Far from suspecting the rebellion of the two high school students, Luffy was in fact only a hundred meters from the shore, very far behind the raft. As Sanji had said, Luffy was a very bad swimmer and he had completely lost all his landmarks. And because of huge waves that had permanently hidden it, the boat had overtaken me, without any of its occupants noticing it. The force of the wind combined with that of the waves, made his trip really difficult and several times his head disappeared under the water and he reappeared only a few seconds later, spitting water.

"NAMI!" He shouted, before feeling a wave hit the water.

Finding himself under water, the boy had the impression of being a prisoner of the sea currents. Yet, even underwater, he forced himself to swim longer.

"I have to keep swimming straight." He thought, still trying to follow the trail of the ambulocetus.

Managing to regain the surface again, Luffy took a deep breath. But, almost immediately, he jumps in fear, feeling something choose to touch him. Closing his fists, he was sure to fight the sea monster.

However, what touches him remains inert.

" Eh ? " He wondered.

At that moment, his eyes widened. Despite the waves and the dark sky, he had recognized his friend's body, which was floating on the surface of the ocean. But, his heart skipped a beat when Luffy noticed that Nami's body remained inert and her face was underwater.

" It is not possible ! »

"NAMI!" Luffy shouted, making the attacker look.

However, a pair of jaws stick out of the water and cause Luffy to back away. Piercing the surface, the rest of the Ambulocatus's body had appeared, as it was about to begin its meal. But, upon hearing Luffy arrive, the animal notices his presence and glares at him.

"Is he still there? "

Wondering if Luffy was also easy enough prey to kill, the sea animal swam towards him, legs folded along the body, like a crocodile would have done. Luffy was terrifying. This half-mammal, half-reptile creature could have scared anyone. Luffy even compared it to the last boss of a video game that had to be beaten to save the princess.

But in reality, it was above all a time trial, in which the stake was the life of his friend. Moreover, he himself risked being killed, without having the slightest chance of restarting the game.

" This animal can swim better than me! Nevertheless,… "

When the creature was only a meter away from him, it began to open its imposing jaws filled with teeth resembling those of a leopard seal. Without wasting a moment, Luffy grabbed the front of its muzzle and he sent his hands closing in on what might win him.

He used between his fingers its five pairs of barbels, which resembled a cat's mustache. Remembering the cartoons he had seen, he was certain that pulling a cat's mustache hurt it a lot.

" And the dogs, I train them ." He thought, tugging at the barbels with all his might.

Immediately, the animal growled which betrayed the fact that Luffy made it suffer martyrdom. It immediately began to defend itself by scratching his arms and trying to bite him. In a few seconds, Luffy's arms began to bleed, he had a hard time not letting go and in addition, the monster made him sink under its weight.

It was as easy as stopping a running bull by grabbing it by the horns. However, there was no way Luffy would let go and abandon Nami to the claws of the Ambulocetus.

" I will not lose! Make up your mind! I will never let her die without doing anything! »

His opponent then gave him a blow with the end of his muzzle, which reached him at the level of the nose. A trickle of blood escaped there and Luffy must use all his willpower so as not to put his hands on his face. Instead, the boy gritted his teeth harder, to forget the pain.

Finally, after a superhuman effort, he managed to tear off all its barbels on the left side as well as the skin around them. Blood escaped from the wound of the Ambulocetus and the action of the salt water scorched its chair, now uncovered. It then fled, without asking for its rest.

Seeing that the monster wouldn't be coming back anytime soon, Luffy came back to the surface. Once in the open air, he began to groan in pain, because of the numerous scratches on his arms that the animal had made him. He really felt like the salt was dissolving the insides of his limbs.

Exhaling for a long time, he ends up performing a few breaststroke movements in order to join Nami. The latter had not moved at all during his fight, which frightened her even more.

There is still no reaction from her. Luffy even notices that she was as pale as a corpse.

Suddenly, he turned to the island, which everyone wanted to flee, which was now completely covered with big black clouds. The wind and the rain had doubled in intensity and a clap of thunder was heard in the distance.

" Or maybe we can't leave this island." »

He shook Nami harder, hoping to make her open her eyes.

"Come on, don't be silly! Wake up!" He insisted, feeling tears streaming down his cheeks.

She still wasn't moving.

" Why? What have we done? Why is everyone dying? »

Immediately, he thought of Kaya's corpse, found by the plane. Then he saw Koza being devoured by the Andrewsarchus and disappearing into its jaws. He didn't want to go through that again. He didn't want to let another of his friends die.

Luffy shook her again. But, putting his hand on another part of her body, he felt a hot, sticky liquid that was no sea water.

" What is that ? "

Turning his hand over, he saw that it was completely red.

