Okay, I'm not going to lie. This took forever to get out because I got stuck on it. I lost my way to say the least but I'm back on track now and things should go much smoother with the writing process from now on.
Though there is one concern. My laptop. The screen is cracked and the only way I can use it is if I hook it up to my TV which is just a big pain in the ass. When it first happened, I freaked out because I thought I'd just lost everything! But I remember that I could hook it up to my TV which is what I did just to finish this chapter and get it out to you guys. Now I have to get everything –Documents, pictures, music- off so I can get a new one.
I could just get the screen fixed but it would cost just as much if not more as it would for me to go get a cheap new one until I can save for a better one.
I'm hoping to do that this weekend.
Cross my fingers. :p
Anyways, thank you to all the people who reviewed last chapter. I'm sorry it took so long to update, I know I've kept you guys waiting an unfair amount of time. Just don't give up on me because you guys are amazing.
Disclaimer: I own nothing but my OC's.
Chapter 15: All My Children
Adele rolls over, slamming her hand onto her bedside table with a growl. She pulls her phone towards her glaring at the flashing screen with a burning hatred in her tired eyes. She thinks about ignoring it but she's already called three times and something tells her, she's not going to stop until she answers.
"What do you want Elena?" She snaps into the phone after accepting the call and she can hear her sister sigh on the other end.
"Have you tried calling Damon? He won't answer his phone and I need to talk to him. I need to talk you both actually." Elena is saying and Adele sits up running her fingers through her matted hair, her frustration levels growing at the mention of him.
"I don't know if you've noticed Elena but Damon and I are kind of on the outs at the moment." Adele hates the way her voice dips, displaying the emotion she's trying so hard to hide.
"Of course I have and I'm sorry Adele but you'll work through it, you have to. Have you tried calling him or not?" Elena insists on her question being answered and Adele's lips press together tightly.
"Yes, I tried calling him. I've tried calling him, I've left him voice mails, I've texted him, he won't answer, so I say screw him. He wants to be childish, let him." Adele hangs up, completely done with any kind of conversion that involves the vampire.
But her frustration roars through her veins and she finds his number in her list of contacts, pressing the call button and moving the phone up to her ear. It rings and rings and rings before hitting voicemail and she hangs up, turning the phone off with a loud groan and tossing it to the side. It lands with a thud onto her floor before she throws herself back.
Her eyes find her dresser and she knows if she were to get up and walk over there, the sketch she so wished would disappear overnight would still be there.
Upon arriving home last night, she'd walked into the room to find the sketch sitting on her bed along with the necklace she had just that night returned to Klaus. She had snatched the piece of sketch paper up so quick, intent on ripping it up and throwing it out that when she actually glanced at it, she almost dropped it.
It was such a realistic sketch of her that, she actually found herself a bit winded looking down at it. He got everything right, from the shape of her eyes and lips to the pattern of her freckles. She wasn't sure whether to be creeped out or flattered.
And no matter what she told herself, no matter how much she augured with herself that it was the right move she couldn't bring herself to throw it out let alone rip it up.
So she had thrown it onto her dresser where it had stayed the whole night and now that she was reminded of it, her frustration levels grow and she rolls over onto her stomach pulling the blanket up and over her head.
It's official.
She's not leaving her bed.
*VD*
Damon, I'm sorry okay? I didn't mean it and you know it. I love you. Just answer your phone. –Adele, 1:12am
Please tell me you're not doing this? Tell me you aren't really being this childish? –Adele, 2:34am
This is the last time I'm going to ask you to call me back or just answer the damn phone. After this, I'm done Damon. –Adele, 3:01am
Fine, you don't want to hear me out whatever. I just hope when you stop being a baby about this that I'll have anything to say to you. –Adele, 3:56am
Damon groans, he hadn't heard his phone ringing last night, he hadn't even heard it dinging with the incoming text message because maybe if he had, last night would have never happened.
He pockets the phone, deciding he'd call her back as soon as, "So, let's not make a big deal out of this." His frosted eyes move up to the blonde original's.
"My thoughts exactly." He mummers reaching for the doorknob as soon as they reach the front door.
"Besides, I expect you'll come calling soon enough." Rebekah's grin is smug in every sense of the word as she turns to look at the younger vampire standing next to her.
"Let's not hold our breath." His smirk is tight, more of a grimace then anything and his eyes which even she's be an idiot not to attempt are beautiful, they are exactly what had drew her to him last night, are haunted with guilt.
He yanks the front door open revealing to them Elena standing on the other side, brown eyes wide with disbelief.
Rebekah glances between the male vampire and his girlfriend's twin sister before shouldering past her quietly and disappearing into the morning.
Elena, who had barely spared a glance towards the original, steps forward, mouth opening and closing a few times. "Damon…" She finally gets out and his eyes close for a minute before reopening. "Please tell me you didn't."
He doesn't say anything at first, just stares at her. He could lie and save his ass but he's not sure how solid his lie would be. He'd basically been caught. What other reason would Rebekah have to be at the boarding house so early in the morning? "I could." His voice is a low mummer, eyes down cast to the floor.
