Chapter 33: Old flames

Klaus

He knew the instant Bonnie had decided that she was going to save her worthless best friend that he too would accompany her on the journey. He may not have given a spit about Damon Salvatore but the girl with the green eyes . . . he liked her enough to go on this journey with her.

After everything was settled, he had done the honorable thing, walking her out to the car where Lucy had swiftly got in her car, giving them a guise of privacy.

"You good?" He asks once Lucy shut the door. He grabs hold of both her hands needing to touch her as she stands before him. He had never been that kind of bloke that was this affectionate with anyone. Yet with Bonnie, he had recognized that she, like he needed touch to feel, something anything, it brought comfort to people like them and he wanted to be that person for her.

"I am." She says vivid green eyes flickering with amusement and something else, as she looks down at their entwined hands before looking back at him once again. "Are you good?" she asks as he tugs her close to him.

"I don't like you taking on this kind of risk, especially for the likes of him." He growls out.

"What a change a couple of months makes, once upon a time you would've thrown me to the wolves." She says keeping things light.

"Love, I am the only wolf you need to concern yourself with." He says licking his teeth. "As for everything else,"

She looks up at him now, the same look she had given him that night she came over to negotiate for the witches of NOLA. It's the fire in her eyes that makes him twitch in his pants, and his fangs descend. "You know, its not just about him." She says licking her lips as she frees her hand to play with the necklaces that hang around his neck. " I won't be pushed around...not anymore. I will not let anyone control my life, it's mine and mine alone."

He only dimples her way. "Make sure you keep that energy, when in battle and afterwards." He says fondly. Not being able to help himself, he lets his thumb run under her bottom lip.

She grins back at him and soon stands on her tip toes to reach his mouth. Her lips soft as always brush against his. As always he wants more, and seeks out more. His arm loops around her waist bringing her that much closer, when suddenly Lucy honks the horn.

"Get it together people we've got a best friend to save and an assess to kick." Lucy says sticking her head outside the window. "Just think the celebration sex will be even hotter with all the heroics going around."

He watches as Bonnie brightens up her face turning a hint of pink with embarrassment. She turns to leave but he's still got a hold of her hand.

Eyes lock instantly. "One hour and then we take off."

"See you then." She says when he finally lets her go. She turns around ready to hop into the car, but then thinks again and yanks him down to her before a searing kiss ensues. He grips her close, when she pulls away.

"I'll see you in an hour." She says eyes brighter than usual.

He can only watch on till the car is no longer on the compound, a smile playing on his lips. Who would've thought, all it took was Bonnie Bennett barging into his life to make him really feel alive.

When he turns around Marcel is standing against a pillar outside the home.

"So Pops, got anything you want to tell me?" Marcel asks all knowingly and shit.

"Yeah." He says reaching his son. "I've got a plan b, c, and d if things to work out." He says causing Marcel to chuckle. "I'll tell you and your bride all about it."

KM-RM-KM

After everything had been ironed out within his inner circle which included Elijah for this particular mission everyone had dispersed. He had a feeling that this ordeal would only last mere hours. However, everyone around him their doubts. The cause for pause was the very recent and vocal problem the new powerful witch had proved to be. So far, all she did was hide and send others to do her dirty work, but he was aware of her and her power. And the mere fact that she held a grudge on all things Mikaelson and Bennett was enough for him to make a move. After all, it was her that was pulling the strings of this whole ordeal, she wanted to hurt Bonnie, and get to him, well he was going to fight back just as Bonnie would do the same. He was no punk bitch and neither was his girl.

Stuffing a few items into a monogrammed leather tote, he lets out a low growl thinking of that witch yet again. She thought she was smarter then he, smarter than everyone when in fact she was as transparent as ever. Using pathetic Damon to get to Bonnie, was obvious but what was more obvious was the mere fact that she was trying to get to him. He wouldn't stand for it, and planned on making this face to face she, him, and Elijah would no doubt have as painful as possible. Nobody got to use his newfound fondness of Bonnie against him, not his brother, and not some scorned witch. This woman wanted him angry, he'd remind her why he was such a legend.

A knock on the door sounds as he zips up his tote. Turning round he's not surprised that his sister is the person behind the door.

"Shouldn't you be packing, and preparing?" He asks while she pushes past him to her favorite chair, his drawing chair.

"I finished already." Rebekah says pulling her feet under her as she sits back in the chair. Her eyes flit over to a nearby table which has a sketch book slightly ajar. She can only guess what he's been drawing. "Besides I'm very familiar with the plans you've set and as for packing, I've got plenty of clothes here– well that is unless you plan on ripping all your girlfriends clothes off, thus leaving her to wear mine."

