Hermione stared at the plastic stick in her hands then put it next to the three others she had taken. Slowly sitting on the edge of the tub in her bathroom, she slowly began to go through all of her emotions. Wary, scared, a tiny bit elated. There was no doubt about it. Hermione Jean Granger was most definitely pregnant.
She'd thought when she had skipped last months menstrual period, it had to be the stress from the Wizengamot trials. Yet when another month went by with no visit from Aunt Flow as her and Ginny called their time of the month, she ran to the pharmacist and bought one of each brand test on the shelves.
Draco and her had become exclusive after they slept together and he proclaimed his love for her nine weeks ago. They had just gotten him promoted to a DMLE liaison officer for the juvenile division last week. He'd asked her to move in with him just a few nights ago after she had finally told him that she was absolutely, devastatingly in love with him.
Harry and Ginny were both very happy for their best friend. They enjoyed date nights with the new couple. Harry and Draco got along like old friends now that they had buried the hatchet. Ron was still being an arse. He refused to believe that Draco had changed. He told Hermione that she must be losing her mind if she thought she wanted to be with an ex-Death Eater. He'd even filed a complaint with the Minister himself, asking for a psych evaluation on Hermione. That had been the final nail in the coffin of their former friendship.
Hermione got up and opened the door to her bathroom. Her lease was up in two weeks, and she was supposed to be moving into Draco's flat then. She didn't know if he would even want a child. "It's now or never." She sent her Patronus and five minutes later, there was a knock at her front door before Draco opened it to enter.
"What's happening? Are you okay?" He rushed to her when he saw that she had been crying, her eyes rimmed red. He led her to the loveseat and sat close. "Hermione? What has you so upset, love?" Draco was looking at her, his grey eyes heavy with worry.
Hermione pulled the Muggle pregnancy tests out of her pocket and placed them down on the coffee table. "These are Muggle pregnancy tests." His eyes shot up in realisation.
"You mean you're...you're..."
"Pregnant. We are pregnant." Hermione couldn't figure out if he was happy or upset. But then...
"I'm going to be a daddy!" Draco shot up off the couch and yelped! "We're having a baby!" The smile stretched across his face making her sigh in relief.
"I didn't know how you'd react. I was so scared you would be angry and not want anything to do with us." Hermione started sobbing and Draco gathered her in his arms.
"Already emotional, babe? Aww, come here." He cuddled her tightly. "We're in love. Our child was conceived from that love. I already know that I want a family and a life with you. My mother will be over the moon and father will push for a wedding." He chuckled.
"Well, I don't want you to marry me just because I am having your child." She huffed and tried to push away from him.
"Oh no you don't. You remember what I said after the first night we were together?" Hermione shrugged. He smirked at her, "I already want to marry you. I've known since I was eleven that it would happen." He kissed her slowly, wrapping his arms around her to pull her closer. "I love you. And I will love this child and any more children that you bless me with."
Hermione cried happy tears. "I love you, Malfoy!" She hugged herself to his chest. " And I would be lucky to marry you. If you're offering?" She looked up into his eyes.
"This has got to be the second best day of my life." He said as he stared at her in wonder.
"Second? What was the first?" Hermione asked with a sly smile on her face.
"The day I started working at the Ministry as your personal assistant." He kissed her forehead. "The day I finally felt complete."
Three weeks later, as she entered her second semester, Draco and Hermione wed at a small ceremony in the gardens of Grimmauld Place. Narcissa, as Draco had said, was over the moon about becoming a grandmother. Lucius had written a beautiful, heartfelt letter to Hermione in which he apologised for his many mistakes over the years. He was excited about the new addition to the Malfoy family, and although it was expected for a male to be born first as had happened in every generation in the Malfoy line, he secretly hope for a granddaughter.
Harry stood as witness for Hermione and Blaise Zabini stood with Draco. Afterwards they had a small luncheon and tea. Ginny introduced Blaise to Luna since he had been staring at the quirky witch since she sat for the ceremony. Theo and Pansy Nott were the only other guests of Draco's. They had married after the war and had a newborn son named Sebastian after Pansy's cousin that died in the war.
"Well, I never thought I'd see the day you finally got the bollocks to make a move on Granger. Congratulations Drake!" Pansy elbowed her friend good-natuterdly. "Now look! Married and one of these on the way." She snuggled her infant son. "It's the best." Theo kissed his wife's head and congratulated Draco.
"Thank you both for coming." He smiled and leaned over to look at the baby in his friend's arms. "He's beautiful. Congratulations." The little boy had a matching mop of chestnut curls like his father but the bright, emerald green eyes of his mother.
