Serendipity

Chapter Eleven

The six months came and went in what felt like no time at all. That meant that Sasuke was fully expected to stay home alone without any issues.

It was a big responsibility.

Itachi had said that it was up to him to stay and guard the apartment. It filled Sasuke with pride that Itachi trusted him with something so important. He, of course, took his job very seriously. For the last two weeks he had patrolled his area and made notes about everyone that lived within the apartment building.

Along with the six months passing, Sasuke had grown.

He was now eight years old in his demon form and that helped a lot. Sasuke was no longer a four year old helpless child. He felt faster, bigger, and stronger. He was capable of doing much more than he had previously been able to do.

Sasuke felt very pleased when he had seen how much his body had grown. To him it meant that he now independent. He was sure by now his mother would have expected him to go out and find a job or something…

Would Itachi like it if he got a job…?

Mentally, he was more of a teenager. His understanding and attitudes was more of a thirteen year old or so. He was still immature but the world around him was starting to make more sense. Sasuke had his own opinions based on what he saw and heard.

He was a fast learner, so things came fairly easy to him. Albeit he was still a bit clumsy and clueless when it came to other things, after all, he was still just a child.

No matter how much he wanted to be an adult.

Sasuke's source of knowledge primarily came from what he watched on television. He had started to pay attention to what Itachi and Kisame would watch, which was usually based on crime or some other gory stuff. Sasuke went from watching children's cartoons, to the news, and other reality life television dramas and various movies. He liked adventure shows, and nature ones as well.

Frankly, he had a guilty pleasure of watching horror thrillers, but ended up scared and clinging to Itachi the rest of the night. Not that he didn't already do that on a daily bases, but this was much worse.

His other source of knowledge came from Itachi's friends.

It wasn't the most reliable source, but they always had something interesting to say. If anything, they were the best source for learning things about Itachi. It's how Sasuke knew about what had happened with Itachi's parents and his career choices. Besides that, it was their shenanigans that kept Sasuke confused about the world.

But at least he knew that soon they would be attending Deidara's and Sasori's wedding…

Itachi's laptop was his other source of knowledge.

He learned to use a computer from watching Itachi do it at work as well as every other person that worked there. Sasuke spent some days simply browsing the internet. Most of the time he liked to find new clothing and shoes. Sasuke turned out to be a person who had expensive tastes and wanted whatever looked cool.

That little addiction of his came from watching Kisame's boyfriend, Suigetsu, whom would spend a lot of time in the house now.

Suigetsu was a weird guy, but one that was crazy about Kisame, so that made him alright. At least that is what Suigetsu claimed when he was talking to his friend Karin. It seemed that Kisame was mainly all he talked about or what his thoughts revolved around.

Either way, he had taught Sasuke what a credit card meant and what it was used for.

Itachi had a black limitless one, Sasuke really liked it.

It bought him clothes and shoes. Things he was sure Itachi would buy him if he knew he was a demon with every day needs. But since he still couldn't tell him, Sasuke did it himself.

Plus these were things Suigetsu had explained were necessities from your sugar daddy.

Sasuke was sure that Itachi was his sugar daddy by the way that Suigetsu had explained the term. There was no doubt. Itachi was his sugar daddy.

Anyways, back to Suigetsu.

Sasuke was often annoyed to wake up and find him walking around the house in Kisame's shirt and nothing else. When Itachi and Kisame left to work Sasuke claimed his territory and Suigetsu was encroaching on it.

If he wasn't useful then Sasuke would have kicked him out long ago.

Thankfully, Suigetsu was a bit of a delusional talker. There was always something that he was muttering to himself about or really, just talking to Sasuke as if he was a person. Sasuke would lick through his fur while Suigetsu situated himself, going through the fridge, making food, and then watching television while he ate.

Sometimes he would pack up and leave after that, but others he would sit down and start his so called online shopping. Sasuke would climb over the table and sit beside him, watching everything that the man would be doing online.

That's when Suigetsu would start talking.

He would talk to him in that wacky way, as if he was some sort of child, telling him everything that he was buying, how and why he had a right to it.

