A/N: Hehehe, now the REAL fun begins! A group left behind while another being evacuated. We're goin in on a wild ride!!
Wake up!!
Jaden, wake up!!
Winged Kuriboh was constantly trying to wake his friend up, bouncing on him and trying to shake him, but to no avail. Seeing ni other options, Winged Kuriboh pinched his cheek with his claws.
"Ow..! Kuriboh, would it hurt to trim those things..??" He grumbled, before blinking.
"Wait.. You shouldn't.." He reaches out to touch the Duel Monster, who nods before flying up to show him the window. Jaden got up and looked outside.
His eyes widen in shock.
The sky was.. filled with sharp cracks, constantly breaking and mending. It was like someone was trying to force the pieces to stick back together. Yet, it looked like just throwing a pebble at it would shatter it.
The brunette immediately got his jacket on as he sprints to the bunk bed. "Guys!! Wake up, you-!!"
He noticed Syrus's disappearance as Hassleberry wakes up. "Sarge, what's goin' on..??" He noticed the sky, which jolts the Dino Duelist awake as he slides off the bed and lands on the floor with a thud. "The sky!! What on tarnation is going on?!"
"I-I don't know.. But, Sy is missing! I'll find him, you go wake up the others!"" Jaden immediately bolts out the door as Hassleberry jerked up. "Hey, wait!! Sarge!"
Keel snaps up, all of their systems rebooting as they looked around. A shock of alarm trails through their circuits as the memories flooded back.
No.. No, this can't be! It wasn't...
They looked around, before spotting Syrus unconscious on the ground. The first thing they noticed was his outfit.
Dark as the sky, with some kind of rib-like metal clutching on his abdomen and chest like teeth burying itself onto it's prey. The same dark metal on his shoulders, as it circled a cloak around his figure. He held a longsleeve coat while his boots held that same darkness. It had a resemblance to the Cyberdarks, especially the one who was staring at him.
What alarmed Keel the most was on his back..
They can tell the cords hiding under his cloak came from his back. Large, yet slender. Like wires.
No...
Keel slithered to Syrus, circling him as they try to nudge him awake.
No, no, no, no! This wasn't supposed to happen, it wasn't supposed to go this way! I-I didn't mean for this..!
"Ugh..." Keel jerked their head up as they watched him struggle to get up.
He felt a severe headache, as if it was being torn apart and flooded with nothing but fog. Looking at the metallic body of the Duel Monster caused it to worsen as a surge of images appeared in his thoughts, so fast that he could barely process them.
"W.. Where am I..?" He muttered as he looked around. The area near them was a mess, to say the least. He can see the ground filled with broken branches and streaks across the dirt and grass. The bushes were misshapen, pulled apart by the harsh gust of wind from earlier.
Syrus, I'm so sorry..! I had no idea it would hurt you, I-
"... Huh?"
Syrus looks up in slight confusion, before another headache came up. Images flooded his head for a second.
"Is.. Is that my name?"
Keel stared at him, stunned in silence. What?
Not having any words, they nod their head. Syrus took a deep breath to steady himself, getting up despite his trembling knees. What happened here..? Is that what Keel meant before..?
Wait.. How did he know the Duel Monster's name? Also despite their intimidating appearance.. Their presence feels soothing.
Syrus, wait, sit back down..! He hears them hiss as they gently shove him to sit on a nesrby log. It looked like it had just fallen over.
Please, you need to rest. I-I'll try to fix this-
"Urgh..!"
Keel immediately snapped their head at the source of the groan, seeing someone get up and walk out of the darkness. Syrus looked at the dark figure who walked up to them, trying to see through his blurry vision.
Looking at this man brung another surge of pain, filled with memories that dealt the same damage. He shut his eyes tight as he hoped to adjust.
What he felt next that was different is his body in slight pain. some kind of shock, as if he was electrocuted.
No... No, he was.
He was electrocuted.
Because of him.
