Chapter 6: Smells like Teen Spirit
Alaric punches the dummy, ejecting two stakes into the target drawn where the heart would be, imagining it was Damon still bitter towards the vampire who killed him for no reason but to be a dick. "So the pressure of your punch ejects the stakes." He explains to Elena and Adele who are standing behind him. Elena had come to him and asked him to train her, why Adele was there he had no idea. She knew how to stake a vampire. She knew how to shoot one for that matter.
"Easy enough." Elena says stepping up to the dummy. She puts her fist up before swinging and hitting the dummy just above where Alaric had but the stakes don't come out. "Weird." She mutters and Adele and Alaric smirk at each other. She tries again but it still doesn't work and she looks at the device on her wrist. "Must be jammed." She says as she snaps it off, handing it to Adele as she holds out her hand for it. Adele straps it on.
"You're not strong enough." Alaric tells her. "Better start lifting some weights, put some meat on your bones." Adele punches the dummy the same as Elena and the stakes snap out impaling themselves into the dummy. She smirks down at it in triumph. She liked these things. Justin carried them as well and he'd let her use them a few times. Elena is frowning at her and she shrugs. It's not her fault she's stronger than her twin. Adele liked physical labor. Elena didn't.
"Thanks for sugar coating it." Elena practically snaps at Alaric.
"It's not his fault." Adele says as she's taking the device off. "You asked him to train you; he's doing so in telling you to toughen up. You can't be weak to be a fighter Elena."
"You know what this is?" Alaric asks holding up a homemade grenade before the two twins could get into it.
"A vervain grenade." Elena answers. "I've used one before."
"Then you know the element of surprise is your only advantage when it comes to a vampire." Alaric pulls the pin before throwing it at Elena yelling surprise. She shirks throwing it at Adele who easily catches it with a glare directed at Elena as she quickly throws it into the air where it explodes. Elena turns on Alaric.
"This isn't a joke to me Ric!"
"You think I'm joking? Vampires will take whatever they want. They will hurt whoever they want. And they'll do it without remorse. It's their nature." Alaric snaps and Elena swallows.
"You don't have to use pronouns, you can say Stefan."
"Believe me Elena, Stefan isn't the only vampire you of all people have to worry about." Adele tells her to which she glares but it's true and she knows it.
"I get why you're here. Stefan hurt you. You don't want it to happen again." Alaric cuts there soon to be argument short.
"But you think that I'm crazy. To believe that I can protect myself from a vampire who's flipped the switch on his humanity." Alaric looks at Adele who only shrugs a shoulder. Nobody thought that. Elena was just a Negative Nelly this morning.
"I think you found a way to get out of bed this morning. And that makes you the strongest person I know. I think that you can do pretty much anything." Elena takes a deep breath looking back at her sister who is grinning behind her with her arms crossed.
"Oh he's right. You getting out of bed this morning is probably the strongest thing you've ever done, even I don't think I would've done it." She says but Elena scoffs. Adele's Fiancé was murdered along with a whole family she'd come to love and here she was standing behind her with a whole different life put together for herself. A boyfriend she loves and friends and family she'd die for. Adele was the strongest person among them, who were they trying to fool?
But Adele thought different. She admires Elena for being here this morning. The only reason she came was to see if she'd actually show up. She was finally taking control of her life. Adele was proud.
*VD*
She left Alaric to training her sister. She wanted to get home and get another hour of sleep because today was the first day of senior year so when her alarm goes off an hour later and her eyes flutter open slowly expecting to be met with Damon's sleeping face, or his back, she's instead met with a pair of beady black eyes that are staring blankly back at her. She almost screamed, almost before she realized that they weren't real beady black eyes. They we're attached to a giant stuffed panda bear. As her eyes travel down she sees the folded note attached to it.
Sitting up she plunks the note from the stuffed panda silently awing at it as she finally sees the thing in a whole. It was the most adorable stuffed panda she's ever saw and according to the note, it's all hers.
Kitten,
I hope you like the panda. It's my way of saying "I'm sorry I'm a dick" because I know despite the amazing sex, you are still very mad at me. If you'd like the second part of my apology, get ready and come down stairs. I'm in the kitchen.
Love,
Damon.
Stumbling out of bed, she races into the bathroom where she brushes her hair and teeth before stumbling back out into the room and dressing quickly. She sends the panda one last glance before heading into the hallway, where she bumps into Stefan.
"Well, well." Stefan smirks down at her, a smirk she's never actually seen on his face before, all playful and what not. "Don't you look surprised, Damon didn't inform you that I was here last night before you two jumped each other?" Adele's eye brow raises and his smirk turns into a grin. "Oh yes, I heard that."
"Well if you think I'm going to be embarrassed by that, your mistaken Stefan. I can happily tell you that I am doing your brother. If you're going to be staying you might want to get used to listening to it, it happens quite often and I don't plan on stopping because you don't like listening to it, in fact I'll make sure to be extra loud if you try and stop us." She crosses her arms over her chest, her hip pushing out as she stares up at him, as if daring him to challenge her and he holds up his hands, as if surrendering.
"I can deal with it and if you're going to be staying here often…"
"More like every night. I practically live here now. I didn't die so if I hadn't put the house back in Damon's name this would still be my house so yes, I'm staying here. We're house mates now Stefan. Surprise." She sends him an overly bright smile.
"Like I said I can deal with you and Damon, if you can deal with the fact that I might be having some fun of my own, that probably won't involve your sister." He tells her to which she looks unconcerned. Good.
"I don't care what you do with your spare time Stefan, as long as you don't ruin the house and keep out of my way. We will not have a problem."
"Good." He grins making his way past her towards his bedroom. He stops only to turn back. "Sorry about attacking you by the way."
"No, you're not." She turns, giving him a flat look. "You have no humanity and despite not having humanity, you still know me and you should know that I'm not stupid so don't lie to me. It's not attractive. And I mean it, Stefan. Stay out of my way." She turns towards the stairs and walks away casually, like the conversion they'd just had was just a normal 'how's your morning?' type of thing. Well then, he may just like her the best as of now on.
*VD*
She finds him in the kitchen, exactly like he'd said along with a plate of waffles, fruit, orange juice, a lit candle and a rose. She fights the grin forming as she looks up at him, standing behind the island where the meal is placed with a crooked smirk. "I made you breakfast."
She moves further in taking a stand across from him. "I can see that. Why?"
"I'm a douche," He starts causing the blonde to snort but she lets him continue. "And this is my way of saying I'm sorry."
"This is your way of apologizing for throwing a fit you mean because if this was your way of saying sorry for being a douche, you should be making me breakfast every morning." She tells him picking up a strawberry. She smirks at him biting into it as he narrows his blue eyes at her.
"I'm trying to do something nice here." He reminds her.
"And I appreciate it. I really do." She moves around the island to stand beside him. "But I've moved on. Today is a new day, filled with new things to discover, new things to learn." Damon raises an eyebrow and she blows out a huff. "It's the first day of senior year and I'm already going to be late."
"Well then what's the problem? Eat." And she does. She eats the waffle and lets him feed her pieces of the fruit, laughing when he licks the strawberry juice that rolls down her chin.
"Are you okay? I mean with Stefan being here and all? I know it probably wasn't the best walking down the stairs to the two dead brunettes on the bottom of the steps." Adele rolls her blue eyes running her arms along his shoulders and around his neck.