He chuckles if only for the mere fact that her nose is wrinkled and she looks just so damn disgusted. "You're clothes are safe." He says slow and deliberate.

Rebekah nods. "Good to know, I'd hate to have to kick your arse over a fleeting fling."

He only hums in response. It was obvious to him as of now that his dear sister had come all the way up here for information. "On with it Bekah, whatever you have to say, just–" Sigh. "Just say it."

Never to hold back Rebekah dives in. "Things between you and the little witch have seemed to have progressed rather quickly." She surmised. "I thought this was all for sport, that you just wanted to shag her." Rebekah says wasting no time at all.

He looks up. "Oh I've shagged her quite properly if you ask me." He says with a grin. "I just got finished shagging her, so..."

Blue eyes similar to his roll, while she proceeds with the conversation. "Its just– you're fighting with Elijah over her and..." She hesitates only momentarily.

His head snaps quick. "Elijah deserved it, if you knew the details of what he did to her."

"That's just it Nik, I've never seen you this devoted so quickly." Rebekah burst.

Standing by the bar, he pours two glasses of whiskey and offers her the other glass. Once settled in a chair he speaks again. "Obviously I didn't plan this."

"Obviously." Rebekah says after taking a sip. "You've always been more a notch on the belt type of guy and endless one night stands." She says softly. "You're far to concerned with planning attacks on your enemies to settle with the same person this long. Yet–"

After a long while he finally speaks again. "She's all I think about." He admits draining his glass after his admission. "It drives me crazy sometimes because all I want is her." He chuckles dryly. "I've been infatuated before, Aurora, Caroline, Cami,— but Bonnie,"

Rebekah sends him a look. "That's because we both know its more than infatuation on both parts your and hers."

He strokes his chin. "She may be more emotionally stunted and fucked up than me." He admits. "That town, those people, her mother and father, even the men she lets get close to her..they all screwed with her head and her heart."

She balks at his words. "That's cause for pause, but at this point nothing can stop this train the two of you are on." Rebekah says knowingly. "Maybe you two can fix the broken inside of each other, piece it back even better." She says sounding more hopeful at this situation than any of his past prospects.

His lips twitch. "Such a romantic."

"Marriage will do that to you dear brother." She says mocking his previous tone, all the while flashing her wedding ring yet again. "Marcel and I have been through it all, good and really bad times, but if the two of us could find our way back to each other than maybe their might be hope for you and her."

He nods but says nothing.

"Honestly though, are you sure you want me on her side? "Rebekah says, suddenly looking worried. "I'm certain that Elijah and I can piss off that witch just as much as the two can and that way you can be with her."

He snaps his head in her direction. "You are the only person I trust with this situation." He pauses and leans forward so that she can see it in his eyes, he means business and the only person capable of taking care of business on his kind of level is Rebekah. "I know you will be as vicious and vocal as I would." He says leaning back in his chair when he feels as if she's gotten the jest of his words. "As for Marcel, I know he will not be far away from you. He'll be making sure everything goes according to plan and if anything happens that looks off even a little bit, he'll get Bonnie out of the situation and you my sister know what to do next."

She taps long manicured fingernails along her glass, all the while his words sink in. "You really trust me, with your Bonnie?" She asks still surprised by his words.

"I do." He says with a finality. "Protect her as if she's one of our own."

Bonnie

The decision to go to North Carolina to save Damon had been a decision I had made, the moment I heard that Enzo had him. It was a no brainier for me, Damon was my best friend, it didn't matter if we were traveling through uncertain waters in our relationship or if we were smooth sailing, I had his back and he had mine, and that was how it always would be. So I would do what any other best friend would do, I'd go in and get my bud with or without help because that was how I rolled.

What I didn't expect was the fact that I had backup in the form of the original hybrid, Lucy, Rebekah and Marcel. In the past I never had a real team as my backup. Damon had always been the one person I knew I could count on as backup, yeah his plans were reckless, but he made the most sense as compared to everyone else who was running around like a chicken with its head off.

Now though, I had other people to depend on, other people who were willing to help. It was shocking to me, the amount of help I had been astonishing to me, it was also touching to see how when the chips were down the Mikaelson family banded together and this time they were doing it for me.

Flashback

After we had presented the plan to everyone, I still felt some sort of nagging feeling inside of me. What had bothered me was the fact that I was letting Klaus jump through the fire when he clearly had obligations which were more important than this thing with Enzo and that witch. He had Hope to think about and I couldn't for the life of me be okay with putting him in the direct line of fire when he had a daughter that needed him.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" I ask Klaus whilst pulling him away from everyone. Although I knew it was pointless because everyone had vampire hearing, well except for Lucy.

For all the patience that Klaus had shown me, I was watching at it was gradually starting to slip. "We've already discussed this and plans have already been made love." Klaus reminds all the while towering over me.

