Chapter 19: Heart of Darkness

"How is he today?" She asks kicking a rock across the porch as she directs her eyes to the blue sky, phone pressed lightly to her ear. Jasmine sighs on the other end of the line.

"He's doing okay. Slowly getting better." She says. "It's hard though watching him have to go through this. Did you know he's been friends with Justin since they we're babies? Their parents we're friends, practically family. They we're more or less brothers."

"I did." Adele tells her. "Justin told me a while back how they met. Told me a lot about their friendship."

"It just sucks." Jasmine snaps out, more forceful then she probably intended. "James needs to die or we need to stop him or something. This just isn't fair."

"I know." Adele nods. "We'll figure something out, don't worry but for now I need to go. I have a plane to catch to Denver to make sure my own brother doesn't get murdered at baseball practice."

"Yeah, let me know how that goes." Jasmine says.

"Will do." And Adele hangs up before shoving the phone into her pocket and opening the front door. Damon is standing with his back to her talking to Stefan who is stressing over not knowing where evil Alaric hid the last stake.

"You don't think I can do what it takes?" Stefan is asking him, probably talking about having to pry the whereabouts of the stake from Alaric in the next day or so.

"Well you're good Stefan again." Damon says with a hint of distaste. It was sometimes funny the way Stefan's hero complex annoyed his older brother. "You're in control. Sorry, you might get the girl but you lose the edge. Speaking of..." Damon turns his head, flashing her a quick wink before moving his attention onto Elena walking up from the side. "Have you girls ever flown first class?"

Considering Adele's never been on an airplane to begin with, that answer would be a big fat no. "Who did you have to compel for that?" Is Elena's question.

Damon scoffs. "Please, I use miles." Adele's lips quirk up slightly at his secret smile as he grabs the three suitcases by the door and leads the way out.

*VD*

The flight wasn't too bad considering she found herself sleeping through most of it and once they finally touched down in Denver and collected their bags and rented their car, they head out to one of the first places in Adele's list of Jeremy's favorite hangouts.

She made the list up right before take-off; she'd talked to him enough times and listened to him talk about his life in Denver to know enough to find him without having to freak out the family he was staying with.

The batting cages were their first stop and to her relief, he was there. "Next time we compel him, remind me to make him better at baseball." Damon says as they watch him swing at the balls but miss and Adele snorts before moving forward to slap a hand against the chain link fence.

"Hey, Jer." Elena calls from behind her causing the youngest Gilbert to jerk and spin, eyeing his two sisters with wide eyes.

"Elena, Adele." His eyes travel behind them towards Damon and his surprised smile slowly falls into a frown. "What's wrong?"

Adele and Elena glance between each other for a spilt second both silently agreeing not to tell him that half the trip was to check up on him but only to tell him the part about needing his help. "Well Finn the oldest original is dead." Adele finally starts drawing Jeremy's surprised expression back to her. "I guess that's the best place to start."

"But aren't they linked? That would mean they are all dead." He says but she shrugs and he begins his way out of the cages.

"Well that's what we we're hoping was going to happen but now…" Elena is saying and Adele quickly cuts her off.

"Bonnie was forced by Klaus to unlink them, he threatened her mom," And this is where they leave out the part about him threatening Jeremy as well, bringing on this spontaneous trip. "She had no choice and we're really glad she did because when Finn died every vampire he ever created and they created and so forth died with him. Just dropped dead like an hour later, his entire bloodline just…dead."

"So basically what you're saying is that if you kill an original, the entire vampire bloodline that started with them dies to?" Jeremy questions hanging up his helmet and finally stepping from behind the fence.

"Yes and Damon, Stefan, Caroline and I we're all made from the same bloodline. Katherine and Katherine was turned by Rose but we can't figure out who turned Rose because Rose is dead." Adele explains. "Which is why we're here."

"You need me to talk to Rose?" He questions.

"Yeah." Elena nods. "We have to figure out whose bloodline everyone is sired from. If we don't and we kill the wrong original, they die to."

"So, Katherine sired us, Rose sired Katherine and all we need you to do is find out who sired Rose." Damon finally speaks up following behind the teen as he moves to put his bat up.

"You traveled across the country to get me to talk to a dead vampire?" Jeremy questions.

"Dead vampire is kind of redundant." Adele says but Damon cuts her off with a side glance.

"But yes." He continues.