"I'm fine Damon. He has no humanity and he's under Klaus's control so we have to deal with him and I can. Like I told him in the hall as long as he stays out of my way, we'll be fine." Damon chuckles, the sound vibrating through her as he traps her between the island and his body.
"Of course you did and I'm sure even without humanity he will heed the warning. I know I would." He says against her jaw as he brushes his lips across it, towards her lips.
"Damon…" She runs her hands down to his chest meaning to push him away but they flatten spreading out across his hard abdomen. "I have to go to school." Her protest comes out weak as his lips move down her neck. She catches her bottom lip between her teeth as his hands slip beneath her top, flattening against the small of her back pulling her against him and igniting a fire deep in her belly. "Damon…"
Music from somewhere else in the house begins making Damon's sinful mouth stop just above her collar bone as they both glance up. With the mood completely ruined Adele pushes Damon off lightly straightening herself out. "Now, I must finish getting ready for school. I might actually be able to make it if I hurry."
*VD*
She follows Damon down the stairs after finally getting ready. They step over the two dead brunettes who are still managing to bleed all over the rug. Damon huffs in annoyance as he notices.
They come to the living room where Stefan is playing some twisted version of twister with what looks to be some college girls. "Uh-oh. Alexandra," He calls to one of the girls in a short jean skirt after spinning the spinner. "Left hand please." The girl holds her wrist out to him, letting him bite into it and Adele rolls her eyes shifting throw her backpack to make sure everything is there.
"Hey." Damon calls to his brother. "The two brunettes on the staircase owe me a Persian rug."
"You mean they owe us a Persian rug? It's my house, too, brother." Stefan smile over to them and Adele straightens up pushing her backpack strap onto her shoulder.
"Really we should all just agree that it's my house. I'm the woman in this relationship and I clean it. I'm just letting you both stay here so they owe us a new Persian rug." She says to him and he raises an eyebrow at Damon who is grinning widely as if the idea of his girlfriend claiming the house is exciting to him but it's the fact that she's acknowledging that she can claim the house that has him grinning like an idiot.
"You heard the woman." He mutters before looking around at the scene once more. "So this is what Klaus had in mind when he compelled you to protect Elena?"
"These ladies are helping me be all that I can be." Stefan smirks and Adele rolls her blue eyes.
"I'm sure there helping you out a lot." She mutters stomping forward and snatching a purple fuzzy blanket from under his legs. "This is mine." She says. "I don't want them touching my stuff, none of it. Got it?" She stares him straight in the eyes and he nods eyeing the fuzzy blanket that he hadn't thought twice about when one of the girls had snatched it off the back of the couch. "And the two dead girls need to be taken care of when you're done here. We don't need anybody stumbling in and finding them because god forbid you two could ever lock the front door. Get rid of them and this…" She mentions around to the blood on the floor. "Is disgusting. Make sure you clean it up. I don't care if it's 2 in the damn morning Stefan, if I see one drop of blood on the floor I'll make you scrub them with a tooth brush."
"Yes, mother." He's smirking up at her and she raises an eyebrow her hands moving to her hips.
"I'm not joking. One drop Stefan Salvatore and your ass if on your hands and knees with a tooth brush. Remember that."
"Your brave you know that. I'm an emotionless vampire and you're mothering me." He's says chuckling.
"I don't care if you're freaking Klaus. I cleaned these floors the other day and I'll be damned if you mess them up. One drop, got it?"
"Yes ma'am." He nods as there's a knock on the door.
"Good." She moves away, following after Damon as he answers it, unable to wipe the wide grin from his face.
He answers it, finding an unknown blonde standing there looking rather annoyed. "Where's Stefan?" The girl asks her English accent thick. She moves into the house quickly pushing back a confused Damon. Adele raises an eyebrow upon seeing her.
"He left me here!" She exclaims to Stefan who stares up at her calmly. "My brother actually left me here!"
"Oh, I'm sorry." Stefan replaces his clam expression with one of mock apology. "Your tone implies that I'm actually supposed to care."
"You're Klaus sister?" Damon asks as Adele whispers to him her name. Rebekah turns around sending something along the lines of a glare in his direction.
"Rebekah. Pleasure I'm sure." She turns back to Stefan. "Which one is my room?" Stefan actually laughs though it's dry and humorless.
"You're not staying here."
Rebekah turns her annoyed blue eyes to the couple by the door. Damon merely stares at her as Adele rolls her own blue eyes pointing off towards the stairs because she just doesn't have the time for this. Rebekah sends her a grin before glaring at the boys. "Rude. The both of you."
Once she's gone Adele turns her eyes back to Stefan. "Remember…"
"I know, one drop." He smirks at her. She huffs turning to Damon.
"Walk me out." Her smile is suggestive and Damon glances at his brother only briefly as Adele opens the front door strolling out into the sunlight and his eyes trail after her.
"Try not to kill anyone else yes?" Damon calls shutting the door behind him as he follows his girlfriend like a puppy and Stefan rolls his eyes. Now that he himself is not falling all over Elena he can clearly see that his brother is so very whipped that it could be considered comical.
*VD*
He opens the passenger side door for her, letting her step out of the car before closing it. She had every intention of driving herself but Damon insist on driving her, saying something about staking a claim but what he doesn't seem to understand is that no claim needs to be staked. She was his.
That doesn't stop him from wrapping an arm around her waist, pulling her into him as his hand cups the back of her neck. "Damon…" He silences her, his lips meeting hers in a mind numbingly slow kiss. Her own hands move to the back of his necking holding him there though she's screaming at herself to push him away but her body apparently had a mind of its own where Damon was concerned.
He pulls away when oxygen becomes necessary for the both of them and now she doesn't want to leave him. She wants to go home with him and never leave, ever again but he's letting her go, grinning. "Have a good day Kitten." He's saying as he's climbing back into the car and she glares. The bastard.
She meets up with Caitlyn and Lucy at the steps leading up to the front doors and there smirking at her with total 'I knew it' looks. "Please, don't start." She tells them moving past them and they flock her, one on each side.
"Are you kidding? How could we not start? We knew it!" Lucy exclaims. "We knew something more was going on between you to!"
"It literally just happened. I haven't even had time to process it." She tells them moving down the hall towards her locker.
"You do realize that news of your new found relationship will be all over town by the next hour right? That kiss definitely didn't go unnoticed. If Michael decides not to show up, it'll definitely reach him anyways." Caitlyn is saying and Adele scoffs because Michael couldn't care less.
"Michael knows about my 'new found relationship'." She informs them and they gap at her. "He's known. He doesn't care because he too has a new found relationship. He's dating a very close friend of mine. Actually they live together and they have a dog. His name is Willy and he's adorable. They are adorable."
"Either way, we knew it. Even if this relationship between you and Damon is new, we knew it was bound to happen. There was no way; the two of you could get by with simple looks forever." Caitlyn says as they reach Adele's locker and instead of opening the metal door she turns to her auburn haired friend.
"What looks?" She asks.
"Oh come on." Lucy laughs. "The 'I want you, please take me' looks. The closer you two we're the more obvious it was."
"God, do you two just live to observe us?" Adele laughs turning back to her locker.
"Not really," Caitlyn answers. "But we see you guys around all the time. It's not our fault that you're too consumed by Damon's beauty to notice us."
