then I'll be right back. Don't miss me too much."
"I'll uh try not to," Kendall said awkwardly as Sandy bounced away, and then he grasped Jo's arm and reached around to hold Jo to him tightly. "OK we need to come up with a plan because she's crazy and she obviously has some scheme of her own going on, and I don't want you to get hurt."
"I don't want you to get hurt either, I half thought Tad was going try to run you over or something," Jo whispered back, doing her best to stay calm.
"This was supposed to be the best beach day ever, why do we always have something crazy trying to get between us?"
"I don't know babe, but I do know every time the world throws something at us, we always come out on top, and stronger for it."
"I know, which is why I think we need to come up with a plan."
"Think we can set Sandy up with a llama?" Jo grinned teasingly.
Kendall did manage to grin too, "Yeah, or set Tad up with a mermaid. But I'm going to try being totally blunt with Sandy and tell her one more time there is nothing between us, but if that doesn't work, then we can come up with a Jo and Kendall plan."
"OK, why do you have to be so sweet?"
"What can I say, it's just who I am." Kendall smiled back.
"And that's why you're all mine." Jo leaned in and kissed him sweetly for a moment, and both started discussing potential backup plans.
A few minutes later, Sandy returned to the beach, searching for Kendall and this time Kendall was ready, he knew exactly what to say to her and he was determined that nothing would stop him and she will listen to him.
"Kendall?" Sandy yelled, looking around the beach.
"Sandy!" Kendall ran up behind her. "We need to talk."
"I know," Sandy ran up to him, grabbed his hand, and before he knew what she was doing, slipped something on his hand. "Cause you can't wait to wear our promise rings!" Sandy snapped a picture of both their hands wearing small silver rings.
And at this point, Kendall's prepared speech completely left his head. He tore his hand away from Sandy, "Sandy, I don't want this promise ring." Kendall slipped it off his finger and handed it back to her. "There is nothing between us, and there never will be. I've been trying to be nice all day, but that hasn't been working. Just leave me and Jo alone. I am in love with her, and no one, not you or anyone else is ever going to change that."
"I understand. TAD!" Sandy yelled and Tad and his two buddies were by Sandy's side in an instant. "He hurt my feelings. Beat him up." Sandy ordered.
"First you steal my girlfriend and then you hurt her feelings?" Tad demanded. "It's Tad gets mad time!" And the three of them circled Kendall threateningly.
Kendall wasn't scared though. "Oh yeah, two can play at that game. Guys!" Kendall called out, but none of the guys appeared to back him up, only Jo ran up to stand by his side protectively.
"Woah, look this is all a big misunderstanding, just let us explain." Jo attempted to play peacemaker.
"I don't care Mr. Hollywood hurt Sandy's feelings. So now I have to hurt you!" Tad shouted.
"Come on, there must be a better way to settle this," Kendall asked.
"Why, is Hollywood too chicken to take a on real man?" Tad challenged him.
"Look Tad, I don't want to fight you, how about we all just leave each other alone and pretend none of this ever happened?" Kendall suggested.
"Sandy?" Tad asked.
"Hmm," Sandy thought for a moment, but then staring daggers at both Jo and Kendall, declared. "Beat him up Tad, if I can't have Kendall, no one can."
"Works for me." Tad stepped closer once again, but Jo stood protectively in front of him.
"Or how about this instead of a fight? How about you and Kendall settle this with a race?" Jo motioned to the ATVs beside them. "If Kendall wins, you all have to leave the beach, and if Tad wins, then we and all our friends will leave the beach. Sound like a deal?"
"Hmph. You're going down Hollywood! In one hour!" Tad stomped over to his ATV, pulling Sandy up behind him, and then he and his friends drove away in a cloud of sand.
"Thank you so much, babe." Kendall hugged Jo tightly, "But what was that? In case I never mentioned, I have never driven an ATV before."
"It was the best thing I could think of that would avoid you getting beaten to a pulp by those three idiots."
"Hey, I can handle a little fight, I play hockey remember."
"I'm pretty sure even in hockey when fights happen it isn't usually three-on-one. Am I correct?"
"Ok fine you're correct. But we both know Judo, so I sure hope it would have been two on three, and you'd probably have a better chance of taking them down than I would."
"The number one rule of Judo is that it's only used in self-defense, and the first thing you should always do in a fight is attempt to avoid it. So you've never driven an ATV before, how hard can it be compared to driving a car?"