"But you'd be lying. Obviously." Elena snaps, brown eyes narrowing into tiny silts. "How could you do this?"
"I don't know." Damon's voice is nothing but a whisper as he turns away from the front door, leaving it wide open with Elena standing there, gaping at his retreating back.
"What do you mean you don't know?" She yells rushing forward, through the front door and slamming it shut behind her.
"I don't know Elena!" He snaps, spinning around. His eyes are wild and she stops in her tracks. "I was mad, I was drunk, I was stupid! I wasn't thinking!"
"She's going to hate you." Elena's words are like a punch to the gut, they leave him winded and almost gasping for air. Elena watches his expression crumble and he turns his back to her once again but Elena could've sworn she saw the beginning signs of tears in his icy eyes.
She would feel sorry for him, if he wasn't such a bastard.
"What do you want Elena?" He asks once they enter the parlor. He moves over to make himself a drink as Elena wills her mind to move past what she had just seen, at least for the time being.
"Esther is planning on killing her entire family. She's linked them all together with a spell. Whatever happens to one happens to all of them." Elena states, feeling like a weight has been lifted from her shoulders, having carried this around since last night.
"Well, that's great!" And suddenly the weight returns full force and she frowns up at the vampire as he turns back to look at her, and he looks excited. "Klaus will finally be dead. We win. Why do you look like someone just shot a panda bear?"
"Uh, because to kill Klaus she has to kill all of them, including Elijah. And he doesn't deserve this!" Elena is saying as Damon gives her a look like he just doesn't understand what she's saying.
"I'm supposed to care about Elijah?" He questions and Elena wants to scream at him.
"Shouldn't you at least care about Rebekah?" She knows it's a bit of a low blow, but at this point she doesn't care. She's frustrated with him for not understanding. Damon's sharp eyes bore into her and she shifts her weight under its intensity.
"You can't tell her." He finally speaks and Elena's doe eyes widen.
"I'm not going to lie to her." She declares.
"No," He agrees. "But there should be no reason for it to come up. You can't tell her. I have to do it." Elena doesn't respond, she just turns ready to leave but Damon is suddenly blocking her path and she jumps back a step. "Don't do anything to screw this up, Elena." He snaps and she's not sure what he's actually talking about, Esther's plan or Damon's plan to try and salvage his relationship with Adele.
"Why are you doing this?" She whispers just as Stefan enters the room as well, glancing between the two.
"He's right, you know." The younger Salvatore says. "Klaus has to die. They all do."
"See?" Damon smirks down at her. "It's democracy in action." Elena glares at the brothers, almost unbelieving that not one of them is going to take her side. Almost groaning in frustration she pushes past Damon, knocking into his shoulder on the way out and Damon watches her, his smirk slipping away.
*VD*
"He did what?" Bonnie's tone is bordering on disbelief as she stares across the room at Elena who is pacing across the bedroom.
"Sh!" Elena snaps softly at the witch and Bonnie presses her lips together as she places the burning sage in the bowl and folds her hands in front of her. "She's in the shower but we need to be quiet." Bonnie nods, before she starts muttering under her breath. "He feels horrible, I know he does but he still…he cheated on her." Elena's head shakes, as if trying to make herself believe it even if she had basically caught him. "Is it working?" She finally calls.
The bedroom door opens and Caroline pokes her head in looking wildly irritated. They are trying to recreate the privacy spell Esther had used during her meeting with Elena last night. "No, it's not working." Caroline all but snaps. "And I'm going to kill him."
"I don't know; it's a tricky spell." Bonnie states glancing up at Elena who nods in understanding.
"When Esther did it, she kept the sage burning. There was a lot more smoke." She explains to her and Bonnie nods slowly before sighing.
"Alright." She relights the sage. "Try it again." Caroline scoffs closing the door with a soft slam. "Speaking of Esther, you should know that she came to see me and Abby this morning."
"What?" Elena is shocked as she turns back from pacing to look at Bonnie. "And all this time you've let me vent about Damon?"
"I don't want you to worry." Bonnie shrugs.
"Okay," Elena nods, accepting the answer. "Well what did she want?"
"She wanted to introduce herself." She glances down at the sage, making sure it was still burning. "Abby and I helped bring her back. She's channeling our entire ancestral bloodline for power. I think she thought she was being polite."
"Okay, well, is there a way to stop her from channeling you?" Elena questions softly.
Bonnie sends her a funny look. "Even if there was, why would I want that?"
Elena sighs, deciding to just get it out there. She's sick of carrying around this feeling of guilt. "I just keep thinking…. Before the sun and the moon ritual, Elijah found a way to keep me alive. And now I'm in exactly the same position and I'm just going to let him die? It just doesn't feel right."
The bedroom door opens and the two glance over to Caroline who stands in the doorway with an impatient look. "Okay. First of all, this privacy spell is totally not working." She says. "Second. Elena, you are not doing this, Esther is doing this."