"Look at us, mate! Married. Having kids." Theo hugged Draco to his side and looked up to see the Gryffindor Princess smiling their way as she talked to Harry and Ginny. "I'm really happy for you. After all this time, you finally found your happy ending."
Draco smiled and shook his head, "Nah mate. This is only the beginning."
"Push, Mrs. Malfoy! Just one more push!" Healer Neilsson urged.
"I can't! I'm so tired!" Hermione had been in labour for two hours.
"You can, love! Come on. Give us one more, Granger." Draco held onto her hand and kissed her sweaty brow.
"Okay! Okay!" She squeezed his hand and pushed once more and then...
"It's a girl!" Draco looked shocked. The first born Malfoy was a girl.
"Draco! Oh sweetheart! A daughter! We have a little girl!" Hermione cried out as her husband bent down to kiss her.
"Athena." He said as he leaned his forehead against hers. "Athena Rose." Hermione smiled as happy tears streamed down her face.
Lucius sat in his cell and waited anxiously for news daily. He knew that his daughter-in-law was due any day now. He was supposed to have a visit from Draco today after his therapy session.
"Malfoy!" He heard the guard yell out his name. "You've got a letter." Lucius got up and eagerly took the parchment.
Dad,
I won't be able to come. Hermione had the baby early this morning. It was a hard labour but at 3:32 AM, our DAUGHTER Athena Rose was born! 3.2kg and 50cm! Bald but beautiful with his mum's eyes! We've taken photos and will send some as soon as they get developed. See you next week, Grandpa!!!
Love,
Draco
Lucius could not wipe the smile off his face. A granddaughter! He had a granddaughter! Athena Rose; wisdom and love. His Mind Healer was surprised by the smile on his clients face when he walked in. They had a great session. He hoped to get to meet Athena. He wasn't sure if they'd ever bring her there though. Although conditions had improved, Azkaban was still on an island and the constant frigid temperatures would not be great for her.
It was one more thing he would miss because he had been weak and followed that megalomaniac bastard. He wished he could go back and change things. With a resigned sigh, he let his guard lead him back to his cell. He picked up the parchment and read it again, falling asleep with it clutched in his hands.
Three years later...
"Babe, I think she has enough warm clothing." Hermione shook her head at her husband. Although they sent plenty of photos over the years (enough that his whole cell was covered), today would be the first time that Lucius would meet his grandchild in person. Hermione rubbed her growing belly. At six months pregnant with twins, she was looking quite large.
The day they found out, Draco was so overjoyed that he hugged a perplexed Ronald Weasley right in the middle of the DMLE offices. Ron was still an arse but when him and his partner Megan wed last year, he became less of an arse. This time around they found out the sex of the babies, two boys, and only the second set of twins in Malfoy history.
"Love, I don't want her catching a cold. You haven't been in months; I swear it's gotten colder." She just smiled at him. He was such a doting father; a dream really. Who would have guessed that Draco Malfoy would also be everyone's favourite uncle as well.
Harry and Ginny's son Jamie loved his Uncle D. Blaise and Luna's one year old daughter, Pandora, was smitten with him and followed him everywhere now that she was walking. And Sebastian, Athena's very best friend, idolised him, much to Theo's chagrin. Everyone was also pregnant at the same time. They swore that the adults only vacation to Bali six months ago was the catalyst. "We all brought home souvenirs!" Pansy had joked when her, Ginny, Luna and Hermione found out they were all expecting and due around Christmas.
"The Portkey leaves in one minute. Be safe. I love you both tremendously!" Hermione could not make the trip due to the pregnancy, "Give Lucy my love." She said with a giggle.
Draco kissed his wife and smirked as he picked up their daughter, "You know he hates when you call him that." Hermione smiled brightly.
"Yes, I know."
Athena leaned towards her mum, "Nose kisses!" Hermione rubbed her nose against her little girl's and caressed her face. "Bye, mumma. Wuv you!"
"Love you my sweet. Be good for dadda. And be brave." The thimble began to vibrate.
"Ten seconds. I love you, Granger." They popped out of the room, leaving Hermione to herself. She sat in her reading chair and grabbed her book.
"Malfoy, visitors." Lucius had just showered and put on clean clothes that he was given by Narcissa during her visit yesterday. Even though they were no longer married, she was still his best friend. The Warden had been kind enough to allow it so that his granddaughter's first memory of meeting her grandfather was not of him in prison garb. The 5,000 galleon 'donation' to Azkaban helped.
He took a deep breath and looked around his cell, plastered with photos of his family, and took a deep breath. His guard led him to the visitors room, uncuffed. Trust. It felt good. He peaked in the window and his heart stopped.
