Chapter Twenty-Six: Crumble.

"I will not go," Princess Myrcella snapped shaking her head, she didn't know why her mother had sent Jaime to collect her but she would not leave; her future was here and Dorne had been hard enough to adjust to. It had been strange coming here all alone knowing that she was to be married off, she had been ten when she had first come to Dorne and she had spent most of her time with Prince Oberyn's daughters and Princess Adrianne.

"The King would like you to return, you are his sister and it is time to take your place at court," Jaime stated trying to convince her that it was for the best. He really didn't think that she'd have put up this much of an argument, he had honestly been more concerned about the Dornish cause him issues in getting her back to King's Landing.

Prince Dorian watched the argument with much interest, he had admit that during Myrcella's time at his court that he had become fond of the girl; he didn't believe in blaming a child for the sins of their ancestors. However, that didn't mean that he allowed the Lannister pride to remain and he was pleased to see her become a strong woman who would not allow her family to control her.

Myrcella scoffed at that, she had learnt much during her time here that she knew her mother would not approve of; she had found herself educated along with Adrianne who had become one of her close friends.

"My brother has enough on his plate right now with the Sparrows to be concerned about my return," Myrcella dismissed staring at her uncle, she prided herself in the Dornish fashions that she now wore that she saw made her uncle very uncomfortable. He had asked her to cover up when they had met this morning, his attempt to sneak into Sunspear and sneak her away had been interrupted and Myrcella was horrified that they would dare such an act against her future in-laws.

Jaime looked confused at her, he had no idea what had transpired while he had been away; he had only come here because Cersei had insisted that her daughter would be murdered if she was not returned.

"His Queen rots in a prison cell as does my mother's former betrothed at the hands of the new Faith Militant that my own mother installed," Myrcella stated scornfully, even she knew that these actions would only end in tears and she couldn't understand why her mother had done this. Tommen had always been such a sweet soul, Myrcella recalled playing dress up with him when they were younger and she was often stuck with him while their mother doted upon Joffrey.

It saddened her that his rule was in ruin but the more she learned in Dorne, the more she understood that perhaps it was best tat Tommen stood done. If not for their mother then his rule would have been a great one after the mess of Joffrey but that could never happen as long as their mother was in the picture. Jaime looked like he'd been kicked in the stomach as he took in the news, he looked at those around him trying to see if Myrcella was wrong but their faces told him enough.

"I am staying in Sunspear, I will not abandon my people while there is a war on. I have so much to learn about Dorne and I can not do so in King's Landing," Myrcella stated passionately, she was a princess and she knew what her future was to be. If she returned to King's Landing then she knew without hesitation that her mother would break the alliance with the Dornish to keep her home and by her side.

Trystane was wonderful, he was so kind to her and he treated her well; she couldn't believe how blessed she was to be betrothed to him when there were so many other matches that could have been made. Trystane reminded her greatly of Robb Stark, she wondered if this was how her cousin had felt when she had married Robb; she looked forward to her chance to ask her. That was another reason that Myrcella didn't wish to return to King's Landing, she knew what was coming and she understood why; she only asked that they kept her brother safe.

Staring at her uncle, an idea formed in Myrcella's mind knowing that she now had the perfect opportunity to write to her brother without her letters being intercepted and she could only hope that Cersei hadn't sunk her claws into him. Myrcella knew there was only one chance that Tommen survived what was to come and that was Sanira.

Tommen had never felt more powerless in his life, not even during the Battle of Blackwater Bay or when his brother had died before his very eyes. He didn't understand how everything had gone so wrong, he had been so happy since he had married Margaery and she was so kind to him; now she sat in a prison cell along with his brother-in-law.

"Starving yourself won't make things any better for her, my love," Cersei said sweetly as she walked into the room, she had heard that Tommen had refused his meals since Margaery had been taken. Of course, she had come to her sweet boy's side when he needed her; who else would protect him from the cruel world that he didn't understand and would only hurt him.

"She's in a prison cell and there's nothing I can do. I am the king! The queen is in prison and there's nothing I can do!" Tommen shouted upset at the entire situation, he didn't understand how this had happened. He stood from the table where his meal was placed, a plate set out for Margaery but she would not be joining him here anytime soon. Walking towards the window, Tommen looked out of it distressed about what was happening; he felt so powerless and he hated that he truly had no one that he could turn to.

"No matter who you are, no matter how strong you are, sooner or later, you'll face circumstances beyond your control. Events you couldn't possibly have anticipated or prevented even if you had. You cannot blame yourself for fate," Cersei said softly joining him by the window. It was for the better that he learnt such harsh lessons now, she was the only one that he needed and soon he would understand that.

"Your father, your brother, your grandfather- I was Queen of the Seven Kingdoms and what could I do? Hold them as they left this world. Kissed their heads after they'd gone," Cersei stated mournfully, playing her part well as if she wasn't the very cause of Tommen's issues in this very moment. Soon enough both of her children would be back at her side, the Lannisters stronger than ever and no one would doubt her son's right to rule. Stannis would be dealt with soon enough, he would not steal her son's throne; he had nothing that the people wanted from him and no support.

