Chapter CCLI: The Weapon Known As Lachesis Part VI
"Alright..." Looking over his list upon his clipboard. Doctor Sidolfus was recording Lachesis's answers that she was giving him in regards to her health at that point as she continued to lay in her bed.
Kagi in the meantime was standing by the Doctor's side and was remaining silent, his head was turned down looking away to his left side. Since the trip into the city below, he had assisted the Doctor in whatever way he could, but as he held onto the straps of his yellow backpack. He couldn't help but be worried, for-!
"Kagi!"
Spooked out of his worries, the young boy looked up and saw that it was the Doctor asking for him. He had't heard a single word of his request and nervously he asked, "Um, yes...?"
The older man only sighed as he heard this feeble reply being given, however after a moment he repeated, "Go get me some of our newly acquired medicine," then passing him a note with the exact quantity and type that was needed, he added with his irritation showing, "And don't you dare dawdle!"
At once hearing this request, Kagi nodded rapidly. Then quickly he was off, heading out the opened door and down the corridor.
…
After some minutes, Kagi exited the medicinal department. Walking along with the acquired items, he looked over them quietly. Then looking back to his backpack, he'd prayed that it wouldn't make any noise that would draw unwanted attention or bring about the doctor's horrible wrath. No sound though all this time could have meant something worse!
Looking around himself quietly, making sure the corridor was entirely empty. He then cautiously pulled upon the partly opened zipper, making enough room for his mouth he whispered into it quietly, "Hey...little kitten, are you okay in there?" With that he listened for something.
...Nothing but silence came as his reply, now more horribly concerned, Kagi took his ear from it. Then cautiously he reached his right hand into it, doing this his hand touched something soft and then,
"Mew..."
There was life! Kagi was relieved as he released a contained breath, however feeling the small creature's temperature, he could see it was almost cold to the touch! He had to do something! Fretful, he proceeded to close it up partly again before jogging back to the room where Lachesis was!
For maybe he could get some info from the doctor! If he was just subtle about it then-!
However as he made it back inside the room, the white coated man was nowhere to be seen! "Huh? Where did he go?" With that said his eyes looked about himself in confusion.
Lachesis in the meantime seeing his hasty re-entry, saw his behaviour and thinking it odd, she enquired, "Kagi? Why are you looking about so erratically?"
"Uh?" Brought out of his shocked moment, the young boy saw Lachesis's curious eyes fixed upon him. Quickly he realised what he must look like then in front of her and becoming awkward he tried to think of something fast to say, "Um well? I'm just a bit confused..." then he asked her, "Where did the Doc go?"
Lachesis still puzzled by Kagi's behaviour, answered, "His Pager was rung and he had to go elsewhere, I believe it was my Mother who summoned him."
"Oh?" Kagi uttered, for knowing when it was Rosso who would call upon him. He would be gone for quite a few hours at a time and he was told NEVER to attend with the good doctor when he was in Rosso's company unless she asked for him personally. This now made things more difficult for him, especially concerning the kitten. Looking to his bag again he couldn't help but wonder, what he was to do now? If the kitten didn't get any help soon it would most certainly-!
"Kagi?" Again quickly coaxed out of his thoughts, he returned his attentions back to Lachesis. As he did, he heard her ask, "Was there something you needed from him?"
Realising he needed to explain himself he said, "Um? Well yeah you see I-"
"Mew..."
Spooked as this single soft echo escaped from his bag, Kagi froze! Why was did it have to call out right then!?
Lachesis quiet as the noise settled into her mind asked, "What was that?"
"Um..." Sweating Kagi then said, "Uh? I'm hungry?"
Cocking her head to the side, she repeated, "Hungry?"
Nodding, Kagi explained, "Yeah, I haven't had anything in a while and I guess it-!"
"Mew...mew...mew..."
Freezing again, Kagi stopped. Looking back to Lachesis, it was clear that she didn't believe him. Looking at him with narrowed critical eyes, she told him, "I do not believe those are the murmurings of your digestion tract, Kagi." Then she added with a commanding tone, "I want you to present it to me, that which is making those sounds."
Seeing that he was caught dead, there was no way the young boy could argue his way out of this. So with defeat, he put the bag of medicine dow beside him and reached for his backpack, however before he went to bring it directly to her, he said, "Just please... be gentle to him."
