Chapter 28

Just minutes after Kevin was born, William encouraged Jacob to come outside with the baby so they could announce he'd had a son. Renesmee didn't allow it initially. She told them the baby would not be announced until he was finished eating. Sara agreed and shoed William away to wait for Kevin to finish. Jacob rubbed Kevin's little head feeling the soft hair and smiled at Renesmee.

"The ceremony welcoming Kevin will be tonight?" Renesmee asked.

"No, not tonight. I'll have to run to the Hou tribe and invite my sisters, their husbands and their kids. It will be the night my family arrives. It will take them some time to arrive, but once they're here, we will celebrate."

"I'm excited I'll finally get to meet your sisters."

"They'll be happy to meet you too, I'm sure. You'll get to meet all my nieces and nephews too."

"What are their names?" Renesmee asked.

"Hell if I remember," Jacob joked and made Renesmee laugh. "I barely see them to be honest. My sisters keep telling me their names but I can never remember what they are."

"I'll have to ask them, then," Renesmee said and gave Jacob a small kiss. "My parents can always use the cart and we can have everyone here by tomorrow."

"If they'll permit me to use it," Jacob said.

"We'll be happy to come with you," Carlisle said. "We can leave after the announcement if you like."

"Not so soon," Renesmee protested. Kevin then finally finished his meal and took his mouth away from Renesmee's nipple. He began to whimper again, so Renesmee gently lifted Kevin to her shoulder and patted his back so he would burp, getting rid of bubbles in his stomach.

"Are we alright to take him outside?" Jacob asked.

Renesmee nodded with a smile and handed Jacob their son. Wrapped in a blanket and no longer crying, Renesmee gave Kevin over to Jacob so he could walk outside with him to present to the tribe. William was ready and obtained the people's attention while Jacob stood by his side.

"Everyone!" William said, making sure the crowd was silent. "What did you name him?"William asked Jacob quietly before making an announcement.

"Kevin," Jacob whispered back.

"Kevin," William said and repeated one more time to ensure he pronounced it correctly. "It is with great pleasure,"he finally began, "that I announce the birth of my grandson and Jacob's new heir, Kevin!" Everyone clapped in merriment and though they weren't sure what was said, the Cullens clapped as well.

While Jacob was outside with his father and the baby, Bella used the new found extra room and stepped inside the tent with Sokajili, who was working to help Renesmee discharge the placenta. She'd forgotten momentarily about this part. She'd helped with pregnancy before and, unfortunately, labor wasn't over until the placenta passed.

"How're you feeling, Renesmee?"

"Better," Renesmee said. "Still uncomfortable, but I feel better than I did a few minutes ago. Let's just hope the placenta doesn't take too long."

"I'm glad to hear it," Bella answered. She looked at Sara and smiled. "Is this your first grandchild too?"

"She wants to know if this is your first grandchild," Renesmee translated for Sara.

"Oh goodness no, I have several grandchildren already. This is just the first time I've been present when one of them has been born, so it's very exciting for me."

"She has grandchildren already with her two daughters, but this is the first time she's been able to see her grandchild born."

"Oh, I see," Bella said, then signed. "This would be much easier if she understood me."

"I assume this is your first grandchild?" Sara asked of Bella, which Renesmee translated.

"This is my first grandchild, yes. If you have other grandchildren, surely you must see them." Renesmee translated for Bella and Sara shook her head sadly.

"Sadly, I do not get to see my grandchildren very often. My daughters are with their husbands and they are among the Hou tribe. They're usually at least a half day's walk away from us at all times." Renesmee translated for Bella.

"That's unfortunate," she said sadly. "And here her husband is demanding we stay further away than that," Bella said to Renesmee.

"What William says goes, mother. I don't know what to tell you." Sokajili came back over and continued with Renesmee, causing her some discomfort until the placenta had passed. While he worked, Sara saw Jacob coming back to the tent and went right outside to meet him and to take Kevin.