"I hope you're right." Kendall smiled, "You know Griffin said we couldn't even look at his car collection, but let's go see if he has an ATV we can borrow."
Thankfully they did find an ATV in the garage of Griffin's house, and even better they also found a helmet and racing suit that fit Kendall perfectly. Jo helped him prepare and he took a few practice laps around the beach.
Everyone else finally showed up right before the race was going to begin, and most of them were mad about the deal Jo and Kendall had made until he reminded them that it was more important right now to cheer him on so he can win. Which quickly changed their tune.
Tad soon pulled up and he was ready to go, and Kendall was just as ready.
"I know you've got this in the bag Kendall," Jo whispered in his ear, kissed him on the lips for a moment, and then handed him his helmet. "After you win, we'll finally have some alone time to spend however you want," Jo whispered to him. "I love you."
"I love you too," Kendall replied and Jo walked out of the way to stand with all her other friends, ready to cheer Kendall on.
Tad and Kendall both drove up to the starting line in the sand, with Sandy standing in the middle in front of them. She pulled a red ribbon out of her hair, held it up high, and then dropped it dramatically.
Tad took off like a rocket, but it took Kendall a few seconds to put his ATV in the right gear and take off behind him. Kendall gunned the gas as much as possible and he managed to start tailing Tad right behind him, but Tad kept shifting his position in front of him, making it impossible for Kendall to find an opening to pass him. It was all he could do to keep the engine revved to the max waiting to make his move.
About halfway through the course, Kendall saw his opening. He sped up even more until he was riding side by side with Tad for a few moments, waiting until the next turn to pass him.
But that seemed to be exactly what Tad wanted. He shoved his ATV against Kendall's, forcing him to turn off the course entirely. Kendall saw Tad pulling ahead on the course, he may never catch him now but he refused to give up.
He kept driving forward, he had to swerve around a few palm trees and he drove over a few beach chairs, but then he saw the key to his victory, there was a piece of wood sitting on the ground and sloped at the perfect angle, with the finish line a hundred yards beyond it. Kendall gunned the engine and soon he was flying through the air, right over the top of Tad's head.
He landed with a slight jolt, but he didn't let off the gas until a few seconds later when he finally passed the finish line, and all his friends cheered excitedly. He had just saved their perfect beach day for all of them.
But among the crowd, Sandy ran up to him again. "Kendall, I know that you raced to impress me and I will totally take you back!"
"Sandy, there is nothing between us! Jo is my girlfriend! She is the only one I want sitting next to me on that blanket!"
"Exactly, you're the only one I want next to me too. Because Kendall is my boyfriend." Jo walked up and snaked her arms pointedly around Kendall.
"Clearly this is not working out." Sandy finally admitted after a moment. "Tad's my boyfriend now!" And so she marched back to Tad, pulled him off his ATV, and dragged him away. Kendall didn't care as long as both of them were gone and took all their insanity with him, they could do whatever crazy things they wanted together. But for Jo and Kendall, the first of which was to return to their beach blanket to finally have some alone time.
Kendall stretched himself out with one hand behind his head, and the other arm extended for Jo to use as a pillow right beside him. All he could do is sigh in happiness as it was finally just the two of them, no interruptions, just him and Jo.
He leaned over to lightly kiss the top of Jo's head. "I told you today would be the best beach day ever, we just had to get rid of the usual brand of craziness that always seems to get in our way."
"You're right, and right now I couldn't be happier." Jo smiled up at him. "So what do you have planned now for our perfect beach day?"
"Well, before it gets too dark out, want to go for a swim?"
"I think that sounds like a wonderful idea." Jo sat up but then started teasing him. "But I think you just want to see me in a swimsuit."
"When I have such a beautiful girlfriend, I am happily guilty, and like you're one to talk. Don't think I notice you're staring when me and the guys are playing games in the pool."
"Guilty as charged right back at you." Jo blushed.
"Besides I can't wait to finally swim in the ocean."
"Wait you haven't swum in the ocean before?"
"No way. While Minnesota has 10,000 lakes it doesn't have any oceans, and it's not like there's an ocean in LA either." Kendall reminded her with a grin.
"Aww, should I buy a baby's first birthday frame to put a picture of you in?" Jo teased him.
"If you did, it would instantly be my most prized possession. Now enough talking, let's hit the water." Kendall stood, kicked off his sandals, pulled his shirt over his head, and carefully emptied his pockets.