Sasuke had to wonder if maybe Suigetsu felt guilty about spending Kisame's money, but he had heard Kisame telling Suigetsu he was allowed to. He saw no reason for Suigetsu to feel guilty for using it.

If anyone should feel guilty it was him, Sasuke was using Itachi's money without his consent…

Either way, it was helpful that the man talked.

That's how Sasuke learned that you needed to know your size in all these things, and through trial and error he had found his size in clothing and shoes.

Suigetsu had taught him how to also get a refund and exchange things that were not right, and sometimes getting something free out of it. Suigetsu was truly something else, but he wasn't a bad person at all.

Sasuke didn't mind him.

But would Suigetsu be like the other demons that looked down on someone like him?

Anyways, that didn't matter. Thing was with Suigetsu, Sasuke had also learn some hard lessons. One day the man had whispered, make sure your sugar daddy doesn't notice how much you spend by keeping it consistent.

Sasuke made that mistake only once, and by luck got it blamed on Kisame. The story went that Kisame somehow got Itachi's card and spent the money on new shoes. The purchases Sasuke had made had been a bit expensive and noticeable, specially a new pair of shoes that he just had to get upon seeing them…

Since then, Sasuke was careful that his transactions were scattered enough not to raise suspicion from his Itachi. The last thing he needed was Itachi finding out that he was not only a demon, but has been spending his money without proper permission as well.

What Sasuke liked the most though was that his bigger and stronger body allowed him to go out on his own. He was able to run far distances in little time, and his powers were coming in nicely.

Sasuke wasn't as scared as he had been in the past.

With Itachi having taught him how to walk around the neighborhood, Sasuke had a mapped out area of places to go. With his new ability to understand street names and directions, Sasuke had expanded the area that he traveled. Each area was marked and scented for him as his guide home. Sasuke truly had claimed a nice portion of territory.

The Opossum creature that had owned the territory before had met a crucial death under Sasuke's claws. He'd sliced him up and left him dead where all that had followed in the opossum's lead would know that there was a new king in town.

Sasuke was sure his mother would be happy to know that Sasuke was able to claim land.

Itachi had also emphasized on not letting any strangers get close to him in any way. Sasuke heeded that warning and didn't let anyone come around him, much less talk to him. It made him really anti-social as he would only talk to shopkeepers when making purchases, but other than that, there was no one.

Itachi didn't show it, but he was concerned with just anyone getting near him. Sasuke had not been the only one to suffer trauma from what happened with that stupid rat demon. To even think about that event left a bitter taste in Sasuke's mouth.

No matter how much he wanted to forget it, he couldn't.

He couldn't forget anything that had hurt him.

Not that rat demon.

Not his father.

The world was cruel.

Outside of the apartment, where it wasn't safe, Sasuke was careful. Like a good boy he listened to Itachi and with time he knew he would grow and get stronger. He knew he would overcome the world and he wouldn't have to be so scared and careful over it.

Sasuke couldn't wait to grow up.

At work, Itachi and Kisame walked into the meeting room.

Pain was at the head of the large table, looking incredibly pissed. The reason for his current mood was the preening snake demon standing in front of him, looking very much like he had won. Knowing Orochimaru, he probably had done something that would cause harm to their organization.

It was never a good idea to work with him.

They only ever did when they had no choice. The man had an influence because he had been close to the Kage Hiruzen. The Kage of the leaf was truly the most influential and the one you wanted at your side.

With Kage Hiruzen indisposed, this threatened a lot of organizations.

Itachi and Kisame silently took their seats and waited to find out what was going on.

"Take your fucking seat." Pain hissed. Orochimaru chuckled under his breath, but did as he was asked. Konan placed a hand over Pain's shoulder, offering her support and calming aura. Pain instantly regained control over his feelings. "I've called a meeting today based on the new deals that Summit is propositioning. That means budget cuts and loss of benefits."

This got all of them agitated. They support of budget and benefits was something crucial for their job. It was the difference on how well their employees got paid, how their health was taken care of, and the ability to offer support to their clients.