"I've not gotten to hold him once," Sara protested with a smile. "Hand him over, Jacob." Jacob smiled and handed Kevin to Sara.

"How's Renesmee doing?" Jacob asked.

"She's doing alright. I'd say she'll be up and about by meal time."

"Why can't she be up now?"

"She's still in labor dear," Sara said with a teasing tone. "There's one more thing that needs to pass." Jacob looked at his mother strangely as she walked to Renesmee's family with the baby. Thankfully, Caevia was among the group speaking with them, so she was able to act as the translator while they all talked. Jacob returned to the tent and watched as Renesmee seemed rather uncomfortable.

"Are you alright?" Jacob asked, worried.

"Just waiting for the placenta to pass," Renesmee said rather frankly.

"The what?" Jacob said.

"It's just a part of childbirth," Renesmee said. "This'll be over within a few hours or so. It's nothing to worry about."

"Is that what's going on, Sokajili?" Jacob asked of his Uncle, who was getting some new herbs ready to refill the air with a calming mist.

"Is what what's going on?" Sokajili asked.

"Renesmee said she's waiting for something else to pass."

"Ah, yes, that's correct. She'll be alright Jacob, it's a normal part of the process. Just remain calm. Every first time father's the same. They worry themselves over nothing."

"Didn't Embry tell you about this when Caevia had their baby?" Renesmee asked with a light giggle.

"If he did, I don't remember," he mumbled. "Is there anything I need to do?"

"Just sit behind me like you were before. That helped me feel better." Jacob did as she asked and took his previous seat behind Renesmee, holding her up to his chest so she could relax as much as was feasible. "You don't need to bring Kevin with you to invite your family to the party do you?"

"No, we don't. It would've been just me and dad, but under the circumstances, it'll have to be us and whoever will be driving the cart up to the Hou tribe. I suspect we'll have to spend the night either way."

"We can get everything ready in the meantime."

"They'll get everything ready," Jacob clarified. "You don't worry about a thing."

"I should at least help a little. It's our son's party after all."

"You just had a baby. You get to relax," Jacob said before placing a kiss on Renesmee's cheek. "From what I've seen, babies require a lot of attention." Renesmee smiled as Jacob kissed her cheek again. "So," he said in a slightly lower voice. "I don't know if I'm allowed to ask this question," Jacob began. He imagined since Edward wasn't yelling at him, perhaps it wasn't as sensitive as he thought. "I know Sokajili told Embry he and Caevia shouldn't have sex right after they had their son, but Embry wasn't told exactly how long."

"The general rule Carlisle always gave his patients was 2 or 3 months. I would say 2 months would be a safe bet for the two of us. What month was Embry Jr. born?"

"I don't know," Jacob said. "All I know is it was in the summer."

"Early summer?"

"Not that early," Jacob said. "Maybe midway through summer?"

"Late June sounds like a safe guess." Renesmee turned her head to kiss Jacob's cheek. Roughly an hour later, the last of the birthing process finished. Jacob stayed with Renesmee just a little longer while Sokajili helped her recover until Renesmee suggested he and her father, or whoever would be riding with him, went to the Hou Tribe to invite them to the celebration of their son. When Jacob stepped outside, he saw his mother cuddling and cooing the baby with a big smile. His father was sitting with Sara smiling at the baby though he wasn't quite so giddy.

"Will your father be coming with us?" Edward asked when Jacob was outside.

"Yes, he will be."

"Also, Jacob, I have something that you and Renesmee will need to sign." Jacob gave Edward a mean look, assuming the worst given previous things he'd been asked to sign. "Calm down, Jacob, it's nothing like that," Edward said with a heavy sigh. "It's something called a Birth Certificate."

"A Birth Certificate?"

"Yes," Edward nodded. "It's a small document that will have Kevin's name as well as yours and Renesmee's as the parents and this documentation is made available for government use. He will be a citizen of the United States in the eyes of the law."

"Why is that necessary?"

"It's necessary because I would like my grandson to have opportunities open to him. As many opportunities as is feasible given the circumstances," Edward said, mildly annoyed.