"There's no time to change your mind, Elena." Bonnie informs causing Elena's eyes to snap back to her. "He'll be dead by the end of the night." Bonnie can see the question in her eyes. "It's a full moon. Esther needs to harness the energy of a celestial event. She asked me and Abby to join her."
*VD*
"Go away!" Adele's voice calls through the closed bedroom door. Caroline sighs, knocking again and listening to Adele inside the room shifting her weight in her bed. It had been almost an hour since they heard the shower turn off and Caroline had waited patiently in Elena's room with Bonnie and her for Adele to come out but she never did and Elena told them how she hasn't left her room since last night. "Go. Away!"
"Adele! Come on, open the door!" Caroline calls back waiting until her best friend decided to get up and unlock the door.
"No!" Caroline huffs in annoyance. "Just leave me alone Caroline."
"I'm not doing that. I'm going to sit out here until you open the door." She's met with silence at first before she hears the sound of shuffling feet and the lock turning on the door. She waits a few seconds before opening the door slowly.
The room is pitch dark, the blackout curtains pulled closed with all sources of light turned off or covered. She can just make out Adele's blonde head peeking out from under her black comforter and her cell phone lying discarded on the wood floor by the dresser by the small amount of light the hallway provides from the open door. "What are you doing?" Caroline questions as she closes the door bringing back the complete darkness.
"Sleeping." Adele answers. "Or at least trying."
Caroline scoffs, reaching over to slip the light switch up and Adele lets out a noise as the room is illuminated in light, baring herself deeper under the comforter. "You can't stay under there all day."
"Watch me." Comes Adele's muffled voice and Caroline rolls her eyes walking over to rip the comforter down and Adele groans pushing herself to sit up with a sigh. Caroline eyes her appearance from the messy bun she has her hair in, the oversized off the shoulder t-shirt and the dark circles under her eyes.
"Have you eaten? Have you even gotten a drink at all?" She asks, eyebrows rising in alarm when she realizes she hasn't.
"I'm not hungry." Adele's tone is flat and Caroline wants to slap her.
"You can't do this Adele! You're a new vampire! It's important that you keep yourself fed or you could attack someone, your self-control is still iffy." Caroline realizes she's yelling but she can't help it.
"I'm fine." Adele insists and Caroline squeaks in frustration.
"No, you're not fine,"
"Caroline." Adele snaps, eyes narrowed at her best friend.
"I'm sorry." She sighs. "I know you're upset, I shouldn't be yelling at you but you shouldn't be just lying here in the dark. I mean, I know you're upset and you're mad but this isn't you."
"It is for the mean time." Adele sighs falling back onto the bed. "I don't have the energy to try right now Care. Everything is just a huge mess and I'm tried."
"He's an ass." Caroline states before closing her mouth. It was hard not to tell Adele the truth. She has a right to know and Caroline feels horrible keeping something like this from her.
Adele eyes drift towards her abandoned phone before rolling towards the ceiling. "Yeah." She mutters.
*VD*
Damon enters the study, a glass filled halfway with blood in each hand eyes focusing on Stefan right away. "Join me for a victory drink?" He voices, letting his brother know he's there.
"Should wait until Klaus is dead." Stefan states eyeing his brother carefully. He seems in a rather good mood, considering the news Elena had given them on Klaus but he could only imagine the inner turmoil raging throughout him, if what he had heard and witnessed earlier about Damon's late night activities is true.
"Why are you so extra broody?" Damon pouts which goes completely ignored by his younger brother turns quickly into a smirk of approval. "Did you see the way we stood up to Elena? I like you on my team. Must have driven her nuts." He downs one of the glasses of blood still in his hands.
"You still think she's going to screw this up, don't you?" Stefan questions, narrowing his green eyes at Damon.
"I think somebody needs to talk to her. She's not going to listen to anything I say." Damon grumbles eyeing the now empty glass.
"Is it because of your little sleepover?" Stefan's question obviously catches him off guard as his eyes snap up staring at him with such an intensity that Stefan has to resist the urge to cringe, but he's mad. Mad at his brother for managing to fuck up the only good thing he'd ever made of his life in his relationship with Adele, so it's easy to push back. "You know Damon; at least I'm selfless enough to admit that I'm not good enough for Elena." Stefan shakes his head, his green eyes full of disappointment. "And it's been clear to everyone that Adele is too good for you."
Damon's eyes which are burning with anger and some form of self-loathing bore into Stefan for a few minutes longer before his lips press tight together and he places the second glass of blood on a table before leaving and Stefan is left to watch him go before he eyes the blood and with the tiny sherd of self-control he's been able to master in the last couple weeks he turns his back to it.

A knock on the front door surprises Elena, as she wasn't expecting any type of company. She peeks her head out of her bedroom door glancing across the hall to Adele's door. It didn't look like she was going to come out any time soon. She purses her lips, moving out of the room.
Whoever it is knocks again and she calls out an "I'm coming" as she descends the stairs. With lazy movements, she pulls the door open half expecting to see Damon or Caroline again but jolting in surprise when it turns out to actually be Elijah.
