So i feel like I have to add a disclaimer, I have no Idea when most of the Quileute's changed. I do know it happened between Twilight and New Moon but I am just too traumatized to rewatch Twilight but will double back if need be because I need to get something right.
Another thing is this fanfiction, like most fanfiction, is very biased. I like who I like and whoever I don't is getting the boot. I'm not going to spoil it but if you notice that your favorite is out of here like last year, sorry but I just can't be nice to them.
Now onto the story.
Chapter 3-
Sam's POV-
I could immediately tell that Ash wasn't all there. Making complete eye contact solidified that because she wasn't seeing me the way people should see other people. Her eyes were looking at me like I was a wall, with complete disinterest and boredom. She was being polite in a very stiff and formal way that was most likely learned and didn't come easy to her.
I moved aside so she could get out of her father's truck. I saw Terrell enjoying whatever conversation with some of the boys, boys he used to babysit when they were younger. He was close with all the families, very few outsiders were as close as he was, and I had to admit that there was just something about him that made me wish he was part of our tribe. It was tricky keeping him so close yet so far, but we've done it for so long it was second nature. The same would be applied to his daughter because he was our friend and really didn't want to take chances after what happened the last few months with all the animal attacks.
"Alright." I heard him say "Which one of you is going to be walking with Ash?"
"I already chose Paul and Embry." I said, pointing them out and seeing them step forward. "Paul will keep track of her and Embry will keep track of Paul."
"Hey!" Paul yelled offended. Embry nudged him while smirking. I saw Ash turn to look at them but there was still no interest in her eyes. If never seen eyes look so dead before. She left my side and went to hug her dad. I'm surprised she's capable of affection and even seemed to enjoy the hug, before turning her attention towards the two boys.
"Can we go?" She asked them, heavily petting her camera strap on her shoulder. She must be itching to take pictures.
Paul looked at her weird before shrugging. "Yeah, let's go."
She waved at her dad as he got back in his truck and drove away. I watched the three teenagers head away and couldn't help but wonder what the hell I agreed to.
No Ones POV-
The two Quileute's didn't know how to handle the girl that they were made to protect for the day. As soon as they had gotten into the thick of the woods, she had her camera to her eye and was taking pictures of whatever, she saw. She hadn't said a word since they got here, and it made the two of them want to be even quieter. It wasn't hard for Embry who was more silent by nature, but Paul was finding it hard. He hated so much silence and the fact that she was ignoring them.
When Ash finally stopped, they found themselves at one of tallest trees in the area. Ash put her camera down and looked at Embry.
"Can you give me a boost?" She asked.
Embry looked at her then the tree and back. "You're going to climb it?"
"Not all the way. Maybe just midway."
Embry looked back at the tall tree and came to the conclusion that even midway was too high for the human girl.
Before Embry could tell her no, Paul beat him to it. "Look, you seem like a nice, weird girl but I would prefer my head on my shoulder and not the floor when your father finds out that we helped you climb a tree and you got injured on our watch. No thank you."
Ash rolled her eyes. "Please tell me what my dad said was on the no list."
"No climbing, letting you run off, get close to the wildlife, let you out of our sight, get anywhere close to the cliff and to be back by dark." I told her.
"What the hell can I do with just ground level shots?" She thought aloud. The boys heard a bit more emotions coming into her voice which was better than the chilly silence and blunt way she talked. "You said something about a cliff. Can I see it?"
Embry looked skeptical but Paul just shrugged. "I could go for a Dive anyway. This way."
So that's how all three of them ended up where the wolves would go cliff diving to cool off and have some fun. Paul had started at a run and jumped right over. Embry was feeling slightly worried for Ash, but she was just as uninterested as ever and only cared about the view she was seeing.
Ash's POV-
The way the sun was clear in the sky for once despite the cool weather made the scene all the more perfect.
"Don't move." I told Embry, slowly bringing my camera to my eye and adjusting it to capture the full peace of the scene. The way the waves rose and fell in perfect rhythm with a secret violence and the sun only shining on it to enhance it all.
Perfectly imperfect.
"Can I ask you a question?" Embry asked from beside me.
"Sure."
At the same time, he was asking me his question I could see Paul coming to join us. He was wet which was a bad mix with the cold, but he didn't look like he minded it.
"Why did you take up photography?"
I pulled the camera from my eye and started going through the pictures I took. "It just makes more sense." I settled on a picture I had taken while we were in the woods and showed it to them.
"Wow." They said at the same time. I was pleased that they enjoyed it even if I could have done better on it. The light peeking through the trees at random times created some wicked looking shadows but at the angle I was holding it everything looked a little softer and clearer than my human eye could see.
"This is great." Paul complemented.
"Great? This looks like a real-life painting." Embry praised. I only hummed in agreement, having heard every compliment in my four years doing this professionally. They didn't affect me, they never have, but I allowed them because my parents said it was good manners.
I pulled my camera back and slung it back on my shoulder. The sun would soon start setting, I had enough pictures for today. I really wanted to get home, upload them to my computer and start messing around with them.
"Ready?" I asked them. The boys quickly shook out of their haze and nodded. I cast one more at the cliff, a perfect spot for what I had in mind once I had all the pieces ready and started following them back to their spot.
I guess I should have given a warning saying the start is very slow. It's a different pace from what I would usually do but I really don't want to rush it. All the pieces are fitting together how I want so it's pretty good for me.
Next chapter Ash will finally be heading to School, and I will try to make it longer than this one.
Updates are really slow these days because of my studies, exercise and my own writing I do extensive research on but they wont stop completely.
Until Next Time- BigSmallWonder