"I'll call in the army. I'll take back the sept and kill every last one of them. I'll start a war if I have to," Tommen stated knowing that was what all those other men that his mother had mentioned would have done. They wouldn't have cowered away from the world like he was being asked to do, he couldn't get anyone to listen to him; everyone around him was at the command of his mother.

"You know as well as I do who the first casualty in that war would be," Cersei whispered brushing her fingers through his hair, trying to sooth him as she had done with Joffrey when he'd been upset. Not that she cared what happened to Margaery, she could rot in that cell for eternity as far as Cersei was concerned; she had everything she wanted now and nothing would steal it from her.

"I love her. I love her. I can't help her," Tommen stated shaking his head and stepping back from his mother, how did it look to his Kingdom when he couldn't even defend his wife from fanatics that were running the city. Why would his people want him on the throne if he couldn't even keep his wife safe from harm, he looked weak in the eyes of the people especially with a war dragging on.

"We must be strong for those we love. We cannot give in to despair," Cersei counselled him, she had worked so hard to protect her children and she would not faulter now. Her father had been a wise man and she was his daughter, she was the only one of his children that had ever amounted to anything and it was her own wits that had made her who she was now.

"I will speak to the high sparrow. There must be something…" Tommen said trying to understand all of this, the disgusting lies had to be just that; he knew his mother had to be behind what had happened to the Tyrells. The last thing they needed was for the alliance to crumble when there was so much riding on it, Tommen stared at his mother wishing he could voice his anger towards her. He'd heard enough whispers to know that she had been conversing with the High Sparrow quite frequently, her comings and goings weren't discrete when she had a King's Guard with her at all times as if she was still the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms like when his father had been alive.

"Let me speak to him on your behalf. The king cannot dirty sully himself negotiating with an unwashed fanatic," Cersei interrupted dismissing his idea, she knew that her involvement would be revealed if he spoke with the High Sparrow. It would not do at all and she couldn't have Tommen doing away with the Sparrows before she'd had her use for them; they could denounce Stannis as a heretic because of his involvement with that red woman.

While Stannis had been at Dragonstone, there had been whispers that had reached King's Landing of the burnings that had taken place in the name of some foreign god. It would be enough to denounce the public against the last remaining Baratheon, tales of what they could expect if Stannis ever took the city and how he would force them all to bow down to this foreign god.

"Your happiness is all I want in this world," Cersei assured him, she pressed a kiss to the top of his head knowing that she would kill to keep her children; she would do anything in this world to keep them safe and with her. When she thought that the city was lost to Stannis, she had been prepared to poison her children so that they couldn't end up like Elia's children had done. Now Tommen was a King, one that she could bend to her whim so much easier than she could have ever control Joffrey; he wasn't a monster that the people hated and wanted to kill.

"I know," Tommen murmured, he didn't doubt that his mother loved him, he just understood that she loved her power more; he felt trapped with her breathing down his neck. There was no escaping her, there was no one that he could turn to for help and he didn't even have his wife anymore because she'd taken that from him as well; he couldn't even attend his own small council meetings which his mother had stacked with her sycophants.

"No you don't. You can't possibly. Not until you have children of your own. I would do anything for you. Anything to keep you from harm. I would burn cities to the ground. That is all that matters. You and your sister. From the moment you came into this world, my boy. My only boy," Cersei said wrapping her arms around him. Jaime would be back from Dorne soon enough with Myrcella and then her family would be complete, she would have everything in the world and nothing was going to take that away from her.

Tommen allowed his mother to hold him, he didn't know what he was going to do; the only way he could find happiness was for her to disappear and yet he had never felt so trapped in his life. He wished Myrcella was here, she'd know what to do and it was her letters that were keeping him sane during this entire mess that his own mother was causing him. If truth be told, he didn't even want to be king; he'd happily give his crown to his uncle if he had the chance to do so; he would retire to the countryside and live his life with his cats away from all these people trying to control him.

Staring across the snowy landscape, Sanira let out a deep breath as her eyes locked on the one place that she'd never thought she'd see again. It felt like a lifetime ago that she'd been forced to flee like a rat in the sewer system when Theon had attacked but now here she was with an army of her own ready to take it back.

Sansa was beside her, neither of them saying a word as they stared at Winterfell; a place filled with so many happy memories and that they both had never thought that they would see again. Tightening her hold on her horse's reins, Sanira urged her horse forward knowing that they would need to set up base; it had been a long trip from the Eyrie and now that had to plot their attack.

Ramsey Bolton as he now called himself was determined to keep hold of what he had gained, there were whispers all through the North about his hunting parties and what he did to those that displeased him. Those foolish few that were still loyal to House Bolton had sided with the bastard son of Roose Bolton after their lord and master had lost his head at the Twins. The traitors would also be dealt with when the time came, they would deal with anyone that had sided with Ramsey.

Everyone had known that it was only a matter of time before the Starks marched home to take back Winterfell, no doubt Ramsey had set up traps for such an occasion to turn the fight in his favour. What he wouldn't be expecting was for the Golden Company to show up, 10,000 men ready and willing to fight for Sanira Stark, Queen in the North.