"What about Hope?" I ask all sorts of scenarios running through my mind. "I can't just expect you to go running off on a whim when you have Hope to think about." I say linking my pinky with his. I open my mouth to say something else when he shakes his head.

"Whatever you were about to say out of that pretty little mouth of yours, is out of the question." Klaus says simply. "Hope is spending time with her mother and this whole thing should take a matter of hours." He says refreshed. "It's been so long since I've gotten the chance to sink my teeth into something juicy, I need a good brawl and a satisfying mind fuck to orchestrate."

I shake my head, but still feel a tiny smile on my lips. "So that fight you had with Elijah..."

He grins. "Well, that was a warm up." He places a kiss to my forehead and instantly I feel a sense of calm rush over me. I'm still angry, angry that Enzo thought it was fair to use my trauma against me, that he would stoop as low to go after someone he knew meant the world of me and most importantly that he thought I was not only easily manipulated but thought I would ever want him after all of this. But with Klaus standing close and his arms wrapped around me, I felt safe and secure something that had always been difficult.

Turning to everyone I smile. "Thanks for your help."

Marcel grins back. "You'll soon learn that we stick together no matter what, always. We may get mad, we may bicker and stop talking to each other for long periods of time, but in the end– we always find our way back and we always stick together."

End of flashback

Now as we sat on the Mikaelson jet, more than anything I was just ready to get this all over with. I couldn't continue to live my life worried about what Enzo was going to do if he didn't get what he wanted. The amount of help I had been astonishing to me, it was also touching to see how when the chips were down the Mikaelson family banded together and this time they were doing it for me.

A roar of laughter sounds from the other side of the plane as Lucy, Marcel, Klaus and Rebekah are going over the plan all the while playing cards. I on the other hand had heard enough about the plan. Now I just wanted to get my head into the game and the only way I could do so, was by sitting in my seat with my headphones blaring. My knee bounces up and down and my fingers tap along to the music till I notice that Rebekah has made her way over two flutes of champagne with her.

I lower my headphones and end up taking them off all together, as Rebekah slides next to me.

"I know that look." Rebekah says handing me a drink. "That's the I'm regretting my life choices look." Rebekah says so matter of fact, I cant help but chuckle. I must've been very obvious at this point.

I send her a look. "Girl, you have no idea." I say biting my lip. "I just can't believe I was so wrong about him. I should've gone with my gut instinct of him which was he was liar and hustler one that was so plainly obvious in his hustle that it was laughable." I admit. "And then I let him hustle me." I spit out. "And now he thinks I'm going to let him hustle me again."

Rebekah nods hear head. "Listen, you seem like the type who likes to see the good in people, and that's fine and dandy but some people like to take advantage." She admits. "You just need to recognize those people and cut them loose."

I take a sip of champagne. "That's pretty good advice."

Rebekah furrows her brows. "That's what I do." She says confidently. "As for Lorenzo, he hustled you, now it's your turn to hustle him."

I look over at her and clink glasses.

Lucy

The instant the Mikaelson jet touched the ground Lucy Bennett knew where and who she going to see. They had all talked the plan nearly to death and now it was time to start finally putting action behind everything. The first thing she was going to do, was meet up with Vincent, then she'd proceed to kick his ass for not keeping her in the loop. Everything else would be to make sure that they were able to protect Bonnie while she was out in the elements with her unhinged ex. Now she just needed to make her own tracks.

"You're sure you're ok, with all of this?" She asks not for the first time once she pulled her cousin aside. It occurs to her that cornflower blue eyes continue to watch on a tenacity that is so very telling. If Bonnie wasn't so spread thin she might see what everyone around had noticed.

Bonnie, ever the warrior offers a soft smile. "I'm fine." Bonnie says determined. "And even if I weren't fine, I will be fine." She admits. "Now you– you've been itching to see Vincent, even though you'll never admit it." She says knowingly. "I know what's like," She says knowingly. "He's your best-friend, go to him and help me find mine."

Brown eyes roll. "Everything always seems to go back to Damon."

Bonnie chuckles. "I'm sure he'd love to hear that you said that."

She shakes her head. "Not gonna happen." She deadpans. "Be careful B!"

"Always." Bonnie says resilience settling into her green eyes.

After embracing Bonnie, she sees to the car Klaus has ordered. She sends one more smile in support and solidarity to Bonnie, before heading to the car. She knew her part in this, she had to deal with the other Salvatore brother and help locate Damon. She figured the quicker they get started the quicker this whole thing could be over with.

Just as she was about to get into the car she felt a hand on her shoulder. Rolling her shoulder she quickly got out of his grasp. "You're skating on thin motherphucking ice Elijah, now get your hand off of me now." She says teeth clenched.