"Blo…Blood?"

At that moment, he saw a huge wound, in the shape of a bite, which started at the level of Nami's arm and came to the area of his heart.

" That monster wounded her to death." »

" Oye ! Nami ! NAMI ! "

Feeling sunk, Law couldn't synchronize his movements at all to be able to swim. He was ashamed to show it, but he couldn't swim at all. And because of that, he was sinking more underwater.

" Damn it! Is there a stupider death? " He growled, his cheeks puffing up, as he watched the surface move away from him.

Yet as his lungs flared and his vision blurred, Law felt a hand grip his arm. Then a powerful pull pulled him upwards and within seconds the boy felt himself being propelled to the surface.

Finally, feeling his head pierce the surface of the water, the boy began to inhale a huge amount of air, before starting to cough.

"Are you okay?" Shirahoshi questioned her, as she held him against her.

" What... ? " Law wondered.

"She saved me ?"

Suddenly, feeling his chest touched the air hostess's chest, the boy blushed a little, before looking away.

"Worst situation…" He growled, as he was saved by the person he had always considered useless.

" Huh ? "

"DAMN IT!" Sanji roared as he joined them. "They... They betrayed us."

"They... They really left without us?" Shirahoshi asked.

For any answer, she had only to look up, to see the raft moving away. Pudding and Apoo had actually left without them. Finally being level with Law and Shirahoshi, Sanji remained silent, his gaze lowered.

Then, thinking back to Pudding's words, the boy whispered.

"What was I for her?"

Then, the duo in front of him heard the sound of sobbing.

"She said she fell in love with me but...she just wanted to use me to survive, didn't it ?"

Finally, raising his face, he showed tears streaming down his eyes.

"I…I wanted to protect them! So why?"

"Sanji-san...it's not your fault." Shirahoshi assured.

"DON'T SAY!" the boy suddenly roared.

Thinking back to his escape, during the attack on the plane, then to Koza's death, he declared.

"I can't do anything! Even trying, I can't do anything! We don't have a raft anymore! Without specifying that a kind of alligator is prowling around, maybe even closer than us. dreaded! And to top it off, we have no idea what situation Nami and Luffy are in! They might be dead by now! I...All because I don't I haven't been able to be a good leader."

"How were you not a good leader?" Shirahoshi retorted. "Sanji-san...you came up with a great plan to save us all and protected each of us as best you could! You don't need to blame yourself for your companions' mistakes."

Law remained silent, simply waiting for Shirahoshi to bring him back to shore. Standing with his face lowered, Sanji seemed to be thinking. Then, finally, he opened his mouth. Unfortunately, that was when he felt a pair of jaws grip his foot.

Unfortunately for it, he had come across the wrong person. Enraged, Sanji lifted his good leg, before glaring at the monster in anger.

Feeling Sanji's foot hit its skull, the sea animal released him immediately, before swimming away at full speed. And after what Luffy and Sanji had done to it, it was now certain that it was never going to attack humans again.

Being rowed, Apoo had to face the bad climatic conditions. Nevertheless, despite the waves and the wind, he managed to move the raft towards the other island.

"We must hurry to reach the island! The storm is not yet at its peak! If we are trapped inside, we will be finished."

He got no response. Turning around, the boy saw Pudding standing still. Biting her thumb, to the point of breaking her fingernail, Pudding put on an enraged and shocked face, as she seemed to remember the moment Sanji left the raft.

"He abandoned me? Sanji dared to abandon me? He dared when I offered him my virginity? Who does he think he is?"

Hearing this, Apoo preferred to remain silent. He wanted to order her to row with him. But, in truth, he was frightened by the face she wore. The girl behind him had nothing to do with the sweet Pudding he had known.

" That girl...she's scary! As soon as we reach the island, I run away and abandon her without looking back. "

Then, looking ahead to see the huge silhouette of the island, he whispered.

"I will live! No matter what, I will survive."

Meanwhile, breathing hard, Luffy was on all fours on the beach sand. Completely soaked and tired, the boy felt the wind hit him hard, making him shiver. Moreover, his injuries to his arms had made him suffer martyrdom because of the sea water. And since night had begun to fall, the total darkness of the place prevented him from seeing around him.

Yet, ignoring all this, he just stared at Nami's body, which he had managed to bring here. Still inert, the girl hadn't moved the slightest part of her body since Luffy had rescued her. Knowing full well that he couldn't heal her, he cried out.

"TRA-O! WEAKHOSHI! We've got a problem! Nami can't breathe and she's been hurt by that monster."

Nevertheless, he fell silent, noting that there was no one on the beach. Even the andrewsarchus was gone, now that he had no one left to eat.