"Well, I can't." He says much too there surprise. "I could talk to Anna and Vicki because I knew them. I've never even met Rose."

Damon lets out a sigh of annoyance. "What good is you dying and coming back to life if you can't talk to a ghost when I need you to?"

"Rose spent a long time running from Klaus as well. She and Damon were close, so maybe we can use him as a connection." Elena suggests.

"You have to at least try Jer." Adele speaks up, blue eyes looking up at him. "If you don't and we can't figure it out, Damon and Stefan could die, Caroline could die…I could die."

Jeremy gives up with a sigh as he look down at his older sister, he can still remember how it felt to think she had been dead before he doesn't fancy that feeling happening again. "Fine, fine, but can we do this later? My friend just got here and yes, Damon, I actually have some. I'll call you when I'm done." He places a kiss to both of his sister's cheeks before walking past them.

Adele turns to look up at Damon with a look of defeat as Elena calls his name and turns to watch him leave before she gasp drawing Adele's attention. "Damon." She snaps in warning and the older vampire turns around to look as well. The friend Jeremy was referring to was Kol Mikaelson and he picks up a wooden bat from a table as he's walking by. Elena backs away slowly putting herself behind Damon and Adele who take up a stance that blocks her from his sight but he merely swings at the bat at her head and she ducks making the swing catch Damon instead sending him to the ground and she doesn't have much time to react before he's swinging again, this time lower hitting her in the back of the knees and sending her to her back, breaking the wooden bat in the process as she groans.

"What the hell?" Jeremy exclaims but Elena yells at him to stay back, that Kol was an original and he replies about being sorry that they aren't actually friend as he's reaching for a new bat.

"You know," He starts as he grabs for a silver bat. "I'll never get use to aluminum but hey, at least it won't break." He makes to swing at her first more than likely thinking he'll take the weaker one out first but before the hit can connect Damon grabs the bat and shoves one of the broken halves of the wooden bat into Kol's chest, possibly piercing his heart.

"Did you kill him?" Jeremy questions as Damon throws the aluminum bat to the side pushing himself up and reaching over to pull Adele up with him.

"No but it'll buy us some time." He groans directing Adele towards the exit as she limps ahead of him. "Let's go." He snaps at both Elena and Jeremy as they continue to stare at Kol and Elena jumps before rushing forward with Jeremy close behind her.

*VD*

"Where are we?" Jeremy questions as he looks up at the motel rooms lined in front of them. Damon pulls his and Adele's duffle's from the back of the SUV before answering.

"Corner of somewhere and nowhere, where Kol can't find us." He leads them up the steps to the second floor and down to the right before they made it to the room Damon compelled for them. It was a small room with two beds but it would do fine for the night.

"I can't believe Kol was a vampire." Jeremy finally says and Damon of course takes the open opportunity.

"Well, didn't you find it weird that you made a friend so fast? Have you met you?" Adele looks back at him trying to fight the start of a smile to look stern as Elena mutters that he's not helping. "Alright Whoopi," Damon throws down the bags before shutting the curtains. "What do you need? Candles? Incenses? Pottery Wheel?"

"That's not how it works." He reminds him.

"Yeah, I know. I know. They push from the other side and you pull from this one." He replies quickly.

"Alright, you got a picture of her?" Jeremy asks while taking a seat in one of the chairs to the table, Elena quickly takes the other one so Adele throws herself onto the bed closest to them.

"Picture? What from our trip to Disneyland?" He snips. He didn't actually know Rose for that long, how would he have gotten a picture of her from the one time they slept together to the time she died? "Come on Rose, you're not gonna actually make us wait, are you? I know you're obsessed with me." He calls out with a smirk causing Elena to snort as he takes a seat himself, on the end of the bed Adele just threw herself on.

"Alright…" Jeremy shakes his head. "Tell me something about her."

Damon's smirk is devilish as he glances up. "Well she did this little thing with her tongue," He gets a hand kick to the side that causes him to grunt as he looks back toward Adele's who doesn't look in the least bit amused by him anymore and he sighs before turning back. "She spent her last days in paradise." He finally attempts. "Soaking in the sun and reminiscing about what it means to be human. And when death came, she didn't fear it." Adele's blue eyes soften at his words, she's heard them before but it was still heartwarming to hear what he did for her.

"I was with her on her last day," Elena says, eyes full of confusion. "And she definitely wasn't in paradise."