"I will." Elijah says in that Elijah way that use to send flutters in her stomach. It still pains her to realize how wrong she had been about him. She had never met a man who was more two faced than Elijah Mikaelson, and now that she knew who he really was, she'd never fall for his charms again. "But first hear me out."

Turning round slow she looks into his brown eyes only feeling disgusted with herself for being so blind to his ways. "Now." She says her fingers starting to charge up.

Elijah gets to the hint because he lets go and takes a decent step back. "Please, Lucy be careful– if anything happened to you–" He looks away from her face probably reading all the hatred she has for him.

"For the last time, I am not your concern." She snips. "All you need to worry about is not fucking up the plan. You do what you need to do and I'll do the same." She says whirling around getting into the car. From the window she watches as Elijah stands in the same place watching the car get smaller and smaller.

It doesn't take nearly as long as she first thought it would, to find Vincent. In fact she's probably more amplified now that she gets to see her friend and help her cousin.

Once she gets to the hotel room, she knocks on the twice before it opens revealing the person she had wanted to see.

"Well, hello pretty lady!" Vincent says standing in the doorway.

"Cut the shit." She says with a grin while they embrace in a brief hug. "Now are you gonna let me in or am I just supposed to dazzle other hotel guest with my beauty.

Vincent only shakes his head and opens the door wider "Always talking shit my dear."

She only shrugs. "Well I am a Bennett." she says rolling in her overnight bag into the hotel room. She hops on the bed as Vincent sits across from her in a chair.

"How's B doing?" Vincent asks easily. That was part of the reason why everyone loved Vincent, he truly cared about everyone and treated them like they were family.

"She's a mess, but" She says pausing. "Klaus, Klaus seems to ease some the pain."

Vincent licks his lips. "Never thought I'd see the day when, Klaus Mikaelson of all people was a good thing for anyone."

She agrees with an easy nod. "He's good for her though, and that's all that matters to me." She admits. "I don't care whom he's pissed off in the last hour, day, month or century," She says looking up to meet his eyes. "As long as he does right by Bon, none of that shit matters to me."

Vincent nods his head. "So he just, dropped everything to help get Damon back."

"He did, and that makes him cool in my book." Pause. "Speaking of which, we need to get a hold of this brother and start this spell. The longer we wait the more intricate it can get."

Vincent looks toward the other door. "Well right now, brother is having a major freak out, so maybe you might want to give him your brand of Bennett to snap him out of it."

SS-SS-SS

Stefan

It was official he was freaking the fuck out! Despite how he felt about his brother, at the end of the day Damon was his family, all that he had and knowing that Enzo had gotten the jump on Damon was starting to drive him crazy.

Phone in hand, he goes over every detail with Caroline and Elena. "Right now, we're relying on Bonnie but she's not here yet. According to Vincent, Bonnie is sending her cousin this way and once she gets here then she and Vincent will try a locator spell."

"The witch you're referring to is Lucy, according to Bonnie, Lucy is pretty powerful." Caroline reminds everyone.

"Good, we need that on our side." Stefan says voice strained.

"How did this even happen?" Elena asks her voice sounding muffled. "I thought they were friends, why would Enzo attack Damon?" Elena says before bursting into tears.

The sound of her crying breaks his heart and only serves to anger him more. "I will make this better Elena, I promise."

"What about Bonnie, she must be a wreck, especially since it's Enzo." Caroline mutters. "Stefan you have to protect her, Enzo is crazy." Caroline chimes in. "We remember the hell he put you through, he can't get to Bonnie." Caroline says desperately.

He bites his tongue not wanting to say anything because he's not sure what will come out of his mouth. Does he blame Bonnie, yes but she's not the only person to blame. This falls on both Bonnie and Damon for this mess. Regardless Enzo will pay.

A sound at the door causes him to stand up. "Listen I will do all that I can." He admit to both women. "You might not hear from me, for a while."

"Wait, what?" Elena says frantic. "We can't just be left alone. You have to contact us, we need to know that you and Damon are safe." Elena breathes into the phone.

Caroline rolls her eyes. "I'm not waiting. If Bonnie needs, me then I'm going to be with her."

He lets out a sigh. "Fine if we can't fix this in five hours then, come down, I'll send you everything you need to know." He says looking at the door. 'I gotta go." He says hanging up.

Walking over the door he swings it open surprised to see a beautiful woman standing before him, she's wearing a zebra print top the draws the eyes down and tight black jeans, lips red, with long hair down the front of her. She resembles an older Bonnie with honey colored eyes, the Bennett trademark of magic coming off of her like a perfume.

"You must be Lucy." He says slowly looking her up and down.