"Elena." Elijah says her name like he's glad she was the one to answer the door and Elena's eyes dart over his shoulder watching for anything else out of the ordinary. Like Rebekah waiting at the end of the driveway to kill her.
"Elijah..." She retorts when she comes up with nothing else to say. Sometimes she wishes she had the same ability to be as sarcastic as her sister.
"I don't mean to intrude." Elijah's own eyes glance over her shoulder, to peek deeper into the house, possibly looking for her twin. "I was hoping you might accompany me. I want to show you something." And Elena swallows glancing towards the stairs behind her, and noticing her weary expression Elijah sends her his most comforting smile. "It sounds like she's sleeping. We don't need to bother her; this will only take a short while."
*VD*
The house is completely empty from what she can gather upon listening for any type of movement or any type of heartbeats and she's not surprised but she is thankful as she makes it to the bottom of the stairs.
She's hungry and she realizes that making a sandwich isn't going to work but she's be damned if she didn't try so she flips on the light in the kitchen as she makes her way in.
She left her phone upstairs so she flips on the radio letting the music fill the empty house as she opens the fridge, pulling out the lunch meat, cheese and mayo and throwing them on the island.
She grabs a butter knife from the dishwasher closing it as a throat clears behind her and she stands up straight, blue eyes narrowing.
"So funny story..." Her lips curl into a snarl and she whips around the butter knife leaving her fingers before she can stop herself and Damon grunts as the dull knife embeds itself in his shoulder.
Her mouth drops open and she places a hand over it as she watches him bend at the waist with a long drawn out breath. "I'm sorry." She breathes rushing over to his side. "I didn't...I don't know why..."
"It's okay." He grunts pulling the knife from his shoulder. "I deserve that." He lets the knife roll from his fingers and clash against the island as he stands up straight. "Feel better?"
Any amount of guilt vanishes as she reaches out slapping her hand against his chest and he groans again. "No!" She snaps. "I don't."
"Okay. I deserve that. I deserve anything you can throw at me." She straightens up, narrowing her blue eyes at him. "I was wrong." And she scoffs turning her back to him to walk away. "I brought you something." She stops out of curiosity. "Caroline texted me."
She turns back around arms crossing over her chest as she eyes the blood bag in his right hand. "Well, it's nice to know your phone is working."
Damon's smirk is full of guilt as he holds out the blood bag to her and she eyes it for a second before snatching it away from him. "What do you want?" She demands turning away to grab scissors from one of the drawers, anything to keep her from ripping into the blood bag and devouring it in seconds because that won't help curb her appetite any.
"We need your help." He states watching her closely as she sips from the bag. "Something happened."
"Oh really?" She laughs. "You don't say. Let me guess...it has something to do with the originals...maybe even Elena..." His brows furrow as he watches her lean against the kitchen counter. "Oh, I got it. Elena's been kidnapped and we have to save her. How'd I do?"
"Smart as always." He smirks as she finishes the blood bag with one final squeeze. "Elijah took her." This grabs her attention and her sharp blue eyes bore into him. "Rebekah is holding her down in the underground cavern until we can figure out how to stop the original witch from killing them and if we can't Rebekah is going to kill her."
"And I'm guessing you have a plan, I'm guessing you wouldn't be here if you didn't." She scowls and he flinches.
"We do. We can dagger Kol. When one goes down they all go down. The originals are taken care of, Esther is happy and we get Elena back alive. Everybody wins." He explains.
"Only problem is vampires can't use the daggers." She says to which he nods stepping closer but not willing to stand in front of her.
"Alaric has volunteered. Kol is at The Grill with Klaus, so all we need you to do is distract Klaus long enough for us to dagger Kol." He smiles like the whole thing was so simple and she glares.
"Damon..." She hisses and he throws his hands up, finally his frustration shining through.
"I know." He snaps. "I'm not happy about it either but you're the only one capable of distracting him long enough for this to actually work." He pauses, teeth grinding together as he takes a deep calming breath. "As hard as it is for me to attempt, Klaus has a thing for you and I know now that I've been being irrational about this whole thing, I know that you'd never leave me for Klaus but I was Jealous and I let that jealousy cloud my judgement of everything but most importantly of you. I'm sorry and the reason I couldn't answer the phone or text you back last night is because I was too ashamed of my actions and I'm sorry about that too but we need your help now. You're the only one who can do this."
She eyes the floor, lips pressed tight together as she moves over everything he said. "Fine but I'm not doing this for you. I'm doing it for Elena." She pushes from the counter, moving towards the hallway past him.
With sudden movements and before she can stop him, he grips her arm, whipping her back around and she's about to protest, about to push him away but he puts a hand at the back of her neck and presses his lips to hers and she can't. She melts into him fingers curling into his shirt before she pushes him away with a whimper. "No." She snaps, breathless. "No." She repeats, swallowing as she whips around jogging up the stairs and he hears her bedroom door slam.
*VD*
She slips into The Grill just before the door closes, hands firmly placed in the pockets of her leather jacket and coming into the main lounge of The Grill, she can see Alaric on one end. He's on the phone and when she listens in; she can just hear his conversion.