Adele is about to say something, to either explain or tell her to shut up and let him talk before Jeremy cuts her off, beating her two it and bringing relief to them all. "It was in the dream he gave her." They all look over towards him in surprise. "She's here."

*VD*

Nobody is exactly sure what to say at first, they all just kind of look around in a confused state of mind as Rose sits so casually at the end of the bed beside Damon careful of his ever so precious girlfriend's feet.

"Is she lonely on the other side?" Elena finally questions, the first willing to break the somehow tense silence.

"No." Is Rose's automatic response like she was prepared for this exact question to come up. "I was running so much when I was alive, now I have the freedom to do whatever I want."

Jeremy blinks before glancing at his brunette sister. "She says not to worry, she's happy." He tells her because like he was going to sit here and do a word by word playback of what she says if her answers are going to be that long each time they ask a question.

"Is she still hot?" Damon gets another swift kick to the side at his question causing him to look back at Adele to see her tense glare. It wasn't that she had a problem with Damon checking out or making comments about other women, it was just that Rose was a woman he's actually slept with not to mention his recent infidelity.

"Tell him he's still dripping with sex too." Rose is smirking at the raven haired man before glancing towards the young Gilbert when he doesn't speak up to catch his slight glare. He wasn't about to say that to his sister's boyfriend. She was laying right next to him for crying out loud. "Fine." She relents. "Tell him I miss him."

"She says she misses you." Jeremy says watching surprise flicker across his expression before it's gone.

"And tell him," She speaks up again. "That I'm rooting for him and Adele to work out there problems. I don't want to see history repeat itself. He deserves happiness."

Jeremy gives a confused glance before glancing between the other three in the room. What exactly has been going on? What doesn't he know? "She says she misses you all."

"Unfortunately I don't have any news on the siring front. Klaus didn't sire me. No original did. It was Mary Porter." She explains to him and he's quick to rely the message to them watching Damon's face scrunch in distaste.

"Uh," He groans. "Scary Mary?" He releases a quick sigh before glancing around like he would catch a glimpse of her or something. "Well where is she Rose?" Adele finds herself wondering briefly how someone could warranted the name Scary Mary for themselves but quickly dismisses it because that is not what she needs to be focusing on right now.

"I didn't keep track of her when I was alive much less now." She says before blowing out a sigh. "Tell them to sit tight, relax. I'll see what I can dig up."

*VD*

While they wait Damon steps outside to make a phone call, most likely to Stefan to check on the Alaric situation, leaving the three siblings alone in the room and Elena takes that moment to excuse herself into the bathroom as Adele looks through her duffle to try and find something more comfortable to wear.

"So," Jeremy finally speaks up after a few minutes of juggling the idea of if he should say anything or not but in the end he just can't stop himself. "What…What's going on between you and Damon?"

"What?" Adele actually seems surprised that he's asking, like he hasn't noticed the major tense between the two, it was so pronounced it was uncomfortable. "We're dating…We've been dating Jer, this isn't news."

"No," He sighs with a shake of his head. "I mean what happened? Like did you guys get into a fight? Did he do something?"

Adele doesn't answer at first, just kind of stares at him before refocusing her attention onto her bag, pulling out her sleep shorts and a tank top along with a pair of socks. "Everything is fine Jer." She finally answers and he realizes he's not going to get any details out of her but that something did happen.

"Okay," He nods thinking about just letting it go but once again he just can't stop himself. This is his sister and he doesn't want to see her suffer. "But just answer me this, are you guys breaking up?"

Once again he's met with a stretching silence as she stares unblinking at the clothes in her hands. He doesn't need to be her brother to see the obvious pain his question brings her. "We're working it out." She finally answers but it's half assed and he suspects not totally true but before he can press on it, Elena is out of the bathroom and Adele is slamming the door, halting all questions and comments in their path.

When she comes out, she's changed and looking ready for bed and this brings the question of sleeping arrangements. "We can't share a bed." Is Jeremy's automatic protest when Adele tells him he'll be bunking with Elena. "We haven't shared a bed since I was like 5."

"Okay, fine. Then I'll share a bed with Elena and you can share a bed with Damon. I swear he only likes to cuddle a little bit." Adele says as she crosses her arms across her chest watching Jeremy's expression as he ways in the pros and cons of this situation.

"You don't still kick in your sleep right?" He finally grunts out looking towards Elena who actually looks offended at his question.