"And you're the brother." She says pushing past him into the room. He meets eyes with Vincent who only holds up his drink.

"I prefer to be called Stefan." He says watching as she stands in the middle of the room.

"And I prefer not to waste time with people who treat my cousin like shit." Lucy says quick as ever. "Now," She says looking around. "Lets not waste any time, I'm here to help find your brother, so lets get this ball on a roll." She says. "And stop looking at my ass." She says reading him like a book. "You will never touch this."

He can feel his face redden. Bennett women.

"Fine, lets do whatever we have to do to find Damon." He says evenly.

She grins. "I'm glad you say that." She says walking close to him.

He has the nerve to take a step back but stands his ground, he is a man after all.

"This is going to hurt." She says honey eyes meeting his. It occurs to him the wicked gleam in her eyes. And what's even wilder is that he finds himself drawn to it, and to her.

"Bring it on, anything for my brother."

She grins again. "Of course, anything for family."

By the end of her sentence he's screaming.

Bonnie

Arriving in our hotel room, I feel a rush of adrenaline kick in. Everything was set, Lucy was with Stefan as she and Vincent were going to try and get a read on where Damon could be. Klaus and Elijah had gone off to draw out the witch and now Rebekah and I were here waiting till the right moment to get a hold of Enzo.

Currently I'm looking at myself in the mirror. I've already changed clothes so that I'm ready. Now I just have to make that one phone call, that starts it all.

Rebekah leans against the door jam, her head tilted slightly to the side as she observes me. "You look nervous, you need to relax." Rebekah says in an effort to be helpful. "This must be a lot for you, especially since you're used to be such a good girl."

I continue to line my eyes with eyeliner while she continues on.

Rebekah clicks her tongue. "I'm just saying, this, this isn't typically your style and yet you're willing to throw away everything you are for a man." Rebekah surmised. "And yet not just any man, you best friends– boyfriend."

My eyes snap up to meet hers. I get the subtle dig but chose not to address it just yet. "Yet again I say you don't know me, not the Bonnie I am now. I may have wavered before but I know what I need to do."

Rebekah holds her hands up. "Fair enough."

"Secondly, Damon may have been the catalyst for me springing into action." I admit after a long and thoughtful pause. I was aware people thought I was just doing this for Damon, but it wasn't just about him, it was about me too. "But he's not the only reason." I continue. "Enzo won't let me go and I won't stay." I admit. "I won't let him ruin my chance at happiness." Rebekah seems pleased with my words and gives me space to let my mind run for a while.

When she appears again, she's got her phone in hand. "Everything is set" Rebekah says startling me out of my musing. "A carnival is going on, so it's perfect for you have Enzo chase you." Rebekah says looking my way. "Vincent is going to text us the location of Damon once they get it, and you- you play your part, you make him beg for it and then you give him what he deserves."

DS-DS-DS

Damon

The moment Celeste had closed the doors he knew that this was the moment that had been in the making for a very long time. He could honestly admit that after a short hiatus and his subsequent return finding out Bonnie and Enzo were together had shocked the shit out of him. He had told himself that the reason it had upset him so much was because he knew Bonnie deserved more than Enzo. He of course was right. Enzo was literally holding it together by a string and the further Bonnie was away from him was the better. Of course, when he had told her that much his bestie had gone on the warpath.

Flashback

"Listen, I know you're mad at me, and want nothing to do with me."

"And yet you're standing on my doorstep?" She says arms crossed in front of her chest as she stands in front of the threshold of grams house looking unimpressed by his presence. "You made it perfectly clear that you wanted nothing to do with me when you ran away and now that you've decided to come back you think we're going to pick up where we left off? No, you and I are not friends and that's the way it always should've been." she says ready to slam the door in his face only for his foot to stop her.

"Listen Bon,"

"Don't call me that, my friends call me Bon and you're just," Pause. "You're just Elena's new boyfriend." She says so snottily that he can't believe it's really Bonnie. That was more the style of Caroline than Bonnie.

That hurt. It hurt almost as much as it hurt seeing her with Enzo, holding hands, grinning at him, watching as that bastard taught her guitar. All of it, made his stomach churn. "Enzo, he's not the right man for you."

"You don't get to make that decision for me. He was here when you weren't and he filled in every bit of loneliness you left behind." She says tilting her head to the side. "Go, run away or don't– I don't really care."

He swallows hard. "You're just saying that to get back at me. But I see you Bonnie Sheila Bennett, I always have even when I pretended I didn't see you- I saw you. Your first instinct with Enzo was spot on, don't let him use you to get to me.

"Go to hell Damon, I'm going back to my boyfriend."

"The boyfriend you are so unhappy with that you can't even lie about it properly."

