Chapter 2
After lunch, it is time for recess and all of the kids are doing their own things throughout the school.
Lloyd is sitting on one of the benches, looking at all the kids having fun and feeling left out because he's the school outcast.
He gets up and decides to head back inside, but unbeknownst to him, someone notices and follows him.
Lloyd's back in the room where the boys sleep and he pulls out a book that tells the story of his father Lord Garmadon. Scrolling through the pages, he sees a picture of his father and it's just a dark shadow with glowing red eyes.
Even though Lloyd doesn't know much about his father, he wishes he could meet him and possibly be just like him and even make him proud.
"Whatcha looking at?"
"Ahh! What the heck?" Lloyd exclaims, turning around to see Melissa, "Oh, it's just you. You scared me there for a second...Oh man, I nearly soiled myself."
"Sorry, didn't mean to scare ya," Melissa apologizes shyly, "I just saw you head back inside and I was wondering what you were doing in here rather than having fun outside."
"Hey, you are in here too ya know," Lloyd tells her, but then gets worried she might not actually be alone, "You did come here alone, right?"
"Yeah, no one's with me. I'm not really comfortable being around people I don't know," Melissa bashfully admits.
"You're not?" Lloyd questions to which Melissa shakes her head in confirmation, "If you're not comfortable around people you don't know, then why did you approach me at lunch and talk to me?"
"Because when I saw you sitting all alone, I figured that I should woman up and decided to sit with you and get to know you a little bit," Melissa explains and then she gets a little nervous, twiddling her fingers, "And...Maybe see if we could be...Friends maybe?"
Lloyd's eyes widen because nobody ever wanted to be his friend.
"You...Wanna be my friend?" Lloyd asks as Melissa nods again, "But why?"
"Because in my opinion, nobody deserves to be alone," Melissa gives Lloyd a small smile causing his cheeks to heat up a little bit, and he doesn't know why and shrugs it off, "So what do say, Lloyd? Do you wanna be friends?"
He looks a little conflicted about being friends with a girl, but then again this could be his only chance to not be alone anymore.
"OK, Melissa is it?... We can be friends" Lloyd agrees with a smile.
Hearing that made Melissa smile and then the two shook hands as a sign of a brand new friendship.
"So, Lloyd, what were you looking at?" Melissa wonders.
"Oh, it's just a book about my father and how he became the Dark Lord of the Underworld," Lloyd answers, showing her the book, "Do you wanna read it with me?"
"Sure," Melissa says.
Lloyd and Melissa sit on Lloyd's bed and read the book together to learn all about the origins of Lord Garmadon.
Hours later, it is now night time and everyone is now in their bunks fast asleep except Lloyd who is lying on his bed wide awake and having trouble sleeping, and after tossing and turning for about fifteen minutes, he decides to go for a walk.
Lloyd quietly sneaks out of the boys' room and heads for the elevator down the hall. On the top floor, he climbs the ladders that lead to the roof to see someone there looking at the sky.
"Melissa?" Lloyd questions?
Melissa turns around to see Lloyd behind her, "Oh hey, Lloyd, what are you doing up this late at night?"
"I couldn't sleep," he admits as he sits beside her, "What about you?"
"I'm kind of a night owl from time to time," Melissa replies as she looks at the full moon and clear sky, "I just enjoy the calm and peaceful nighttime sky. I find it so relaxing."
Lloyd turns his head and gives Melissa a skeptical look, "You know, you don't really seem like the bad girl type," he points out, "What's your story?"
"My...story?" Melissa's smile vanishes and is replaced with a sad look, "I don't know what my story is."
"What do you mean?" Lloyd asks with concern.
"What I mean is...I don't know where I come from or who I am or who my family is. The only thing I know about myself is my name," Melissa reveals in a sad tone, "I woke up in the middle of a forest with no one in sight, and I have no memory of my mom and dad, and I don't even know if I have any siblings or not."
"So, you basically don't have a home or a family?" Lloyd deduces in shock.
"As far as I know, I don't," Melissa shakes her head, "I've been living in the forest for months, struggling to survive until I stumbled onto this place, and I thought that maybe it could help me figure out who I am."
Lloyd can't believe it. This girl doesn't know anything about who she is or where she comes from, and he couldn't help but feel bad for her.
"I'm very sorry to hear that, Melissa," Lloyd says sincerely to which Melissa gives him a sad smile and then continues to look at the sky, "But, look on the bright side, at least you have me by your side to be your friend."
"R-Really?" Melissa looks back at him with wide eyes, "You mean it?"
"Of course," Lloyd grins, "Now, I'm not gonna lie, I find girls to be icky and they have cooties and all that," he says, making Melissa chuckle a bit, "But you on the other hand are pretty cool for a girl, and I can't believe I'm saying this but I am glad to call you my friend."
Melissa smiles and gives him a hug, "Thank you, Lloyd, and I'm glad that you are my friend too."
Lloyd is shocked by the hug and he doesn't know why, but he actually likes it and hugs her back, silently vowing to keep Melissa safe and make sure she doesn't get hurt.
They then both decide to enjoy the night sky and each other's company as brand-new friends, and they are ready for whatever Ninjago throws at them.
To be continued...
A/N: And that is Chapter 2 and the start of a brand new friendship between Lloyd Garmadon and Melissa Zhau. What adventures await them, we'll find out when the chapters progress. And if I have to pick a voice actor for Melissa, I'd have to go with the queen of voice acting Tara Strong, because it seems fitting to have her voice her. Hope you all enjoyed the chapter.
