Everyone searched late into the night, but they couldn't find Luke. Everyone parked where they were and slept in their cars.
As soon as the sun came up, they started searching again.
After about an hour, Daisy got an idea. She picked up the CB:
"Hey, y'all, I've got an idea: what if Kent had hidden Luke somewhere around where his car was parked."
"We already looked there." Jesse replied.
"We didn't look deep into the woods at the county line." Daisy reasoned. "He could have stashed him there."
"I think we'd of found him by now if he was there, but you're welcome to look again." Jesse replied.
Daisy took off for the county line. She parked next to Kent's car and started searching the place on foot.
She walked for a long time, taking every path and looking behind every tree and bush, until she found him, tied to a tree, either sound asleep or unconscious. She ran to him.
"Luke!" She dropped to her knees in front of him.
"Daisy?" Luke turned his tired head and opened his eyes.
"We found you, honey, you're gonna be okay!" Daisy kissed his face and went to untie him, but found that she couldn't break through the padlock.
"Go get your tire iron." Luke suggested.
Daisy double timed back to Dixie. She decided to update everyone on the CB before she went back, but they weren't the only people she updated.
Artie had just pulled up, and was watching Daisy's every move.
"I found Luke, y'all! He seems alright, but I've just got to get my tire iron to untie him. He's out in the trees a few miles from where Enos shot Kent."
"Praise the Lord!" Jesse called in.
"Great work, Daisy, I told ya'll we'd find him." Cooter hooted.
"I'll get on over there right quick. Great job, Daisy." Bo called in.
Jesse, Cooter, Enos, Bo, and Corey all started off for the county line.
After Daisy left to get Luke, Artie pulled a distributer wire on Daisy's Jeep and on Kent's old car. He also set up a trip line. Then he laid low until they came back.
Daisy went back and un-tied Luke, updating him on everything that happened as they walked back, and when Daisy and a burnt-out Luke came back from within the trees they got caught up in the trip line. When they looked up, Artie was glaring at them, and so was a gun. The tire iron was too far to reach.
"I hear someone shot my good friend, Kent?"
"Your good friend Kent was a wife and child beatin', bank robbin' murderer." Daisy reminded him.
"Was a?"
"He died when the deputy shot him." This seemed to make Daisy happy, and that made Artie mad.
"You two are coming with me." He ordered.
Artie led Luke and Daisy out to his car. Luke was to weak to do much of anything about it, and Daisy was not much better off. She'd been up most of the night and had just run back and forth on rough terrain for quite some time.
Just as Artie started his car up, Bo and Cooter pulled up in the General Lee and Cooter's truck. Artie started driving as fast as he could. At this point it didn't matter the direction, just that he was getting away.
"Whoever that is has got Luke an' Daisy in there!" Bo CB'd.
"Who, what?" Jesse called in.
"Never mind, uncle Jesse, I'll explain later, right now I need y'all to get out here on route 15 as fast as ya can. Me an' Cooter'll letcha know where to go from there."
"I'll go left, you go right, we can try a little squeeze play." Cooter suggested.
"We don't wanna get Luke an' Daisy hurt." Bo denied that idea.
Everyone was quickly on the tail of Artie, Bo and Cooter within a few yards, and all the others on their way.
