This is a small teaser for a fic I'm working on that should come out soon, a Steven Universe OC-led fic known as the Fire That Burns Deep Wirhin focusing on the son of Red Diamond, Lance Galaxy.
It was a relatively calm and normal day in the seaside town known as Beach City, where we see a faraway shot of the donut shop known as the Big Donut, some people were walking calmly on the street and it all seemed to be fine and calm until…a loud scream was heard from within Big Donut, causing the people around the place run away in panic and confusion.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
The source of the scream was none other but a 13-years old boy with a messy tuff of dark brown hair and dark brown eyes wearing a red t-shirt with a star symbol on it and blue shorts. He also had a pink rose quartz gemstone where his belly button was supposed to be. This was Steven Universe, son of Rose Quartz and Greg Universe.
"This can't be happening!" Steven exclaimed as he looked at an empty pink fridge with a smiling cat symbol on it. "This has to be a dream!"
As Steven turned around in his panic the presence of another boy was revealed to us. That person was a 15-years old boy with spiky black hair and tired orange eyes with eyebags under them wearing a black hood jacket with orange highlights and brown cargo pants. He had an orange amber gemstone embedded into his collar bone. This was Lance Galaxy, son of Red Diamond and an unknown human man.
Seeing how freaked out his younger friend was, Lance did the first thing that came to his mind and he grabbed a hold of one of Steven's cheeks before pinching it, causing the younger gem hybrid to flinch and yelp in pain.
"Owww! Why did you pinch me?!" Steven whined in pain as he rubbed the cheek that Lance pinched.
"You said this must be a dream right? Thought that if I pinch you you'll see that this is indeed the reality, Stevo." Lance replied in the most flat voice he could possibly reply in, not leaving any bit of emotion coming from his voice through…a small smirk did make its way on his face for a moment.
Steven said nothing and looked at his friend with a neutral face before getting back to his freaking out routine and running around in a frenzy.
"Lars! Lars!" Steven exclaimed as he jumped to grab a worker of the Big Donut by the name of Lars Barriga, a tall and lanky 17-years old teenage boy with brown hair and dark eyes wearing circular earrings, by the waist. "Please tell me I'm dreaming!"
"Get off man, I'm stocking here!" Lars growled at the chubby gem hybrid before shaking Steven off, letting him slide to the ground as Lars went to stock the rest of the shop.
"A*hole…" Lance muttered under his breath, clearly annoyed by how Lars was treating his not blood related younger brother.
"I'm sorry Steven, guess they just stopped making them." The other worker of the big donut by the name of Sadie Miller, a 17-years old teenage girl with blonde hair and black eyes, explained to Steven in a more considerate manner, hoping that the younger boy would understand.
"Stopped making them? Why in the world would they stop making Cookie Cats?!" Steven shrieked in shock, not understanding how anyone would want to stop making Cookie Cats. "They're only the most scrumptious and delicious ice-cream sandwich ever made! Don't they have laws for this?!" He continued in a panicked voice, causing slight amusement for Lance.
"I'm pretty sure there aren't laws prohibiting the company from stopping making a product that doesn't sell." Lance told his younger brother flatly before noticing the fact that Steven was on the verge of crying. "But I'm pretty sure people do indeed love Cookie Cats as much as you do and the company had another reason to discontinue it." He corrected himself, causing Steven to feel slightly better.
Only for Lars to come in and destroy the better feelings that Steven felt by saying this while restocking the shelves:
"Tough bits, man. Nobody buys them anymore. I guess they couldn't compete with Lion Lickers." Lars said as he pointed to a nearby fridge containing some yellow lion-shaped ice-cream sandwiches.
"Uuuuugh…not Lion Lickers! Nobody likes them!" Steven groaned as he looked over to the fridge containing Lion Lickers.
"I actually kinda like Lion Lickers. They taste pretty good once you try them, they taste than Cookie Cats I'd say." Lance said with a nostalgic smile on his face, only for Steven to gasp and glare at the slightly older teen.
"How dare you say that they're pretty good? They are horrible! Take that back!"
"Okay, sorry…Lion Lickers are horrible and Cookie Cats are the most scrumptious and delicious ice-cream sandwiches ever made." Lance sighed and corrected himself. It wasn't as if what he was saying was true but..if it made Steven happy, he had no reason to complain. "Happy now?"
"Uh-uh! But back to what I was saying!" Steven said with a nod before starting to berate the Lion Lickers once again. "Lion Lickers don't even look like lions! Kids those days…I'll tell ya what!"
"Steven…you are a kid yourself." Lance commented under his breath but decided to keep it to himself.
Upon hearing that coming from Steven, while Lance kept any comments to himself, Lars on the other hand decided to mock Steven for it.
"Well, if you miss your wimpy ice-cream so much, why don't you use your "magic belly button" and make it reappear!" Lars laughed mockingly at the gem hybrid.
"Hey Lars! If that's so, then why don't you use your "magic giant earrings" and get some friends?!" Lance snapped back at the older boy venomously, surprising the older teen quite a bit.
"Owch…man, that hurt!" Lars said in a fake hurt voice trying to laugh it off but the shaking lips and teary eyes gave away the fact that Lance's comment did indeed affect him.
"Lars…are…are you crying?" Sadie asked her co-working with a raised eyebrow, causing Lars to get defensive.
"N…No…! Y…y…you're the one who's crying! I…I'm not….!" Lars yelled in a defensive manner before running away in tears.