"Gentle?" the young girl asked, for she still didn't understand what Kagi was talking about.
However he didn't answer her with words, instead slowly but carefully, he lifted the delicate item from his bag and walking over to her, he finally presented it to her, within his open palms.
There before the young girl, she saw the small weakened creature breathing in and out weakly, with shivers. It was orange in colour with three brown stripes on its back. Seeing it, her eyes widened and as she looked at it, after a moment she asked astonished, "Is this...a kitten?"
Kagi nodded, then he said sadly seeing it continue to struggle with it's illness, "Yeah, I found him when I went into the city with the Doctor... when I did, I..." His voice catching in his throat painfully, he went on to say with his eyes watering, "I couldn't leave him."
Quiet as this was explained to her, Lachesis then responded gently, "I see..." She then gently lifted her hand and placing it upon the kitten's chest. She felt it rise and fall, slowly with it's terrible shivers as she closed her eyes.
Seeing her do this in such a solemn manner, Kagi then said closing his eyes and shuddering, hating his helplessness, "I just don't know what to do! I mean, this little guy is gonna die and-!"
"No he won't," Lachesis interrupted.
Blinking his eyes open quickly with surprise the young boy uttered, "What?"
"He won't pass away," with that opening her green eyes, she explained to him, "We can heal him."
Truly surprised to hear this, Kagi then stammered asking, "We, we can!?"
With a single nod, Lachesis then explained, "Yes," with that she paused for a moment and asked, "Do you have the medicine that was meant for me?"
Quiet for a moment as this question was put to him, Kagi then remembered, "Oh yeah! Yeah of course I do, hang on uh?" Then realising he would need to put the kitten down before he could fetch the requested item, he asked, "Lachesis, could you hold on to this little guy for me?"
Hearing him ask this of her, the quiet girl then responded simply, "Yes." With that holding her hands out quietly, she watched as Kagi gently and carefully transferred the kitten from his hands and allowed it to rest within her own.
Glad she was being gentle with him, Kagi stepped away. Then quickly he went and grabbed the medicine bag, picking it up he rushed straight back, while opening it hurriedly he asked her, "Okay? So what do we do now?"
Lachesis quietly thought to herself and then said, "He needs to take it orally," looking to Kagi she told him, "Put some of the medicine onto your little finger, a few drops at most should be enough to help."
Nodding quickly as she said this, Kagi went to go and do just that. But first, carefully he turned the kitten over, making it lie on its back. Doing this, he then gently soaked his right pinky finger with the green medicine. Getting what he felt was enough medicine on it, he turned back to the small kitten and told it, "Okay, here you go little guy!" However as he put the liquid up to the kitten's mouth, it didn't open. Desperate Kagi told it carefully, "C'mon, it'll be alright! It'll make you better, please open up! Please!"
However the kitten didn't open it's lips. Shivering with worry, Kagi didn't know what to do!
But the voice of calm came again, as Lachesis instructed him, "It's too weak to open it's jaws, you must put your finger directly into it's mouth and let it lick the medicine up."
"Um?" Kagi wasn't sure about that though and had to ask, "But won't I hurt him if I do that?"
"Not if you're gentle, also it won't be for long..." Lachesis then added, "You must hurry, we can't hesitate for too much longer."
As he heard this, Kagi then replied, "Yeah, okay I know..." with that he did as he was told. Gently, he pushed down a little on the kitten's lower lip and saw with surprise it opened up slowly. Seeing this gave the young boy a little hope, then as carefully as he could, he put his pinky into the kitten's mouth... he was still for a few moments as he did this. He was frightened this wouldn't work or-!
Lick...
Surprised at this soft weak sensation, Kagi was still but slowly but surely-!
Lick...Lick...Lick...
A small smile of relief came to his face, he was so glad. Pleased he looked to Lachesis and told her, "He's doing it! He's taking the medicine, Lachesis!"
Quiet as this was said to her, the young girl said simply, "Good." Then after some more quiet moments as Kagi fed the medicine to the kitten, he felt after a little bit the licking stop and as it eased, the children saw that his shivering beginning to calm down as well. The medicine was working!
