The Laborious Chess Match

The one thing Ron had planned for the last two weeks was to beat everyone in the chest club. He had beaten everyone at Hogwarts in his first year and had not been defeated since. Except at the chess demonstration at the Science and History Museum in London.

For the first time since he was five, he had lost a game of chest. Mr. Gibson the man who beat him told him that he would be willing to teach him how to win at chess.

Since that day the only two people in the chest club he couldn't beat were Mr. and Mrs. Gibson who were Grand Masters. Mrs. Gibson was the more competitive of the two, but Mr. Gibson was the most skilled. He regularly exhorted him to apply his ability to think ahead not just to chest but also to life.

One area Mr. Gibson had critiqued him on severely was the way he treated his friends. Ron had made a point of writing to and trying to at least hold an interest in his friends' hobbies. In particular Hermione.

But at this point. It seemed that in this case Mr. Gibson advice had hoisted him by the drawers via Dragons Drool.

"Mr. Gibson, you owe me big for this." Thought Ron.

"OOOhh! Move your pillock of a bishop to H5 already!"

"Mrs. Gibson. Please start counting. It will help please!"

Angela Gibson, nine months pregnant and in labor fixed the muggle ambulance man a withering look.

"I'm in labor, Mr. Wikley! Are you going to tell a pregnant woman in labor what to do?," Roared Angela from her place on the ambulance bed as another contraction hit.

"Um. no?"

"Good, I can count contractions and play chess at the same time if I bloody FEEL LIKE IT. Ron pawn to D3." Yelled Angela as she took a deep breath.

"Yes Mrs. Gibson. ROOK to G4"

Harry winced as he saw the string attached to the needle glided in and out of his flesh. The doctor who worked on him demanded that he tell him who had shot a young boy with arrow.

Harry wondered what the doctor would say if he told him the truth, "Sorry, Doctor Mendez you wouldn't believe me because the guy who shot me is the beaten up version of the Long John Silver, who has the temper of a Bear with a bad toothache."

Mr. Mendez, I just ran past some reenactment battle. It was my fault entirely."

"Where is your guardian, Lad! because if you don't produce one soon I will have Scotland Yard in here to find out why a kid is running around London without his parents!" Snapped Mendez as he gently pulled the strand up closing the wound.

"The wound isn't that bad though si-" started Harry before Mendez cut him off.

"Boy, I do a little bit of reenactment myself and the only way you get a hole that big from an arrow would be if someone is using broad heads. Your lucky to be alive." Mendez grabbed a hypodermic off the table flicking on it as he pushed air bubbles out of the vile before sticking it non to gently into Harry's shoulder.

"Ouch, Not stop dancing around with your words and tell me the truth." Stated Mendez as he got and walked over to the table where a phone sat.

"Last chance, lad. I wouldn't want my own son injured like you are now or however you have been injured by others in the past." Stated Mendez as he picked the phone off the box as Harry started at his last statement.

"I've had a couple of bad accidents,-"

"Lad, that is a load of crap. I can tell from the way you watch people and the way you respond to their proximity. After working in the ER for the past 18 years I've seen a lot of abused children come through." Said Mendez as he began dialing the number for the police.

Harry's heart sank. He was toast. He couldn't escape with magic where he was located and he couldn't move fast enough to outmaneuver a radio at least not without Uncle Vernon finding out about it. While it wouldn't stop his activities it would slow him down.

"Doctor Mendez!"

"Aggy, it wait!"

"We have a difficult patient in the maternity ward."

"How bad.'

"She's insisting on playing a game of chest with a thirteen year old while she is dilating," Said the nurse with a grin.

"Can't some other doctor take this. I'm dealing with a emergency right know!" Stated Mendez with a Snarl as he eyed the boy. The kid was already looking around looking for a way to use the situation to his advantage.

"There is no other doctor. Whiteast and McDonald are both out for the day." Explained Agatha with a shake of her head.

Mendez grabbed Harry and Agatha as he began stomping his way to the maternity ward. He was dragging the nurse and boy by the hand like a lion dragging its kill away.

"Agatha, you're keeping an eye on this boy outside the door while I'm helping out with the labor. He doesn't get out of your sight. He has been abused and is likely to run out on us. Is that understood." Snapped Mendez as he stared at the Welsh nurse. The girl gulped and nodded her head as grabbed Harry's shoulder and began following the charging doctor.

Sirius Black was hunting.

The Heir of the most Ancient and Noble House of Black was angry. He was beyond angry. He was furious. For the past 16 years he had dubiously followed the orders of Albus Dumbledore and had faced the consequences of his decisions. Until four days ago. Four days ago those doubts were proven true.

