Alaster POV
Warning: To those who haven't even read or finished reading Harry Potter for the first time. You might want to skip this chapter unless you want some spoilers.
Today I didn't expect to be taught about witches and wizards. Especially not ones from a fictional novel series.
So before today I've never really gotten into famous books and all that. Since I arrived at Camp all I've done is train, eat, sleep, and all that over again. I've never really had much time to just sit down and read anything.
So when Lou Ellen Blackstone, an unclaimed camper who got here about a month ago came to camp, she was apparently obsessed with wizards, witches, and stuff like that.
I befriended her and today she was going to tell me about her favorite book series of all time.
This is how it went down.
I left Zeus Cabin, sporting my new clothes, and walked towards Hermes cabin. I looked around the camp. Children of Apollo were doing target practice, not like they'd need it though. Children of Ares were sparring with Children of Athena. Most notably, Mark from Ares cabin was fighting Malcolm from Athena cabin.
I finally got to the Hermes cabin, but before I could knock the door swung open. Lou came out, with her long black hair and bright green eyes.
"Hey. You ready to be educated on the wonderful world of wizards?" Lou said
I shrugged my shoulders. "Seems like a waste of time to me"
"Nonsense." Lou said. "You're gonna change your mind after this"
She grabbed me by the wrist and dragged me into the cabin. I know I'm a son of Zeus and for the most part, more powerful than almost any other camper...but when you walk into the Hermes cabin you can't help but shake off the feeling you're about to get robbed or shanked or something like that.
Once we got to Lou's bed I saw...a lot to say the least. It was overwhelming. They were a lineup of seven books all with the same guy with glasses on them, a plush toy of a white owl, a couple of sticks that were supposed to be wands, a locket with an S that looked like a snake on it, a plastic golden goblet, a silver and blue diadem that looked like some sort of bird, a small plastic silver and scarlet sword, and there was also some sort of necklace with an hourglass on it.
"Okay...what is all of this?" I asked
Lou placed her hands on my shoulders. "Alaster. Today I'm going to educate you on one of if not the most famous book series in the world. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter."
"Harry what?" I asked
Yeah, I never really read a lot of books growing up. Besides the ones we were assigned to in school, my mom never really bought anything for me or Thalia besides food and water.
"Harry Potter. I'm going to pretend you didn't just say that. Harry Potter is the most famous book series in the entire world. It's amazing, and today I'm going to teach you all about it."
"All right. Fine. Enlightenment me." I said
Lou and I sat down on her bed. "Okay, so let's start with the basics. It's essentially about a boy named Harry Potter who goes to a magic school."
"Is that it? Sounds pretty dumb to me." I said
Lou deadpanned and spoke with a hint of annoyance. "No. That's not it. Harry was orphaned as a one-year-old when his parents were killed by the most powerful evil wizard ever, Voldemort. Harry was sent to live with his gods awful aunt, uncle, and cousin until a half-giant named Hagrid came to him on his eleventh birthday to tell him about his heritage as a wizard and how he's the most famous wizard in his world. I'm not going to go further into that because that's something you'll find out later."
"Okay." I said, I wasn't that interested at that point. It didn't sound too entertaining besides the whole thing with the parents getting killed.
"So when Harry gets to the school. The students of Hogwarts get sorted into their Houses." Lou said
"Houses?" I asked
"Not really what you think. The houses aren't actual buildings that the students live in. Not entirely anyway. The houses are living and learning communities for the students. The houses are a part of Hogwarts castle, along with the classrooms, great hall where they eat, and all of that. The students that are sorted into the same house shared dormitories, common rooms, and classes with each other."
"So they're all roommates?" I asked
"Yup," Lou said
"What do you mean by the students getting sorted into the same houses though?" I asked
"Okay, there are four houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. The four houses were named after the four founders of Hogwarts: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. Each student is sorted into the house in which traits they value the most. Gryffindors valued bravery, daring, nerve, and chivalry. Gryffindor is usually viewed as the house of champions and heroes." Lou said
I smirked. "Okay...I'm guessing I'm a Gryffindor then"
"Don't get too ahead of yourself. I haven't even told you about the other houses." Lou said. "The Hufflepuff house valued hard work, dedication, patience, loyal, and fair play. The Ravenclaw house valued intelligence, knowledge, curiosity, creativity, and wit."