He's not even surprised when this time she actually slams the door in his face. But it was all good because he got her wheels turning.

End of flashback

"I knew the moment I came back home, that this day would happen, it's inevitable." His says blue eyes flashing over to someone who use to be his friend. "You went after her purposely knowing how I felt about her, knowing how much she meant to me."

Enzo only grins. "What kind of fool would I be, if I did the same thing you did? She was hurt and felt abandon and alone I was their to pick the pieces of the broken heart you broke so easily. I won't apologize for going after what I wanted, you never do, so why should anyone else."

He bites at his lip but nodes his head. "You're right I don't apologize for anything. Just like I won't apologize for loving her. I left to save her from me," He says hitting his chest. "I left to save us I thought that was best, but turns out I should've stayed." Pause. "I should've stayed because I was in love with her and I knew she was falling in love with me."

Enzo slowly claps his hands. "Now you admit it! You admit what I've always known which was that you were in love with her! And you hated that the woman you loved, had fallen in love with me of all people." Enzo says with a grin. "You never fought for Bonnie, you fought for Katherine who was not in the tomb, you fought for Elena who was with your brother, but the one person you could've had– you never fought for her."

Soon as the words are hurled his way, his on him. He'll fight right now, he'll fight till Bonnie makes her way here and this time he's fighting for both of them.

E-D-E-D-E

Enzo

"You know," He says spitting out his teeth after the knock Damon had sent him. "I never wanted it to come down to this." He admits almost sadden by the prospect. "Not with you of all people." He says breathing hard. "When we were stuck in that pit of dispar, you and my feelings for you was the only thing that got me through it." He says resting against the wall. "You were the first person I cared about after Maggie, you were my everything and then you weren't anymore."

Damon looks him up and down a wrinkle on his nose. "What does that have to do with anything going on right now?"

He smiles a toothless grin. "You didn't think I'd ever want to pay you back, pay you back for breaking my heart."

Damon sighs. "We were never together Enzo, we were friends."

"And yet you walked away from me without a backwards glance." He says starting to circle the room. "Then when we met again, I thought you changed but you'll always be the same backstabbing Damon."

The blue eyed vampire who even now, looking disheveled with much longer hair and a beard gives him a grin that still makes his stomach do flip flops. "And yet you're still pining away for me, backstabbing and all."

He only regarded the blue eyed man with a look of barely concealed disgust. "I pined for you a long time, a very long time till you pulled a Damon and bounced leaving the ever so enchanting Bonnie Bennett all by her lonesome. I would've been a fool not to notice her. And I have you to thank, mate!" He says with a grin.

Damon only glares now. "You used the situation with me and Bonnie as your way in, it was your plan all along to get back at me for never returning the feelings you had for me." The blue eyed vampire say as everything starts to make sense to him now. "You used her from the very beginning."

Enzo sits down. "Maybe in the beginning," He admits. "But then I fell so hard in love with her and I'll never love anyone the way that I love her."

"Bullshit!" Damon says launching onto him as he knocks him down, hands gripping his neck hard. "You went after her to get to me, tell me the plan, tell me now."

His head knocks back though he's still laughing. Had this been years ago the closeness would have sent him over the moon, though he can still get a thrill out of it, it's not the same. "I watched with her, I saw how much she meant to you, how much you meant to her and I thought, why can't I have that? You were in love with her, and you ran with your tail between your legs instead of facing it like a fucking man." He says screaming into the face of dangerous blue eyes. "I spent my every waking moment proving to her that I was not you– and that someone could love her the way she needed to be loved...better than you could ever love her."

Disgusted Damon withdrawals from him all together. "You preyed on her vulnerability." He says realizing everything now. "Like you're trying to do now. You use her pain to manipulate her and create a bond that isn't real."

Enzo now stands. "Like you did with Elena." Grin. "We were always one in the same."

"We are nothing alike, you bastard!" Damon screams disgust written all over his face and body movements. But he wonders whom Damon is more disgusted with, him or himself?

He shrugs. "We were enough alike for Bonnie to fall in love with us and it's that love that will bring her back to me."

Damon stands now toe to toe with him. "She's not in love with you, whatever she felt for you before it's gone now, hence the reason she broke up with you." He says poking Enzo in the chest. "Nothing you do will ever get her back, so get use to being loveless because Bonnie doesn't want you and neither do I."

Brown eyes go wide at the words spewed by the one person he thought was his other half for such a long time. "You say that- that she'll never love me, but she'll love you enough to give me another chance and this time I won't let her go."

Damon shakes his head. "She won't, no matter how much she feels for me– she'll never hand herself over to you, and if me staying here is what keeps her far away from you–" He pauses to look down then back up. "Then so be it. You don't get to have her."