He woke up with the snarling face of his elf; Kreacher, telling him that there was a filthy animal at the front door. He stumbled through the hallway giving his mother the finger as he passed her painting. He looked through the door only to see Remus Lupin barely alive hanging off the shoulder of Poppy Pomfrey.

The Heir of Black cared for his friend who had nearly killed him only a few weeks ago. As he listened to his friend and the whole story came out. The way Albus Dumbledore had used Vassel oaths to enforce his will on his allies and taken advantage of the trust that thousands had placed in him for past 16 years.

He hadn't realized utterly wrong he had been.

The story of Harry's abuse not just with the Dursleys but also at Hogwarts painted a picture. A picture finished with a flourish of a brush that was the only false step.

The extra meetings with Dumbledore.

Sirius had in his youth held many meetings with the Headmaster although mainly because he, James, Remus, and Peter had pranked someone again. Which wasn't abnormal. But the even then the amount of meetings that Harry had held with the Headmaster would out number any other three students. Combined with the stories from Remus on all Harry had gotten involved with in the past few years. It completed the portrait.

Dumbledore was preparing Harry for something.

The Heir of Black was morphed into the Giant Grim as he smelled blood on the sidewalk. Harry's blood.

He had been researching the string of accidents in Diagon Alley for the past two days. It had James and Lily's hands all over them.

He researched the crime scene moving between the Aurors as he sniffed the ground. Harry was wounded.

He circled the region of London until he found the blood trace in a decidedly busy muggle area. He regained the trailed running miles as he followed the scent of his godson.

A godson he had abandoned at the orders of Albus Dumbledore and then neglected in favor of vengeance. Sentencing the boy to hell on earth at the hands of the Dursleys.

He was close. "Harry is close. Very Close."

The head of the great Grim came up as his eyes saw the black and white shades of the Hospital walls in the distance. He was close. The blood wasn't old which meant Harry was nearby.

The victorious hunting howl of the large dog drew stares from a few onlookers as the Grims Hackles raised along his back as the massive dog raced toward the hospital.

Sirius Black was hunting.

For his Godson.

Harry jumped as he heard another striek hit the air. He looked over at Agatha the nurse was braced and ready to run as he sat on a low chair with his feet spread out.

"Okay Angela, You can let the young man go. I'll help you no-"

"Doctor, Mene- UAHHHH-ez. Unless you can pull off a discover Checkmate in three moves then Young Ronald is going to stay and play chest with me unless you want to take over-"

"Mrs. Gibson, I don't care at the moment. My job is to help you give birth and traumatizing young Ronald here isn't going to do you or him any good." Stated Mendez.

"Mrs. Gibson, You are 18 cm dilated you will be giving birth soon. The boy will leave now. Ronald step outside please." Stated Mendez as he pushed Ron towards out the door.

"Ron!"

"Harry!"

"You know each other. Never mind! Agatha! This boy doesn't go anywhere either." Stated Mendez as he closed the door only for a foot to get stuck in the door.

Agatha, Mendez, Ron and Harry looked as a red-faced Mr. Gibson pushed passed doctor Mendez as he moved into the Maternity room.

"Angela, are you okay! How are you doi-

"Where were you, you piece of shit! I'm giving birth and I have to conscript Ronald to play chess with and You're not around! Ahhhh" Screamed Angela.

Mendez slammed the door shut behind him leaving Agatha with Harry and Ron.

Harry looked at Agatha, "Where did he come from exactly?"

Agatha grinned as she pointed down the corridor to a series of swinging doors, "If you want to see any man win a four minute mile tell him he has a baby coming. Any decent man will be there in a few seconds."

"Harry!"

"Neville will you be quiet there are new mothers around here." Whispered Hermione furiously as she Neville and Mr. Granger walked in from the other direction of the hall.

"You know him too?" Questioned Agatha as she checked for the next person to show up who knew the abused kid. Only to see an Old woman that looked like she was wearing a raven for a hat pushing through the corridor door that Mr. Gibson had just come through.

"Neville, Were were you! I had to stomp all over muggle London trying to find you. Only to find out from Arthur Weasley where you were going." Hissed the old woman.

Agatha couldn't believe it. If this kept up she would have the Prime Minister in here next saying he knew Harry. "Would you all follow me to the waiting area, Please." Stated the Welsh woman as she began shepherding the mottle crew of adults down the hallway away from the screams that would soon bring a new child into the world.

"So is my Dad here," Asked Ron as he looked at Hermione only for Mr. Granger to answer for her.

"I think we saw when he came in. Said he wanted to look at something." Stated Mr. Granger.

Agatha wondered how her life could get anymore confusing.