"What is the Kage Summit even doing?" Deidara cried, "They are supposed to govern this nation. They are supposed to take care of it. All they are doing is making it go to shit!"

"With humans growing every day uncomfortable with demons being considered a high authority, our jobs are being threatened. Instead the funds will be going to starting a supernatural human division," Pain rubbed at his temples, looking exhausted. "They think humans should learn to take care of their own,"

"The reason we're here is because humans are useless when it comes to solving their own supernatural issues," Sasori hissed. "Some of them even live in the delusion that we don't exist!"

"The decision was not easily made. Orochimaru made himself the catalyst to the final decision," Pain narrowed his eyes on the man. Everyone turned to look at the snake demon. Orochimaru had a chance to vote, to know what new laws would be passed. For the consideration of revoking supernatural organizations meant that the man had not been in support of them.

"While I enjoy supporting the Akatsuki and any other task force, I have my own goals. I've decided to invest in human genetics instead and offer the support humans need to evolve so that they can deal with their issues appropriately," Orochimaru said. "It's what humans want anyway. They don't trust the supernatural. They need that assurance to be independent from us."

"Genetically engineering humans to be more like us or other supernatural beings isn't the answer," Itachi cut in. "You very well know the results that have come off of that. You're not original on it, why do you think creatures exist!"

"Yeah!" Kisame slammed his hand on the table in support of Itachi's words.

"Humans are predisposed and coded to attack their own. The slightest difference makes them hate one another." Konan interjected. "What makes you think that they won't use this to exterminate themselves based on power? Humans are fine where they are in the chain of evolution, they don't need your interference."

"I don't see it that way. In fact I see it as the change that they need. If humans were to get more control and not be so scared they would accept and evolve themselves to be better!" Orochimaru got to his feet. "Whether the Summit has decided to keep funding you or not is no longer my concern. I won't advocate for it."

"We counted on you because you are able to not only bring in great demons to the task force, but also had influence. I'm afraid we can no longer work together," Pain said with finality.

"Is that truly what I was good for?" Orochimaru feigned care. "Well, good luck finding yourself another ambassador. Yamato, let us go!" he called for his lackey and the two of them left. Orochimaru didn't care to help Akatsuki out. Not when what he wanted was to make Itachi cry and if he had to hurt their organization to get his point across, then he would.

He would only hope that Itachi would be blamed for this.

Stupid baby demon thought he was so tough. Well, this was the power Orochimaru has!

"What are we going to do, if they defund us we won't be able to keep working and providing resources?" Konan asked, worriedly looking at her partner. Pain had a hard look on his face as he thought things through. There was only one thing they could do.

"We will have to start a petition. We've worked hard and I know we've pleased many of our clients. If we can show the importance of our division, we should be able to ask for a reconsideration before any change comes," Pain said.

It wasn't going to be easy, especially because now they didn't have someone with an in.

They had something with Orochimaru solely based on the fact that the man had started to work closely with Danzo. That sleazy man was entrenched deep in the settlements of the Kage Summit since Hiruzen became incapacitated.

Sasori suddenly sighed loudly, looking displeased. "I think I can help. I hate doing this much less because I always said I wouldn't ask for anything from my past…" Sasori closed his eyes as he said. "I personally know the Kazekage. Deidara and I can go and talk with him to ask for his support."

"You don't have to force yourself to do something you don't want to," Pain said. The last thing he wanted was for his employees to be bothered.

"Yeah, besides we can probably get on the Mizukage's good side if we flaunt Itachi at her," Kisame joked. The Mizukage was known for doing anything for a man that she considered handsome. Itachi fell easily in that category, if her batting eyelashes and offers to dinner with her had not been an indication the last time they had faced the summit.

"No," Sasori shook his head. "it's fine, I'll do this for us,"

"Thank you Sasori, we truly appreciate that you are placing yourself out for us like this," Pain said.

"It's no problem." Sasori said, and it truly wasn't. He believed in Akatsuki and their cause, he truly would do anything to keep their task force going strong.

The sun was blazing as the morning wane into the afternoon. Orochimaru sat comfortably in the passenger seat of his car while Yamato drove to the now familiar apartment building.