"Yeah," He saying. "They're still here. They've drank their way through half The Grill's liquor supply."
"Good." It's Damon voice that breaks through the other line, Damon he's obviously talking to. "It'll be easier if they're wasted."
"So, what's the plan?" Alaric asks still watching the two original brothers at the bar that she can see from her standing place but they have yet to notice her.
"Divide and conquer." Damon states simply. "First, we need a little blonde distraction." And that's her cue. She places one foot shoved into expensive designer boots in front of the other and makes her way towards the two, making it seem like she is simply there and not purposely seeking them out. Her eyes meet Alaric's across The Grill only briefly as he hangs up the phone.
"I remember her from last night." She's been spotted. Kol notices her almost right away. "She looks like a tasty little thing." She resist the urge to visibly cringe. If he came anywhere near her, she'd rip out his spine.
"Say another word and I'll tear out your liver." And she's be lying if she said Klaus threatening someone for her, isn't the least bit sweet. "Adele!" Her blue eyes flash to them and she makes sure to seem a bit surprised by their presence.
"Oh." She stops walking when she's in front of them. "It's you." Her tone is bored and distasteful, her expression almost matching.
"Join us for a drink?" Klaus's English accent making the offer that much more appealing because she actually does want a drink. A strong one at that.
"Mm," She hums softly, lifting her eyes towards the ceiling as if in deep thought before letting out a smirk full of nothing but sarcasm. "I'd rather die of thirst but thanks." She turns and begins to quickly retreat.
"Isn't she stunning?" She can hear Klaus from behind her to which she rolls her blue eyes.
"She certainly looks good walking away from you." Is Kol's response and she almost wants to laugh at it, but reminds herself that she's strictly here for one purpose only and that's to distract Klaus from Kol, she couldn't blow her cover now by letting them hear her laughing.
And like she knew he would, Klaus takes the bait. She can hear his bar stool scraping against the floor as he stands. "I'll take that as a challenge."
*VD*
"Adele!" She can hear him calling after her as she's speeding down the side walk, further away from the grill and into Town Square.
"Oh my god." She finally snaps, spinning around. He skids to a stop a few steps away from her. "Take a damn hint."
"I think we should talk." Klaus says and she rolls her eyes.
"We have talked. I'm done talking with you. You and your expensive jewelry and romantic drawings can leave me alone." She yells but he's shaking his head causing her to fall silent.
"No, I mean talk. Last night you said that I don't connect with people because I don't try to understand them." She's staring at him. She remembers what she told him and she remembers his non-reaction to it. She didn't think for a second that he'd actually stop to consider what she says or try to act upon it. "So...I want to. I want to try and understand someone."
"Okay." She responds but her voice is shaky. "Why me?"
"Why not you? You already know how much I fancy you." He takes a seat on the bench beside them and Adele eyes the seat next to him before eyeing the street around them. Nobody was around which was a bit eerie and she swallows.
"I don't think..."
"Oh come on." He cuts her off. "Take a chance, Adele. Get to know me, let me get to know you. I dare you." She chews on the inside of her lip as she stares at him with wide eyes before slowly nodding because with nothing else to do, she's left with the only option being to take the seat next to him.
"Alright..." She sighs. "What do you want to talk about?"
"You." He answers softly, blue eyes as soft as she's ever seen them. "I want to know your hopes, your dreams, everything you want in life."
"Just so I'm clear and you completely understand..." She begins, glaring slightly. "I'm way too smart to be seduced by you."
"And that Firebird is why I like you."
*VD*
She's not sure exactly how long they've sat there just talking and actually talking too. She's told him about her parents and about growing up with a sister like Elena and he's told her a little more about what it was like growing up 1000 years ago and she hates herself for even thinking that it was actually enjoyable. That she actually liked talking to him.
He's in the middle of a story, something about swords and a river when he stops, a sort of pained expression crossing his features as his hand moves up to his heart and she turns more fully to him, reaching out a hand to touch his arm her own expression morphing into one of concern. "Klaus...What is it?" He stands, whirling around to look down at her with accusing eyes.
"What did you do?" She stares up at him, brows furrowing in confusion as she shake she head.
"I didn't do anything, what's wrong?" She asks again and she gasps in surprise when he surges forward grabbing her by her upper arms and yanking her up, shaking her almost violently.
"What did you do?" He demands and she drops her expression lips pressing tight together as she just stares back at him and he practically shoves her away, turning back towards The Grill. "Kol." He whispers and she watches him take off in a normal paced run towards the restaurant.
"Damn it." She mutters when guilt courses through her and she rushes forward, catching him by the arm. "Klaus," The hybrid stops, turning his head back to look at her. "I'm sorry." She whispers and he only shrugs her off, speeding away from her and she closes her eyes for a brief moment before following.
She finds them in an ally, Kol is recovering against a nearby wall while both Stefan and Alaric are knocked unconscious and Klaus is in a standoff with Damon, who spots her on the top of the steps that lead down into the alley behind The Grill. "I should've killed you months ago." Klaus is saying and Damon looks away from her to shrug at him.