His eyes snapped open and stood up immediately, getting his duel disk out and backing away as terror clutched his heart. Without any hesitation, he drew a card and summoned Cyberdark Edge. Zane blinked, now able to see his brother clearly after his eyes adjusted to the light. And needless to say, it shocked him.
"GET BACK!!" The older Truesdale froze his movement, now even more surprised. He never heard him yell like that. It was like some wounded animal prepared to fight for it's life. He didn't need another warning. He can tell that Syrus was ready to sick that Cyberdark onto him if he took another step.
Zane only stared, trying to think of something to say. What did he do? First, he stole his cards and now, is going to attack him with them?? What happened to his outfit?? He definitely wasn't wearing that before.
He sighed. "... Look, there better be a good explanation-"
"Get away, you..!" Syrus growled, stepping back when Zane tried to take a step forward.
"Syrus, why di-"
"How did you know my name..?!"
Okay, what??
"... Quit playing games-"
"Games?! I'm serious!! And you.. You electrocuted me! Why?!"
Zane was now even more lost than before. This.. Is very confusing. He's acting like he doesn't even remember anything.
There was an ache in his heart when he thought of that observation, but he stomped it down. Why should he care? If anything, at least Syrus won't bother him anymore.
"Whatever, I'm getting my Cyberdarks back."
Keel made a hissing sound, arching their back in anger.
"Keel said they're not going with you. None of them are." Syrus said with a glare. "Now leave."
"Excuse me?" Zane's eyes narrowed at his response. "I'm not giving you a choice."
"Well, I'm not either!" Syrus snapped back.
"Leave, or else!"
"Or what? You'll challenge me?"
"I said-!!"
"Hey!!"
Both of them paused as they noticed a student running over here as the lights from the Blue Dorm began to turn on. Zane inspected the student, seeing that he's part of the Society of Light. There's no doubt, with that white coat.
"What on earth happened?! What did you two do?!" He shouted, before looking at Syrus and the Cyberdarks by him. "Did you do this?!"
"I-!!"
Keel and Edge growled as they moved to the front, ready to lunge on him. He glared at Syrus before his eyes widen in disbelief. "Wait... Of course.." He whispered, before his look became harsh and full of anger.
"You're the one who caused my friend to get injured! YOU'RE the Psychic Duelist!!" He growled as Syrus stepped back. "I hope you know you messed with the wrong person. The whole Society of Light will hunt you down and put an end to your destruction!!"
Keel roared in anger, enraged at the threat he declared as Edge turned to Syrus. He looked back at Edge, eyes wide with fear as Edge hissed at him. Zane felt himself grow wary. It's like they're communicating..
Syrus took a deep breath, resting his hand onto his chest before looking at the Society of Light member.
To Zane's surprise, his eyes were more fierce, glaring at him with his silver eyes that no longer held light.
He draws three cards and summons Cyberdark Horn. "I play Power Bond! With Keel, Edge and Horn, I summon Cyberdark Dragon!!"
As the three machines fade and swirved together, a horrific dragon rose from the light. A distorted roar echoed through the island as Cyberdark Dragon snarled in hostility.
"I activate their effect. I choose a dragon for it to absorb. And because Dragonroid becomes a dragon type in the Graveyard, I choose Dragonroid!"
Dragonroid is summoned to the field, letting out a yawn before she got startled by the cords attaching to her body.
Huh?! What's happening?!
[Cyberdark Dragon: 6,800 ATK]
"And with that done, all there's left is to attack!"
Zane snapped his head to the student. Wait, this won't end up like a duel. This will be..!
"Wait, you have to-!!"
"Alright, you wanna play that way?! Fine!" The Society of Light member activated his duel disk. "Let's go, Eclipse Wyvern!!" He growled as Eclipse Wyvern showed up with a roar. "Now, I'll use Polymerization to summon Trishula, The Dragon of Icy Imprisonment!!
Three heads appeared as frost covered the area, causing Zane to shield himself from the blistered cold. Syrus yelped as he felt many ice shards cut him up as the temperature dropped to zero.
Each head hissed as it's tail lashed around.