"Gilbert!" Adele turns her head, almost groaning as she catches sight of the wolfish grin plastered on Jason Smallwood's face. "That was some scene out there."
"Can we not talk about it? I get it, Damon and I are dating. We kissed. Big whoop." She shuts her locker after grabbing the books she needs and storing the ones she didn't.
"That wasn't just any kind of kiss Gilbert. That was a 'this is all mine and you can't have any' kind of kiss. People around here now know exactly who you belong to. We also know a little bit about this boyfriend of yours now. Like the fact that he's possessive." He explains and she has the urge to bang her head into her locker but instead she grins up at Jason.
"Yes he is. He's staking a claim or so he says. According to him teenage boys are not to be trusted."
"Not with you there not." He agrees. "I saw a lot of jealous stares out there. The fact that you we're single all year last year was the highlight of a lot of guy's year. That meant that after your year of 'getting over Michael' you'd finally be looking for someone else, now they know that they we're positively mistaken."
Her year of 'getting over Michael'? Was that really what people we're saying? Had they really thought she'd dictate a whole year to mending imaginary wounds about her break up with Michael? Sure, they dated for a while and yeah, at one time they we're inseparable but come on, a whole year? Whatever happened to rebounds? She was the one who broke up with him damn it, and that was hardly what she should've been focusing on getting over last year, like maybe the fact that her parents died should've taken more importance over her break up? Adele shakes her head at the thought.
"There's no saying that some of the guys won't still try to get with you." He's saying when she tunes back in.
"In their defense nobody was actually expecting you to get with Damon Salvatore. They knew you we're close but nobody really knew how close." Lucy tells her and she scoffs.
"Let's just hope that Damon's little claim worked for their sake." She says pushing the strap of her backpack higher on her shoulder. "He's not only possessive but he's also dangerous. Especially if he thinks what belongs to him is being threated or somehow taken away." Lucy and Caitlyn glance at each other, Adele sees, obviously questioning what dangerous meant but they knew she wasn't going to elaborate.
Across the hall Adele sees her sister at her own locker, she pries her eyes back towards her three friends noticing but not calling out the way Caitlyn and Jason have drifted towards each other, their shoulders brushing. So much for breaking up. She thinks silently before offering them all a parting smile. "Well it's been nice hearing 'I told you so'. I'll keep in mind to watch out for you guys when I'm in public from now on." She begins walking away.
"No you won't!" Lucy calls after her.
"You're going to forget because Damon is sexy as hell and we're going to be the official broadcasters of your relationship!" Caitlyn says making Adele laugh as she reaches her sister who turns to give her a confused once over because it was rare that Adele would approach her during school hours by her own free will but yet here she is, leaning against the locker next to hers like this was an everyday thing.
"You should probably stay away from the boarding house for a while." Adele says, confusing her that much more. First period hasn't even started yet and she already feels a headache coming on.
"Why?"
"Barbie Klaus has decided she's going to take residence in one of the many free rooms." Adele explains glancing at her phone like she's talking about the color of the sky.
"Rebekah is staying there now? Why?" She demands.
"She's stranded. Apparently Klaus left her in the dust after Damon name-dropped Mikael." Adele shrugs like the whole thing was no big deal when it was. It was huge! They didn't need Rebekah staying in Mystic Falls let alone the boarding house.
"Well what about Stefan?" Adele glances up from her phone, staring at Elena like the question was completely expected but dreaded all at once. "What is he up to?"
"Oh, you know Stefan." She grins. "Journaling, reading, shaping his hair."
"Damon said the exact same thing when I texted him. Come on, Adele. I can handle it." She insists but by the way Adele shakes her head, her eyes glazing over in doubt she knows that she's not going to tell her.
"No you can't." She says. "Believe me Elena. You don't want to know." Adele eyes the poster Caroline's hanging up across from them and makes a quick escape as it momentarily takes Elena's attention from her. Elena huffs out an annoyed breath when she realizes that Adele was now gone.
*VD*
She's back at her locker, having decided to throw her backpack in there and just keep her history book which is her first class. She's checking her phone when a jab to the side makes her shirk spinning around to face Michael's amused grin.
"Mikey." She breathes. "You came?"
"Yeah." He nods shoving his hands into the pockets of his jeans. "I can't put my whole life on hold any longer. I needed to come I mean this is senior year."
"Well yeah, I know but it's just…are you okay?" She closes her locker.
"I'm fine." He says and she turns to face him fully. "I mean it. I am. Having Jackie at the apartment's been good for me. Plus, I have you. I'll be okay."
"Alright, just be a good little vampire yes?" He tries really hard to look annoyed, he really does but he knows he's failed when she grins up at him.
She turns in the direction of Alaric's room finding her brother standing there but she doesn't bothering stopping and he falls in step to the right of her with Michael to the left. Jeremy nods to the older boy, he couldn't figure out if it was because he hasn't seen him in a while or if it was something else but there was something different about him. He shakes it off, focusing on his sister.
"Have you talked to Damon about…him?" Adele frowns up at Jeremy, obviously confused. He shifts his eyes over to Michael before looking back at her and she glances at the blonde next to her before sighing.
"He knows about the V word Jer. Spit it out." Jeremy gives himself only a moment to be surprised by this. He shouldn't be, considering his new girlfriend was a witch and all. Why wouldn't he know about vampires if he knew about that?
"Has Damon talked to Katherine about Mikael today?" Adele becomes visibly annoyed by the mention of her sister's doppelgänger.
"Why would he talk to Katherine about that? Why would he be talking to Katherine at all?" She asks and he furrows his brows at her. Damon hadn't told her? Oh my god, revenge is a bitch.
"Because she was the one who lead him to the idea of Mikael. That was the whole reason Damon went on that road trip. The reason they kidnapped me." Adele skids to a stop.
"Damon went on that road trip with Katherine? Why?" She demands.
"She asked him to I think. She wanted information from Anna about Mikael. She kidnapped me because she knew I could talk to her. Anna gave Katherine the location where to find him; she's supposed to be looking for him now. You didn't know any of this? Damon didn't tell you?"
"No, he didn't." She snaps rushing away from him. She's pissed, he can tell and of course the idea of her chewing Damon out gives him a sense of satisfaction. It serves him right for the concussion he gave him. He looks beside him to Michael. He's watching after his sister with a raised eyebrow.
"You going to go after her?" He asks to which the older boy snorts turning in the other direction.
"Hell no. One thing I don't miss about your sister is her temper and I'm happy to say it's not my problem anymore."
Jeremy laughs.
*VD*
She slams into the girl's bathroom making Caroline jump who was standing in front of the counter. She'd been trying to calm herself down from her small fight with Tyler but upon seeing her best friend and the state that she's in, shoulders tense, cheeks flushed, blue eyes slowing darkening and dancing in such a way that Caroline knew she wasn't just mad. She was livid.
"What's going on?" She asks but her best friend waves her off, her cell phone pressed to her ear before Caroline even knew she had it out. Caroline can't help but listen to the phone ring three times.
"Shouldn't you be learning Kitten or are you already missing me?" Damon's teasing voice comes through the line which just seems to fuel her anger even more.
"When we're you planning on telling me that your little road trip consisted of Katherine and kidnapping Jeremy?" She demands into the phone ignoring Caroline's look of understanding. She hadn't realized that Adele didn't know about that. Elena knew but then again why would Damon tell her that? Adele hates Katherine and Jeremy is her brother and he ran off with her and kidnapped him, two very good reasons for Adele to dump him.