Relieved with happiness seeing this occur, Kagi then said, "He really is gonna be okay!"
"Yes of course," As she said those words Kagi removed his finger carefully from the kitten's mouth. With this done, he heard Lachesis continue on to say, "We're just fortunate that this medicine is magically effective not just on humans but upon other lifeforms as well."
With a single nod, Kagi couldn't deny their luck. But at the same time, he couldn't help but realise, "Maybe that's why that dog did it?"
"Dog?" Lachesis asked.
Realising he had said his thoughts aloud, then seeing again his friend look at him puzzled. The young boy then explained to her what had happened that had led up to him retrieving the kitten...
…
After everything had been explained to her properly, Lachesis then said, "I see..." with that looking down at the now peaceful slumbering kitten in her hands, she said, "It might be then that this small one was close to those dogs."
"You think so?" Kagi asked her, surprised that she had come to a conclusion like this.
"It's the most logical conclusion I can reach," with that she recounted from her younger days, "For after all in nature, cats and dogs are at odds with each other usually...so for a dog to help a cat, is most unusual."
As she summarised this up, Kagi then had to admit, "Yeah that's true." Then looking at the kitten again, he couldn't help but say, "You sure are lucky little guy!" With that he stroked it's sleeping head gently and added, "So many people and other animals are looking out for you like this!"
Lachesis didn't say anything to this, then as Kagi continued to stroke the kitten's head for a little more, he realised, "Oh yeah! Y'know something?"
Looking at Kagi it was clear Lachesis didn't as she answered, "What?"
With that he said, "We really should give him a name! I mean since we've taken him in and everything!"
"A name?" Lachesis asked. Then as said this, she asked, "Do you mean a title?"
"Huh?" Blinking as she said this, Kagi asked her, "A title?"
Lachesis then explained, "Correct, just as I am called Lachesis, we simply refer to this creature as cat don't we?" Then seeing the perplexed look on Kagi's face, she asked, "Or is kitten a better one?"
Kagi then told her as her words settled into his mind, "Um no? Those are just labels that say what the creature is, that's not what we're doing here."
Now not understanding him, Lachesis then asked, "But it's label is kitten correct, so it would be simply that."
Sighing Kagi then said, "No! That wouldn't work!" With that he proceeded on to say, "I mean for goodness sake! What if we had another one here! What would we do then!? How're you supposed to tell the difference between them!?"
As this was asked of her, Lachesis was quiet...then she simply summarised, "Then you would add a number, making it kitten 01 and kitten 02."
"Urgh! No!" Kagi said annoyed, for this was not going to work! Then he said, "That's ridiculous! I mean just imagine if you got stuck somehow with like..." with that he thought to himself the most outrageous number he could think of, "2,553 kittens! What then! You wouldn't be able to label each one like that would you?"
Lachesis hearing this, was quiet... pondering to herself for a moment she had to admit, "It would be difficult yes." However she also had to add, "But why would we acquire that many kittens in the first place?"
"Urgh! You're missing the point!" Kagi told the girl, with that he then told her, "What I'm getting at, is that a 'Name' makes a person or animal unique and special, it's something that they and only they have." With that he added emphasising the fact, "After all there's only one me in this world, 'Kagi Tomo,' then for this little guy..." with that looking at the kitten again he added, "He'll have something special that we decide he has and only we."
As this was explained to her so passionately, it was clear that Lachesis may not have completely understood... however she did recognise one thing, "So? A name makes identifying someone easier...like in written text?"
"Yeah that's right?" Kagi answered though uncertain himself if Lachesis truly understood what he'd told her.
"Very well," Lachesis answered... then as she thought to herself, she said, "Then how about the name Oliver, for this little one?"
Surprised that she even knew of other names, Kagi then asked her, "Huh? Why that one?"
"It was one of the name's of a character in a book I read...a long while ago," Lachesis answered as she remembered one of the few things her mother had given to her while growing up.
"Hmm..." Kagi mumbled, however as he thought over and looked at the little kitten he uttered "Oliver, Oliver..."
The kitten within Lachesis's hands, then turned itself comfortably over as if it had heard the name. As he saw this, Kagi smiled and he thought to himself, "Yeah, I think that name will work with him, it's cute."
