Sunday just before lunch as Jade arrives
"hey Andre, how's my baby girl" asks Jade walking into Tori's room
"a little cold but otherwise fine, she just fell asleep, hey did you know that Tori had the flu the day your dad was interrogated, David says that had he not been taking care of Tori after taking your father in for questioning that he wouldn't be in jail" says Andre
"Tori never said anything" says Jade shocked at this revelation
"because she was pretty loopy that day, it was a Friday, the night before her and I had gone to Nozu for sushi, she almost threw up three times in an hour span, I paid for our meal, dropped her back off at her house and spent time with Beck and Robbie for karaoke, she made it to lunch on Friday before Trina took her home and didn't show up till Tuesday the following week, I thought maybe the sushi just hadn't sat well with her because I also didn't feel good that night" says Andre
"so what she doesn't remember that day at all" asks Jade very concerned
"she doesn't remember getting dressed that day or Trina taking her home at lunch, she remembers calling her dad because her throat hurt but doesn't remember him coming home" says Andre
"is that really possible" asks Jade
"Robbie's sister experienced something similar the year before, flu like symptoms and patchy memories, he said the doctor told him that the pain from the fever was too high and that Sarah's body was going into preservation mode, basically saving energy, she'd fall asleep and not know it, which is pretty similar to how Tori acted that day, Tori spaced out quite a lot, she'd still respond if you called her name then asked a question but not if you asked a question then said her name, she was more or less normal on Tuesday, maybe a little tired but definitely not spacing out" says Andre
"how was she over the weekend" asks Jade
"pretty good, we watched a few movies, other than that she mostly slept, I made her food when she was hungry and made sure she showered and before you accuse me of crossing lines I waited outside the bathroom but she did ask me to get her clothes while she showered, she has amazing taste in quality fabric" says Andre
"technically you did cross a line but if she asked you to then it's fine, it actually shows that she's learning to trust you in a more than just a friend way, which tells me where she's headed emotionally, my mom said that it is possible that Tori is predisposed to the idea of polyamory so we shouldn't be surprised if she keeps pushing the line further and further, though her dad might have a problem with it" says Jade
"I don't like the word predisposed, it give the me the feeling that she has no choice in the matter and I don't like that" says Andre as Tori stirs
"ok fair enough, that's just the word my mom used, I guess a better word to use is she's more inclined to polyamory" says Jade as she joins them on the bed
"do you trust Tori's dad now, he put Tori's health first" asks Andre
"trust him……. Not quite, because of him putting Tori first, which isn't what I have a problem with, it was his misguided trust in his co-workers that lead me not to trust him, because of his mistake my dad will spend the next ten years trying to show people he can be trusted and in doing so he won't have time for me, it's my childhood all over again, I missed out on so much because he and my mom were too busy making sure I could live without fear of having to live on the streets, I missed out on birthdays, both mine and my classmates and now I'll never get a chance to tell him I'm dating Tori" says Jade
"You're afraid of the protests aren't you" asks Andre as Tori turns over to snuggle Jade
"of course I am, I don't know if you know this but people happen to hate cop killers as much as they hate people killing cops, to them it doesn't matter that my dad was wrongly convicted, to them all that matters is the fact that he confessed, they don't care that it was a forced confession, they'll kill him if they get a chance Andre, I know that for a fact" says Jade
"you don't know that Jade, they'd hurt you if you got close enough to them to ask those kinds of questions" says Andre
"I've been getting threats since his conviction, telling me to stay in line or the cops family will take my life as revenge for the cops life being taken" says Jade
"ok so that's targeted towards you, not your dad" says Andre
"think about it Andre, if they are willing to make threats on my life they'll absolutely take his life if they get a chance, they threaten me because they know I won't show the police the texts because I don't trust them to believe me" says Jade
"you need to show Mr. Vega those texts Jade, if Tori finds out you're being threatened she won't let either of us ever leave this house" says Andre
"and who says I ever want to leave her side, I don't mind staying here, if you have a problem with it talk to Tori's dad, since it's his late co-workers family doing it I don't trust that he'll do anything about it, cop families tend to stick together" says Jade nuzzling Tori
"you and Tori cuddle, I'll go make lunch, let me see your phone, I want to at least see the threats" says Andre as he gets up
"you are not touching my phone, I don't want you looking at the pictures" says Jade
"if I was going to look at anyone's photos it would be Tori's, which I could have done today or yesterday if I was going to, which I won't do and haven't done, not without permission, I'm not evil Jade, if you don't want me touching your phone then send me the messages so I can show Tori's dad" says Andre
"I don't want him thinking I'm sending them to you" says Jade
"if he can't see them on the actual phone then send them to me word for word, I'll explain to him the context but if he's going to do something about it he will need a physical copy of the texts to prove they weren't tampered with" says Andre
"do you trust him to do something when he sees the texts" asks Jade still quite wary of Tori's father