"Damn it, Jeremy." Damon hisses.
"'Damn it, Jeremy.' That's all you have to say for yourself? When we're you planning on telling me Damon?"
"I wasn't." He says. "I knew how you'd react if I did, this was one thing I was hoping to keep you in the dark about."
"You didn't think I would find out that my boyfriend road off into the darkness with his ex and kidnapped my little brother and for what Damon? I know you didn't know about Mikael when you left with her. Katherine wouldn't tell you about him until she felt you we're far enough away from here because she's just a bitch like that. So what was it Damon? Huh?"
"In my defense, I didn't know about Jeremy. She popped open the trunk and there he was." Caroline has the urge to snort because that was the way to calm her down.
"Are you kidding me?" Adele practically shirks and Caroline realizing how serious this was becoming shoos the two juniors coming into the bathroom out and locks the door behind them. "What makes you think that makes this okay? What happened Damon? Did you get pissed because I wouldn't answer your calls? Did you get upset that I was mad at you so you took off with Katherine?" As if saying her name with such force would somehow get the point across that this wasn't okay.
"I do stupid things when I'm upset Adele, you know that."
"But Katherine?" Her voice has dropped, conflicting emotions flashing across her eyes which are slowly returning to their normal color of bright blue. Caroline stands by the door, watching her best friend lean against the counter, those blue eyes staring at the tiled floor. "You know how I feel about her. I don't trust her and the first thing you do when we get into one little fight is go running off with her?"
"If it was anyone else you wouldn't care half as much." He tells her, his own voice soft.
"But it wasn't anyone else Damon. It was Katherine." She hangs up, feeling like she wants to cry. Caroline steps forward, wanting to do something to help but knowing she probably can't because this was something that would have to be worked out between them.
"Are you okay?" She asks and Adele's head picks up, her eyes finding her.
"He…he ran off with Katherine." She says slowly. "And he couldn't even tell me."
"He was afraid." Caroline shrugs. "I would be to if I was him."
"Afraid of what? That I'd get mad?"
"Afraid you'd leave him." Adele blinks having not expected that answer. "He ran off with Katherine, who you don't like or trust which is bad by itself but she's also his ex, the only girl besides you who he's ever loved." Caroline points out and she doesn't say anything because yeah, that was the lingering thought she was trying hard to ignore. "It's a huge reason for any couple to break up."
*VD*
Adele walks into Alaric's room behind Caroline, her eyes roaming over Elena and Tyler. They look up at her as well, a tiny bit shocked to see her standing there. "What no Advanced Placement this year?" Tyler remarks to which Adele snorts.
"I decided to take the normal road this year. Lower my standards." She sasses.
"Well I know who I'm coping off of." He says causing a few chuckles around the room and she makes her way down a row, her eyes landing on Stefan, the surprise of seeing him quickly fading as she realizes she shouldn't be surprised.
"Let me guess," She says as he smirks up at her. "You compelled one of your little puppets to clean the floors for you."
"Why do it when I don't have to? I figured you wouldn't mind as long as there clean." She slaps her history book onto the desk in front of him. "And if she misses a spot, I'll buy the tooth brush myself."
"What you thought I was going to buy it?" She scoffs. "It was your mess." Stefan shakes his head as she takes a seat. He liked her, despite her mothering him, the back and forth was entertaining and she was the only one not judging him, not that he cared much about that anyways. Elena is watching them, a frown on her pretty lips.
"Welcome back, seniors." Alaric calls silencing the class, drawing everyone's attention to the front. "Let's turn our brains back on, starting with this country's original founders... the Native Americans."
"What about the Vikings?" A female voice thick with an English accent calls from the doorway of the room turning everyone's attention from Alaric. Adele has the urge to face palm at the sight of Rebekah.
"There's no evidence that Viking explorers actually settled in the United States." Alaric is explaining as the blonde takes a seat in front of Elena, beside Adele who barely sends a glance her way despite her sister, Caroline and Tyler openly gawking. "Who are you?"
"My name's Rebekah. I'm new and History is my favorite subject."
"Hmm, I wonder why?" Adele mutters sarcastically more to herself than anyone else; the only one's able to hear her being the vampires in the room causing Stefan to snort.
*VD*
"You seem quite popular, if I do say so myself." Adele slams her locker shut maybe a little bit more forcefully then needed before turning to the blonde original leaning against the locker next to her. Adele had just gotten finished assuring her attendance to the bonfire tonight to a couple of the cheerleaders, probably sent to her by Caroline to check up on her.
"So it would seem." She says her blue eyes narrowing in on Rebekah. "Comes naturally."
"It would suck if someone took that from you, wouldn't it?" Adele laughs, her hands moving into the back pocket of her jeans. Though she's probably an inch taller than the human, her heels are taller than her own making them the same height.
"If you're threatening my popularity, my life here in town, I should tell you that you might want to start looking for a new target. Like I said my popularity comes naturally. I never asked for it, I didn't work for it. Damon says it's because of my eyes, my mom used to say it was my smile and my dad told me it was personality. I personally think it's all of them combined. My ex says I'm privileged and I am I always have been. In other words, you aren't taking anything from me sweetheart."
Rebekah stares at her, her own blue eyes narrowed in thought before a smile laces her lips. "I like you. I do. You got…something about you that's just completely captivating. I'm actually quite jealous."
"You know your brother, Elijah, says that too that there's "something about me." It's quite annoying actually." Adele nods before she begins walking away, Rebekah catches up to her easily.
"It's probably the fact that you'd make one hell of a vampire, beautiful of course and dangerous, deadly actually. Very deadly. I suspect you could do some serious damage."
Adele ignores her, having much to say on the fact but nothing she's willing to. Instead she changes the topic. "Where is your brother by the way? That is one original that I actually wouldn't mind seeing."
"Daggered I'm sure." Rebekah answers and Adele slows to a stop causing the blonde original to turn back.
"And you're just okay with that?"
"There's nothing I can do about it. Niklaus has a temper and its best not provoke him with pity arguments that could lead to him daggering me as well. I like being alive, I'm come to like this generation." She walks off leaving Adele watching after her, shaking her head.
*VD*
She's jogging a head of Elena, who is glaring full force at her as she turns jogging backwards. "Come on, Elena. You need to keep up!" She calls.
"We've been at this for an hour without a break! I don't understand how you do this!" She can barely get the sentence out, her harsh breathing making it difficult for Adele to understand her. Once upon a time, she would've been able to keep up or at least she would've been able to breathe without it burning but her lack of excise in the last year has taken its toll on her.
"You wanted me to help Alaric train you, I'm trying to do that but you need to put a little more effort into this."
"I'm trying!" She exclaims. "I can't work miracles! It's not my fault you like working out in your free time. It's not my fault your crazy!"
"This is nothing Elena. I should call Justin; you want to talk about training? You wouldn't be able to move tomorrow."
"Adele…" Elena groans and Adele snorts turning back around.
"Survival of the fittest Elena!" She calls leaving her sister behind to go back to her glaring but when she turns back Elena is jogging the other way, Stefan right beside her jogging backwards and she stops for a moment to watch. Someone bumps shoulders with Elena stopping to apologize only for Stefan to shove him into the ground telling him to watch it and Adele lifts her eyes to the sky before taking off towards them hearing Elena exclaims a "Who are you?"