"Trishula, bury him alive in the frost!!" Instead of aiming for the other dragon, the blast aimed directly at Syrus as each head fired a blast.
"SYRUS-!!" Zane didn't feel himself scream his name, his body moving on his own as he sped over without a second thought, only for him to be flung by the force of the blast. Cyberdark Dragon had shielded hi. from the attack, as Syrus winced from the leftover shards that seeped through.
"Cyberdark Dragon, strike back!!" Syrus shouted as it roared angrily before shooting a blast of dark energy at Trisula, sending another harsh gust around them.
Zane didn't have time to brace himself as he was flung away to a deep hole. He barely grabbed hold of the rock so that he didn't fall through, blood beginning to seep from his fingers from the scrapes he gained. He struggles to force himself up, as he barely got up to safety. He can hear more people coming. He can see many lights come on in the distance.
He can hear alarms everywhere, barely audible through the ferocious attacks of Cyberdark Dragon.
Jaden sped around, looking for his friend as it felt like the whole world was ending. The cracks in the sky were shaking, as if barely keeping together. The sound of the sirens and alarms filled the air as many students have woken up and are beginning to panic. Not to mention, the extreme destruction over near the Obelisk Blue dorm..
"Attention to all students of Duel Academy!!" The speakers rang loudly through the island. "This is an Emergency drill, please head to the docks to board the boats!! This is an Emergency Drill, please head to the docks to evacuate!"
Shoot, he needs to find Syrus and fast!! He calls the others with his phone, holding it to his ear as he ran to find him.
"Guys, head to the docks! This is serious!"
"What in Ra's name is happening?! Why is the sky breaking?!" Chazz sounding this freaked out made his anxiety worse as he quickened the pace. "I don't know, but it isn't good that's for sure!"
"Sarge, have you found Truesdale yet?!" Hassleberry said in worry.
"Not yet!"
"The shrimp is probably at the docks, let's go!!"
"No, he was missing earlier too! He wasn't in bed! Something happened, and I'm gonna get to the bottom of this!!" Jaden replied while he heard Chazz hang up.
"Then, I'm stayin' as well!" Hassleberry huffed. "What?! No, Hassleberry! Get to the docks!"
"Hey, Private's a buddy of mine too! I ain't just gonna wait at the docks and twiddle my fingers!"
"Alright, then be careful!" Jaden said over the phone as Hassleberry searches through the forest. "Rodger that-!" He suddenly bumped into someone as he rubs his head. Ouch, what kinda guy has a hard head like that?!
"Hassleberry??" The dino duelist looked up to see Jesse staring at him in shock. "Oh, it's you! What'cha doin' here?!"
"Tryin' to figure out what's goin' on, that's what!" Jesse helped Hassleberry up as he looked at the source of the chaos. "Over there is mighty noisy. It could be what's happenin'!"
"Whoa, slow down! You were gonna go there?!"
"Yeah, it's probably what caused all this!! Let's go-"
The rumbling of the ground got worse as blast shot through and ruptured the earth. Jesse almost fell due to the rumbling as Hassleberry flinched. Dear god, it's just happening more and more! And...
"Wait, why are there so many monsters?!"
Jesse looked up and gasped, seeing how there was now a swarm around the blue dorm. "I.. I don't know! But, it looks like a mess over there! Why are there so many monsters attacking at once..?!"
It isn't a duel. it's more like if they were all dumped into a battle arena!
The rumbling began again as a monster got launched away. It almost crashed right at Jesse if it wasn't for Hassleberry tackling him out of the way. "W-We gotta get to shelter! Now-!!"
It was too late. Another blast, and the ground finally caved in. The two fell down with a scream, into the darkness of the cave in.
Syrus kept trying to defend himself, as a barrage of attacks kept surging through. Even when the monsters summoned didn't have enough to stop Cyberdark Dragon, he still got hit by some attacks. When it settled a bit, he breathed heavily as the dust clouds them.
"Cyberdark Dragon..." They rumbled, glaring through the dust.
"Attack!!"