"Cute?" Lachesis asked.
"Yeah," Kagi told her, then he added brightly with a smile, "It's really adorable."
Seeing the young boy smile like this, Lachesis was quiet. Looking down to the kitten who was in her hands, she was still... but after a moment, she placed the kitten in her lap. As she did so, she looked to her friend and asked, "Kagi...would you name me?"
Quiet as this question was asked, Kagi then uttered baffled, "Huh?"
Lachesis then told him again with a little more clarity, "I would like it if you could name me...like we just did for this kitten."
Not understanding her, Kagi then asked, "Um, why though?
Quiet the girl thought to herself and then explained, "It is like as you said, for me, the term 'Lachesis' is a title that refers to my role. It is effectively a noun, not a name." With that looking down to the kitten she finished saying, "It is unlike what we have just given to Oliver just now."
"A noun?" Kagi then remembered what he had been taught and asked, "So...it's like what we were discussing before? Is it like...that word makes you into an item rather than a person?"
"If that's the way you wish to summarise it, then I would say that would be correct." Lachesis answered, however she added, "My Mother, decided on that title long before I was born... I was designed to become the tool that will exact her revenge."
"Revenge?" Kagi asked, he felt chilled hearing that one word... then as the young boy tried to imagine what it was she going to do to make that happen, he asked, "What does that mean for you to do exactly?"
Lachesis was quiet... it was clear she wasn't comfortable in answering that and so simply finished saying, "I'm not allowed to say."
"Oh..."Kagi uttered. It was clear he didn't know how to deal with this situation, so he decided, "Well, I don't think I can decide on something so important like that so quickly right now... so do you think I can have a little time to think of something for you?"
As this was said to her, Lachesis then made a simple nod and replied, "Very well." With that the two of them then arranged how they were going to look after Oliver and hide him from Rosso along with Doctor Sidolfus who would later return that night.

Seeing these events take place, everyone watching on had been amused to say the least. Ori standing near to Kagi at that moment couldn't help but snicker as he asked him, "Seriously? 2,553 kittens?"
Feeling embarrassed slightly by this memory, Kagi annoyed then said, "Hey I was a kid then! What kind of thing were you expecting me to say?" With that pouting away looking away to the side he added, "Beside I had to use a reference of some kind for an example, y'know!"
Smiling awkwardly herself Saria then said, "Yeah I suppose you did..." However trying not things dwell on that one strange event, she decided to ask him, "So were you able to look after Oliver well?"
As this question was put to him, Kagi replied, "Yeah for the most part." Then once more the monitor showed various images of himself, Lachesis and now Oliver all interacting together. As the images appeared on the screen, the young boy explained, "Basically while Lachesis stayed within her hospital room, I would bring in food and even design small little toys for Oliver to play with and since he spent so much time with Lachesis on his own...he became very attached to her."
Everyone was quiet as he heard this, but Nozomi as she listened to him then realised something and tried to ask, "Kagi? The name that you came up with for her was it-?" But there was no time for her to finish her question, for another important memory began to play out upon the screen...

Ever since the two children had started looking after Oliver all that time, the two had done their best to hide him from Rosso and Dr Sidlofus, feeding him and playing with him too. This had been going on now for about ten days and since they had named him, Kagi still couldn't think of a name to give Lachesis that would be good for her. It was clear she'd been really interested in gaining one, but giving her any old name like Lucy, Olivia or something just wouldn't fit her. He knew he had to special and something unique to her, but what though...?
"Sorry I'm late you two!"
Running through the door with his yellow rucksack on his back, Kagi was a little breathless as he finally made it into the recovery room.
"Kagi..."
"Meow!"
There though to greet him, was Lachesis sat upon her bed and a little ways from her at the foot of it was the marmalade kitten. Pleased to see them too, the young boy smiled and told them closing the door and then taking off his yellow backpack, "It took me ages to get everything done that Dr Sidlofus wanted me to do!"
As he continued to talk, Lachesis was moving herself from out of her bed and Oliver had already hopped off the bed, fully healed and now healthy. The orange kitten was eagerly making his way over to Kagi as he took out what he was looking for, "But on the plus side I managed to nab some food and other things."
