Act One: The Arrival
Chapter Sixteen: The Truth About Renee
***
As promised Phil picked Lena up after school, he was in the car while she ran into the store to get the 'supplies' that she would need to prove that Renee was unfaithful to her father. She walked out with a smirk on her face.
The blonde climbed into the car and Phil gave her a look "Did you get everything?"
"Ye, now all we need is someplace quiet where we won't be disturbed."
"We could just go back to the motel room and do this and then we go out and do something."
Lena nodded, "Sounds like a plan… and I am sorry if it turns out to be true… I know I don't like her but still…" Phil nodded at her before he pulled out of the parking lot of the store and headed back to his motel room, for them to find out if they were right about his wife. He hoped they weren't but deep down he knew that something was going on.
A little while later the father-daughter duo were back in the room and Lena sat down cross-legged on the bed and got everything out that she had bought from the store. "All right first we have a burner phone and a voice changer… that is only in case they try to call us …"
Phil nodded at her "Okay so what do we do first?"
"First we set the phone up." then she pulled out an old cell phone that used to be hers before she got the one she uses now."
"What is that phone for?" Phil was watching his daughter work albeit a little confused.
"I just need the sim card out of it, it won't very believable if the number isn't an Arizona number so I take the sim card out of my old phone and then insert it into the burner phone and then activate the phone and bam, we have a phone with am Arizona number."
"I'm not even gonna ask how you know how to do any of this."
Lena laughed as she continued to work and a little while later she had the phone activated. "Okay now that's done, give me your phone dad, I need the number for one of the guys on the team… any one of them will do." Phil then gave her one of the numbers and Lena put it into the phone as she started a new text message, she held back a shudder as she typed out the message, Hey baby, I had a good time last night… wondering when we can do it again? Then she hit send… "Now we wait for the reply before we really get into this."
Phil had just come to the realization that Lena, his daughter, shared many traits with her mother and grandmother. This made him slightly apprehensive, as he may not have known Kassia's mother's true identity, but had encountered her and recognized that much of Lena's personality mirrored that of her mother and grandmother.
Lena saw the look her father was giving her and held back a laugh as she read his thoughts unintentionally. She knew that he was right but she couldn't outwardly react because then he would ask what was so funny and then she couldn't explain it because he was human and there were rules about humans knowing about the supernatural world though there were special expectations to that.
They waited for about five minutes when the phone dinged alerting them that there was a new text message.
Who is this? That was what the message said. She read it out to her father before replying.
Oh come on now baby, you know who it is we did say no direct connections so that nobody finds out about us. Then she read it out to get her father's approval he nodded and she hit send.
The second reply was a lot quicker than the first. Lean opened the message and skimmed her eyes over the words… she knew, she wanted them to get a divorce but she did feel bad for her dad at this… Okay good Renee, just wanted to make sure that it was really you. We can meet up again on Thursday night if that works for you.
Phil watched as Lena read the new text message and he saw the look in her eyes as she read it and just that look told him everything he needed to know, it was true, they were right, Renee had been sleeping around with at least one of the guys on his team.
"I know that I wanted you two to get a divorce but I am sorry that she turned out to be a terrible person and couldn't stay faithful to you."
Phil ruffled Lena's hair and sighed, he had suspected this for a while now but just didn't want to believe it because he did love Renee. Lena got up and hugged her dad, who wrapped his arms around her and rested his chin on the top of her head. "I am too kiddo, but we will get through this, you and me."
"Yeah, we will Dad." the blonde said as she remained in her father's arms, the man was trying not to show just how much this hurt him to find out in front of his daughter, but part of her magic let her sense familial emotions meaning that she can only sense the emotions of her immediate family. "It's okay dad, you can let it out, I'm not gonna judge you for that, you did just get a huge heartbreaking bombshell dropped on you."
The man shook his head, he didn't know how she always knew these things… but he let the tears fall down his face, he really thought he had found the one, in Renee but she never felt the way he did about it, because if she did she obviously wouldn't have felt the need to sleep around behind his back.
Lena was feeling the extent of her father's pain and was contemplating ways to seek revenge on Renee for causing it. However, she couldn't shake off the guilt of realizing that this was her own idea to begin with. "I'm sorry Dad."
Phil noticed the tone in his daughter's voice and paused. He then looked her in the eye and reassured her, "Lena, it's not your fault. I agreed to this because I also wanted to know the truth."
The blonde nodded, "I just couldn't help but feel a little guilty because I suggested we do this not realizing how it could affect you if it turned out to be true."
"To tell you the truth sweetheart, I've suspected it for a while now but I just didn't want to believe that she would cheat, like that." he paused for a moment, "I think you're right, divorcing her is the best course of action here… I'll get in touch with our lawyer and get the papers drawn up and then she's getting served and I need to find out which guys on the team she's slept with because they will all be out of a job, that is my team, I built it from the ground up and they are all replaceable."
After they found out the truth Lena, suggested ordering food and just hanging out there watching movies for a while which her father agreed to and, Phil felt a little better just spending some time with his daughter.
