Sister Fanfic: Serious Side Reels - A Grand Order of Heroes Side stories

"Ah, Mother! So this is where you have hidden yourself!" Lissa turned away from the gossip she was having with Mikoto and Corrin, her eyes falling on the very excited-looking Owain marching towards them.

"Greetings, my fair ladies. I apologize for interrupting your moment, but I have something of great importance to share with this beautiful princess next to you, ladies."

Mikoto shook her head. "It is no issue. I am in no position to come between a mother and her son."

"Excellent! Thank you, Your Grace, Corrin. And Mother! You are looking just as beautiful as the day I first met you!"

Lissa, rather than being exasperated by his eccentricity, simply smiled at her son's strange comment, as she had long grown used to it. "And you are still the same Owain as when I first met you that fateful day."

The young man coughed into his fist before saying, "Owain? I do not know of such a person. Although he sounds like quite the handsome and brave swordmaster."

Odin then leaned in so that only his mom could hear him, his cheeks tinged red in embarrassment. "Mom... It's Odin now. Odin! I need to stay in character, or else my cover will be blown!"

Lissa turned to Mikoto and Corrin, who were looking at their exchange with smug smiles on their faces, and then rolled her eyes back to her son. "Okay, Odin. Is there something you wish to tell me?" she asked.

"I am not a man who simply gives empty platitudes; I bring gifts as well." He flicked his hand, and like magic, a bouquet of flowers appeared in his hand.

"Happy Mother's Day."

"Oh my Naga! Thank you, Owain! You are the best son a mother could ask for!"

Odin released a small grumble before composing himself. "Well, yes. Only the best of sons could claim such a title! Especially after my perilous journey across the land to put together such a gift."

In other words, that meant he had searched through every shop in town to find her flowers. At least that is how Lissa interpreted his strange speaking habits. Even though she was still not used to being a mother without having given birth yet, she still loved her son and understood him enough to interpret his speech.

"Do you wish to join us for tea?" she asked.

"Alas, I must apologize for doing this to you, Mother, but I still have another present for another lucky lady to deliver. She will be most upset with me if I forget."

"Well, alright then. I guess I can let you go this time."

"Thank you, Mother! Truly, I do not deserve you! Fare thee well, Mother, Lady Mikoto, Corrin."

And with that, Odin went off in another direction. Before he got out of earshot, Lissa yelled out, "Don't forget to say hi to Orochi and Ophelia for me!"

"I won't!" was the last thing he said before he was gone.

"You know, it doesn't matter how many times I hear it, but I still cannot believe your son managed to get hitched with Orochi of all people," Mikoto said after watching the exchange. "I honestly never thought I'd see the day."

"I am just happy my Owain managed to find himself a nice woman... I just wish that he didn't make me a grandmother so soon."

Mikoto hummed before taking another sip of her tea. "It's a natural part of having children, Lissa. You have to come to terms with their quick growth."

"Well, yeah, but my Owain is still a toddler. So it still gives me a bit of whiplash when I see him with a wife and daughter after I changed his younger self's diapers."

"Tell me about it…"

Lissa turned to Corrin with an inquisitive look before realization struck her. "Oh right. I forgot that you are one of my people. What was his name? De-err, Diyler?"

"It's Dwyer. Apparently, he is Corrin and dear Jakob's son." Corrin gave her mom an incredulous look before she looked to the ground in embarrassment.

Corrin fidgeted in place. "C-can we talk about something else, please?"

"Oh honey, I know you must be having a hard time with it. Trust me, I know, but the more you ignore him, the worse your situation will get. You should at least consider talking to him; he is still family, after all."

Corrin stood up from her seat, taking a drink from her teacup before placing it on the table.

"Sorry, Mom, Lady Lissa but I just remembered something I forgot. I have to go. Happy Mother's Day." She leaned down and kissed her mom on the cheek before quickly excusing herself, not giving Mikoto a chance to say anything.

As she left, Mikoto's expression went from teasing, to concerned.

If there was one decision Corrin never regretted, it was answering Gudako's call. She would never have been able to meet her mother again if she had refused. She had barely gotten to know her own mother in her own world before she was torn apart from her. But here, in this world, she had the opportunity to spend time with her. Corrin cherished every moment she could with her mother when she could, but there were certain topics that she didn't feel comfortable discussing with her, or even with her Nohrian family.

"Oof!"