The one where Uchiha Itachi lived.

"What's with the face Yamato," Orochimaru asked as he turned to look at his driver. Yamato had been silent but obviously sending him glares. The look on his face was stone hard and truly something that amused the snake.

"It was cruel of you to place them in that hard decision," Yamato finally said. He had been trying so hard to hold his tongue, but he couldn't anymore. He just couldn't agree with what Orochimaru had done. While he worked for him, he tried to respect those that respected him in return. Akatsuki never once shunned him away.

To threaten a defunding, that was going too far.

That was their jobs in danger.

"I don't pay you to pity my enemies," Orochimaru rolled his eyes. "Get over yourself, it's not something that they can't fix. I'm sure it'll work out. I just wanted to show them a little of my power. You can say I was flexing on them."

"But why…"

"Nothing personal with the company, honestly it's just Itachi." Orochimaru unbuckled the his seat belt when the car came to a halt. They had reached their destination. "I want him to come to me, crawling and begging."

"That's not going to happen," Yamato deadpanned. He didn't say it aloud, but he was sure Itachi would sooner kill Orochimaru then ever crawl and beg him.

"It could, and I know how." Orochimaru stepped out of the car. "Keep the car on, I'm just going to go and get my new sweet little pet. Wait till you see him, he's so adorable." He said and shut the door.

Yamato's eyes were wide as he watched Orochimaru rush into the apartment building. He knew exactly what Orochimaru was talking about. Fuck, he didn't want to even think about the consequences of Orochimaru kidnapping Itachi's kitten.

Was the snake an idiot?

It was almost lunch time, Sasuke's tummy rumbled a bit as he yawned and rolled out of bed, landing on his four paws. He shuffled forward, pushing Itachi's slightly ajar door to the side and took a moment to listen.

The house was completely silent, alone, and empty.

Silently cheering that he was on his own today, he transformed into his eight year old form and rushed to the basket that held Itachi's dirty laundry. He rolled around the wonderful clothing, rubbing himself against everything scented with Itachi.

It was like a warm hug.

It was home.

Honestly, there was another reason he was going through the dirty laundry.

Kisame had made the comment some time ago, but Sasuke was quick in taking it. Itachi tended to leave dollar bills of all kinds inside his jeans pockets and forgot about them. Kisame had made a big deal about it because he had found the torn money in the washer and had mourned it.

He then threatened Itachi about it and that he will start to go through his clothes just to check the pockets. Itachi hadn't looked like he cared either way.

That didn't work out as now Kisame found no money and it all went into Sasuke's pockets.

Sasuke had found a corner in Itachi's closet to store his clothing and shoes for when not in use.

After snatching his bounty for the day, Sasuke took a shower and dressed himself properly. He took a moment to run his fingers through his raven hair. Sometime he combed it, other times he just left it as it was. No like it mattered, his hair had a mind of its own and would always end up sticking up in the back, while his bangs framed his face.

Deciding to leave it as it was, Sasuke wondered if he should go out today. He slipped on his high top black and white shoes as he skipped into the kitchen.

Sasuke had been happily humming to himself while preparing a simple sandwich when he heard a noise from outside the apartment. The sound sounded like someone was messing with the lock from the front door.

He cut his sandwich in half and using the same knife walked over to the door. His ears easily caught the sounds of someone messing with the handle. Gulping, he back away and returned to the kitchen.

Jumping onto the counter, Sasuke pushed the kitchen window open and took a peek outside. He frowned when he saw a tall, gray faced man with slimy long black hair standing at the front door, trying to pick the lock.

Sasuke smirked.

Perfect!

Itachi had said that it was his job to protect the apartment while he and Kisame were away at work. It was time to prove that he could do just that. Turning around, he snatched one half of his sandwich, and stuffed it into his mouth, He was hungry.

He then silently dropped onto the ground outside, and approached the stranger. The angle that the window sat made it easy to know if someone was there. The fact that this man had not seen him meant that he was fully focused on his task of opening the door.

Sasuke couldn't allow that.