"I never kicked in my sleep." She whines but Jeremy merely gives her a look and before she can respond to it, the door opens and Damon comes strutting in.

"Everything okay in here?" He questions taking in Adele's victorious look and Jeremy's defeated one.

"Yep." She answers. "Just figuring out the sleeping arrangements."

He nods slowly heading towards the bathroom. "Okay, well then get some rest. I'm sure Rose will make herself known when she gets back."

*VD*

She's been staring at the ceiling for over 15 minutes now, listening to the light snoring of her brother and the running water in the bathroom. As tired as she felt, she can't sleep. After convincing Jeremy it was the best idea for him to share a bed with Elena tonight, she realized that she would be sharing a bed with Damon if he decided not to go into watch dog mode and actually come to bed and it would be the first night that she's been in the same bed as him since even before the…incident.

She didn't know if she could handle it yet, she was already having a hard time. She wanted to be close to him, she wanted to be like they we're before but it was that tiny voice in her head that held her back. It would take time to completely forgive him, to completely trust him again and she said she'd try but she couldn't just let herself fall back into those old ways so fast. He didn't deserve it and she was in too fragile of a state to know if she could handle it but that didn't stop her from wanting.

She wanted him back the way she had him, she wanted to forgive him and she wanted to be with him but she hated him for what he did and she hated that he made her feel this way and she hated that even now he still manages to jumble all her thoughts together so damn much.

She flips over onto her side with a huff, hoping to get some kind of sleep even if it's uneasy when the bathroom door clicks and she hears him, his almost silent steps moving up in between the beds, he grabs what she assumes is the bottle of Bourbon from the nightstand before rounding the bed and coming into her direct view. He's shirtless and not helping her state of mind at all. She had to pick the attractive ones; it makes it that much harder to think coherent thoughts this way and of course she can't look away.

She watches him circle the table and chairs, grabbing his button down from the back of one of the chairs and he shrugs it on leaving it unbuttoned as he takes a quick look out the window before snatching the clear plastic cup from the table and pouring a shot's worth of Bourbon into it.

He looks like he's in deep thought as he sits, the chair creaking under his weight as he gets comfortable throwing his feet up into the one in front of him. It looked like he was taking watch dog duty on tonight as he looks down into his glass with a small frown. He downs the liquid before finally glancing up and his light blue eyes meet her darker ones causing a flicker of surprise to flash across his expression. He obviously hadn't been expecting her to either be awake or to be studying him the entire time.

She quickly looks away, forcing her eyes closed and hoping sleep would take her but she has no such luck and she can't help but opening her eyes again. She can't help but to meet his stare again. She holds it this time, unable to look away even if she wanted and she's not sure what she wants.

He places his empty plastic cup down, eyes never leaving hers as he gets up and slowly crosses the few feet that separate him and the bed. With slow movements as to not make noise that might rouse the two others in the room, he climbs into the open space she left for him in case he actually wanted to sleep at some point tonight. He lays back throwing an arm up to lay underneath his head.

They don't say anything at first, they just lay there with Adele's head spinning and him trying to find a way to get her to open up to him because it never use to be this hard. "You know," Adele finally breaks the silence. "Elena and Jeremy seemed surprised when you mentioned what you did for Rose."

"Yeah," He sighs out looking away from her to glance at the ceiling. "It wasn't about them, it wasn't about anybody but Rose."

Her lips twitch silently at his answer. "Why don't you let others see this side of you? Why don't you let other people see the good in you?" She questions lightly and she watches him ponder over his answer.

"Because," He finally begins. "When people see good, they expect good." He says turning his head back over to look at her. "And I don't want to have to live up to anyone's expectations. I'm not very good at it; it's not exactly a strong suit." She realizes where he's taking this and a flash of panic moves down her spine. His eyes are intense and his expression is haunted and she can barely handle it so she moves, switching from her side to her back and breaking eye contact right away.

Being this close to him wasn't easy; she could feel the heat of his body against her side and her own body felt flushed and overheated as his scent washed over her, overwhelming her. She runs a hand against her forehead before dropping it down to her side. She takes a few deep breathes, trying to regain some sort of control over her emotions.

Her hand brushes against his own and the single bit of skin to skin doesn't help her state any, only serving to remind her of how much she's missed him and when his fingers begins to inch across her own she suddenly finds it hard to breath, the overheating of her body making it almost unbearable to sit still any longer. She needs to cool down, she needs to get away from him.

