SPOILERS FOR LOSTBELT 7
The Chaldea Security Organization had gone through so many impossible tasks and challenges over the years. From being forced to stop the Human Order Incineration Incident at the hands of Goetia, to the current Human Order Annihilation Incident led by the Alien God and the Crypters. The stakes were extremely high from the start and the Fujimaru twins have done their hardest to keep their heads above the waters of disaster despite how hard these incidents tried to pull them down and drown them.
They were not alone.
They had made many friends along the way, both in the form of heroic spirits who agreed to join their cause and heroic summons from another world who sympathized with their cause. Unfortunately for the latter, such sympathies began to waver after Chaldea was taken over by the Crypters and changed their objective from saving humanity to saving Proper Human History, even if it meant dooming worlds into oblivion.
It was the major point of contention between The Order of Heroes and Novum Chaldea, the remnants of Chaldea. This tension only became worse over time as the Heroes met, befriended, and later betrayed the very people in these alternate human histories by siding with Novum Chaldea. It was common for several Hero Summons to resign and head home, traumatized by the fact that they had doomed millions of people to their death.
Gudao couldn't blame them. It was one thing to hear of humanity being incinerated or annihilated by some external force like a Demon God or Alien God, it was another to be the one who was directly responsible for sending people to their deaths. If your world is not the one at risk, it is difficult to have the stomach to do such things and continue living with yourself as if nothing happened.
They could have just abandoned Earth, just come as refugees to Zenith and live out their lives as they were, but the twins couldn't do that. The Proper Human History Earth was their home, as flawed as it was, they couldn't just abandon it. Even if The Order of Heroes didn't stick with Novum Chaldea, the Fujimaru twins, and Novum Chaldea would have kept on marching on.
Thankfully they chose to stick by them, even if the Hero Summons grew more distant from him. That didn't matter now, because they could see the end of the tunnel, the final Lostbelt.
One final push, one final enemy to take down, only one final world to send to its pruning… Then it showed up.
The foreboding figure was the boogieman of the Moonlit world, the Ultimate One of the Oort Cloud, otherwise known as ORT.
The Fujimaru Twins were not just in over their heads, they were effectively chained to the bottom of an ocean, upside down.
This was a catastrophe because such a phenomenon was not meant to pass this early in the timeline. Perhaps in another world, further into the future, it would awaken in its entirety and unleash devastation upon humanity, but in this Lost Belt, it was hundreds of years too early.
Gudao and Gudako had done their best to beat the monster but it cost them nearly everything. With every phase, another heroic spirit, friends who they had spent years with, were devoured. Every Hero Summon that Chaldea had managed to convince to stay and help them resolve the Lost Belts had also been devoured by the monster. Out of all the losses, those were the hardest to get over, because, unlike Heroic spirits, most Hero summons were still alive.
That was the price they paid for deciding to stay to help the twins, and both Gudako and Gudao hated it, but it was a path that they had chosen.
Speaking of his beloved sister, she was currently being carried by Mashu, unconscious and with a bleeding head wound. If it hadn't been for Kukulkan, she too would have been devoured like the rest. Gudao, on the other hand, was already sporting several fractured ribs, a broken femur, and a concussion of his own. If not for Inigo helping him stay upright, he would have already fallen on the ground and been unable to get back up.
ORT had been a pain to fight, as it was something that had no concept of death and dealt so much damage to not only the world they were in but also their summons.
He had hoped they had beaten it. After so many sacrifices, and so many friends and family lost, he thought it would be enough.
Just when he began to relax and believe that the battle was over, that hope was obliterated before he could even properly relish it. ORT summoned itself as a Grand Foreigner, effectively doing the impossible.
The only remaining party members were Gudao, Lucina, Severa, and Inigo, all his Heroic spirits were gone, and now it was only four exhausted demi-servants, his unconscious sister, and himself that stood between humanity and complete annihilation.
Novum Chaldea stood no chance. They were as good as dead.
"We're screwed," Inigo said, a fearful tone laced in his voice.
"It isn't over until it's over!" Lucina was holding to her blade, the awakened Falchion, tightly. The blade, once pristine and powerful, was now covered with so many chips and cracks that it seemed like it would snap in half with the lightest touch.