"And what 'opportunities' are you referring to exactly?"

"Anything that will be available to him once he's grown. There's more to life than this little village for him, Jacob. It's not my responsibility to convince you of that, only to do my part and open the world to my grandson."

"Are you telling me a little piece of paper is going to make the world treat him as an equal?" Jacob harrumphed a sarcastic laugh. "Well, shit, if it's that easy I might find a way to obtain a 'Birth Certificate' myself."

"If you can teach your parents how to spell their names, Jacob, then by all means," Edward answered back just as sarcastically. "Now go fetch your father and we'll leave."

Jacob stared at Edward, somewhat challengingly, before he went to retrieve his father so they could leave for the Hou tribe. The group that left was small; just Edward, William and Jacob. Edward stayed up front directing the horse while Jacob and William stayed in the cart with Jacob directing Edward on where to go, though never needing to say it out loud. When they were getting close, Jacob made sure his head was in view, but that didn't stop the Hou tribesman from being iffy at the site of Edward. He saw Quitahka come into view to see what all the fuss was about. When he noticed Quitahka getting agitated, Jacob jumped down from the cart and walked around so that he was fully in view. Quitahka calmed down when he saw Jacob, and William didn't appear until the cart came to a complete stop.

"Who's the pale face?" Quitahka asked when he and Jacob were before one another.

"He's Renesmee's father."

"So Renesmee's returned? That's wonderful news."

"It gets better," Jacob said. "As it turns out, she was pregnant before she left."

"So you've have a child?" Quitahka asked with a smile.

"A son," Jacob answered with pride. "His name is Kevin. He was born today and we're having a celebration for him tomorrow."

"So soon?" Quitahka asked.

"That horse and cart Renesmee's father has made the trip here much faster. It should be able to carry you, Paul, and my sisters easy enough."

"We're happy to come in that case," Quitahka said. "It's a relief to hear her father appears to like you."

"'Like' is a strong word," Jacob joked with a dark laugh. Jacob saw his sisters and Paul start coming their way and Edward and William finally made it to the group as well.

"It's a pleasure to see you as always, Kayechiwetchwe," Paul said. "And Jacob," Paul smiled, "you look to be in much better spirits. I take it Renesmee has returned?"

"Not just returned, but she's given him a son," Kayechiwetchwe said. "Hence the reason we're here."

"A son?" Rachael said. "That's so exciting! I'm so relieved she was able to return."

"Does that mean we will get to meet her soon?" Rebecca asked.

"You'll meet her tomorrow. Her father will be taking us back to the tribe in the morning." Jacob pointed at Edward and his sisters looked at the man rather cautiously.

"He's a cold one?" Rebecca asked.

"Yes, he is," William said, "but this one and the rest of her family have thus far proven themselves to be trustworthy. One of them, Carlisle his name is, was very gracious and more than adequately agreed to stay in keeping with our requirements for their presence to be tolerated."

Jacob couldn't help but laugh at his father's comment. Edward looked at Jacob and just winced a little when Jacob mentally translated his father's statement. "Don't be offended, Edward."

"I'm not," Edward said. "So we leave first thing tomorrow morning. That is agreeable with everyone?"

"Edward asked if leaving first thing in the morning is alright," Jacob repeated to the group.

"It can be in the morning, but not first thing. We must ensure the children are all ready as well,"Quitahka said.

"I hope none of you mind being close together then," William laughed. "There isn't quite that much room in the back of that cart. Who shall keep an eye on the village while you're away?"

"Our Medicine Man will manage just fine I'm sure,"Paul said.

"So how is Renesmee feeling since having the baby?"

"She was doing alright when I left,"Jacob answered Rebecca. "That bloody….thing, whatever it was, finally came out by the time I left."

"Oh, that thing," Paul shuddered and Rachael elbowed him.

"It is not so gruesome as to warrant such a childish shudder," Rachael said.

"I can't understand how you didn't shudder," Paul said.

"So when did Renesmee have the baby?" Rebecca said.