She shoots up, quickly leaving him in the bed as she shoots across the room only barely noticing Elena's dark eyes following her movements as she leaves the motel room, getting out and into the chilly night air. In her rush out, she forgot both a sweater and shoes leaving her in her tank top, shorts and at least she put socks on.

She finally gets that deep breath she's needed as she stops at the ice machine, leaning a shoulder against it and welcoming the cold metal against her hot flesh. She wants to scream when she hears the motel door opening and closing behind her. She should've known he'd follow her.

"I'm sorry." She calls out over the short distance where he stops behind her and she really needs him to just go back inside, just leave her to sort through her own thoughts. He made it hard for her to think, he made her not want to think anymore. He needed to just go inside before she snapped and she's just a breath away from doing so.

"Adele," He finally says and she can hear his frustration in his sigh. "What is this? What are we doing?" She can't answer him not that he waits for an answer anyways. "You said you'd try but you won't even talk to me, how am I supposed to know what to do if you can't even…"

She surprises him; she surprises herself when she whirls around on him. She's just a flash of blonde hair, pale skin and dark clothes he can barely prepare for before she's crashing into him and he catches her by the waist, her hands are against his neck and her lips are against his in a searing, desperate kiss that burns with a need so deep that she can't possibly stop herself. Her heart pounds in her chest and her blood boils in her veins and she can't breathe but she can't pull away either as her hands move away from his neck, running down along his shoulder blades.

She doesn't even realizes when he's moved them back until her back hits the cold cement of a pillar and she arches against him with a gasp as his lips leave hers and she can finally breath again as his lips leave a burning trail across her neck, down her collar bone and down towards the valley of her breast.

she can barely handle it as she makes him move his head back up, capturing his lips again as her hands beginning to roam, across his lower stomach feeling the muscles contracting as he moves against her around his lean waist to his lower back where she digs her nails in and he hisses against her lips pulling her up trying to get her closer. One hand urgently pushes at her tank top, pushing it up to reveal the skin he's seeking so desperately, the other moves across the back of her thigh hiking her leg up around his hip to finally close that distance between them causing a sharp moan to spill from her lips.

A throat clears from behind Damon causing them to rip away from each other, Adele's shaking hands moving to straighten out her clothes before she glances up, dark blue eyes wide as she look across the hall at Elena and Jeremy.

"Yeah," Elena coughs before reaching up to run a hand through her hair. "Rose found Mary." She tells them. "She lives in Kanas."

Damon takes a second to cast his eyes back down to her watching as she averts her eyes to the ground, refusing to meet his gaze. With a huff of annoyance he turns back to the other two Gilberts. "Okay then." He says. "Let's go."

*VD*

"This is the address." Jeremy says as each of them take their time to step out of the car and look up at the house. It's a large two story suburban style house with dead over grown trees and a dead leaf covered yard. It didn't scream welcoming at all.

"Looks about right." Damon comments lowly as he frowns up at the house. Adele nods as Damon moves forward.

"Stay here." She mentions back to Jeremy as she moves after him only stopping when Elena moves to follow. "You too."

"What?" Elena exclaims.

"Why?" Jeremy snaps. "So you two can make out some more?" Adele turns back to glare at him shutting him up quick. She's about to tell him that if she wanted to make out with him she could considering his title as her boyfriend but Damon beats her too it.

"Don't be a dick." He says, pointing between the two hanging back by the car. "Listen to your sister and both of you stay here." Jeremy stomps back around the car to get back into the back seat as Elena huffs leaning back against the hood and crossing her arms. "Thank you." He calls as Adele turns back to look at the house and he mentions her forward.

They leave the too sulking human's by the car, walking across the leaf covered yard to the front door. Damon knocks lightly before pushing the unlocked door open with a creak that echo's back at them. Adele sticks a foot out to wave it in the doorway letting her know that no one owned the house before she steps through looking back at Damon who nods before stepping in as well.

She flicks on the flashlight on her phone, shining it around them. "Oh, like Vampire Hoarders." Damon mutters as they look at all the stuff cluttered around.

Adele hums her agreement. "Who is this Mary person?" She questions lightly.

"Scary Mary." He says. "She's really old, super creepy." Adele could get that, just by the appearance of the outside of the house.

