He stared at the crack in the sky, the Space-Time Rift, as Hisuian natives refer to it, with scrutiny. Ever since it appeared, their world had been hit with waves of the energy, dropping thing from the distortions. Ranging from weird object and items from what some would say came from another world, to Pokémon of unknown origin or species, and even a member from the Pearl Clan fell from the rift.
He was concerned with what could fall, it was bad enough that they had no real knowledge about the more threatening Pokémon of the region. If something truly destructive were to appear, they may not have a counter measure.
As Braviary landed on the railing, Kamado spoke, "What was it?"
What would surprise anyone except a few (Kamado included), Braviary begun tapping one of it's talons against the railing in a particular rhythm. After it finished, Kamado murmured, "A human." A nod was given.
Laventon sighed in disappointment, as Cyndaquil ran off, several shatter and scorched ball-like items scattered around where the fire mouse once was. "It's hopeless..."
The teen the Pokémon found approached, as Laventon greeted, "It's great you're here at last. Now... for your attempt." As he held out a ball made of some sort of shell-like material, outfitted with a metal latch and a pipe like piece stuck out at the top.
Accepting some of the devices, the teen looked them over, a tinge familiarity filling him. Professor Laventon explained, "These are recently crafted devices, known as Pokéballs. They allow Pokémon to be captured." Noting the confused look he received, he further explained, "You see, Pokémon have an innate ability to shrink down to the size of a pocket. Pocket Capsules or Pokéballs as I refer to them as, take advantage of this, containing them. Now for my darlings, there three different species that live here in Hisuian, though, they're exceeding rare here in Hisui as far as we know. I'm currently researching them to the best of my abilities, but they've been acting a little too wild for me to get all of their information down."
He pointed at where the mouse ran to, "The first is the Mouse Pokémon, Cyndaquil, they're normally docile, but a little easy to startled, they'll flare up their quills in self-defense and spit flames if your not careful."
The teen nodded, as he tiptoed toward the rocks, leaning his head into the space, he noticed the Cyndaquil, roasting an Oran Berry. With the Pokéball in hand, he threw it, hitting the Cyndaquil upside the head, before the ball clattered away.
A tick mark formed above her head, as the Cyndaquil incinerated the ball. Hiding out of sight, he nearly shrinked down, 'He wasn't lying, he was not lying...' that's when something plopped down on his head. Feeling two talons latch tightly onto his head, he tilted his head up, seeing yellow and green feathers, as Rowlet seemed to have settled comfortably.
Taking out another ball, he stared at it, before noticing a latch at the front of it. Unhooking it, he tossed up slightly, Rowlet blinked in confusion, as he was absorbed in a blue glow into the ball. The ball hit the teen, before releasing a puff of steam. Hitting the floor, it released another puff of air, a star rising with it, before breaking apart like a firework.
Picking it up, he felt a weird excitement over catching the owlet. Tucking the ball away, he glanced at Cyndaquil, who was munching away on the now-seared berry. Taking care to unlatch the ball, he threw it at the mouse once again, hitting Cyndaquil upside the head. Being drawn into the ball, the ball bounced similarly to Rowlet's, before a star puffed upward.
Picking it up, he heard a light whistle noise, before something fell. Stalking around the rock, he noticed a small tree had fallen, as the final Pokémon, a Sea Otter with a shell in it's paws, nodded at it's work.
Staring in disbelief, he jumped at Laventon commenting, "That's Oshawott, it's a Sea Otter Pokémon. Be wary though, this one's aggressive, it will use it's Scalchop to battle mostly. You may need to call upon one of the others for assistance."
Nodding, the Teen approached quietly, as he ready a new Pokéball, while his hand twitched near one of the caught Pokémon's ball. Throwing it, Oshawott's head shot in his direction, as he gripped his Scalchop, slicing the Pokéball cleanly in two with raw normal energy.
A bead of sweat dotted his forehead, he threw one of the other Pokéballs, as Cyndaquil landed, her quills blazing to life. Taking stance, Cyndaquil growled, as Oshawott mocked her, while Laventon called, "While I have yet to study it in full, Cyndaquil does know Ember, Quick Attack, and Rock Smash."
Nodding, the teen called, his throat coarse, "Ember." Cyndaquil nodded, launching bursts of flames, a little weaker compared to when she roasted a berry. Oshawott responded with a strong stream of water, it overpowered the fire move easily and continued on to Cyndaquil. The boy yelled, "Quick Attack!" Before breaking into a fit of coughs.
Cyndaquil moved in a blur, the water move skidding past her, before she rammed into the otter, the teen croaked, "Rock... *cough, cough* Smash..." Cyndaquil nodded, as her fist shimmered with an orange glow, before she smashed it into Oshawott, leaving him winded.
Catching himself, he threw a new Pokéball at the dazed water-type, hitting true. As the ball bounced off the ground, it released several puffs of smoke, as the familiar star roses upward, before popping into fireworks, much like it did previously.
Laventon cheered, "Those captures were Splendiferous! And you seem to be capable Pokémon Wielder. Your simply would be perfect to help with a special project, Rei!"
Recalling Cyndaquil, the teen tilted his head, clearing his throat, before quietly questioning, "'Rei?'"
Laventon nodded, "Yes, Rei. I know it may be a little quick for me to give a name, but without any memory of who you are, I think Rei would be perfect."
"Rei..." Rei repeated the word, think about the new name. After a moment, he nodded, "Yes... it would be... nice..." his quiet tone sounded grateful, "Thank you."
Laventon waved his hand in dismissal, replying, "No problem, Rei. Now then, back to the Pokémon."
Rei nodded, taking all three out and holding them out to Laventon. Taking them, he spoke, "I think it would be beneficial for you to keep one of them, if you agree to something.
Rei asked, "What...?"
Laventon explained, "You see, I'm actually known as a Pokémon Professor. My goal ever since I got here; is to discover and catalogue all Pokémon of the Hisui region. I want to ask if you'd be willing to help accomplish my dream?"
Rei looked down, before remembering the device's comment, 'find them all.'
Rei nodded, "Yes, I'll help."
"Perfect, if that's the case I want you to keep one of my darlings for now. Testing them in battle is a perfect way to research them. You can pick between one of them for now."
Rei looked thoughtful for a moment, for deciding, "I'll stick with using Cyndaquil..."
Laventon cheered minorly, "Alright, here is Cyndaquil's Pokéball. And follow me, I'll talk to one of my allies at home. Please follow me."
Rei nodded, tucking the ball into his pocket, as he walked after Laventon.
AN:
Please forgive me if this chapter was slow, I really didn't know any better way to write it than this.
Now onto the whole 'clip on ball' thing. Before you say anything contradictory, every Pokémon that's caught in a Pokéball, the clip is on the top half of the ball, when it signifies a Pokémon is captured, the clip goes down, in addition to the star and second puff of steam.
Now, if you have anything to say about your thoughts on this chapter, please say it. Creative criticism is accepted.
Until then, ja ne.