"She had Kevin this morning,"Jacob answered.

"Just this morning? Goodness, she must be exhausted!" Rachael said.

"She's tired, but she's tough. She'll be alright by tomorrow I'm sure."

"Jacob," Edward said. "What did they say about leaving first thing in the morning?"

"They need time to get the children ready. We'll leave then," Jacob answered.

"How many?" Jacob took a moment to think of everyone so he could give him a number, but Edward had it the moment he thought of everyone. "I hope they don't mind sitting on top of each other. That's exactly what they'll be doing."

"The kids already sleep on top of each other as it is," Jacob joked. "They'll probably sleep through the whole ride." Edward just sighed and shook his head. "What? It's not so bad. My sisters, Seth, Leah and I did the same."

"That hardly makes an improvement on the image," Edward muttered. "To think, all my grandchildren will be sleeping on top of each other in a tent like hamsters."

"What the hell is a hamster?" Jacob asked.

"What is the pale face complaining about?" Paul asked.

"Nothing important," Jacob said, waving his hand dismissively. "Just pale faced problems."

"So trivial matters?" Quitahka joked.

"Very trivial," Jacob said. The group, except for Edward, laughed. Though Edward knew they were making fun of him, he didn't understand what their joke was. He wasn't used to being out of the loop.

"Perhaps I should have Renesmee teach me Quileute," Edward said, causing Jacob to suddenly stop laughing. "I don't care for being left out of a conversation."

"You're already a mind reader, Edward," Jacob said. "You can stand not to know what's going on from time to time." Jacob made a mental note to himself to talk to Renesmee about this the moment they were all back home.

Quitahka, having realized he'd had his guests standing around for so long, invited them to come further into the village and make themselves comfortable so they could talk further about the impending celebration. Rachael and Rebecca asked about the baby and what he must look like. They asked if he looked the way Seth and Leah did: clearly tanner than the pale faces yet still having their features in the face. Jacob told of how the baby, while tanner than Renesmee, was paler than him and had lighter hair, closer to a reddish brown color. Now that he thought of it, Kevin's hair was rather similar to his fur when Jacob was as a wolf. William commented that, had he not known better, he could easily mistake the boy for a pale face. While Jacob was not absent, the boy clearly favored his mother's pale faced attributes. The family was intrigued to hear that Kevin had his own little gift similar to Renesmee's as well.

Jacob and William kept up their conversation with the family well into the night even after most of the village went to sleep. It was only upon Edward's reminder that they had to leave early in the morning in order to return to the Quileute tribe in time for Kevin's celebration. Jacob and William stayed in the medicine man's tent since it was only him and his wife. They were an older couple with children that were long since grown. Edward stayed outside with the horse through the night just waiting for them to wake up. It was just after dawn that people started coming out of their tents to begin their day. It was a little later in the morning that Jacob and William came out of the Medicine Man's tent, both of them finishing off some potato cakes and appearing ready to leave. Jacob looked in Edward's direction and thought for him to wait one minute while he and his brother-in-laws got all the kids together: all seven of them. Six boys and one girl. They managed to all get in the back of the cart with Jacob and William needed to sit up front with Edward for extra room.

"So how did you sleep, Edward?" Jacob joked.

"Like a rock, thank you," Edward played along. "There's something else we should talk about."

"You don't have another thing for me to sign do you?" Jacob said.

"No, it's nothing you have to sign. Your people have your traditions and so do ours. Bella and myself are Catholic, Renesmee was raised Catholic, and we'll need to start making arrangements for Kevin to be baptized."

"It's just throwing water at him isn't it? We can do that easily enough at the tribe."

"It has to be holy water, Jacob," Edward sighed. "We'll find a way to explain you to the priest, but we should have a ceremony for Kevin. Bella will make his baptismal gown and we can see about getting him baptized next week." Jacob took a deep breath and said nothing. "I appreciate you not arguing with me," Edward said.

"It can't hurt I suppose," Jacob responded. "If Renesmee wants to do that, then I have no objections."

