Happy Spider-Man Day everyone!
Yes, on this day, way, way back in 1960, the Web-Crawler first hit comic stands and entered the imagination of millions if not billions of people for the first time. He's come a long way since than in that first issue: deaths, marriage, Super-villains...
As you know, the webslinger has come a long way in the way of other media: TV shows both animated and cartoon, movies
So, in the spirit of this monumental day (and to hold readers over until tomorrow, when the Wakanda War chapter will be post, FYI, bring tissues and or hankies) , here is a short little chapter that focuses on our hero and planst the seeds for major changes in the future. I hope you enjoy!
With that, read and review, would ye kindly?
Peter suddenly awoke, feeling cold and stiff. There was no ground or sound around him.
What had happened? The last thing he remembered was...
Oh.
Oh god.
The last thing he remembered was him begging Tony and Trini not to let him go; his Spider-Sense going wild and him being powerless to do anything about it. The very last thing he remembered was the sun of Planet Titan, the last thing he heard was Trini's desperate begging for him to hold on.
Then he had disloved into dust and blown away.
His mind turned to those on Titan...and back home:
Trini. May. Tony. Alita. Ned.
His eyes widened and in spite of everything, Peter had a mission: Find those he loved and make sure they were safe. At least, there was the plan; before he could do anything, he found himself without a voice...and if he had one, he'd have been screaming:
Billions, no trillions of animals, people and plants, both from earth and beyond were floating through the air. All as cold, still and yet aware as he was.
Instantly, his will begun to plummet.
Thanos had won.
They had...no HE had failed.
He wanted tears to sting his eyes. He wanted to cry. But nothing came,
'Uncle Ben I'm sorr...' He started, only to be interrupted with:
"This is the only way."
Stiffly, he turned to see Dr. Strange, who was as calm as ever.
"I know you don't believe me. But it is true."
His face suddenly brightened.
"I kind of lied you know. I actually saw two worlds where we win. They both needed us to lose...but one also had your friends there. Only. One. Other. Outcome."
Peter's ache and stiffness vanished. Warmth filled his form. No, not warmth. Hope. Hope, along with no shortage of confusion.
"The multiverse is infinte." Strange cut in, as if reading Peter's mind. "That's why I knew I had to do this."
His face softened.
"Still...something will be lost."
And now Peter was concerned: What the heck did Strange mean?
But the good Doctor smiled at Peter, uttering a single line that explained nothing, but gave hope.
"For all that science...it seems you have some magic in you."
Peter's world then went black again...and the coldness increased. Only now, there was a metallic feel to it...
SMPR
Somewhere in the multiverse, an entity stirred. It sensed something grave; something that its existence depended on...
No, correction. Rather...it sensed omething that would end its existence:
Its host; ALL versions of them...where dying. Along with a great deal of his enemies. That bit alone made its worry lessen; at least if it did go with it's master, it knew the forces they had fought would go with him.
But as it readied to accept non-existence...something peculiar happened.
Most of the versions of its master were without it. And the one it found peculiar was no exception.
But as this one died...its difference was made clear.
While not for long, this version had been exposed to something akin to its own existence.
It was a long shot...but maybe...just maybe...
The entity revealed itself as a humanoid robot with a Spider insigna and wit every ounce it could muster, willed itself to begin racing through the multiverses to get to this version's home universe.
This was deserate, but if it worked things would be better for all.
Read and Review, would ye kindly?