"I'm the guy who's been assigned to protect a human blood bag." Stefan is saying as Adele reaches them stopping beside Elena to stare up at Stefan in disbelief. "I mean no offense or anything." He says as an afterthought but Elena quickly turns around leaving the track. Stefan looks down at Adele with a look that tells her that he doesn't understand what he's done. She simply scoffs running after her sister. "What?" Stefan calls after them.
*VD*
The door to Alaric's apartment opens as Damon slips in quietly, finding Adele standing carelessly over Elena who is bench pressing some weights. What an amazing spotter she makes, standing there paying completely no attention what so ever to her sister, like the threat that Elena could drop the weights on herself isn't there at all but Damon realizes that she's probably paying a lot more attention than they realize. She seemed to do that and it doesn't go unnoticed by him her complete lack of acknowledgement to his arrival. It's a little discouraging. She's still very much upset with him.
"Are you going to bench press a vampire?" He asks as he's making his way over. Elena ignores him, focusing her complete attention on not dropping the bar on herself.
"She's ignoring everyone right now." Adele explains her voice stiff as she gives him a once over. "Stefan called her a human blood bag. She's pouting over the fact that he's a 'completely different person' now that he feels nothing at all for anyone or anything." Adele is mocking her and Elena has the urge to sit up and chuck the weights at her and just to make matters worse Damon appears above her wrapping a hand around the center of the bar and pressing down.
"Uh! What are you doing?" She groans out, the extra weight making it hard to even hold the bar let alone push it up.
"Helping you out." Damon smirks as Adele watches on.
"Damon!" Elena grunts.
"Come on Buffy." He chuckles.
"Stop it!" But he doesn't and she's forced to let her arms drop, letting him replace the bar to its rightful place.
"Like one obnoxious Salvatore isn't bad enough." She manages to get out as she's pushing herself into a sitting position, her muscles protesting the whole way.
"Why don't you take 5 Elena, go walk it off?" Adele finally says to which Elena sends her a look. She knows what she's doing. She's trying to get rid of her so she can conspire with Damon or make out with him, either way. "What? You've been complaining about the lack of breaks since we started so now I'm giving you one. Take it while you can Elena." She huffs pushing herself up. She snatches her water bottle from the table slamming the door on the way out.
"So," Damon starts with a smirk in her direction, taking note of her outfit. A pair of seriously short and tight dark grey yoga shorts and a tank top that shows a little too much skin for his comfort when she lifts her arms. If she was planning on running track every day after school with Elena, he was going to have to have a serious talk about her choice in clothing that is if she's ever going to talk to him without being completely pissed off. "You texted, I'm here." He picks up a stake with a brass handle. "What's your plan, oh warrior princess?" He swipes the stake through the air.
"We should lock Stefan up." She blurts out throwing her phone on the bench Elena had previously been on before moving towards him as he drops the stake back onto the table his eyes never leaving her. "At least until this Mikael guy comes and kills Klaus and the compulsion breaks."
"Compulsion or not, Stefan is still high on human blood. A lot of it." He tells her.
"You winged him off of it before Damon." She reminds him. "You can do it again."
"This is different. It's not a stint in rehab, Kitten. His humanity's gone. Lights out. No one's home."
"Then do it for Elena." He stops what he's about to say next. "Hell Damon, do it for me. I can see it. Every time she looks at him, the more it tears at her. She's going to break and then there's going to be no saving her because she's not going to care. At least if we lock him up, it'll give her enough hope to hold on to. That hope that there is a way to save him."
Her phone dings from the bench and she's turning, moving towards the device when he grabs her hand placing it flat against his chest and she turns back looking up at him, her blue eyes confused and annoyed. "What are you doing?"
"Feel that?" She doesn't answer because it's not like she hasn't touched him before and she would like to ignore the feeling as best as possible. "It's a sternum. Solid plate of bone." He whips her around, his body molding against hers from behind as her breathing becomes shallower, the temperature of the room rising. "Right here…" His own breath is hot against her ear and she suppresses a shudder cursing herself as his fingers slip under her tank top, pressing against the skin underneath her ribcage.
She's supposed to be mad at him damn it.
"Just below the ribcage, next to the spine, that is your way to a vampire's heart. That is what you teach her." She has a feeling this little show and tell has more to do with his desire to touch her, to will her anger away rather than teach her because he knows that she knows how to stake a vampire.
She's hoping he'll remove his fingers because there searing her skin and she'd rather not have this reaction to him at the moment. Everywhere they touched burned pleasantly making her feel out of control, wild even but he skims them around her back to her stomach where he flattens his hand pulling her back into him, holding her there with no intentions of letting her go.
"I'll do whatever you need me to do Kitten." His lips are brushing across the hollow of her neck and she's practically panting at this point. Part of her hates this, the reaction she has to his touch as simple as it may be even when she's so mad at him that she could slap him. Just the brush of his fingers or his lips can have her spiraling out of control no matter how hard she tries to pretend it doesn't affect her but another part of her loves it, thrives on the control he has over her because she knows that she has the same control over him. "But I'm doing it for you, only for you."
She turns her head ready to tell him that he's lying. That he's doing it for all of them, for her, Elena and Stefan but he captures her lips silencing her. Her train of thought is lost as he lets her go, letting her turn her arms snaking around his neck as he's hosting her up onto the table, knocking various vampire hunting weapons to the ground. So much for the little resistance she'd convinced herself she had.
There's a loud knock at the apartment door causing the two to pull away, Damon's hands stalling with her tank top pulled halfway up her stomach, her own hands loosening their grip on his shirt.
"Are you two decent?" Comes Elena's annoyed voice from the other side of the door and Adele's eyes close her head lolling forward onto Damon's shoulder. His hands drop from her tank top, straightening it out.
"Yeah." He calls though his voice is rough, thick with desire and he clears his throat, hoping to rid his voice of it. She pushes him away rather roughly and he stumbles back giving her the chance to slip off the table and away from him. Far enough away from him that she can be properly upset with him. This wasn't an issue he could just kiss away. Not this time.
*VD*
"Elena will lure Stefan away from the bonfire and then when he's distracted…" Adele is explaining to the small group gathered in Alaric's classroom. The group consisted of her, Alaric, Elena, Caroline and Damon who is currently sat on the counter by the windows with his head leaning back against the wall his eyes closed. He's running over ideas in his head, ideas on how to get Adele talking to him again because after explaining to Elena her plan and having her agree right away, Adele started ignoring him completely. She pretended like he wasn't even there.
"I'll shoot him." Alaric finishes for her and Adele nods at him.
"Can't Bonnie just ju-ju him or something?" He speaks up opening his eyes to regard the people in the room. His eyes stray and stick to Adele who has her back to him. It would be so much easier if Bonnie could do something, it would save a lot of time and he could spend that time begging for forgiveness because he has a feeling that is what he's going to have to do. Elena notices. She notices her sister ignoring him and she's notices the way he pouts at her though he eyes the open switch blade placed on the desk next to her, the one she's slowly inching her fingers towards.
"I'm trying to keep Bonnie out of this. I don't trust that Stefan won't hurt her." She speaks up from her spot near the desk. "Caroline, are you covered?"
"Yes!" Caroline is standing near the door and she sends them all a reassuring smile. "I will make sure that the old Forbes jail cell is prepped and ready."