"Certainly a better reaction to this than the birth certificate." Jacob just shrugged without saying more on the matter. They arrived at the Quileute tribe within an hour and when they arrived, the children all hopped off with Rebecca and Rachael following as they all approached Sara. Sara eagerly embraced all 7 children, the youngest of whom barely keeping up having only been walking maybe a year.

Edward finally brought the cart to a stop so the rest of them could all get off. Renesmee stayed next to Caevia. The two of them were both holding their sons among a group of women that were cleaning clothes. Jacob went to Renesmee after the two looked at each other and smiled. Quitahka and Paul followed him, eager to finally meet the pale faced woman that Jacob spoke so glowingly of.

"Renesmee," Jacob said as he kneeled down next to her. "How are you feeling?"

"Better," Renesmee said. "I'm still sore, but that'll pass soon enough." Then she looked at the two men that had followed Jacob over. "Are these two Quitahka and Paul?"

"Yes, they're my sisters' husbands. This is Quitahka," Jacob pointed at Quitahka, then at Paul, "and this is Paul."

"It's nice to finally meet the two of you. I've heard a lot about you," Renesmee said with an inviting smile.

"She speaks your language well," Quitahka praised. "It's nice to finally meet you too."

"She is beautiful just as you've said," Paul replied. Then he looked at Kevin. "And your father is right to say your son favors your wife in appearance." Renesmee laughed a little and looked down at Kevin, rubbing his little cheek as he slept.

"He looks more like Jacob than I think you give him credit for." Having had a sufficient reunion with her daughters and grandchildren, Sara led them all to Renesmee so they could meet. Rachael was the first to approach to see the infamous Renesmee.

"So this is Renesmee?" Rachael said as they approached. Renesmee looked up at them and smiled.

"You must be Jacob's sisters."

"Yes," Rachael nodded. "I'm Rachael and this is Rebecca." Rebecca smiled when Rachael pointed her way.

"It's a pleasure to meet you all." Renesmee looked at all the children ranging in age from roughly 7 to 2. "These are your children?"

"Three of them are mine," Rachael said. She presented one of the older boys, the only girl and a slightly younger, though not the youngest, boy, presenting them in order of their age. "This is my eldest son Pautueh. This is my daughter Hataelee and this is my youngest son Kae." The children all moved their heads in acknowledgement and said, "It's nice to meet you," to Renesmee.

"It's nice to finally meet you. And what are all your names?" Renesmee asked of the four remaining boys, the oldest of whom appearing near the same age as Pautueh and the youngest appearing to be a toddler. And as Rachael had, Rebecca introduced her sons in order of their age.

"This is our eldest son, Quicheait," she said, patting the young boy on the head. "This is Elsuitte, Vihota, and our youngest, Kehsawk."

"It's nice to meet you," Renesmee said and the boys, with the exception of Kehsawk, returned the sentiment. Kehsawk was staring at his feet. He seemed to be tired.

"So this must be Kevin," Rebecca said, looking at the baby in Renesmee's arms.

"Yes, this is Kevin. He's sleeping right now, but I'll introduce you all properly when he decides he wants to be awake." They all shared a gentle laugh while Rachael and Rebecca kneeled down to get a closer look at the baby.

"He looks so different from what I imagined. I was thinking he'd look like Leah and Seth, but he's so much paler. His hair is lighter too, definitely closer to brown than black."

"He does remind me of Jacob, though," Rachael replied to her sister. "Remember when Jacob was a baby? His nose and ears looked like this. It's the same chin too." Rebecca smiled fondly at the memory.

"Jacob was cute when he was a baby. It didn't last very long, though," Rebecca joked, causing Jacob and Rachael to laugh. "You were a little monster when you were a boy."

"I hope," Rachael joked, "for your sake that Kevin is not so naughty as his father."

"I suspect he'll be worse," Renesmee said and they all laughed.

"Where's everyone else?" Jacob asked after looking around and noticing none of Renesmee's family was there besides Edward.