"How do you know her?" She asks.

"Do you really want to know?" He questions back and she realizes she should've expected that kind of response. How could she expect anything less?

"Of course, why do I bother asking?" She mutters using the toe of her boot to nudge at a weird looking garden gnome in one of the corners.

"It was a long time ago." He says in assurances. "She may be creepy but I never said she was ugly." A loud sound comes from the direction behind her causing Adele to jump spinning around fast enough to almost lose her balance but Damon is beside her in a second, catching her by the arm.

"What was that?" She whispers, heart pounding as they look towards two wide set double doors across the parlor from them. Adele likes her horror movies but she wasn't a big fan of the thought of being in one and this was turning into an "Attack of the Vampire Hoarder" type deal that she was not okay with.

"Stay here." Damon whispers back moving forward and she squeaks rushing forward to grab his arm.

"What?" She demands. "No, the blonde is always the first to die everyone knows that." She says clenching tight to his bicep and he snorts.

"It's always the dumb blonde who is the first to die." He says. "You are in no way dumb, Miss. 4.5 GPA."

"I have a 5.0 GPA but you are still not leaving me here." She flashes the flashlight forward over his shoulder as her other hand stays clenched to his bicep. "Walk." She demands and he sighs moving forward with her cowering behind him, blue eyes trained on the door.

"You are a vampire." Damon whispers as they are making it slowly up to the door. "This is not how vampires act."

"I'm an 18 year old orphaned teenager; I have every right to act this way." She tells him and he doesn't disagree with her as he reaches out for the door handle. He pushes the door open leading them into the room and Adele flashes her flashlight towards the side wall shining light over the body of a vampire woman staked to the wall.

"Mary." Damon mutters.

"Quite contrary." A voice pipes up from behind them startling Adele enough that she squeaks in surprise whipping around as light floods the room revealing Kol sitting in an arm chair nestled in the corner of the room. "Sorry." He dwells. "Didn't mean to startle you." But by his smirk, she'd say that was a lie.

He pushes himself up from the chair, the bat from Denver still in his grasps as he walks past them, Damon moving them back and away securing Adele behind him as they watch Kol admire his handy work. "Shame about Mary. She used to be a blast. Don't quite know what happened. I fear all the time she spent with my family might have ruined her. She was a bit of an Original groupie."

"And were you her favorite?" Adele questions with a glare and he turns round eyeing her from over Damon's shoulder. He can see why his brother fancy's the blonde vampire so much. She is quite good looking and her eyes are so intense, so intelligent.

"You mean, did I turn her? I think I did." He's playing with them and both Damon and Adele can tell. "But no, wait, maybe it was Rebekah. There was also a Klaus period. And let's not forget the Elijah affair. I spoke to my brother, I know you're trying to find out who you descended from. Now you never will." He's laughing at them and they can only stand to glare at him in response. "So, where did we leave off?" He swings the bat, hitting Damon directly in the knee and Adele jumps back as he falls with a groan. He swings at his back before hitting his shoulder and Adele can do nothing but watch. She wants to help but what good is she against an original?

"Adele…" Damon groans from the ground. "Run!" She hesitates. She doesn't want to leave him there, Kol will kill him but maybe if she leaves, she can formulate a plan, take him by surprise and get them both out alive. She makes a move for the door but Kol appears in front of her before she can step foot out the room.

"My brother says you and your sister are off limits." He tells her before grabbing her around the neck and tossing her none to gently across the small space into the side of the bed in the middle of the room. "Please don't test me. It's be a shame if I had to hurt you, you're just so pretty."

Damon recovers enough to grab Kol around the neck, face scrunched in pain and fury. "Don't touch her." He growls out before Kol brings the bat up throwing Damon off and across the room.

"Oh dear, I've hit a nerve." He laughs looking back at Adele who's crawled up to sit against the side of the bed before looking back towards Damon, struggling to get up. "Relax, darling, I just want us to be even. You snapped my neck, you killed my brother, and then you humiliated me." Adele clenches her jaw and bites her tongue as she watches Kol beat the bat down into Damon's back repeatedly. "There. Now we're even."

Kol turns smiling back at her as she glares before he takes off leaving them alone in the random bedroom and Adele moves over to help Damon stand up, listening to the bones in his back cracking from being broken by the bat. She moves him over to lean against the headboard of the bed. "Are you okay?" She asks.