Just as he was about to say something the cellphone rang from across the room. For a moment the two men lock eyes before he holds the phone up showing one of the many pictures of Bonnie.

"I guess our girl has made a decision." He says with a wink at his adversary.

Quickly he pulls out a syringe that he jabs into the chest of the vampire who started all of this. If he had just left things alone, then they could all be friends. After all, Damon was dating one of the closes people to Bonnie. The four of them could've been a fierce foursome, but Damon had to be Damon and want it all, and now it came down to this.

Eagerly he pushes the talk button where Bonnie appears on the screen. She's looking beautiful as usual and briefly he wonders about his appearance. His top teeth are knocked out, but that'll be fixed after a blood bag or three. "Gorgeous."

"What happened?" Bonnie says alarm all over her face.

He chuckles. "Just a little spat between friends." He then pans the phone in the direction of Damon. The blue eyed vampire looks out of it, but he's still got a lot of fight in him.

"Damon!" Bonnie screams nearly in hysterics.

"Bon, Bon don't come for me. Live your life and know that I will always lov–"

The words that only proved to anger him more are cut off with a quick snap and then Damon is out if only for a little while.

Fixing his hair he looks back into the phone. "Now that's more like it, it's you and me, the way it was supposed to be."

A tear falls down her face and he can only blame Damon for putting her in this situation. "You want me, you find me."

"You'll stay?" He asks his hands beginning to shake with want, love and adrenaline.

She sucks in a deep breath. "I'll stay."

"For as long as I live?" He asks knowing that right now he has her. "Well be together."

"For as long as you live, we'll be together." She repeats.

"Good, I will make arrangements for Damon and for us." He says breathing hard. "I know you're mad at me right now, and that you're doing all of this to save Damon, but" He pauses. "I know that the love we had is forever and it may take time to nourish it again, but we've got all the time in the world." He offers with a toothless grin.

She looks away from the phone briefly and then turns her eyes back to him. "Find me, and we'll both get what we want."

And with that she hung up, leaving him as breathless as ever.

Bonnie

When I got off the phone I looked over to Rebekah who had been listening the whole time.

"It's been a long time since I've had to deal with anything like that, but clearly that man has lost his mind." Rebekah says drink in hand.

I smooth my dress down. "He thinks his won, which makes him vulnerable." I say walking out to look out the window of the hotel room. "He'll never see it coming till I rip his heart out for good."

Rebekah leans forward but says nothing.

I let out a bitter chuckle thinking about all the people I've let into my life that had let me down.

"I've been controlled before, by Shane, and Silas both using things the knew about me against me, using my weakness for their gain. My friends," Eye roll. "Elena and the Salvatore brothers controlled me for years." I say spinning around. "When I came back from the other side, I promised myself I would never be controlled again, nor would I be a victim." I say looking over at the blond who seems impressed though she never says anything. "Enzo's first mistake was thinking that I'd go down without a fight." I say more to myself than to her. He fails to realize that I'm stronger than what he thinks, I may fall sometimes but I'm all Bennett."

It's those words that seem to get a rise out of her, in fact the original sister is now grinning at me, which is kind of freaking me out but it is what it is. "I think I finally see it."

I furrow my eyebrows. "What?"

"What Klaus sees in you. You're a fighter." Rebekah says draining her drink.

I watch on as Rebekah rises to her feet and joins me at the window. "If you play your cards right, you might just be one of us after all.

The moment she had stepped out of her room at the bed and breakfast, she noticed the change. The buzz around town had been that the Mikaelson brothers had arrived and with that arrival came excitement and anticipation of what was to come. She had known they would show up eventually, Klaus and his desperate need to have someone alongside him on his self made throne had driven the normally self centered Mikaelson to show his weak spots. Due to past encounters she knew that Klaus was very protective of his children, he had gone full on animal to protect Hope when she was born and had done the same when anyone had dared to step to Marcel. Now though, she realized more than ever that Bonnie was a weak spot she could easily dig into.

If she had ever learned anything from the Mikaelson family it was how to hold a grudge, and to exploit one's weakness. That was why she had indulged Lorenzo to give into his wild impulses. It wouldn't end well for him, she knew that– but the vampire had been expendable from the very beginning, he was just the vehicle she wanted to use to get to Bonnie, and to get to Bonnie meant you'd get to Klaus. What she had learned most was that Klaus may be indestructible but the woman he coveted, she was another story.

Klaus

It had taken a lot for him leave Bonnie and Rebekah alone to do what needed to be done with Lorenzo. To say that he was highly strung was an understatement. It was bad enough that he had to let go and let Rebekah take his place but now he had to deal with Elijah whom he still wanted to pummel.