"You mean my relatives?" Renesmee asked. "They went back to the house to do some work. They'll be back later tonight before the ceremony."

"Since everyone is at the house," Edward said, "I'll go there too. We'll make sure to be here before nightfall."

"How did you-"

"I'm a mind reader, Jacob. I already knew everyone was at the house. Rest assured your language is still secret safe from me." Renesmee laughed just a little when she saw how relieved Jacob was. Edward kneeled down and patted Kevin on the head. "We'll come and see you tonight, little man," Edward said with a smile before running off to the house. Jacob's sisters, their husbands and the children were stunned when they saw how fast he ran.

"So that's how fast a cold one runs," Quicheat said astonished.

"Don't worry, kid, we still run faster," Jacob joked.

"Well, that's a shame we can't see them until tonight,"Rebecca said.

"I'll give you a prior introduction," Renesmee said before taking a hold of Rebecca's hand. She showed Rebecca her mother's image and said it was her mother before Rebecca took her hand away, stunned.

"What was that?" She asked.

"What did she do?" Quitahka asked.

"I was just showing her my family,"Renesmee answered.

"I've told you about this, Quitahka. She can share her thoughts with a touch,"Jacob said.

"Oh, yes, you had mentioned that!" Rebecca said. "I'm so sorry; I didn't mean to jerk away. It just startled me."

"No need to apologize," Renesmee laughed. "I forgot to even mention it. Would you prefer I not continue?"

"Oh no, that's alright. Go right ahead."

With Rebecca's permission, Renesmee took a hold of her hand again and picked up where she'd left off, showing her Bella, then Carlisle and Esme, Emmett and Rosalie, and finally Jasper and Alice, introducing each of them accordingly. She did the same for Rachael, Paul and Quitahka. She did so for Quicheat as well, since he was curious to see how such a power worked. Renesmee spent the remainder of the afternoon getting to know Jacob's sisters while the rest of the village was setting up a large bonfire and preparing food for the celebration tonight. By the time it was almost dark, Renesmee's family finally returned for the celebration, making sure to bring food for everyone as well.

"You brought food?" Jacob asked when he saw Esme holding a large platter of bread, fruit he'd never seen before. Carlisle was holding a large pot of soup and Emmett was holding a pan filled with hot corn.

"Of course," Esme said sweetly. "It's only courteous to bring food to a social gathering. I hope everyone likes the food. I made all the bread this morning."

"It smells good," Jacob said. "I don't think I've had bread before."

"If my memory serves me well, it's very tasty," Esme smiled. "The soup is potato chowder. I hope that will be well received."

"Potatoes are always well received here," Jacob smiled back and helped them get the food situated with the rest of what was made.

"Jacob," Edward said once the food was arranged, "do you want to sign the birth certificate now or after the ceremony?"

"Now's as good a time as any," he said. "You said Renesmee needs to sign it too?"

"Yes, she does."

"Then I'll wait for her at our tent and we'll sign it." Jacob walked to the tent and waited for Renesmee to come in. She didn't have Kevin with her when she joined him in their tent, but she did have a pen and the birth certificate in her hand. "Where's Kevin?"

"Your mother has him," Renesmee smiled. "Well, let's sign this."

"What exactly will this do? You and me signing this I mean," Jacob asked.

"It'll make him a United States citizen." Renesmee grabbed one of their books so she could write Kevin's name on the paper first. She wrote his name, but stopped a second. "Should we give him my surname?"

"Cullen?" Jacob asked. Renesmee nodded. "Is it necessary?"

"I suppose not," Renesmee said. "I guess it's just strange not to." Renesmee looked at the paper a moment, and then she shook her head. "Another tradition my people have is the wife always takes her husband's name when they marry. You don't have a surname, so neither will Kevin nor I." Having come to that conclusion, Renesmee wrote down her name, using her maiden name, and then handed the paper, book, and pen to Jacob so he could write his name.

"So we just give this back to Edward and he'll do what he wants with it?"