"I guess most of the Athena kids are Ravenclaws then," I said
"Probably. But last and certainly not least. There's Slytherin. Slytherin valued ambition, leadership, self-preservation, cunning and resourcefulness." Lou said. "Slytherin is usually the house for the evil people though."
"I'm positive that I'm a Gryffindor," I said
"I don't know about that," Lou said. "I think you're a Slytherin"
"What? How am I a Slytherin? I don't put myself above others...anymore." I said
"How about we get back to that later. Each of the four founders had an item that would go on in legend. There's Slytherin's locket, Ravenclaw's diadem, Hufflepuff's cup, and the Sword of Gryffindor. All of which you can see on my bed. There's also a time-turner that you can use to go back in time, but whenever you do you age that amount of time you went back. And there are also the seven books that you see lined up behind us."
"Okay," I said. "So what now?"
"You are going to read all seven of the books and then tell me what you think of them after you're finished reading all of them"
Lou didn't put any objections aside and stacked the seven books in my arms. I carried them to the Zeus cabin. There I began reading. With each book it got more and more interesting...but I stopped at the sixth book when I finished it.
The moment I finished it I stormed to the Hermes cabin. Lou opened the door and I showed her the sixth book.
"I don't know how you thought I was a Slytherin. I hate Snape." I said
"How about you go and finish the last book before you come over here to start an argument," Lou said
I rolled my eyes and did just that. I finished the seventh book only about a couple of weeks later...
I went back to the Hermes cabin and started talking with Lou about it.
"Not all Slytherins are bad. Just because you might be a Slytherin doesn't mean you're evil. Just because you're a Gryffindor doesn't mean you're brave. It all depends on what you value as a person" Lou said
"Hmm...well we'll just see about that. Isn't there some kind of test I can take to prove which house I'm in?"
"Well, yes. I can quiz you right now," Lou took out a notebook and a pencil and began asking me questions that I began to answer.
About two, three, maybe even four minutes passed and finally Lou asked the final question. "Which would you rather be? Envied, Imitated, Trusted, Praised, Liked, or Feared?"
"Praised," I said
"Okay, the results are in," Lou said. "So you've gotten at least two answers for each question that belonged to each house. Okay. Better be...GRYFFINDOR!"
"Yes!" I yelled in victory.
"The majority of the answers you chose were the Gryffindor answers to the questions. Therefore, you're a Gryffindor."
"That was pretty fun," I said as I sat back down on the bed. "Is there any other quizzes you have for me"
Lou smiled broadly. "I'm glad you asked. We still have the Patronus and Wand quiz to do. Let's do the Patronus quiz first."
The Patronus quiz wasn't as long as the house quiz, it only took about a minute or two.
"Okay so your Patronus is an Eagle. Pretty expected since your dad is Zeus," Lou said
"Nice," I said. "So now we do the wand quiz"
"Yup."
Around two minutes later we got to the last question. "In a chest of magical artifacts, which would you choose...an ornate mirror, a dusty bottle, a golden key, a silver dagger, a bound scroll, a glittering jewel, or a black glove?"
"Silver dagger definitely," I said
"Okay. Your wand is Cedar wood with a Phoenix feather core, and is thirteen inches with reasonably supple flexibility. Now that we're done with all those quizzes, welcome to the Potter fandom, Alaster"
"This was pretty fun. Thanks, Lou," I said. "So you have your wands?"
"Yeah, I bought them before I came to camp," Lou said
"Do you maybe have one for me?" I asked
"Well, I wish I could just summon a wand that's supposed to be exactly like yours—"
Lou was cut off when a green light illuminated in-between us and something dropped on my lap. It was a bright red colored wand, it was about thirteen inches...just like the one that Lou had described mine.
I took it into my hand. I looked back at Lou. That's when I put everything together. Obsessed with magic stuff, she wished for the wand...
"You're a daughter of Hecate," I said