"We're forgetting a key player here." He sits up watching as everyone turns to him, even Adele though her expression is guarded. "Rebekah? Wherever Stefan goes, the blond ponytail tends to follow."
"Which is why you and Adele have to keep her away." Elena tells them.
"How?" He glances at Adele. "Last time I checked, she's an original and we're out of daggers." And how were he and Adele supposed to do anything together when she wouldn't talk to him?
"If there's anyone in this group who's going to appeal to her the most it's either you or Adele so why not put you both together? It'll distract her better. Just charm her." Elena is saying to which Adele snorts a laugh.
"Look at the Kitten; it looks like you're going to have to talk to me now." He remarks just to have her react and react she does. He just barely catches the flying switch blade by the stainless steel blade as it's hurtling quickly towards his shoulder. It digs into his palm as he squeezes his hand around it as he turns his narrowed eyes to her. She's leaning back against the desk her arms crossed as she raises an eyebrow at him. The rest of the people in the room are looking on with wide eyes with the exception of Alaric who can't help but smirk. Damon drops the bloody blade to the counter, wiping his now healed hand on his jeans.
That was a little uncalled for if you ask him.
Tyler walks into the room drawing every one's attention away from the glaring couple.
"Sorry I'm late." He tells them. "What did I miss?"
"I'm going to need you to raid your mom's vervain supply." Adele says turning back around. "Enough to keep Stefan down for a while."
"You can't do that do Stefan." He says surprising them all.
"Why not?" Caroline asks.
"Trust me Tyler it's in everyone's best interest." Elena says.
"Yeah but it's not in Klaus's." He counters surprising them all even more and Adele takes notice to how this new turn of events peaks Damon's interest.
"But Klaus is the bad guy, Tyler." Caroline reminds him. "You know, why are you acting like some freaky, hybrid, slave minion?"
"Uh-oh." Damon slides off the counter.
"What?" Alaric and Adele ask turning to look at him.
"Klaus made me who I am Caroline. I owe him everything." Tyler is saying as if he hadn't heard Damon.
"Oh boy." Damon says again.
"Damon." Adele snaps as he's edging his way towards the desk. "Enough with the commentary okay? What is going on?" He picks up a vervain shot confusing her even more.
"I'm just going to go." Tyler turns making to walk out only for Damon is rush over and stab him in the neck with the shot. Everyone gasps as Tyler falls.
"What are you doing?" Caroline shirks as she drops down beside her boyfriend.
"He's been sired." Damon finally informs them.
"What?" Alaric asks.
"Sired. He feels loyal to Klaus because Klaus's blood created him." He explains as everyone looks down at Tyler.
"Loyal how?" Elena asks.
"He'll seek acceptance from his master. It's really rare but maybe not so much in hybrids."
"So…" Caroline looks back up to him. "How do I fix him?"
"Get a new boyfriend." He answers. Caroline opens her mouth to say something before closing it, looking rather confused.
"Okay, new plan." Adele sighs. "Caroline take Tyler home, raid his moms vervain supply and bring us enough of it. Alaric I need you to go to the old Forbes holding cell and get everything ready but you need to be quick about it. Damon and I will still distract Rebekah. I'll make it to the bleachers in time for Stefan to be distracted by Elena. I'll shoot him and Elena and I will drag him out to the back of the school, near the stoner pit where Alaric will meet us. Got it?"
*VD*
There waiting for the right moment when Rebekah is alone to make their move. Adele decides it isn't going to be too hard to distract her, if the need was even there at all. She'd been socializing all night, nowhere near Stefan. Nowhere even close to Stefan. She didn't seem to care so much about him at the moment.
"Are you just never going to talk to me again?" He breaths into her ear as he comes up behind her. She takes the outstretched cup from him chugging half its contents. She grimaces as she pulls it back. "Mm. I know. It's nasty but what do you expect with cheap beer?" Still nothing and he heaves a sigh taking a sip from his own cup. "You're going to have to talk to me. How are we going to properly distract Rebekah if you won't talk to me?"
Her fingers curl tighter around the strap of her backpack like she's physically restraining herself from saying or doing anything. For all he knows, she's restraining herself from slapping him upside the head with her back pack, which would actually hurt considering the size of the tranquilizer gun she's got stashed in it.
"Come on Adele, I'm sorry okay? I…"
"I'd really rather not talk about it right now Damon." She cuts him off and he has the urge to bang his head against the tree beside them. All she wants to do is focus on what she has to do. She didn't need to be distracted by her sudden relationship problems.
"Can you at least tell me if you're coming home tonight?" She doesn't answer at first, contemplating the question in her head. She has the urge to tell him that it isn't her home, it's his but the boarding house has become her home and not just since she's been with Damon. The boarding house became her home long before that. It became her home the first night she stayed there because it's where she felt safe. It's the house she thought of when she thought of home and yeah Damon himself has a lot to do with that and even as mad as she is at him, she doesn't want to go anywhere else. She wants to go home and home was at the boarding house with Damon but she didn't want Jeremy and Elena thinking she'd abandoned them.
"I don't know. Ask me later." She gets out as they spot Rebekah finally taking a seat on a bench in front of one of the fire pits with a stick with a marshmallow on it. They watch as she goes through marshmallow after marshmallow. She doesn't seem to understand the concept and Adele snorts deciding that it's time to move. In a show of being the perfect couple, Adele laces her fingers through Damon's pulling him in her direction.
He steps over the bench that she's sitting on taking a seat next to her as Adele rounds it taking her place upon his lap, her arm thrown carelessly over his shoulders as his wraps his own arm around her waist his hand placed on her upper thigh. Rebekah glances between them. "What?" She asks. "Can't find girls your own age?"
"Like your one to talk." Damon remarks with a smirk. Rebekah pulls her stick from the fire blowing out her marshmallow and pouting at it. She looks back at them, there watching her with the same amused smirk.
"This is supposed to be fun." She tells them. "I've been through ten of these."
"Nah, you're just looking at it all wrong." Adele says as Damon gently takes the stick from her.
"Mhm." He agrees. "It's a little rough on the outside." He pulls the crusted outside of the marshmallow off holding the stick back out to her and she takes it inspecting the marshmallow. "But on the inside…" She bites it off the stick as Damon holds his marshmallow coated finger up to Adele who gently sucks it into her mouth her eyes locking onto his. When she pulls away she smirks at his clouded over eyes.
"Yum." She mummers turning away to smirk in Rebekah's direction who is smirking back at her.
"It's good." She says and Adele nods.
"Yep."
*VD*
Somehow there small conversion went from roasting marshmallows to s'mores which Rebekah tells them she's ever had one. Adele's eyes follow Elena as she's storming away from Stefan and he follows her. She's leading him away from the bonfire and it's now time for Adele to go after them.
"I have to go find a bathroom." She says pouring the contents of her cup onto the ground in front of them. "I swear this stuff goes straight through me." She leaves Damon's lap as she picks up her bag that she threw down next to them. Damon is pouting up at her and she sends him an amorous smile. "Don't pout. Make the girl a s'more, I'll be right back."
She leaves them following the path that'll take her to the football field where she sees Elena standing at the top of the bleachers talking to Stefan and it's obvious that she's drunk or at least acting like she's drunk. She stops to unload the tranquilizer gun and make sure it's loaded as Elena decides to hang off the railing off the bleachers, pretending to slip here and there.