"They're not here? They've gone to the other island with the raft? So that's just me."

It was the worst situation. Luffy had no medical knowledge. And compared to his behavior, when he fought against the monsters of this island, he was panicking, while he had no idea what to do.

" What do I have to do ? " He wondered, gently laying his friend's body on the sand. "What did Grandpa teach me in this kind of situation?" "

Trying to remember the many excursions he had done with his grandfather and Ace, the boy managed to gather some memories that could be useful to him.

" A CPR, maybe? But how do you deal with her chest injury? Do I have to fix it first? Or do I have to spit out the water in her lungs first? "

But his hope was short-lived when he saw the island closer.

Measuring about twenty meters long, the "island" was in fact only a large rock whose top emerged from the surface. Not the slightest animal or vegetable trace, or even soil. It was just rock.

"A… A rock?" Apoo stammered. "Just a huge rock?" But how? Why ? Where ? "

Feeling like falling to his knees on the raft, the boy tried to keep calm to try to understand what he was seeing.

" We confused this piece of rock with an island? It's impossible ! No one can be so wrong! Unless it's a... mirage! I heard something similar about this! A story of abnormal refraction of light on an object, making it much bigger in our eyes! We can consider this as a mirage. »

He looks again at the rock.

" And if that's what really happened, then does that mean we've come all this way...for this?" Koza would have died... for that? We betrayed Sanji and the others... for this? We made this raft… for this? »

With a cry of rage, he grabbed his oar, before turning around.

"Quick, we have to turn around! With a bit of luck, we can find a current that will bring us back to our starting point and we will manage to reach the shores of the other island, before the storm is at its peak."

However, a pair of hands went around his neck and he felt someone strangle him.

"What does that mean?" Roared Pudding. "You were the one who had the idea to come here! You were the one who claimed that another island was here! All of this... Everything that happens is your fault! If you didn't have the stupid idea to come here on a raft, I'll always be with Sanji-kun."

"Let go of me, silly." Apoo ordered.

Using his long arms, he swung behind him and managed to land a powerful elbow in Pudding's abdomen. Letting out a moan of pain, she pulled back, loosening the grip around her hands.

Taking advantage, Apoo immediately spun around and kicked her hard, causing her to fall over the raft.

"CHECK IT OUT!" He shouted, hearing her fall in the water. "Who do you take me for, you little psychopath?"

Then, seeing her not rise to the surface, he resumed his oar and began to move away from the rock.

"DAMN IT! If I had known, I would have helped Sanji and Law get that crazy girl out and I wouldn't have been in this situation."

Suddenly freezing, he saw the water in front of him begin to move in strange way.

" Huh ? "

And before understanding anything, he saw an enormous mass of water, worthy of a gigantic geyser, rising about twenty meters from the water. The water heaving was so impressive that anyone would have thought a submarine had just come out of the water.

"What the hell is that?" Apoo gasped, taking a step back.

"What was that?" Sanji wanted to know, who had almost made it to shore with Shirahoshi and Law.

Behind him, he had managed to hear the noise the whale made as it rose out of the water before crashing into the raft of his old friends.

Just looking behind him, Law was sure to see a figure leap out of the water, before crashing into the ocean.

"I knew this ocean was as dangerous as this island! Prehistoric sea creatures were greater predators than land ones! If that thing is a whale, I think it's a basilosaurus."

"Basil?" Shirahoshi repeated.

"A cetacean whose size was between eighteen and twenty-one meters long! It was named king of the toothed whales! Despite the fact that it is a whale, it looks more like a kind of snake of obese sea, endowed with fins, a whale's tail and a head resembling that of a crocodile! Falling prey to this monster is like signing your death warrant."

"But then..." Sanji began. " Others ... "

Apoo emerged from the water, still conscious, among the few remnants of the raft that had been able to come to the surface. Luckily, when he saw the basilosaurus leap above him, he had had the reflex to jump into the water and thus avoid certain death, by being crushed.

His only idea to escape his attacker was to swim towards the rock, where he would be safe from his attacks, but far from being saved.

" I'm finished!" This monster will eat me if I stay in the water! And if I manage to reach this piece of stone, it will be to die of hunger or thirst! Either way, I couldn't survive! What to do ? What to do ? »

Suddenly, a phenomenal force lifts him out of the water and propels him several meters high.

"What?" he exclaimed.

Perceiving his presence, the basilosaurus had just rammed him with the top of its skull and sent him as high as possible. The boy, in the air and stunned by the blow he had just received, watched helplessly as the large open jaws of the basilosaurus closed in on him as he descended.

"NO! NOT THAT! SANJI... HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!"

The bottom of the whale's throat was the last chosen Apoo saw before he died.