Sasuke knew the lay out of the apartment well. There were two windows by the counter in the kitchen which he had just used. There was one in each bedroom. There was a vent in Kisame's bathroom, but a small window in Itachi's bathroom. That window couldn't be used to sneak into the house. The living room didn't have any windows.

"Hey mister, what are you doing?"

The man jumped, turning to face the small boy. Yellow wide startled eyes met calm deep inky curious eyes. It was obvious that the man had just been caught doing something that he shouldn't be as he looked around, before relaxing.

"Hey kid, where are your parents? You shouldn't be out here in the middle of the day like this." The man smiled, leaning down a bit, "Don't kids your age go to school or something?"

"What's school?" The boy asked, tilting his head. Before the man could say anything Sasuke cut him off by saying, "What's your name mister?"

Startled, the man answered without thinking, "Orochimaru,"

"Oh," The child blinked.

Of course, Sasuke suddenly remembered who this guy was. He was that creep that liked to harass Itachi. It never settled right with Sasuke how this man tried to demand Itachi's attention. In fact, Sasuke hated that.

"What, are you in awe? Have you perhaps heard of me before? I am a genius in the demon world." Orochimaru boasted, flicking his hair in a very conceited way.

"Never heard of you," Sasuke suddenly ran forward. "Oooh, what are you doing to the door! The misters that live here are going to be so mad when I tell them what you have been doing." Sasuke pulled out a phone and took a picture, the flash blinding the yellow eyed demon for a moment.

Flustered, Orochimaru turned to try and catch the boy, but failed. He in fact tripped with the way the boy moved. He was small and annoying.

"I'll be sure to show this picture of you to them," he said, waving bye to the snake demon.

Orochimaru gritted his teeth and rushed forward, his intentions clear to catch the boy. Sasuke dodged in time, his little heart exhilarating in fear at nearly being snatched. He used his advantage of knowing the apartment area well as he ducked between apartments.

Orochimaru was pissed. He was going to get his hands on that little brat and he would end him. The little fucker was fast though and it was getting on his nerves on how he couldn't easily catch him.

Sasuke's luck ran out when he faltered in his step and tripped.

Orochimaru used this to his advantage, catching him around the scuff of his shirt and pulling him off the ground. Sasuke kicked and punched, his eyes wide as the snake turned him around. No matter how he punched and kicked, none of them landed. He was too small and the snake was giving him a look.

"Not so coordinator are you," the snake laughed. "You think you can get away with trying to make a fool out of me?" he hissed, narrowing his eyes.

Sasuke gave him a pout glare, trying his best to look mean and terrifying. "I'm not the one going around trying to break into people's apartments!" Sasuke snapped, his eyes flashing red.

"What is it to you, it's not like I am doing anything to you, why don't you keep your nose out of other people's business like a good brat and fuck off." Orochimaru's tongue came out, tasting the air around the child.

He couldn't sense anything about him other than he was a small demon with really no potential to speak off.

What a waste of his time.

Sasuke flinched when the long tongue came close to his face. He wasn't sure what it was, but panic settled into him, easily discharging a burst of electricity.

Orochimaru was taken by surprise, watching how the child lit up like a firework and burned his hand, up to his arm and hit his face. He unwittily released the child and fell back on his ass, crying out in pain as his flesh was seared.

Orochimaru was left trembling in a cold state, his hand flexing as it bled.

Sasuke landed on his feet, and jumped far away from the man. His eyes were still a deep red as he glared at the snake. The boy was shaking like a leaf, obviously scared, but he wasn't backing away.

Orochimaru sat there, staring in complete awe and interest.

Beautiful

There was no other word that described the child standing before him. A divine demon like no other, even more interesting than Itachi himself and that was saying something. Orochimaru wanted him. He wanted that child for his own.

Staggering to his feet, the man smirked.

"Surprisingly talented, why don't you come and be mine. I can refine you into the most precious gem," he extended his good hand out to the child.

Sasuke bared his teeth, fangs made for tearing into flesh and breaking bones flashed at Orochimaru. Truly, this boy was something else. Orochimaru had never seen anything like him. He truly had to have him!