She was even more beautiful in person. Blonde curls, big brown doe eyes, and the cutest dimples on her smiling face. The door opened and he walked in confidently. "Ah, my Athen Rose. Hello son." Draco shook his father's hand and picked up his daughter.
"Athena, this is your grandpa, Lucius." Draco said as the little girl looked at him inquisitively.
"Gwampa Lucy!" They couldn't help but laugh.
"I see my lovely daughter-in-law has been calling me that ridiculous moniker again." He chuckled. "Can I hold her?" Draco nodded and handed his daughter over. Lucius sat on the sofa in the room with her on his lap. She started talking away, somethings Lucius wouldn't understand and he'd looked to his son for clarification. One thing was for certain, she was incredibly intelligent like her parents, and shared much of Narcissa's mannerisms. Draco had a camera and took photos here and there.
After a while, Athena yawned. "It is just about her nap time, Dad. One more picture?" He called the guard in, "I would hate to be a bother, but could take our photo?" The guard huffed but one look at Athena hugging her grandfather and his heart melted. Draco sat next to his dad with Athena in his lap and put his arm across Lucius's shoulders. They looked at each other and smiled before they heard the click of the camera and turned to face the guard with a smile on both their faces. "I'll send that as soon as I can." He thanked the guard and they said their goodbyes.
"Wuv you gwampa." A very sleepy Athena said as he hugged her close, breathing in her lavender scent.
"And I love you my sweet Athena Rose." He handed her over to her father before tugging Draco close. "And I love you, son." Draco returned the sentiment and smiled. "See you next week, Draco. Give my love to Herbert." Draco laughed at his father's new name for Hermione.
The return Portkey was ready by the time they got to the lobby. Draco tucked his daughter close before they popped back home.
Hermione had fallen asleep in her reading chair with her feet propped up and a book laying open across her chest. Draco put Athena in her room for her nap and then walked back into the living room. "We're back, Love." He whispered as he gently woke her. Hermione stretched and yawned.
"Mmmm, how was it?" She asked as he helped her stand.
"Fantastic. I took a bunch of pictures. I've never seen him so happy before. She talked his ear off. Oh! And he says to tell Herbert hello." He chuckled and she looked confused. "That's his new name for you because Athena called him Grandpa Lucy!"
Hermione laughed at that. "Merlin, I wish I could have seen his face!"
"He looked a bit annoyed but laughed it off." Draco's smile fell and she could tell that something was bothering him.
"What is it?"
"I just hate that he is stuck in there. His grandchildren will only ever see him once in a while. He is all alone with only weekly visits and photos to keep him company. He's changed completely. But still he rots." Draco's eyes stung with unshed tears. "I just wish that we could get him out."
Hermione nodded, "So do I. That's why I have been working on a proposal." He looked up in wonder. His wife was incredible. "He has served seven years so far. All seven years, no altercations have occurred. He is a model prisoner. He sees his Mind Healer twice a week. I have seen the notes from the Mind Healer, Healer Jeffries, and it shows that he has zero blood prejudice, shows great remorse and has been even helping other prisoners understand what rubbish they were taught over the years. I propose that he be transferred out of Azkaban prison and put under house arrest instead with limited magic. Household charms, defensive magic and healing enchantments only."
Now, if only they could convince the Wizengamot.
It took exactly 30 days, but they had won. With a non-disclosure agreement signed, no one other than those involved would know of the exoneration of Lucius Malfoy's life sentence.
Lucius was transferred to the Manor. Narcissa moved into the Malfoy estate in Bath. Only the elves were to stay and take care of him. He could have limited visitors; only his direct family members and his parole officer, Harry, chosen specifically by Hermione because he was the only one she could trust.
They had a small dinner party to celebrate. Lucius kept hugging his daughter-in-law and thanking her. "You brilliant, brilliant witch." He'd never had a daughter but loved her like his own.
"She's magnificent." Draco kissed her soundly and they heard Athena giggle.
It was a nice night. Narcissa played piano for them after dinner. Draco danced with his wife as Lucius held Athena and swayed to the music. He watched as his son rubbed Hermione's expanding belly. Soon they would be a family of five. It was a perfect day. And Lucius hoped to have more like it.
The twins were born on December 12th, just about two weeks early. Scorpius Draco and Orion Henry (after Hermione's father) born with tufts of blonde hair. Both with their father's eyes and their mother's nose. Identical twins. It was a hard birth and they'd almost lost Hermione. An emergency hysterectomy would be what saved her, so sadly, there would be no more babies for the Malfoy's by birth. They did adopt a little 1 year old girl, Mia Sarah, seven years after the birth of their twins just before Athena got her Hogwarts letter.