The plan had been to make as much of a splash as possible. Everyone within the supernatural world of the Carolinas had known that the Mikaelson brothers and the entourage that followed them were in town and that was exactly how it was suppose to be. Dressed in their usual getup, the Mikaelson brothers walked into the local supernatural bar knowing that everyone had heard they were in town.

Plopping down at the bar he orders a whiskey neat while Elijah orders the same. He sends a death glare in the direction of his brother who seems almost oblivious to any if not all animosity he has for him.

"I was hoping that given the circumstances you and I could call a truce." Elijah says clearing up the fact that his brother was actually picking up what he was putting down. The only reason he had agreed to even include Elijah on this trip was because he knew that the one thing that had angered the witch the most was seeing the two of them together and right now, he needed that anger and that attention.

He looks over at his brother slowly. Elijah has his hand out all pompous and shit. "Don't delude yourself into thinking that this common goal makes us any closer to better terms. I meant what I said when I said it– after this you can go on a trip that puts you far away from me and what's mine." He snarls.

He sends a glare over to his brother. "What you're trying to do is get back in the good graces of Lucy," Smile. "One, I'm quite sure you'll never find yourself in again." He says wagging his head while Elijah drinks his drink stiffly. Good he was glad to shut his brother up. What they weren't going to do was act like everything was all good, right now they had a common goal, protect Bonnie, which meant it protected Lucy as well, that was it.

"Niklaus, no matter you say," Elijah says sitting his hand down on the bar. "Or what you think, I will always have your back. Not a single soul can tear our bond apart."

If Elijah expected any kind of response, he doesn't get one. Instead another voice sounds, a familiar voice yet not that familiar.

"Well, well, well, if it isn't the Mikaelson brothers, in turmoil no less." She says walking over to them, a sway in her hips, all the while long curly hair is tossed over her back. Red paints her lips while everything else about her is basic. She wears a basic sheer top, with matching bra, black jeans that bore him and of course a leather jacket– which was standard vampire uniform 101.

He doesn't even budge as she takes a seat next to them, a glint in her eyes that tells him what he had already known, this was not Katherine. In fact Katherine would not step foot anywhere near his location because she knew better. This witch liked to play games though and obviously didn't do her homework where the troublemaker was concerned.

He's almost tickled by her futile attempts. She tries so hard but she'll always fail against him.

Elijah for his part, stares at the woman, hearts and shit all but appearing, while he can only chuckle into his drink. The mere sound of his sardonic laughter seems to bring Elijah out of his stupor because he brother soon gets it all the way together.

"Not the time Katerina." Elijah whispers so pathetically, that he can't help but roll his eyes. Elijah had always been a sucker for that face. It's almost as if Elijah had hoped to win the heart of Katherine, then Elena all to make up for Tatia never wanting nor loving him in the first place.

"Are you sure about that Elijah?" Fake Katherine says dragging her words out. "A girl must always make time for fun," She says with a bite of the lip. "Won't your indulge me?"

He watches drink close to his lips enjoying the show. If Elijah wants to be obtuse he won't even try to stop it, no instead he'll watch and wait till that witch decides to pull the rug right underneath his brother. After all, this is a game to her, and for him it keeps her right where he can see her– that way he knew Bonnie was not in harms way.

He and his brother meet eyes briefly as he signals for Elijah to give the girl what she wanted.

"Fine, one dance." Elijah says rising to his feet causing the flustered Katherine look alike to blush.

From his position he watches as the two dance and listens in on the conversation.

"When was the last time a man has held you like this?" Elijah asks, as he presses himself dangerously close to the look alike.

The look alike, closes her eyes, as the two rock back and forth. "It doesn't matter." She says her voice catching. "Just- just hold me a little bit longer."

Elijah then says the words that douse any warmth flowing from the look alike with his next words. "I've missed this Katerina."

From his spot it's like watching one of those soap operas, only this is much better. The pure amount of hatred and ire that shows on Katerina is downright delectable.

It's then that he decides to join in. Like a wolf in the night, he walks with light footsteps till he's pressed behind the Katherine look alike. "I think you've had enough fun." He whispers in her ear as her back goes rigid. He can smell the fear all over her like a perfume that makes his incisors fall down.

He places his hands on her waist causing all playfulness and warmth she had shared with Elijah to disappear till their was nothing but ice.

When she whirls around theirs nothing but hatred in her eyes for him. "You disgust me."

"Likewise sweetheart." He says playing with a lock of her hair. "Now how about a game, you do love games." He says causing her to lick her teeth.

"What kind of game?" She asks stealing a quick glance back at Elijah as if he could save her.

He leaves that to her imagination as he begins to walk to the back of the club where he had a table set up for the three of them for a card game. It was time that they lay all their cards on the table for once and for all.
