Now he was a man of many words. Words were tools of his trade. But nothing could really be said for running into one of the worst beings in the universe. And to make matters worse he was with an unaware child in an alleyway
"Okay we went after someone and we're staring at a statue?" Peter sounded a bit annoyed and confused at the turn of events. He pulled his sleeve to make him turn away. Fat chance of that.
"Come on dude," Peter said impatiently. "We followed the chick and all. But now she's gone. Let's go."
The Medic didn't move. "We can't move...unless you've got some mirrors somewhere."
"What?" Peter stepped into his line of sight making lose sight of the statue.
"Move child!" The Medic barked making Peter jump and turn just barely in time. The winged being had its claws and fangs extended making Peter's eyes boggle.
"That...statue...moved," Peter whispered staring at it with horror moving backwards as the Medic followed suit even as he looked from the corner of his eye for a mirror. "Cause it wasn't there before."
"That my boy is a Weeping Angel," The Medic said. "It's a creature from the dawn of time. It can only move when not observed. It turns into stone and takes the shape of Angel statue. So don't blink."
"What does it do?"
"It's called the Lonely Assassin and it kills you by sending you back in time and eats your potential future energy," The Medic explained.
"Oh great," Peter muttered. "So we're playing a demented version of red light, green light. Never thought I'd be chased by a statue in my life. "
"Welcome to my life," The Medic quipped as he spotted an old mirror. "Now when I say run. Run."
"What about you?"
"I'll be grabbing a mirror and making sure that it's stuck looking at it's reflection," the Medic said edging his way towards the old mirror. "Keep an eye on it and whatever you do. DON'T. BLINK."
"No problem," Peter gulped staring at the Weeping Angel. The Medic quickly grabbed the mirror and slammed it in front of Peter blocking the Angel's view of him.
"RUN!"
Peter needed no other encouragement. He quickly turned and sprinted out of the alleyway. The Medic hesitated to make sure the mirror was in place before ducking behind the mirror and running as well. He sprinted as fast as his body would allow until he reached a market square panting.
Bloody body is far too old for this sort of thing, The Medic grumbled inwardly as he leaned on his knees.
"Hey Medic are you okay?!" Peter cried out as he ran towards him. "Did it work?!"
"Obviously otherwise we'd be in another timeline and possibly a different place," The Medic gasped finally catching his breath. Good old respiratory bypass.
"Let's go to get implant before we run into another issue," Peter said.
"Have to ask why can't we just smash it once it turns into stone? "
"Well, you could. But then the stone that made up the Angel would still have sentience and go into your lungs," The Medic answered.
Peter was very quiet after that. He couldn't blame him. He was profoundly unnerved when he found out that tidbit of information too.
"Oh...um," Peter suddenly looked a little sheepish. "Could we not mention this to Yondu?"
"I can understand that," The Medic said. "I wouldn't want to advertise that I had met a Weeping Angel either."
"Well, there's that. Also, Yondu wouldn't trust me alone anymore if he knew that I had gotten myself neck deep in trouble," Peter said.
"Understood my boy," The Medic mimicked locking his lips. "Say no more."
The walk over to the implantation site was quiet with Peter keeping a firm eye out for any and all statues. Finally they reached a rickety building with a flickering strobe light with indescifrable wording. That was new considering he was usually fluent in quite a few languages...usually...he got the impression that something else filled in the blanks. But what that was he didn't know.
Peter was talking to an alien a pink skinned Krylorian according to him. The Medic was fascinated with that fact that firstly he'd not heard of them or their language...so one can imagine just how frustrating not being able to talk to them. Finally after a bit of haggling the Krylorian gestured him to come. Thank goodness body language was similar otherwise there'd be an issue. The being led him into what looked like a sterile operating room. Ugh he hated hospitals.
"No don't!"
"Sir you're going to be okay."
"You don't understand!"
The Medic grimly shook his head as he felt the Krylorian grab his arm looking slightly concerned. The Medic smiled as he settled on the bed although he was slightly surprised and unnerved by the random voices that felt familiar and yet not.
Another mystery to solve...heh sounds good to me. He smiled as he went under.
"Ouch," was the first word from his mouth once he'd woken up. He rubbed his neck were he knew the implant was or at least had a general idea of where it could be
"Good to see you awake," the Krylorian said his words intelligible now. "How are you feeling?"
"Like something stabbed me in the neck," the Doctor grumbled rubbing his neck. "Bloody thing is a nuisance."
"A necessary evil," he shrugged. "The pain should go away in couple of days. Don't worry about payment your grandchild handled it."
"Susan?" Wait no he meant Peter.
"Well it seems that won't translate," the Krylorian sighed.
"It's a name," The Medic said shortly. "And a dear one at that."
"I see, well I won't pry," the Krylorian lead him back into the waiting room where Peter was waiting for him playing a game.
"Ahem," The Medic coughed gaining the boy's attention. Peter grinned at him.
"Howdy, did it work?"
"I can understand this gentleman so I would say yes," The Medic smiled at him.
"Groovy! Well, at least that went right," Peter said. "Now let's get back to ship."
"Fine by me."
The walk was uneventful and soon they reached the Ecletor with no other incident.
"Have fun?" Kraglin asked lazily as they entered the ship. Many other crew were shuffling in and showing off their goods to those comrades they'd strayed off from.
"Exceedingly so," The Medic smiled at him. "Got some tea and a set as well. And yourself?"
"Same old," Kraglin shrugged before looking at Peter. "I see you got the errand done."
"Yup," Peter said proudly. "I sure did."
"Good, keep it up and the Captain will let you get involved more. And you too Medic," Kraglin said with smirk. "Y'all in for a ride now."