When she actually does slip, she lets out a loud frightened shirk and Adele is moving forward, the tranquilizer gun pointed in the right direction as Stefan catches Elena. His attention is so focused on her that he doesn't hear her come up behind him and he doesn't hear the release of the shot before it hits him and he jolts swaying slightly. Adele shoots him again for good measure and they watch as he falls unconscious.
"Are you okay?" Adele asks her sister who now that she can see her up close looks…sober.
"Yeah." Elena looks up at her. "I'm fine."
"You my sister…are an excellent actress." Adele smirks to which Elena has to crack a smile because if anyone was going to be able to tell that she was in fact not drunk, it'd be her.
"The plan worked." She points out. "Help me load him into the SUV."
"Right, yeah." Adele bends down and together they manage to lift him up, one arm thrown over each of their shoulders as they begin dragging him off towards the stoner pit. Half way there, Alaric shows up taking his dead weight from them and slinging him up over his shoulder.
When they reach Alaric's sliver Chevy Tahoe, Elena helps him unlatch the back of the SUV as Adele rounds the vehicle to the passenger side where she slips in quickly. Elena slides into the backseat soon after and she automatically looks back towards Stefan.
"Adele! Elena!" Alaric is calling from outside and she looks over. His expression is panicked and she frowns. Elena lets out a sudden, "Oh my god!" and with a startled cry from Adele, the tires of the Tahoe light up in flames. She immediately turns pulling at the handle of the door and pushing against it but it won't open. Alaric is beside her door with in seconds telling her to open it. "I can't!" She cries. "It won't open!" Quickly the hood catches fire and Adele's terrified eyes turn in that direction. "Alaric!" She cries beating against the door.
"Hold on! Just hold on!" He's calling but she can barely hear him over the roar of the growing fire. Elena is frantically beating against her own door behind her as Adele leans back in her seat lifting up her leg to kick her heel into the windshield but nothing, not even a crack as Alaric shows up beside her door once again with a Lacrosse stick. He tries breaking the window as well but it doesn't break and he moves to Elena's but still nothing and he's forced to jump back as the flames rise above the windows.
Adele's breathing is sharp and rapid as her chest begins to tighten panic and fear grabbing a hold of her with a vice like grip that just won't let go as Elena reaches forward trying to tell her that she needs to calm down but she can't hear her. She's hyperventilating, all she can hear are the flames, and all she can see is the fire.
Elena begins coughing and Adele's not far behind her, coughing between her sharp intakes of breath. She's slumping against her seat, her eyes glazing over as her vision begins to tunnel and she's not sure if it's from the smoke or her own panic, her own sickening fear.
Elena turns around with what little strength she has. "Stefan." She croaks out and the vampire blinks his eyes open looking around in a daze.
"Elena…" He whispers and he kicks the back door. It flies off hitting the ground with a loud crash and Elena turns back quickly to Adele. Her panic rises even more as she leans forward grabbing her sister by the arm. "Elena! Come on!" Alaric is calling from the back.
"Adele!" She calls back. "She passed out!"
"Come on! I got her!" He tells her and she leaves her sister crawling into the very back and sliding to the ground ungracefully as Alaric is crawling his way to the front. Elena is dragging Stefan from the back of the SUV as Alaric is half carrying half dragging Adele towards the back. As he's pulling her from the SUV, he can see Elena and Stefan are a safe distance away though Stefan looks ready to pass out again.
He starts his way over and he almost makes it before the vehicle explodes, the explosion throwing Alaric from his feet. He loses his hold on Adele as he's knocked into Elena and Stefan who catch him easily.
His picks himself up surprisingly unharmed, his eyes gazing around finding the unconscious blonde mere feet away from them. He rushes over to her, dropping down beside her. At first glance she looks unharmed but as he slips his hand under her head, getting ready to lift her up his fingers are coated in something warm and slick. He pulls it back.
"Oh god." He looks away from his blood coated fingers over to Elena and Stefan, his heart is beating frantically against his ribcage. This couldn't be happening. This wasn't happening. He wasn't going to let this happen, he wasn't going to lose this girl, this girl who's become something so much more to him then just his ex-wife's daughter. She was like his daughter damn it and he'd be damned if he lost her.
Elena is bent down to Stefan who looks to have passed out again; she hasn't seemed to notice them yet. "Elena!" He calls causing the brunette to look up. "Call Damon! Tell him we need him! Tell him we need him, now!"
*VD*
His fingers brush across the back of her head and she winces. Besides a sore spot and a headache, she was fine. She could add a few more mental scars though. Fire. Why did it always have to be fire? He does it again and she slaps his hand away. "Stop." She whines.
He studies her face, watching as she continues to wince as she pulls her hair back into a loose pony tail blood had stained parts of her hair –but mostly the back a bright crimson that was probably going to take a few showers to get rid of but at the moment she looks like she could care less as she sits on top of the counter in his bathroom.
After Elena's frantic phone call he was with them not even 5 seconds later forcefully shoving his blood down his little vixen's throat. He'd been so worked up over the simple phone call that he probably gave her more then she needed but it only took the words fire, Adele and bleeding to have him feeling have crazed with his need to get to her. Somewhere in the whole Alaric dragging her from the SUV and the explosion, she'd hit her head. With being unconscious and thrown through the air Damon thinks it was impossible to avoid. She'd hit the pavement hard, hard enough to crack her skull open and if he was just a minute late, she'd probably be dead which he shuts from his mind completely just the idea making him want to flip his humanity switch right then and there.
"What happened with Rebekah after I left?" She asks, her eyes lifting from the ground to look up at him, pulling him from the depth of his dark thoughts.
"Everything was fine until she skewered me." He tells her watching as her lips twitch as if she's fighting a smile. Yes, because his pain is funny to her. Despite almost dying on him, she still manages to be upset.
"You're still mad at me." He says to which she drops her eyes, biting at her bottom lip.
"You ready to go Adele?" They glance over to Alaric standing in the doorway of Damon's bathroom, eyeing the both of them. He decided that he wasn't leaving her here. Not tonight. She was coming home with them where he could make sure she wasn't going to die on him.
"Great work tonight. Sorry about the car, man. Bummer." Damon calls to him but he simply ignores him.
"I'll be down in a minute." Adele tells him and he nods leaving the room.
"He's mad at me." Damon sighs. "You're mad at me. I just…I can't win here."
"I'm not mad at you Damon." She says surprising him. "I feel betrayed. I feel like if you're so comfortable running off to god knows where with your ex then maybe this" she mentions between them. "Wasn't such a good idea. I don't want to get hurt Damon. Not again…"
"No, Adele." He steps forward, cupping her face in his hands. "Hurting you wasn't my intention. I want this, I want you. You know how I feel…"
"I know how I feel." She cuts him off, her blue eyes wide, glazed over with tears and vulnerable, something he's rarely ever seen and it causes his chest to tighten as he sucks in a breath. "I love you Damon. More than anything but I just…what does this really mean to you if it's so easy for you to just take off with her? I'm not Andie or some other random girl that's just here Damon. I'm not going to be one of those girls who sit around while you just don't care about us, while you go running off to other girls just because I said something that made you mad or we had a fight."