"Do it. It's not going to stop Esther from killing you." He taunts and Adele shakes her head at him.
"What did you say about my mother?" Klaus's tone is venomous and downright hateful.
"He's right Klaus." She speaks up, moving down a few steps into the ally as Klaus glances back at her. "Esther has a plan to kill you and all your siblings. Tonight."
"Mm." Damon hums causing Klaus's attention to return to him. "Yeah, you didn't know I was friends with your mummy? We have a lot in common. She hates you as much as I do." Klaus growls, moving with swift speed towards Damon and Adele curses moving just as swiftly, putting herself firmly in front of him, pressing herself back into his chest when Klaus's fist almost connects to her jaw line before he can stop it. He growls again, demanding she move but she stands her ground and he looks ready to lunge.
"Leave them!" A voice commands from the top of the steps, Elijah's voice and she sags in relief, melting back into Damon's chest with a breath of relief. "We still need them, Niklaus."
"What did Mother do?" Klaus asks and when Elijah hesitates to answer, he gets that much more frustrated. "What did she do, Elijah?"
Elijah moves down the steps, coming to stand next to his brother as he holds up a cell phone. "You tell me where the witches are or I'll have my sister kill Elena right now."
Both Damon and Adele look towards the clock tower. "You told me we had until after nine." Damon reminds him but Elijah merely raises an eyebrow.
"I'm sure Rebekah would be more tha sure Rebekah would be more then happy to start her work early."
"We'll take care of it." Adele speaks up looking away from the clock tower to Elijah. "You gave us until after nine, so we'll take care of it in time, no more funny business, no more secret plans."
"You have until 9:06." Elijah reminds them after taking Adele's words into consideration and Adele nods, before turning and pushing Damon further into the Ally, telling him to go.
*VD*
"You've got to be kidding me." She mutters to herself, flashing her phone light towards the very far corners of the dark tunnels. She didn't like coming down to the tunnels, especially after Alaric's bat comment.
After escaping the ally way and meeting up with Stefan at the door of The Grill, they decided to split up. The brothers would go to the abandon witch house after Bonnie and her mom, while Adele would head down into the tunnels to try and track down Elena and Rebekah before nine just in case something went wrong.
"I need a vacation." She mutters, stepping past rocks shining the light down the empty dank tunnel. "No evil hybrids, no damsel in distress sisters and no freaking jealous Damon's."
"Elena!" She stops, one foot in front of the other and picks up her head, eyes searching the area around her. "Let's pick this up where we left off." Rebekah is taunting her sister but from which direction she's not sure, the echoing of the tunnels making it impossible to tell.
"Okay..." She whispers. "If I was Elena, what would I do?" She asks herself before scoffing. At some point in time Rebekah must have died with Kol, She reasons with herself. If Elena was smart, she'd run but where?
The cave.
The vampire proof cave.
She speeds off, through the tunnels in the direction she remembers the cave being.
"What are you doing?" She can hear her sister's shrill shrieking as she gets closer.
"Thought, I'd shake things up a bit." Is Rebekah's response and Elena yells asking if she's insane. "I prefer spontaneous." Is her answer. "It's probably why Damon likes me so much." And Adele stops dead, just a tunnel away from the cave. Something crashes but Adele is too frozen to be fazed. "Here's what's going to happen." She hears Rebekah and she finally moves, creeping forward slowly. "You're going to come outside or you're going to stay in there and burn." Adele can hear the sounds of a fire, can practically feel its heat and she shivers resisting the urge to flee in the other direction. "The next match is landing on you. So, Elena, how does it feel to know that these may be your last moments?"
"I don't know, you tell me. You're the one whose mother is trying to kill you." Elena sneers and Adele can just imagine Rebekah's glare.
"I'd be very careful what you say to me." She warns tone nasty and spiteful.
"You're still wearing her necklace." Elena points out as Adele makes it up to the Cave but she stays hidden behind one of the tunnel walls, peering around to get a look at what's going on.
"Do you want it? Is that your last request?" Rebekah rips it off, throwing the silver necklace into the cave where Elena is standing away from Rebekah's grasps. "There. It's all yours."
"She's not doing this because she hates you, Rebekah." Elena sighs. "She told me that she… she just doesn't have another choice."
"Spare me your pity, Elena." Rebekah snaps. "We're not girlfriends. Want me to prove it?" Rebekah lights a match holding it up, admiring it. "Just say the word."
"You're not going to do it." Elena says and Adele's ready to intervene at any moment.
"And why is that?" Rebekah asks, sounding almost bored.
"Because there's still a chance that you might be alive tomorrow. And if that's the case and you kill me now, you'll have used up all of your revenge. Wasted it and isn't that what you want? Revenge? Because I- I pretended to like you and then I stuck a dagger in your back." Elena pauses to take a deep breath and Adele ready's herself to move, maybe she could sneak up on her, snap her neck and give them the chance to get the hell out of these damn tunnels. "I mean, that's why you slept with Damon, isn't it?"