"No one wants to belong to a loser like you, nya," Sasuke stuck his tongue out and vanished from Orochimaru's sight.

The snake let out an annoyed sound, looking around to see if he could spot the child once more when the door to the apartment across from Itachi's opened.

An old lady stepped out. She gave him a very obvious and cursory look. She shot him a glare that said he needed to leave or she'd beat the daylights out of him. Orochimaru backed up while placing his hands up in self-defense and motioning that he was going.

He was put off as she followed him out, making sure that he truly left.

"Fuck, but amazing. I will come back and I'll get Itachi's cat, and that boy. I will own them all in time. My collection will be perfect," he licked his lips. With that in mind, he left for the day. Yamato was perplexed when Orochimaru entered with a dreamy look on his face. It creeped him out but he turned on the car and drove off.

It was getting late and Itachi would soon be home.

Sasuke was up on the roof, watching the snake demon go.

He let out a breath when he watched him get in a car and leave. He glanced down at his hand and flexed his fingers. He had sparked with electricity again, but he released out of fear. He needed to focus and be able to do it whenever, not just when he was scared.

He would never be able to make Itachi proud if he didn't learn!

From now on he was going to practice and train. Itachi had a few books on how to do it and the internet had a few tutorial videos that he had been scoping out. It was time to get serious!

Itachi was looking to him to protect their home and he would do just that.

Next time, because he just knew there would be another one, he will be ready to take on that stupid snake demon!

Itachi was done with the day.

He was stressed over the fact that he had several upcoming missions that will keep him away from home. While Kitty was left home alone during the day, leaving him for several days alone didn't settle well with him.

He couldn't even ask his friends to look after him because they had their own missions to complete. He wasn't sure what he could do at this point.

"Suigetsu says he will more than gladly watch over him!" Kisame said as he texted back and forth with his boyfriend. "He says he really likes Kitty and that they get along well. No worries, he will look after him."

"You do realize that your boyfriend runs the water bill way over what is normal right. If anything he just wants to keep taking baths here." Itachi accused. He was annoyed when the water bill went up just because of Suigetsu.

Kisame gave him a guilty look, "I'll speak to him about that, otherwise he will start paying. He's not that bad, you know,"

Itachi sighed, "Okay, fine. Since I trust you I'll trust that Suigetsu will be able to look after Kitty," he conceded.

Kisame grinned, "No worries dude, you will see. Suigetsu won't let you down, he will look after Kitty well."

Itachi smirked, "You and Suigetsu are truly that serious then? You're practically moving him in."

"I don't know we just click," Kisame said, looking happier than he had ever looked. Itachi was happy for his friend. "Now we just need to find you someone."

Itachi groaned, "Can we please not start with that, I don't care to at the moment."

"You know your mother never stays quiet for too long, within the week she will be on you about getting a lover," Kisame reminded. Itachi knew, he just didn't feel the need to go out and find someone. He knew that his friends were already planning a few outings to help him out, but he was hesitating. While he knew what he had to do, he didn't want to have to do it at all.

Finding someone was the last thing on his mind.

Honestly though, he couldn't tell his friends that the moment he looked to forward the most was opening his apartment door.

Just like now, as he did, and Kitty would rush towards him. Kitty's tail was up, flicking around in that funny candy cane shape as he meowed and circled his legs. It was the sweetest welcome home and he couldn't get enough of it.

With the snap of his fingers, Kitty's ears caught the sound and he would jump up into his arms. The kitten was still relatively tiny, but also it was obvious that he'd grown. He was now two handfuls instead of one.

Getting to hold that little fluff ball of purrs after a long day, that was what he loved most right now. How the world's problems melted away like they were nothing as he greeted Kitty. The way he snuggled into his chest as Itachi hugged him.

"How was your day my melty goo," he cooed softly as he walked towards the kitchen. Back then, making food wasn't even a priority. He'd just mindlessly and quietly go to his room, get ready to sleep and forget about his day.

Instead he found joy listening to the soft mews and purrs as Kitty impatiently awaited his meal.