Gudao looked toward his hand, there was only one command seal left to use. It was not even a blip in terms of power that ORT possessed, but it was his last show of defiance. He refused to let this setback get him down. He clenched his fist and prepared to use it.
"Well, spoken cousin!"
A familiar voice rang out on the battlefield, causing Gudao to hold back from using his last command seal.
A figure came crashing down in front of them, landing on the metallic floor with a classic three-pointed pose that superheroes love to use. Except, rather than a comic book superhero, it was the white-haired Hero Summon from the World of Awakening, Owain.
"Owain, You're alive!" Severa said, happy to see Owain had survived the rampage of ORT.
"Of course I'm alive, the grand hero always arrives just in the nick of time before the final battle!" Owain gave them all a toothy smile, "now set your hearts at ease my friends." He turned to face the Ultimate One in front of him, "for you are about to witness the dark hero turn the tables on this extraterrestrial monstrosity."
Gudao, alongside everyone who was watching the ongoing confrontation, stared at Owain like he had grown a second head.
"Owain… Surely you are not planning to fight against it, alone?!" Inigo knew that Owain was a bit… eccentric with this approach to battles, but he had never done something as foolish as this prior. Had losing aunt Lissa again finally driven him over the edge of insanity?
Owain did not turn to look at his friends, but instead, his grin widened, "why yes! That is exactly the course of action I plan to implement!"
"You can't be serious! That thing is unkillable! Every heavy hitter servant, even Gods did not last a second against him! It killed everyone! What makes you think you can beat it?!" Severa yelled at his friend with justified concern.
"By my divine blood heritage, I swear to you that such a fate will not come to pass. Because at last, I deemed an opponent worthy enough to unleash my sword hand!" Owain curled up his sleeve, showing his trembling muscular forearm.
"You dunderhead! Stop playing around! This is a fight between life and death, not one of your silly delusions!" Severa was acting angry but the tone of her voice betrayed that image. Her tone teetered between worry and fury.
Owain didn't respond further and just closed his eyes in full concentration.
A large influx of magical energy started to gather in Owain's sword hand, more specifically the Brand of the Exalt on his arm. The brand turned blood red and glowed, it glowed with an angry red hue that engulfed the battlefield.
"For thousands of years, this power has lain dormant. From the Era of Gods to the Era of the Fae, and into the distant future land of Steel. This power sealed in my hand is destined to bring devastation upon the world in times of peace, but when the world is on the brink of ruin, it will emerge and restore order!"
Owain dramatically lifted his arm into the air, "Come forth, my dark ancient hidden power from the future, right now!"
The proud young man finished his grandiose speech and… nothing happened.
A loud slap reverberated across the battlefield, it was Severa's hand meeting her face. It was an action mirrored by the rest of the spectators, including those on Novum Chaldea.
Even ORT tilted its head, wondering what the human was playing at. It had absorbed so many humans, alongside their concepts, and mimicked them. But even it was unsure of what was going on. 'It's a waste of time.' It thought to itself and brought up its bladed hand, charging irradiated energy toward the humans in front of it.
Then an intense red light engulfed the area, but surprisingly, it didn't come from ORT, but Owain's 'sword hand.'
The light then suddenly and violently shone white-hot and blinded all but Type ORT with its intense photons.
When it died down, a new figure stood where Owain once was. Rather than his signature brown outfit, a jet black armor now covered the body of the young man from head to toe. The armor had spikes protruding from several areas of his body, most notably his wrists and two long ones on his black helmet, which made his armor almost look insectoid in appearance.
"..."
The onlookers stared at the figure in awe and could not help but compare just how polarizing he appeared to the usual Owain. Was he Owain? Or Was he someone else?
"Prepare yourself, Aristotoles! For you will face the true might of my Fell hand!" The black armored figure said, his slightly muffled voice echoing due to his suit of armor.
With that line uttered, all doubt was erased from the spectators' minds. That's Owain alright.
The armored swordsman lowered his closed fist toward his side and relaxed his grip. A small crystal appeared in his hand.