"I can guarantee he will, but if for some reason he doesn't, I will go over his head to make sure that someone takes action on it because even if your dad was guilty of killing a cop, you being related to him has nothing to do with his actions" says Andre as Jade hands him her phone
"no pictures, just the three text threads named fear one, two and three, I'm trusting you Andre, I do NOT want you or anyone besides Tori looking at those pictures" says Jade as Andre nods and heads to the kitchen
With Andre
"may I ask why you have Jade's phone Andre, that does not seem like a thing she'd allow" says David as he gets up from the couch to help Andre make lunch
"Jade's been getting threats from that dead cops family, telling her to stay in line or they'd take her life as revenge for Jades father taking the cops life" says Andre as David's jaw drops in shock
"and they told me they were in support of the retrial" says David shaking his head in disbelief and anger
"so you'll do something about it right, because if Tori finds out Jade's being threatened, Tori will never let Jade or me leave this house" says Andre showing David the texts and only the texts
"this is vile language, absolutely I'll do something about it, please forward those texts to me, Jade might have a lawsuit on her hands that the police force might just pay for, those texts, if released would absolutely destroy my late co-workers image, he was known to be kind and expecting kindness from his family, no matter the situation, if he were alive today he'd arrest everyone who sent Jade those texts, family or not, you continue making Jade and Tori lunch, I'll be back later, thanks for bringing this to my attention" says David
"no problem, Jade thought you wouldn't do anything, the texts go back to the day her dad was convicted, she has very little trust in the justice system, I'll send you those texts now" says Andre as he screenshots the texts and sends them to David
With David 25 minutes later at his late co-workers home
"Brenda we need to talk" says David
"about what, I told you that we supported the retrial, that we welcomed new evidence" says Brenda Miller
"texts I just received from his daughter say otherwise, either you or your kids are threatening to kill her if she doesn't 'stay in line', that's death threats and I will not tolerate that, her being his daughter has nothing to do with his supposed committing of a crime, she's her own person" says David
"may I see the texts, I know it's not me, I pitied Jadelyn West, her parents were never home, her and my daughter were actually quite close before it happened, her and her brother became quite extreme after my husbands death, one went one way, the other went the other way, just to be clear I'm talking about political extremes" says Brenda as David hands her his phone with the album of screenshots up
"which one do you think is which" asks David
"the more extreme one is my son the slightly less extreme one is his girlfriend, the empty threats is my daughter, she feels betrayed by Jade, emotionally betrayed, Milly was just beginning to explore her sexuality more openly, Jade kissed her, now that she's with your daughter she hates herself for not saying anything" says Brenda
"so her threats are toothless" asks David
"her threats yes, my sons and his girlfriends threats, they're more of a danger than anything ever seen, I'd have you arrest them a lot earlier if I thought they'd actually made threats to Jade, his girlfriend is a very bad influence on him, she's been arrested for theft several times and she encourages him to steal" says Brenda
"I can't arrest them, at least not yet, I need proof that their threats are more than just words because Jade is terrified, may I talk to Selena please" says David
"you can try but she might not answer your questions, she's been increasingly jumpy since being kicked out of Pacific Coast Academy last week and she refuses to talk about anything when her brother is near, which he is today, he's been sick with the flu for two days now, anyway I'll call her, Selena there's a police officer here to talk to you" says Brenda as a yelp can be heard from Selena's room
"you don't think her brother raped her do you" asks David
"it has crossed my mind a few times but I still hold hope that he isn't THAT evil" says Brenda as Selena walks down the stairs holding her arms out, expecting to be cuffed
"just arrest me, I know this is about the texts to Jade, I expected to get a visit from the police a lot sooner" says Selena, avoiding eye contact from either adult
"can I ask you questions here or would you like me to take you to the police station, my questions are about your brother" says David
"I'd rather not answer any questions, I value my life thank you, just take me in" says Selena as David gets the point and cuffs her and takes her to his cop car
"did your brother rape you" asks David
"not safe to answer your question here, he's watching" says Selena subtly motioning to the only window on the front of the house
"fair enough, I'll take you to the station so he doesn't know what's going on" says David as he starts the car and heads to the police station
20 minutes later at the police station in an interrogation room
"so about your brother" says David
"he didn't rape me but he gave Logan Reese permission to, in return Logan lets him date his cousin" says Selena eyeing all the reflective surfaces nervously
"nobody's listening in, we have a victim protocol here, our conversation is being recorded in case there is evidence of a crime but nobody is actively listening, we will send someone to talk to or arrest Logan if you want us to, however I'm more worried about the texts you and your brother were sending Jade, you have her quite terrified, she wouldn't tell me, I had to find out through her friend" says David