With that getting down on the floor, the young boy revealed what he'd got for the hungry Oliver. He brought out a small tin and opening it up, there was revealed some lovely pink tuna fish. Almost as quickly as he opened it, Oliver's head was already in the tin and chewing down upon the fish inside, as he did this Kagi giggled. Then quietly, he placed a small cup with a cap on it, taking this off it was revealed to be full milk in for Oliver to have when he was finished.
Making her way over to them as the feeding was taking place, Lachesis was quiet. Kagi though couldn't help but admit as he watched the small kitten, "He's always so hungry! You'd think he'd never been fed a day in his life!"
Lachesis was quiet as she heard this remark, but after a moment she replied, "Smaller offspring need more nourishment to grow," with that looking over to the kitten, she added,"I think it is only natural then he'd be so enthusiastic to find and ingest what his body requires."
As she used complex wording like this, all Kagi could do was laugh awkwardly and reply, "Yeah, I guess that's true!"
Then as he finished some quick sips of milk, Oliver wandered back over to the duo. Then getting on his hind legs, he moved his front paws up and placing them down upon a warm side, he mewed up to Lachesis happily.
Silent as he did this, Lachesis only stared back down at the orange kitten.
Kagi looking on at this interaction couldn't help but think it was so cute. In the recent past he wouldn't have been able to read Lachesis's expression at all, but now he could see the curious stare she was giving Oliver. Seeing her be so clueless, he couldn't help but smile and giggle again, saying, "Looks like he really likes you, Lachesis!"
Puzzled by this, the girl cocked her head to the side and repeated, "Likes?"
Nodding, Kagi replied, "Yeah! He adores you, it's so cute!"
Silent still as she heard this, the young girl looked down to the kitten again. Then after another moment, she bent down picked him up and held him in her hands, still looking at him curiously. Oliver looking back at her quietly though, simply smiled and then leaning his face towards her, he licked one of her diamond cheeks showing his affection.
The young girl's eyes widened in surprise, but then after another moment she felt something...a gentle warmth that was enveloping her young heart. As this occurred, she moved her hands and arms, making a safe warm cradle that Oliver happily nuzzled into.
Seeing her do this act, Kagi was really pleased. He was so glad to see that Lachesis liked Oliver too. Then as he thought to himself he realised, "Lachesis, I've been meaning to ask you?" With that as she turned her green eyes to look at him, Kagi asked, "Is Oliver the first pet you've ever had?"
"Pet?" Lachesis repeated. Then looking down to Oliver, who was now purring into her arms, she looked back to Kagi and asked, "What is that?"
Kagi then was given his answer in seconds and he said, "Well... it's an animal, that becomes a companion to you, a friend! Someone's who's there when you need them in a small way."
"I see..." Lachesis replied as she thought to herself. Then as she did this, she looked to Kagi and asked, "Are you a pet to me then?"
"Pfft!" Kagi then couldn't believe what she was saying! Immediately he told her, "I'm not a pet! Do I look like an animal to you!?"
"Oh?" The clueless girl replied, then as she thought to herself, she asked, "Then what are you to me in this moment of time?"
Sighing, Kagi then informed her, "A friend, that's what you call me now." With that looking over at Oliver, he stroked his head and added, "I'm there for you, but I can help more in a way that Oliver here can't." With that turning his attentions back to her, he asked, "Do you understand now?"
Lachesis was silent, however as she made her considerations she responded, "I believe so."
Kagi feeling a little uneasy asked curious, "You believe so?" To which Lachesis didn't respond to at all. So simply leaving at that, the young boy decided it was time for them to enjoy themselves
…...
….
..
After some more time had passed, the two children were now sitting upon the floor. Some colourful lots of papers were laid out and they'd begun their Origami again. Kagi had taught Lachesis the basics and she had mastered making simple dog and cat faces, as well as some fish shapes and her greatest accomplishment was the fox.
Lachesis though was now struggling for her next step in the making Origami, was the frog. For every time she tried to bend and twist the shapes that would be the legs and arms, she either ripped them or turned them about so crookedly they didn't resemble limbs at all.
She sighed with a disappointment at her failed fifth attempt and admitted, "This new method is...difficult."