All of a sudden, ORT screeched and started to build an exorbitant amount of energy, almost as if it was in a panic.
Owain clenched his fist again and then out of the blue, a mass of crystal sprung forth from his fist, and it kept on growing and growing. One second it was a small seed, the next the blade grew to match the size of ORT.
"The size leaves much to be desired, but then again, your current form is also not quite as grand as your true self. So it will do."
ORT quickly recovered and reassessed Owain. Sensing the danger immediately made to release its energy, the amount released would be enough to kill anything within the next 5 kilometers. Sensing its intentions, Owain blocked the energy attacks, shielding the Last Master of Chaldea and his vessel's companions.
ORT continued to release blast after blast, but Owain stood firm and protected his friends. Then, it ran out of energy once more, but it almost immediately continued to accumulate energy once more.
Owain's time traveler companions and Mash were protected due to their demi-servant status, so it was also not an issue for them, but had Gudao or Gudako not had their special suit on, they both would have died from exposure to the radiation being generated by ORT.
The black swordsman, seeing his companions were in good health between him and The Spider, decided to not worry and focus on his fight.
He bent his knees and without warning, he disappeared from view, before anyone had time to process what happened, a loud sonic wave hit the Chaldeans.
While everyone had been too slow to react to Owain's movement, ORT had anticipated this and met his blade blow for blow. Despite the awkward position of its arm blades, it managed to perfectly keep up with and counter Owain's attacks.
The flurry of impacts between True Ether and Grain colliding sent shockwaves across the ship the protagonists were standing on. So many of those forces being unleashed at that frequency nearly caused his friends to fall off the platform.
The fight between the TYPE and the Chinnibyou of The World of Awakening raged for what seemed like hours, but in truth, it only lasted five minutes before it came to a screeching halt via a downward swing from Owain.
The Black Knight stared into the yellow, featureless face of his opponent. His face was covered by metal but inside, he held a smirk so vicious, he snarled out his next words.
"You're quite the annoying bug aren't you? Even in your weakened state, you managed to hold up against me like this. Sadly, my strength in this vessel is significantly weakened as well."
Before ORT could react, Owain kicked him away from himself.
An astronomical amount of energy began to accumulate around his blade, so much so that fluctuations in time-space were clearly visible to everyone who took in its majesty.
Alarms began to blare inside the Novum Chaldea control room. Despite the sirens blaring all around them, many of the workers were still taken aback by the sheer scale of the battle.
"Let's see if you can parry this, SLASH EMPEROR!"
The massive blade, contrary to its size, was even lighter than paper, moved faster than even Achilles, and hit stronger than Rhongomyniad.
Meanwhile, ORT unleashed a final attack aimed straight at the swordsman. Rather than a huge wall of gamma radiation, flames, and death, it concentrated that power into a single point. A beam attack the size of a micron aimed straight at Owain's head.
For any lesser swordsman, that would have been the end. Ort would win and proceed to murder the remaining humans standing behind its opponent. Unfortunately for ORT, its attack was mercilessly cut in half by the swordsman's blade, which thankfully also protected the comrades behind him, who were in the line of fire.
The blade never faltered and in a nanosecond, it cut through the crystallized Grand Foreigner's body like a molten blade through butter.
ORT stood motionless after the attack, then its body slid apart in twain before splitting off into two halves like an apple. Its crystallized innards were visible for all to see.
Owain, seeing the death of the enemy, nodded to himself before shrinking his blade back into a small seed and reabsorbing it back into his body. He turned his back to the defeated foe and walked toward his friends, who were still looking at the scene with disbelief.
Then the crystalline corpse exploded, causing the group to flinch, but not Owain.
He did it. Owain actually did it. He killed ORT! For good this time!
The black armored hero took off his helmet, showing off his wide smile to his friends, "See, I told you I would take care of it, didn't I?"
Author's Note: Bet you didn't expect that, did you? It's all doom and gloom for the villains until the chunni gets overwhelming power to back up their delusions and things get… atomic. Or in this case, Ado Edem.
I said I would not delve into the Lost Belts in the main story, but omakes and servants are fair game.
Thanks for reading.