A few days later, Albus Severus Potter was born. An exact copy of his father. Harry and Ginny agreed to try for one more and had their daughter Lily Luna 18 months later.
The following day, Theodore Nott III was born. Pansy cried because she had wanted a girl to which her husband said, "Guess we'll have to try again." He hoped the hex to his balls his wife gave him would make it possible to even try to have another in a year or two. (11 months later, their daughter Posy was born.)
Then, on Christmas Day at 6:15am, Giovanni Blaise Zabini was born. Blaise then asked his wife if they could have one more. He'd always wanted only two but seeing his perfect, beautiful baby boy next to his almost two year old daughter made him wish for just one more. Luna told him they could have as many children as Morgana blessed them with. By the time they stopped having kids a decade later, there would be seven Zabini children; Pandora, Giovanni, Lorcan and Lysander (the twins), Xena, Fiona, and Luca.
The years pass and just as Athena is ready to go into her sixth year at Hogwarts, they receive the sad news. Hiccup, Lucius's personal elf, found him that morning. He had passed away in his sleep; peacefully. He had just turned 70 years old two days earlier. He had been tired during his party, but stilled danced with his favourite dance partner, Athena Rose. She was sad that her grandfather was gone, but knowing he was finally at peace, helped her cope.
On the train, Sebastian sat next to her, "Dad told me about Lucy. I'm sorry." Athena lay her head on his shoulder. He took her hand in his and pulled it to his mouth to kiss her knuckles. "I love you." Athena picked her head up and looked at her best friend, her eyes wide. Sebastian Nott, her best friend since birth, was looking at her in a way she had never seen before. "I know. We're only sixteen, but I know. I've known for years. I'm in love with you, Athena Rose Malfoy."
Athena smiled then leaned in and kissed him. "Oh, Bas! I love you too." They kissed again before they heard a throat clearing. They turned remembering they weren't alone. "Sorry guys."
Across from them sat Jamie Potter and Pandora Zabini. "Oh don't mind us. If I'd known we were going to be making love confessions, I would have done this," Pandora grabbed ahold of Jamie's jumper and kissed him soundly. Athena and Sebastian stared in shock. Jamie and Pandora were always butting heads. Who would have thought they were actually doing that because they loved each other. When they saw Jamie's hand go to cup Pandora's breast, they yelled.
"I don't want to see you groping my friend, Potter!" Athena kicked his shin and he yelped.
"Later." Pandora said with a wink and they laughed as they watched the young wizard blushing.
Six years later...
"And do you, Sebastian take Athena to be yours to have and to hold, to grow with and cherish for all of your days..."
Draco and Hermione watched as their daughter married her best friend. They looked down the row to see their children. All growing too fast. The twins were two years post-Hogwarts and taking over their father's Apothecary with Giovanni Zabini. Mia was in her second year at Hogwarts, the first Malfoy to be sorted to Gryffindor. Narcissa sat next to her boyfriend Francois. He was only five years older than Draco and he hated the French model his mum met while on vacation in the Swiss Alps last winter.
Draco felt his wife squeeze his hand. He turned and saw her tear stained face. He leaned forward and kissed her lips softly. "Our baby is getting married." They turned and watched as the binding ceremony was completed and the two young ones kissed to seal their marriage bonds.
"May I pronounce for the first time, Mr and Mrs Sebastian Tiberius Nott!" Everyone stood up and clapped as the newlyweds made their way back up the aisle.
Later that night, Hermione kissed her daughter goodbye. Draco tugged his first born into his arms. "Love you." He heard his wife's sniffing and put his arm out to pull her into their hug.
"I love you both so very much. Thank you for everything. Thank you for giving me this wonderful, beautiful life." Athena was crying now. "I wish grandpa was here." Draco squeezed her tighter.
"He was. He is always with us. In spirit. Also," Hermione pulled out a picture from her bag. "I had this framed for you." It was the first picture they'd taken together. Athena was on her grandfather's lap and they were laughing together. It was taken in the visitors room at Azkaban.
"Thanks mum." She kissed her mother's cheek, "I love it." Sebastian came over to collect his wife. They were going to stay at the Zabini compound in Naples for a two week honeymoon. They waved goodbye before apparating away.
Draco held his wife that night as they lay in bed. "You know? I really have been lucky. I never thought this life could have happened. Then you proved to me that I am worthy of love and happiness. This life? Our life? I'm just so grateful that I get to live it with someone like you." He kissed her languidly as he rolled on top of her. He entered her and sighed at the feeling of her. They made love until they both reached their pleasure. "I love you, Granger."
"Love you, Malfoy."
The End