"Essentially," Renesmee smiled and gave Jacob a kiss. "Let's get back outside. Our son's party will start soon."

Renesmee and Jacob gave Edward the signed Birth Certificate and shortly after, the bonfire was lit by Jacob and Renesmee while they held Kevin, welcoming him into the world. William and Sokajili told the story of Quiyaketa and Zaquitai, though further elaborated the story of their first son and predecessor. Sadly, in all the centuries past, his name had been lost, however his story was simple. He looked up to his mother and father and followed their example. William pointed out that as Jacob has followed in his footsteps and as Jacob has followed his example, so will Kevin when he inevitably takes his place as Chief when the time comes. Renesmee and Jacob were told of what to do and what not to do in order to prepare Kevin for when his time came.

Renesmee's family, while understanding none of the proceedings, listened intently as William and Sokajili spoke. It was only after Kevin was placed just before the bonfire and Sokajili rubbed some essential oils on his head that the people were encouraged to dance and eat in Kevin's honor. Everyone also used that time to present Kevin with his gifts, ranging from quickly made toys, clothes and toy and clothes from her family that had months to work on them. Everyone enjoyed the feast and Renesmee accepted a potato cake. But a food she'd liked just yesterday suddenly tasted like dirt again and she handed it over to Caevia. Kevin slept through the whole thing, only waking once to cry and put in Renesmee's mind that he was hungry. Renesmee stepped away so she could feed Kevin in private. She was alone with Kevin for a moment in her tent when Jacob eventually joined her inside. Kevin was soundly enjoying his dinner periodically looking up at Renesmee. When Jacob came into the tent, Renesmee looked at him and smiled.

"Kevin's missing his party," Jacob joked.

"He just got hungry," Renesmee said. "I'll bring him back out as soon as he's done."

"Why didn't you just feed him outside? No one would've minded."

"I know they don't, but I don't like feeding Kevin in front over everyone. Especially with my parents here. It would be inappropriate," Renesmee said and Jacob signed.

"If you say so," he said. "So is he enjoying his dinner?" Renesmee smiled and looked at Kevin. He was still looking up at her as he ate and he seemed content.

"He's enjoying it just fine," Renesmee said. "How's everyone enjoying their dinner?"

"Everyone likes the food your family brought. And Caevia's still making sure they're getting acquainted with everyone." Renesmee smiled and with her free hand waved Jacob over to come sit with her while she continued to feed Kevin. "So you don't like potatoes anymore?"

"I guess not," Renesmee said. "I don't feel thirsty yet."

"Let me know the moment you do and I'll take you hunting." Renesmee nodded, having returned her attention to Kevin. He took a few more large gulps and released Renesmee's nipple and began to whimper. Renesmee brought Kevin up to her shoulder and gently started patting his back until a tiny burped escaped him and he was no longer crying. "What was he crying for?"

"He was just uncomfortable. The poor thing's eating too fast for his own good," Renesmee joked. "He gets little bubbles in his stomach and I need to help him pat them out." Now that Kevin was fed and comfortable, Renesmee readjusted Kevin in her arms and looked up at Jacob. "Let's get back out there."

Jacob nodded and the two of them walked out of the tent together and went back to the gathering. They all celebrated well into the night and only went to bed when everyone was simply too tired to stay awake. Kevin was fussy for some of the night since there was a lot of noise from all the people talking, but he calmed once Renesmee and Jacob were back in their tent together again. When it was quiet, Kevin nodded off and stayed asleep.

"He looks so much like you," Renesmee said as the two of them put Kevin in the little bassinette her family had made for him.

"I guess he does," Jacob said. "I still think he looks more like you." Renesmee smiled, still looking at Kevin, and put her hand on Jacob's. Jacob wrapped his arms around her waist and held her to him gently before leading her back to their set of blankets. Renesmee was near falling asleep the moment her head hit the ground. "I love you Renesmee," Jacob said before giving her a quick kiss.

"I love you too," she answered before resting her head against his shoulder and falling sound asleep.