Hearing her say this, as he finished making a small dragon origami. Kagi moved himself over to her and said, "Let me have a look?"
With that, the young girl presented him with what she had made so far. Taking it in his hands, the young boy studied it to see where she was going wrong. As he did this, making his way over to them was Oliver who was chasing after a small inflated ball Origami Kagi had made for him to play with, the small blue object collided with Lachesis's right hand.
Feeling this, the young girl seeing the ball picked it up and then looking to Oliver, she saw the quiet longing that what in his eyes for the object. Realising what his want was, Lachesis then gently launched the ball away for Oliver to happily chase after.
"Hmmm..." Hearing him this murmur, Lachesis turned back in his direction again. As she did, she heard him say, "I can see what's happening here," with that he passed some new paper to Lachesis again and said, "I'll show you what to do now." With that he went through the process carefully with her and taught her where she was going wrong.
"There just like that and..." with that as Lachesis did the last twists and turns of the paper, Kagi pleased told her, "There ya go! You got it!"
Quiet as she heard this praise, Lachesis looked over the frog in her hands. As she did so, gazing upon the creature, she couldn't help but comment, "It certainly is an odd creature."
Laughing as she said this, Kagi remarked, "Yeah they all are a bit! Including the real ones!" Then he couldn't help but remember and say, "They're known to be really slimey if you try and touch them!" With that thinking of an old memory, he added, "My sister freaked out when one landed in her hands one time, she screamed out gross and everything! She ran away home terrified after we went to the pond this one time."
Quiet as she heard this, Lachesis then replied simply, "I see..."
Then hearing this small pause, Kagi looked over at her and asked as he slowly realised, "Have you never seen a real pond or a frog either, Lachesis?"
To which the young girl replied, "I have learned of the terms in books," however she had to add, "But I have never seen a natural body of water that you speak of, nor have I ever laid eyes on a real amphibian."
Quiet as he heard this, Kagi realised the more he got to learn about Lachesis. The true reality of how confined she truly was, for in the time he had spent with her. He counted what she hadn't seen yet in her life, "No school, no animals, no grass or woods or the sea... you've never even seen a sun have you?"
Lachesis only shook her head, but she then corrected him saying, "I have been schooled as you know, I just have never been within an environment that would allow me to witness such items as you have described before." With that she added, "Otherwise I wouldn't be able to recognise the various terms you have given me."
"Yeah true..." Kagi admitted, however he couldn't help but add, "It's just, it's not fair though you haven't got the chance to experience all that... I mean, I think you'd love all of that stuff if you ever saw 'em!"
Lachesis couldn't think of what to say to this, but then after a moment she said, "It's hard to long for something that has been none existent in my reality," with that she had, "I'm not sure if I even have the capacity to long to that degree?"
Hearing this Kagi then just said, "Now that's just even more sad!" With that, as Lachesis turned to look at him again, he folded his arms and thought long and hard to himself... then after a little bit he concluded, "You know what!" With that punching a hand into his opened palm as he made his decision, he said, "I'll just have you come with me when I make my escape!"
Blinking as he said this, Lachesis asked, "Escape?"
Nodding firmly Kagi told her, "Yeah! I already decided a long time ago, that I'm gonna get out of here and escape from Rosso and her cronies!" With that he smiled and said, "But now, I got another ally on my side who can help me escape."
Silent as she heard this...Lachesis though had to say, "But I'm-!"
"Meow!"
Stopped from saying what she was going to, the girl saw that Oliver had made it back over with the ball to one side. As she saw this, Lachesis concluded what it must by the kitten was after, with that she picked up the ball and gently threw it away again.
However Oliver didn't chase after it this time. Instead he looked at her with sadness and lay himself down fully, looking down at the floor.
Not understanding this behaviour, she turned to Kagi and asked, "Why is Oliver so despondent?"
Hearing the question and seeing Oliver, the young boy replied, "I don't know..." with that moving over to the kitten, he stroked his head and uttered, "He might be depressed?"
"Depressed, why?" Lachesis asked.
Sighing, Kagi replied, "He might miss his old pals," then remembering the dog in the alley he concluded, "Like those dogs I was telling you about."