"my texts weren't meant to scare her, not at first, I didn't even know that my brother and his girlfriend were texting her threats until he took my phone and saw the texts, he made me threaten her, the only part that I wanted to send to her was 'stay in line', she would know what that meant but he made me add 'or I'll kill you', he had a knife, he said that if I didn't text Jade what he wanted me to text that he'd maim me and shave my head and maybe even kill his girlfriend and frame me for it if I didn't, I didn't have a choice" says Selena
"was Jade at PCA when Logan raped you" asks David
"no, it was just as school was ending last summer, Jade announced that she wouldn't be returning to PCA, she packed up and left the next day, that was when Logan raped me, Jade was the only person stopping him, he raped Nicole after Christmas last year, her and Dana moved to Canada within days of that, Dana and Jade were in a defensive alliance, protecting girls like me from people like Logan and my brother, with Dana gone there was little Jade could do to protect more than a handful of people, Jade's more bark than bite but people like Logan didn't know that" says Selena
"is there anyone I can talk to that you want to send a message to before I send you to Jade's house, her mom's a therapist and a safe person to talk to, the message can be to anyone about anything" says David
"why not, it's not like she'll talk to me anymore anyway, Zoey Brooks, tell her I like her, like really like her" says Selena
"are you sure that's the message you want to give her" asks David
"she's a complete bookworm, she won't risk discipline from Dean Rivers to talk to me face to face about it so yeah I'm sure" says Selena
"ok I have to kniw something, who did Jade express feelings for that made her decide to leave PCA" asks David
"Chase Matthews, he didn't take her seriously, he thought it was a joke or prank from Zoey or something to get back at him for being so obviously in love with her, now take me to safety and get me my clothes from my house so my brother doesn't steal them" says Selena
"does your brother do that, does he steal your clothes" asks David
"after dad died John started looking for a new role model, he settled on Logan, without dad's guidance John can be convinced of anything, Logan got him to believe that us girls are but property and that we don't own anything and that everything we have is their property, he doesn't see it as stealing because he thinks my clothes are his property, he thinks nothing is mine and everything I have is his" says Selena
"ok I'll send someone to get your stuff, any special requirements to get around your brother" says David preparing to text an officer the task and address
"it has to be a man, he won't let a woman, not even our mom take my stuff out of there, my brother isn't the only one Logan's brainwashed into believing us girls are property, six other boys handed their sisters to Logan and his friends as sex toys, Chase and Michael are the only ones who said no to the offer for a free girl, not even when he offered them Zoey, which is saying something, I won't go back home until my brother is in prison, I miss Zoey so much" says Selena as David sends the text and gets an immediate response from the chief
"ok so let's get going, an investigation is being opened into your brother and Logan and anyone entangled in his crimes, you will remain handcuffed until inside Jade's house just in case a reporter asks questions, I don't want your brother coming after you for snitching on him, any additional information you can provide me will help, for example why you were kicked out of PCA, your grades were in the top three in the whole campus" says David
"I said that 'not all cops are good cops', Dean Rivers didn't like that because he employs retired or former police officers as security and all I know is one of them is helping Logan, though I don't know if Dean Rivers is involved or maybe he didn't like the implication that he might have hired criminals, I don't know, I'm a bookworm not a patterns person" says Selena as they get up and head to David's car
"thank you for trusting me, I know that isn't easy for you" says David as they near the front doors of the police department
"my dad always said you were a good cop and a good human, though this is a terrible way to find out I guess, though he did say that if anything happened to him that if I needed help to ask you for help" says Selena
"given the situation would you have been able to come to me without your brother knowing" asks David as they get into his car once again
"maybe before he was sent home from PCA with the flu but not since he's been home, he had Logan hijack my phone, he knows where I am, thankfully there's no audio feed, just location, as far as he knows you interrogated me and the police station was full and you had to take me with you to talk to a witness for whatever you 'arrested' me for, he's not that smart, that's why Logan was able to make him believe what he now believes, I left my room in perfect condition" says Selena
"they're approaching your house, if your room isn't in perfect condition and all your stuff isn't in your room how should they retrieve it" asks David as they stop outside the West home
"if anything is missing its because he took it, anytime I leave the house and he's home he goes into my room and steals stuff, lately it's been my clothes, last month it was my laptop because he broke his, before that it was my bedsheets, blankets and pillows… wait am I actually getting therapy or is this just a ruse while you investigate" says Selena suddenly nervous
"a little bit of both, your mom does want to know if you're stable, which should be easy enough to figure out, don't worry I'll tell Zoey you like like her" says David
"on second thought don't tell her" says Selena as she gets out of the car without the key to the cuffs
"any reason" asks David
"just don't tell her, it's that simple" says Selena