"Do you think you can teach him to become a chef?" Kisame asked as he set the table, eager for food. He always gave his thanks to the stars for Kitty, because that meant that he got a hot meal every day. Eating in felt so much better than going out all the time.

"He's a cat, he has no thumbs," Itachi shook his head as he said that.

Kisame laughed, and reached for the tiny kitten. "You hear that Kitty, Itachi has no faith in your cooking skills."

The kitten slipped from Kisame's hold and kicked his face, making the shark demon laugh again.

"Like owner like pet," he hummed.

Itachi smiled secretly to himself. He was so happy with Kitty that it was hard to explain. He needed to do more research on pets and how to better take care of them. Itachi was sure that there had to be a society based on it.

He'd do anything to ensure Kitty was happy and well take care off.

Later that night, Itachi was in bed, sitting against his pillow as he read a book.

Sasuke, by now, was used to the sight, and was sure that there was something weighing on Itachi's mind. Not like he could ask him. Sasuke had noticed it himself and placed it together when Itachi one night had refused to go to bed.

When Kisame asked Itachi if he was worrying about one of their cases, Sasuke had realized what had happened. Itachi not sleeping and looking tired had concerned Sasuke. Not that it would stop Itachi from being a 'Porfirio Rubirosa' or 'Condoriano' whatever that meant.

Itachi's friends always accused him of being one or the other.

In fact, Itachi would be perfect. Working through like nothing was bothering him, and in the process only hurting himself. Itachi really was a stupid demon who needed to be taken care of, and that meant it was Sasuke's job to do just that!

It was bed time!

Climbing onto the bed, Sasuke let out a soft mew and pressed into one of Itachi's knees. Itachi glanced away from his book and gave him a gentle smile.

"Hey my mushkitty, you ready for bed?" Itachi asked.

Sasuke vibrated with joy at the name and let out a meow in response. He rushed to settle himself on Itachi's lap and nuzzled his face into his taut stomach. Itachi slightly dropped his book as he reached to pet his back. Sasuke purred, his paws kneading against Itachi's stomach, making biscuits. His scent was essentially placed on Itachi, claiming him.

Mine, mine…my Itachi…

Itachi finally dropped his book as he pulled Kitty closer to his chest and laid down comfortably on his back, settling them in for the night.

"How was your day? Where you okay taking care of the apartment?" Itachi softly murmured, his mind calm, and slowly he was drifting off to sleep. Kitty kept purring, kneading his paws into his chest.

In a matter of minutes, Itachi was gone, deeply and comfortably asleep.

Sasuke pocked at his face a few times, watching the demon sleep. So far Itachi never woke up once Sasuke had lulled him to sleep. Taking his chance as he did every now and then, Sasuke shifted to his demon form.

His legs easily fell on either side of Itachi's waist, his small frame draped over the strong chest as his fingers traced the fine, chiseled lines of Itachi's jaw and nose.

"I protected the apartment well from that stupid snake demon! Don't worry, I won't let him win. I will keep our home safe." Sasuke answered Itachi's question. He spoke so happily and proudly of himself, and for a second wished that Itachi would respond back.

Say what he thought about Sasuke's job well done.

He wanted Itachi to praise him…

He knew that letting Itachi know about what that Orochimaru was doing would be the right thing. Problem was, how could he tell him without outing himself. He didn't want Itachi to hate him, or even throw him out.

He probably wouldn't for what he was, maybe…Sasuke wasn't too keen on taking that chance yet.

On top of that, how could Itachi not be mad that he was a liar?

He was lying to Itachi by pretending to be a normal cat when that was far from the truth.

Well, Sasuke wasn't trying to put himself down tonight.

Instead, he let his small demon body bask in the warmth that radiated from the much larger body under his. The warmth hit different from when he was in his creature form. Somehow, in his demon form, it felt like it healed and gave him strength, nourishing him in a way that food couldn't.

After a while, once he was getting sleepy Sasuke called a soft goodnight, pressing a kiss to Itachi's chest, he closed his eyes and transformed back to his cat form.

Sasuke finally drifted off to sleep.