Jo stood up beside him, and he was secretly proud of the way she was eyeing him as she took her clothes off as well, until she was standing beside him in a purple bikini that took Kendall's breath away. So much so that she had to snap her fingers to break his trance.
"Ready to go Babe?" Jo smirked at him.
"After you." Kendall motioned with a grin.
"How about we go together?" Jo reached out to grab his hand and then they both started running the short distance away to the edge of the surf, and after taking a few large splashing steps they let go of each other and started swimming.
"Ha ha! Woo!" Kendall laughed and shook the water out of his eyes. "This is so much fun."
"You bet it is." Jo swam up closer to him, as they both started treading water to stay near each other. "What do you want to do?"
"We could play a game. I don't really know what though, most of the games I know work better in a pool than in the ocean. I don't think Marco Polo or a race would really work. And while I'm happy we're alone, that means we can't have a chicken fight or anything."
"Then let's just swim together, if it has to be a game we can take turns tagging each other," Jo suggested, and then she reached out and tapped Kendall's shoulder. "Tag you're it!" Then she dove down into the water and started swimming away.
"Oh, it's on now!" Kendall took off after her.
They played tag for a while just chasing each other around until they eventually ended up running on land again, which finally ended with Kendall grabbing Jo around the waist and sitting down with her so she couldn't escape anymore.
"I have you now Babe."
Jo just looked at him, from his still-wet, slightly sandy chest and up to his still-soaked hair and sparkling green eyes. "So, you've caught me, what are you going to do with me now?"
"I may have some ideas…" Kendall grinned, as his head moved closer to hers, and Jo without thinking moved to meet him in the middle, until they were sharing a searing kiss, with their hearts already pumping from swimming and running around, it didn't take too long for things to heat up.
Kendall was reaching down to Jo's bare waist to pull her closer to him, and Jo was doing the same, with her arms circling his chest and her hands running up and down his back. Their touch sent equal sparks between both of them as making out like this, with so little between them was something new, but both were learning they enjoyed it immensely.
Jo moved even closer to Kendall until they were pressed chest to chest, still sitting together, out in the open where anyone could possibly see them, but they didn't care, they were together and that's all that truly mattered to both of them.
But soon, after one last kiss they separated, and Jo turned around so she was sitting with her back leaning against Kendall's torso, both more than content for the moment as they watched the sun slowly start to set over the waves.
"That was…great," Kendall whispered in Jo's ear.
"Yes it was, and well worth the wait," Jo whispered back.
"I'm sorry we didn't have time to do everything we planned to do today with all the craziness." Kendall apologized, again.
"There's no need to apologize, it wasn't your fault. Although you can admit it, you were having the time of your life in that race, didn't you?"
"OK, maybe a little. Although I'm not sure what happened, was I hallucinating that I ran over Gustavo?"
"I'm not sure. We saw a black blur run out into the middle of the track, but both of you just rode through it like it wasn't there, what made you think it was Gustavo of all people?"
"I don't know, I swear I heard his yelling for a moment and then he was gone. But yeah that race was pretty awesome." Kendall admitted with a chuckle.
"You looked very impressive, especially when you took that jump, my heart skipped a beat, and that was after I got to watch you put on your racing suit. Now that's a costume I wouldn't mind seeing again the next time you need a disguise."
"Maybe I'll ask Griffin if I can keep it then for whatever the next secret mission is that we have to complete together."
"You'd have no complaints from me, although I'm enjoying this view even more right now." Jo smiled at him as her eyes scanned up and down Kendall's toned chest and torso.
"Once again, all I can say is ditto." Kendall pulled her close and kissed her once more. "I for one will always enjoy this view, it's just unfortunate the pool is always so full, I prefer this view for my eyes only."
"We'll have to see about that, I'm sure together we can come up with a plan that would be a total success."
"One hundred percent." Kendall agreed. "Want to go get something to eat?"
"What? You always pack the best girly romantic picnics." Jo said in mock surprise.
"While that is true, Griffin promised us his chefs would make more than enough food for all of us, so do you want to go grab something? And then we can come back here, and pick up right where we left off." Kendall said, sliding his hand down the side of Jo's waist.
"When you put it like that, let's go get something to eat." Jo agreed. "And then later…"
"Why do I have a feeling you're reading my mind right now." Kendall grinned at her.
"Because you are the only one for me, and I'm the only one for you, and that's final."
"No arguments from me, I love you, Jo."
"I love you too."