He straightens his arm out, letting the bones pop and mold back into place before nodding. "Yeah, much better." He takes a second to look her over before reaching up to caress the side of her face, his finger brushing her temple. "Are you okay? You're bleeding."

She reaches up, touching the spot above her eyebrow and pulling her fingers back, glancing at the blood before sighing. "Yeah." She says before wiping at the blood. "It's fine, already healed." He nods looking at the clear skin now that the blood was wiped. She takes a minute to feel his fingers against her skin before she pulls away with a sigh. She turns, ready to leave this house.

"What are you doing?" Damon's question stops her and she glances back at him, confused.

"What do you mean?" She asks.

"You kissed me." He reminds her not that she could forgot it. "I thought maybe we were going to move past this."

"Move past this?" She mutters, turning back to fully look at him. "Move past what? The fact that you cheated on me? With Rebekah? Move past that?"

"Yeah." He answers and she almost laughs.

"Damon, it's not going to be that easy." She tells him moving her hands to her hips. "You cheated on me, I trusted you to never hurt me like that, to never break my heart but you did all because you got mad."

"I was drunk…" He tells her and she scoffs cutting him off.

"Yeah I know." She snaps. "And that's the problem. I said something stupid, something really stupid but instead of talking to me, you went and got drunk and slept with Rebekah because…you…you sabotage things. Every time something happens, every time we fight, every time there's a bump in the road, you lash out and do something you regret doing, something you know will hurt me and this time…you crossed a huge line."

"You don't think I know that?" He snaps back. "I know I'm a jealous jerk, I know I can feel too damn much but that's what you do to me and I can't help it! I'm possessive, I love you to damn much great but…" The sound of her slap echo's through the room and it's the first slap in a really long time that he can actually feel, the sting is real, making his right cheek numb.

"Do not even try to act the victim here." She sneers. "You do not get to act hurt, not anymore. You had your chance to come to me, to yell and scream and act the victim. What I said that night was wrong. I know that and I wanted to take it back right away. I didn't mean it. You can't really think I would find you loving me such a burden? I love you too and right now that is a problem!" She's yelling but it needed to be said, she needed to get this out. "I always told myself that if my boyfriend cheated on me, I would leave him. That I wouldn't look back and with Michael and even Tony I can honestly say that I would've left but you," She jams a finger into his chest. "You are the one I can't leave."

She takes a deep breath, trying to gather her thoughts and her emotions. "I can't bring myself to leave you and I freaking hate it. I hate that I can't see myself ever living without you. So no, I'm not breaking up with you but I'm sure as hell not just going to move past this. We can go back to being together, we get a new mattress and I'll even come back to the boarding house but you have a lot of groveling to do because I can't trust you and I sure as hell haven't forgiven you." She lays a hand flat against his chest pushing him back and he catches himself before he falls onto the bed. "I can't leave you but you still have to find a way to make this up to me."

She steps back watching as he regards her silently, his right cheek is a bright red from her slap and slowly he nods. "Okay." He finally says. "I'll accept that challenge."

The ride back towards home is a silent one, not even the radio is playing. Damon is driving sneaking glances at Adele who is staring out the passenger side window, deep in thought about something. Elena is pretending to be sleeping but Jeremy can see her, sneaking glances towards the front of the car, towards Damon and Adele. She'd been unusually quiet since the Motel, since the hallway scene.

He sighs turning his own head to look out the window, watching the scenery rush by. "Are we there yet?" Rose's voice makes him jump as he turns back towards the middle seat in the back. She glances away from him towards the two in the front. "Don't tell them I'm here." She request with a small smile.

"They had a fight." She tells him, knowing how much not knowing was killing him. "Damon did something stupid and now they are fighting. I know you want to stop it." Rose looks towards him with a soft smile. "I know you want to protect her from him but you're still young. You don't see what I see. She makes him a better person, makes him rethink his choices before he does something and he…he changes her. Damon makes her want to be everything she can be. He makes her see not just what people want her to see. They love each other more than anything and that could either be the best thing or the worst thing for them." Rose pauses for a moment, to take a glance at the "sleeping" Elena. "And they need to be the ones to figure out which and it's something only they can do. Nobody else."

Jeremy glances towards his sister and Damon, watching Damon glance at her and she briefly glances back. When Jeremy turns back to Rose, she's gone and he sighs again wishing not for the first time that he knew exactly what was going on.