*VD*
"What are you doing here?" Rebekah snarls, turning away from Elena to regard Adele who took to leaning against the tunnel wall behind Rebekah and Elena's eyes widen at the sight of her.
"Who me?" Adele points to herself. "Oh you know, just in the neighborhood thought I'd stop by, say hello, see how everything is going." Adele raises an eyebrow. "So...How's everything going?"
"Cut the act." Rebekah snaps. "What are you really doing here?"
"Really?" Adele asks pushing off the wall. "You really have to ask or have you forgotten that the girl you and your brother kidnapped is my sister. What do you think I'm doing here? Just proving all vampire stereotypes right and enjoying the dark, dank environment?"
"You're not getting your sister back until the brothers take care of their end of the deal, so you can leave." Rebekah informs her and Adele rolls her blue eyes.
"Let's be real here, I'm not going anywhere so you can either shut up and go back to your guard dog position or I can break your nose again, your choice." Adele shrugs and watches Rebekah glare.
"If the Salvatore's don't make good on their end of the deal, I will kill her." Rebekah threatens and Adele laughs.
"No you won't. You'll have a few seconds at most before you kneel over, you won't even be able to raise a finger before I rip your arm off." Adele smiles, a surgery sweet smile that makes Rebekah's glare harden.
"Adele..." She moves her blue eyes past Rebekah to Elena who is standing close to the doorway of the cave. "How long have you been here?"
And before she answers she turns her gaze back to Rebekah, looking the original up and down before scoffing. "Long enough." She mutters.
"Adele..." Elena swallows. "I...I didn't know you were there...I..."
"Drop it." She snaps. "It doesn't matter right now."
Rebekah laughs as Adele moves back to her wall, leaning against it once more. "I'm sorry. It's just funny, you once told me I wouldn't take anything from you but I guess that's not true right? It's okay," Rebekah's smile is mocking and Adele's stare is unimpressed. "I know what it feels like to be second best, it's not very pleasant is it?"
Adele tilts her head, opening her mouth only to close it again to take a deep steadying breath. She pinches the bridge of her nose, shaking her head before glancing back up to Rebekah. "You don't actually think you've won here?" She asks. "So you slept with my boyfriend, okay. Let's just think about this. Damon and I had a fight last night, so he was distressed about that and when he's distressed about something he drinks and when he drinks he tends to do something he doesn't mean and regrets right after it happens. So that you don't have any actually think that you've somehow won something against me, you were a mistake to him. Nothing more than a drunken one night stand that he doesn't care about, at all."
Rebekah's expression darkens and Elena's heart beat skips as she realizes that Rebekah could lunge at her sister at any time and though Adele is strong, she isn't strong enough to take on an original and Elena watches her sister straighten up, as if preparing herself for a fight but much to Elena's sudden relief, Rebekah's phone rings distracting the original. She glares at Adele before walking off to answer the call.
"Adele," Elena sighs out once Rebekah is fully gone.
"Don't." Adele bites out, arms crossing as she goes back to leaning against the wall.
"I'm sorry." Elena says anyways. "I didn't mean for you to find out like this. Damon said he was going to tell you so I wanted to give him a chance but..."
"Elena!" The brunette jumps at her sister's sudden shout. "I said don't!" And Elena swallows nodding slowly.
They stand in silence, Adele completely absorbed in their own thoughts while waiting for Rebekah to get back and Elena watching her closely. Her expression is hard, unreadable and her posture is stiff, matching her expression as her eyes darken a degree but Elena knows her sister well enough to know the sighs of a silent storm brewing itself up inside her. If she had a phone this would be the time where she starts to text people, warning them to stay away.
Rebekah returns, smirk in place as she pockets her phone. "You can come out now." She tells the brunette. "Seems your boys took care of the problem."
"How did they do that?" Elena asks, shocked and slightly disappointed.
"Damon turned your witch friend's mother into a vampire." Rebekah answers as casual as if she was talking about the weather and Elena feels like someone just punched her in the gut as she mutters a simple "What?" as her eyes fall to Adele, who doesn't look the least bit fazed.
"Quite clever, actually." Rebekah remarks. "They needed to sever the witch line and, well, you can't be a witch and a vampire. In any case, you're free to go" She explains before plastering on a cruel grin. "Oh and, uh, by the way, you were right. I do prefer taking my time watching you suffer. Much more satisfying."
*VD*
He's washing his hands, washing the blood from them when he hears Stefan entering the room, to stand in the middle. "Is she safe?" He calls out turning as he turns the water off. Stefan is nodding as Damon dries his hands and moves out of the bathroom.
"Elijah kept his word." He tells. "Rebekah let her go."
"Good." He says, pouring himself a drink. "All's right in the world again."
"I lost that coin toss Damon." Stefan says, it's been on his mind since it happened. He loss the coin toss between the two to decide who would turn Abby Bennet into a vampire yet Damon had done it anyways. "It should have been me who turned Abby. Why did you do it?"
Damon doesn't answer at first; he takes a small sip from his glass. "Cause I'm not blind." He sighs. "I see what's been going on around here. You're hanging by a thread, Stefan. Barely over your last ripper binge and all you want is to be the old Stefan again." He explains.