Quiet as she heard this, Lachesis then replied, "I see..." with that moving her own hands, she picked Oliver up. Then softly placing him on her lap, she stroked his head gently...seeing the sad way he acted was making her feel something again.
However unlike the warm sensation like before, this one was cold and muted. Looking at him with concern, she couldn't help but admit, "If there was some way to alleviate this sensation, I would like it if someone would have taught me how to."
Nodding, Kagi replied, "Yeah me too..." for humans was one thing to cheer up, but kittens on the hand were entirely a different story. With that as the two children were in silence, they tried to think of what it was they could do for Oliver.
…
Kagi thinking to himself, thought long and hard with his arms folded. Wondered what they could do for their small friend there and then? Lachesis on the other hand, continued her stroking, trying to do everything that she could think of to comfort the marmalade kitten.
Still in the midst of his thoughts, Kagi tried to think. Was there anything he brought with him that might help? He'd brought obviously the Origami paper, Oliver's snacks, a new blanket, some old string, a new clean plastic bag and some gloves to hold unmentionables that needed to be thrown away, some odd few snacks for him and Lachesis along with the-!
"I got it!"
Surprising both the quiet girl and kitten, the two watched the green haired boy run up to his bag. As he did so, he quickly rooted through it to find what it was he'd brought with him.
Seeing him become so excited and so suddenly, Lachesis wandered over with Oliver still in her hands. As she watched him with the kitten looking on puzzled, she asked him, "Kagi what're you doing?"
"Getting this!" The young boy beamed happily, with that he brought out what he'd been looking for.
There Lachesis saw was a small red and brown wooden object, it was spherical in shape with a pointed end with a long wind of white string wrapped around it. Looking at it, the girl asked him, "What is that?"
Kagi then told her, "An old string spinning top!"
"A Spinning top?" The girl repeated.
"Yeah!" With that getting it ready, he slipped the string around it's lower end above the needle. Then as he continued to do this, he explained, "I found some old things here and there and managed to make this new toy!" As he continued his wrapping, he couldn't help but admit, "Though I wish I could make something more fancy really," with his winding all set, he picked the item up and concluded, "But still, I made a few modifications which will let us have loads more fun with this thing!" With that he moved and-!
SPIN! SPIN! SPIN! SPIN! SPIN!
The wooden top was released from the fast moving string and quickly it began to spin here and about all over the floor. In darting circular motions, it almost looked like it was dancing as it moved around so fluidly.
Seeing this occur, Lachesis was surprised, but Oliver on the hand looked almost hypnotised by the spectacle.
Looking at them both, Kagi couldn't help but laugh seeing this. He then asked, "It's impressed you both that much, huh?" With that as he said those word, the spinning top came back to him hitting him in the ankle. As it did this, he picked it up then as he did, an idea came to him. Looking back to Lachesis he asked her, "Do you want to give it a try?"
Surprised he'd asked her, Lachesis asked, "Will I be able to?"
Laughing as she said this, Kagi replied, "Of course you can!" But he had to add, "Though I think you'll need to put Oliver down before we can continue."
As this was said, the young girl replied, "Very well," with that she lowered herself and releasing the kitten she said, "Excuse me, Oliver."
"Meow!" Came his simple reply.
With that picking herself back up, Lachesis walked over to Kagi. The young boy then quickly said, "Okay this is how you do it!" With that he gave the quick one over and showed her the idea of what it was she was supposed to do.
She listened quietly and taking Kagi's instructions in hand, she moved the way she'd been taught and-!
SPIN! SPIN! SPIN! SPIN! SPIN!
The spinning top immediately began to skate here and there all over the floor! Oliver seeing the spinning top do this, did what only a kitten could think to do! He began to chase after it!
Surprised seeing this, both children were quiet. Then Oliver skittered about here and there all over the floor trying to catch the spinning top, it looked like he had it when-!
BOING! BOING! BOING!
After every point he'd pounced on it, the toy had bounced right out of his hold. Making the small shocked kitten all the more determined to catch it! Seeing this funny sight, Kagi couldn't help but laugh loudly but as he did so, in another moment he was quickly surprised again as-!
"Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!"
Next to him, Lachesis who had only smiled before now was laughing loudly too! Gazing upon this, Kagi couldn't help but be amazed!