He feels like he could cry. For the first time in 146 years, he feels like he could cry over a girl but she isn't just some girl, she isn't Katherine. She's so much more then what Katherine was to him and she's questioning their relationship, she's questioning him because of a stupid mistake. God, why was he so stupid sometimes? Why couldn't he ever let a good thing just be, why did he always have to ruin it?
"Adele…" He leans forward, his forehead pressing against hers. "I love you. I've never loved Katherine the way I love you. I've never loved anyone the way I love you and it terrifies me. I can't lose you." He pulls away slightly, his eyes fixed on hers. His own blue eyes are vulnerable and incredibly bright with his own unshed tears. He should've known. He should've known that she wasn't actually mad at him. When she's upset, she becomes angry because she'd be damned if she let anyone see such a weakness but he wasn't just anyone. "Do you understand? It's not that I don't want to lose you," His blue eyes darken as if running through different scenarios in his head of all the ways he could possible lose her. "I can't lose you."
Her fingers run through his hair almost out of reflex and he closes his eyes as if the motion was the only thing keeping him from falling apart. "You're not going to lose me. I mean even if we didn't have what we do right now, I'd still be here. I've made myself very clear Damon. You're the only one that keeps me from falling apart. If it wasn't for you, I don't know what I would do. I love you and I don't think I could ever stop." Her lips meet his for half a second before she's pulling back only far enough to rest her forehead against his. "You're everything to me."
"Adele!" Alaric calls and she sighs picking her head up.
"I'm coming!" She yells slipping from the counter. Damon grabs her upper arm pulling her back to him.
"Don't go." He mutters and she looks up at him. "Stay."
"I can't." She whispers, though she wants to and he knows she does. "I promised him I would go home tonight. I think I scared him."
"You scared me."
"But you weren't there. You didn't have to watch the car go up in flames with there being nothing you could do about it. You didn't have to drag me from the car before it exploded and you didn't have to find me with a cracked skull. He did and I think I owe it to him to let him watch over me this one night." He knows she's right but he still doesn't want to let her go.
"Fine but if anything happens…"
"I'll call you." With that she slips from his grip leaving him standing in the bathroom with one last lingering glance as she turns the corner disappearing from his sight.
*VD*
Elena retreated into her room as soon as they got to the house but Adele is lingering in the kitchen her hands wrapped around a mug of hot chocolate. She didn't even want it but she'd use it as a way to warm up her hands. They we're freezing.
"You scared the hell out of me tonight." She jumps; the hot chocolate threatening to slip over as she turns in the direction of the hallway where Alaric is standing in the doorway.
"I'm sorry." She mumbles her eyes dropping to her mug.
"We have to do something about your fear Adele. It almost killed you tonight." He tells her moving into the kitchen to stand in front of her.
"I don't think there is anything we can do about it Ric." She confesses.
"Why is it so intense? What happened to you Adele?" That's right. He doesn't know the whole story. In fact, not many people do. Her sister doesn't even know what happened. All she knows is that they died, she doesn't know how. Jasmine knows because she was there and Michael knows because Jasmine told him. Damon knows because she was forced to tell him.
"My fiancé was killed in a fire. No, I'm sorry. He was killed during a fire but not by the fire. Hunters….human hunters that had been hunting Tony and the rest of them for years stormed our home. They killed everyone expect for Jasmine and me and they lit the house up in flames. I barely got out of there, if it wasn't for Tony I wouldn't have but he gave up his own life to save me. He made sure I'd make it out even if it killed him in the process and it did. As I was driving away the only thing I could see we're the flame. There was nothing left and even with the wall, the fire haunted me. When it was torn down, I had nightmares. I've never been more of afraid of anything in my entire life Ric, even spiders which I hate by the way." She explains softly, refusing to meet his eyes. She refuses to see the pity unfold in them.
"Adele…" He begins but clearly he's not sure what to say.
"It's fine Ric. You don't need to feel sorry for me. I've moved on." She says with a deep breath but Ric can see that it still haunts her. Their death was still an open wound that would probably never heal. "I know you're mad at him right now and I know you're worried about my relationship with him but Damon's been a big part in helping me. When I first met him, I had that wall up that blocked my emotions. I couldn't feel anything but yet Damon still managed to make me happy despite the wall. He's a douche, I know that but he's my douche and I think he really misses you."
"Well he should've thought of that when he killed me." Alaric says crossing his arms and Adele rolls her eyes because he such a stubborn man. She knows he misses him to. They are drinking buddies after all.
"It's okay if you want to be friends with him again." Adele tells him but he shakes his head.
"I don't." he insist and she nods slowly turning to dump the hot chocolate into the sink. She rinses the cup out and sets it in the dishwasher. She turns back around to find Alaric watching her.
"Whatever you say Ric." She begins her way out of the kitchen as Alaric shakes his head at her.
"Adele wait," She stops turning back as he walks up to her. He places his hands on her shoulders. "I mean it. You scared me tonight. Don't ever do it again." She nods and he wraps her in his arms tightly.
"I'm not going anywhere Ric. I promise."
*VD*
Adele runs a hand down over her eyes. Damn she was tired. She guesses almost dying can do that to a person, she should know. She's had enough experience. She had to wash her hair three times to get the blood out but now that she was out of the shower and dressed in a pair of boy shorts and a tank top all she wants to do is crawl into bed and sleep for a week.
Something catches her eye as she turns towards her dresser. One of the drawers are cracked open a shirt hanging out of it and there's something on top of it. She walks towards the wooden dresser, her eyes narrowing down at the diamond ring. With delicate fingers she picks it up, holding it out to look at it.
It's her engagement ring, which she had stashed safely in her jewelry box as to not lose it or ruin it in anyway.
What the hell was it doing out? Her eyes fall to the open drawer as she places the ring back down and picks up the white shirt up. She holds it up her breath catching in her throat. It's Tony's white V-neck. Why was this out? She turns her head towards the door. Was someone snooping in her room? But then again why would they? What would they want with her ring and Tony's shirt?
Something shatters near her bed and she spins around, her eyes wide.
She walks forward eyeing the shattered shot glass that had fallen from her bedside table. It was a shot glass she had gotten at a party back when she was dating Michael. She had won it, the how is still fuzzy but when she woke up it was there and she hasn't touched it since. Along with the shattered pieces of glass there is a picture face down from her wall of pictures.
Bending down she picks it up, brushing glass from it as she flips it over. It's a picture of her and them. William and Daniela are chatting amongst themselves at the end of the long table there sitting at while Jasmine, River and Scotty are pretending there walruses with their straws as she's reaching over the table to Scotty to yank at one of his straws, she's laughing and Tony is watching her, with an adoring smile.
She places the picture on top of her bed side table. Something wasn't right about this but she doesn't understand what it is. It couldn't be her brother or sister because they if we're snooping through her room, they would've put everything back in its rightful place. They weren't stupid and sure as hell don't want to be caught.
She blows it off. It's too late for her to be thinking so hard. Her head hurts and she just wants to go to sleep but as she crawls into bed, turns over, pulls the comforter up to her chin and closes her eyes she struck by the empty spot beside her. Opening her eyes, she glares at the spot. Did she really need Damon to help her sleep?
No. No damn it, she didn't.
She turns away from the spot but still there's that nagging thought that if he was here, she'd be a lot warmer. She realizes this is probably all in her head but still she flops onto her back. She has the urge to call him but no, she wasn't going to do that. She was just going to have to count sheep. God, She thinks to herself, I'm so pathetic.