Lost in her thoughts, Corrin failed to pay attention to her surroundings, resulting in her bumping into someone as she turned the corner. Due to the size difference, she was knocked back and fell on her backside, while the person she bumped into recovered faster and was now attempting to help her up.

"You okay, M-I mean Corrin?"

Corrin froze in place when she heard that voice and looked up at the speaker. An uncomfortable feeling surged from the depths of her stomach, so intense that it nearly made her sick. It was Dwyer, the child of Jakob and... herself.

Corrin had been so focused on trying to reconcile the issues between Hoshido, Nohr, and Valla after defeating her father and ascending to the Vallan throne. She had been occupied with paperwork, attending diplomatic treaty signings, and overseeing reconstruction efforts following the war. These activities were crucial for her kingdom's healing, and she had dedicated years of effort to them, missing every opportunity to settle down and start a family with anyone.

By the time she realized it, everyone in her army had already paired off, leaving her as the sole loner amidst a sea of lovers. Of course, nobles tried to offer their firstborns as potential partners, but due to the nature of her position, she couldn't afford to appear biased towards either Hoshido or Nohr.

Thus, she decided to prioritize her duties and put thoughts of an heir and romantic relationships on the back burner. She continued to fulfill her sworn obligations, not expecting that love would enter her life again. However, when she received a plea for help from Chaldea and met Ritsuka, everything changed.

From that day on, she knew that if there was ever a time to find love, it would be her last chance. She decided to pursue it, even if Ritsuka couldn't immediately reciprocate due to his own responsibilities.

Arriving in Askr, she never expected to encounter parallel worlds where another version of herself had settled down and started a family. It was a surprise to see those worlds where her child with Jakob existed.

"Y-yeah. Thanks, Dwyer," she replied, taking his outstretched arm and using it to help herself up. Dusting herself off, she turned her attention to the weary-looking monk, who seemed to be searching her face for a trace of familiarity.

Corrin always tried to be friendly with all new summonings, but Dwyer's presence unsettled her. It was awkward to encounter a future version of her child with Jakob who referred to her as "mom." The situation was further complicated by the fact that the Dwyer she knew in her world was the son of Felicia and Jakob, but unlike her, Dweyer had it worse since he was the one witnessing his parents pursuing relationships with other people.

She didn't want to admit it, but Dwyer was partly the reason why she chose to go on missions frequently. He often stayed behind to handle logistics and tactics with the tacticians in Chaldea.

After months of avoiding him, she unexpectedly ran into Dwyer during one of her rare visits to Zenith to see her mother. Noticing that he was still staring at her, she let out an awkward cough, causing him to snap out of his daze.

"Is there something you need?" she asked, trying to break the tension.

"You've been avoiding me," Dwyer stated, his tone said matter of factly.

Corrin bit her lip and looked away. "I... Yeah, I have. Sorry."

Dwyer let out a sigh. "No, I understand why you would feel that way. I'm not as oblivious as my peers might be in this kind of situation. I know you're not really my mom, so I shouldn't expect you to embrace me with open arms."

Corrin couldn't help but blurt out the first thing that came to mind. "Sorry."

Dwyer rolled his eyes. "Oh, please don't even start with that. I've heard that apology enough from Sieg in the past week that I've become averse to the sound of it. But I digress. I don't care if you avoid me. I'm a big and smart enough boy to know that you're your own person."

Dwyer pulled out a beautifully wrapped box with a bow. "Regardless, I have half of your chromosomes in my body, so that qualifies you for a Mother's Day gift."

"Chromo-what?" Corrin responded, puzzled by the term.

Dwyer rolled his eyes again. "Just take the present. Please."

Corrin accepted the gift but didn't open it immediately. Instead, she cautiously sniffed at the box, her eyes filling with delight when she caught the aroma of chocolate. She couldn't resist and immediately tore into the box, staring at the chocolates in awe.

"...man, you two might have taken different paths in life, but you're still you..." Dwyer commented, observing her with a hint of nostalgia.

Corrin snapped out of her chocolate-induced trance and realized her mistake. She coughed into her fist. "Thank you, Dwyer."

"No problem. Happy Mother's Day. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to continue with my duties."

Corrin watched as Dwyer left, holding the box of chocolates in her hand. She looked down at the box and then back up at Dwyer for a few moments.

Damn it, now she felt guilty for avoiding him.