.As commanded, Cyberdark Dragon began it's rein of destruction once more. Wiping out many Society of Light members as the leftover blast shot through the dorm. Syrus winced as more attacks shot at him.
But was surprised to see Cyber Dragon block the attacks. The Cyber Dragon roared as Syrus looked up in shock. What?!
He felt someone grab his arm and turned to see Zane tugging at him. "H-Hey, let go!!" He shouted, trying to yank his arm away.
"You stupid rat, I'm trying to get you out of here!" Zane growled, now growing frustrated with his brother's resistance. "Stop struggling..!!"
Zane heard the roar of Cyberdark Dragon, as it immediately whipped him away with his tail, then preparing to fire a blast. Zane winced, getting up as he felt his torn sleeve began to feel warm, red liquid oozing down to his fingers.
Syrus ran to Cyberdark Dragon's side, out of breath before turning to look at the Elder Truesdale. His eyes widen in shock. "W-Wait-!"
Cyberdark Dragon had already fired their attack, as Zane witnessed fear for the first time in ages. He scrambled back, as Cyber Dragon took the hit. It continued to shield him until it was destroyed, the harsh blow sending Zane flying.
He hits a nearby tree, letting out a pained grunt before hearing more attacks being fired. His eyes went wide as he immediately looked up, but it wasn't at him. Luckily.
More Society of Light Members have gone after them, as the earth rumbled. Zane struggles to get up, before limping away as fast as he can.
He can't take him on. Not like this.
As he tries to go to the docks, he spots a flash of red before hearing footsteps screech to a halt. They ran back, and a familiar voice made him thank Ra that it wasn't a threat.
"Zane!! What the hell happened?!" Jaden exclaimed, clearing losing his composure.
"We need to get out of here."
"You can go ahead, I still gotta find Syrus!!" Jaden was stopped when his coat was pulled. ".. You shouldn't go look for him."
"What?! Why?! Zane, someone is running a rampage out there and Sy could be in grave danger!! I'm not leaving him behind!" Jaden growled angrily in response.
"Jaden, you don't get it."
"Then, tell me!!"
"That is Syrus who's running a rampage over there." Zane watched as the Brunette's chocolate colored eyes widen in shock, then turns to look at the distant destruction. "... If it is.." His expression turned determined. "Then, all the better to go over there. I can talk him out of whatever's happening to him!"
"You can't. Jaden, that's a stupid idea." Zane felt a growing wave of frustration as he inches closer to get a better hold of the Slifer Red Duelist.
"What do you want me to do?! Do nothing?!"
"Jaden, those attacks are real. You're going to die."
"No, I'm not gonna leave him behind!! I don't care how "dangerous" he is, he's my best friend!! So, let go!"
Jaden shot him a glare that showed he wasn't going to listen. He's not going to back down and leave him. Zane sighed. "Fine.. But know, you left me no choice."
"Wha-"
And using his good arm, he swiftly hit Jaden at the side of his jaw, instantly knocking him out. As the brunette went limp, Zane caught him and drags him to the docks, limping the whole way.
Aster had been staring at Duel Academy from the boat, watching many duel monsters maul and slash at eachother. All of this happening at 4 AM..
What could've caused this..?
He can hear Atticus being restrained, begging for them to ket him go so he can save Alexis. Chazz was trying to get off as well, but was stopped. Aster turned his head to see Zane limping to the docks with Jaden in hand. The teachers were quick on helping them get on. Aster watched as Jaden was laid down in the interior of the rescue boat while Zane was getting patched up.
As many students and teachers got on, the engine revved up and they were off to the mainland.
It has been 15 minutes since, and he heard a commotion. Jaden had woken up and immediately wanted to go back, even wanting to jump off and swim back there.
Never had he seen him so panicked and frizzled up. And the look on his face when he heard a distant wail.
Aster turned to see a Duel Monster at the docks, crying out to them. Looks like Dragonroid, while the mechanical dragon whined.
Jaden stared at the dragon, before it all began to break down on him. Next thing he knew, he was letting out quiet sobs as he hangs his head low on the rail.
Aster could only pat his back to comfort him.