Stefan shakes his head. "That part of me is gone for good."
"Oh yeah? How long has it been since you've have a drop of human blood?" Damon questions much to Stefan's surprise. He didn't think his brother was paying much attention to his feeding habits as of late.
"How'd you know?"
"Spend 146 years with someone, you kind of start to pick up on their tails." Damon attempts. "Answer the question. How long has it been since your last drink?"
"Since the night I threatened to drive Elena off the Wickery Bridge." He tells and Damon nods, having suspected as much.
"See? You have enough to feel guilty about! Why add to the list?" Damon shrugs, chugging his glass before refilling it. "By the way, you're welcome." Stefan's about to say something more before he catches sight of the blonde standing at the door. Damon turns, spotting her as well and Stefan quickly excuses himself moving past them both.
"Hey." Damon breaths, surprised to see her. She doesn't say anything, just looks around the room before moving in, she takes the glass from his hand and moves towards the bed still silent and Damon's not sure what's going through her head at the moment though she must've heard what happened. "About what happened...with Abby...I had to do it." He begins as she takes a sip from the glass, he's about to continue when he suddenly has to duck, the glass smashing against the wall behind him. "Adele..." He mutters shocked as his heart pounds as he moves closer to her.
"I trusted you!" She yells and his brows furrow in confusion as he watches her, her chest heaving and her fist clenched.
He opens his mouth only to close it when he can't think of what to say. He doesn't understand what's happening. "Adele, what..."
"You slept with Rebekah!" She blurts out and he suddenly feels like throwing up as he freezes. How the hell did she know that?
"Shit..." He breaths and she laughs a cold, sarcastic laugh. Who told her? He'd kill whoever it was. He needed to be the one to tell her.
"Shit? That's all you have to say?" She exclaims voice high pitched.
"You...Just clam down, okay and we can talk about this, I will explain and..." He holds a hand out, as if to warn her off as she looks ready to attack him at any given chance.
"Explain? Of yes, please Damon, explain because I don't understand!" She stops, spine straightening as stares at him. "Oh my god." She whispers, all fight seeming to have fled as her bottom lip trembles. "That's why you we're ignoring my calls last night? Isn't it?"
He doesn't want to answer that, he doesn't want to tell her the truth but he knows lying would be worse at this point and he swallows before nodding. "But Adele..."
"Oh my god!" She cries, fingers moving up to tangle in her hair. "Oh my god, oh my god!"
"Adele, I'm sorry, I..." He tries but with her fingers still tangled in her hair, she moves her hands down to cover her ears, eyes screwed shut.
"No!" She shouts. "No, damn it stop! Please!" Her breathing is harsh, now rattled with tears as she shakes her head back and forth. "Oh god, I feel sick." He moves forward, reaching a hand out to touch her shoulder but she shoots back, eyes popping open to glare at him. "Don't touch me!" She snaps.
"Kitten...I'm sorr-" He begins but she cuts him off with a shove that has him stumbling backwards.
"I don't want your "sorry," I don't want your "it didn't mean anything," I want to know why." She demands. "Just tell me why. Why would you do this to me Damon? I thought you loved me?"
"I do love you." He insist.
"Then why?" She shouts, her stomach twisting and her chest tightening. "Why would you do this? Because I said one thing I didn't mean? Because of Klaus? Why?"
"I don't know!" He finally shouts back. "I don't know! I was mad, I needed a distraction and I was drunk and she was there! She was there and she kissed me and I couldn't stop it. Everything in me told me to stop, to push her away but I couldn't, I'm a fucking horrible person but it was a mistake, today, I couldn't even look at her, look at myself."
Her heart races as she tries hard to suck in any kind of air as her head spins, she feels like oxygen has been sucked from the room and she's terrified and she knows what this is, she knows the tall tale signs of a panic attack. "I can't." She wheezes. "I can't do this. I have to get out of here."
She flees the room, with Damon's voice yelling after her but it sounds faint as she takes the stairs two at a time and crashing head on with Stefan at the bottom who grips her by the arms and forces her to look at him though he's blurred by her tears.
"Adele," His voice is soft. "You need to calm down, okay?" Her head shakes and he squeezes her arms softly. "Sh, just breath. Adele, breath." And she does, she sucks in a breath of air before letting it out in a sob and Stefan sighs, pulling her into a hug as he glares over her shoulder at Damon, standing at the top of the stairs.
When she calms down enough, he pulls away and before he can say anything she's ducking around him and running out of the front door, leaving the two brothers to stare after her.
Well, there it is.
...
So, I know Adele's emotions seem to be all over the place there at the end but she's still a new vampire, so I feel like that's how she would react. She wouldn't exactly know how to react and we know from the past that Adele has a history of panic attacks and I just feel like trying to process so many different emotions there at the end would cause Adele to slip into one.
That's just what I think. Lol.
I hope you enjoyed and please leave a review, let me know what you're thinking. I like the amount of reviews I've been getting. Lol. Let's keep that up.