While the girl herself didn't even seem to have realised what it was she was doing. For looking at Oliver she told him, "Try again! You can perform better Oliver! Go!"
She was being enthusiastic now too!? This was just too many miracles for him to experience in just one day!
BOING! BOI-!
"Meow!"
Finally though the boisterous antics of the spinning top came to an end, as proudly at last! Oliver caught the item in his mouth. Walking over, he proudly displayed his catch to his friends.
Bending down quickly, Lachesis taking the spinning top continued to smile and told the small kitten, stroking his head, "Well done! I knew you could do it if you tried!"
Seeing her do this and hearing these words, Kagi then thought to himself and he realised...he knew at last what it was he could call her. Getting down on his knees, he told her, "I'm glad you guys had so much fun there."
Nodding, Lachesis smiling said, "Yeah!" Then she couldn't help but ask him, "How did you make that toy jump about like that?"
With that Kagi explained, "I fine tuned the needle with some springs, so that when it was pressed down, it would move up and down like that." With that stroking Oliver's head, he added, "I'm just glad that it worked better than I expected."
"Meow!" Oliver uttered happily at the touch.
Continuing to smile, Kagi looking to Lachesis then told her, "And...thanks to this moment I finally figured out what name to give you."
Surprised by this sudden revelation, Lachesis asked him, "You have?"
With a nod, Kagi then told her what he decided, "Yeah...how about, Hari?"
Blinking as this word was said to her, Lachesis repeated, "Hari?"
Kagi then explained, "I thought about it just now and realised that name would suit you because," with that looking at the spinning top he told her, "That name will always link you back to here now, to this memory of us all playing together," then proudly he admitted, "And to my toy that's so awesome!"
Quiet though, Lachesis couldn't understand one thing, "But why not call me needle then? That is the point which the spinning top uses to dance upon right?"
As she asked this, Kagi then explained, "Because it's weird of me to call you 'needle,' but there are other ways to say the word and one language I know of dubs it as 'Hari' and I also know there's a festival that revolves around it too, where they pray to get better at stuff and that fits you too, because that's what you're always trying to do, right?"
Hearing this explanation, the girl was quiet and as she made her considerations she replied, "Yes that's true."
With a nod, Kagi then said, "There you go then, Hari it is!" But quickly he realised, "Or...um? Sorry," with that he said scratching the back of his head awkwardly, "You can choose not to have it if you don't want it, I mean it's not really the cutest name around but-!"
"I like it," the girl said.
Surprised, Kagi looked to her and uttered, "Huh?"
She then said again, "I like it, I am happy to receive it." With that smiling again to him, she said, "Thank you for giving me a name now, Kagi."
Seeing her smile again like this at him, the young boy felt strange. It was so weird that he was the one who was doing this for. He almost felt like a mother hen or something? But on the other hand he was more happy then anything, so he told her with a small blush on his face, "Okay, well...I'm glad you've got a name now too, Hari."
The young girl then smiled, while Oliver looking between them both came to rest in Hari's arms. As she did so, the young boy then said, "It's just gonna be weird for a while for me getting used to calling you that." Then he quickly realised and began to tell her hurriedly, " Oh! But we can't have anyone else hear you being called that here, they might do weird things to you! Also don't write to me using that name either, otherwise it might blow our cover and-!"
As he continued to ramble on like this with his worried thoughts, Hari now only smiled as Oliver now relaxed happily into her arms. As she did so unbeknownst to the girl and boy, the red gem on Hari's wrist was glowing quietly with a gentle warm light...

"Tch! Such typical behaviour for children!"
Smiling as her cohort said this, Rosso though looking on at the scene that was displaying this heartfelt scene could sense what was occurring and realising her predictions were slowly coming to fruition, she knew now it was only a matter of time for her.
"So? How do you want us to proceed?"
Hearing this question being made to her, the sinister scientist then replied, "Our Lachesis will be out of recuperation at the end of this week and when that occurs," with that thinking of the various 'exercises' she had planned for her to do, she continued on to say, "She will be tempered into perfection." Then looking to Kagi, she added, "And the experiments to find out what Fragment he contains will also begin then too..." With that the next stage of the children's fates had been put into motion..
