Chapter Twelve

Outside Kirkman's residence…

Colby and David had driven to the house in silence as neither were sure what to even say to each other as they were still not sure what to make of the other.

"Big place." Colby commented as they looked at the huge house with a lawn to match in size, with a somewhat similar look David saw at the other house.

"Yep." David simply answered as they walked up to the front door

A butler led them to a lavish living room, where the Kirkmans were drinking some wine, not looking concerned despite being apparent victims of a stalker, though Colby figured that they were just trying to play it cool.

"The agents are here." the butler, who looked to be in his late 60s, told his employers before leaving the room

The couple looked completely disinterested in the agents and, David wasn't sure if he was imagining it or not, Jason was also giving him the stink eye for some reason.

"Sir, Ma'am" David said politely, hoping to start building some repertoire, though he wondered if it would even work.

Laura, still completely uninterested, only nodded, for both agents could have said was progress, though Colby was just annoyed by their attitude, making him think of their reputation and was starting to think it was well-earned.

"Is it all right if we ask you some questions?" David asked

Laura finally just sighed and motioned them to come and sit in one of their couches, which was surprisingly uncomfortable, making the agents not want to know how much the famous couple paid for it.

"So Mrs. Kirkman…." Colby started before Laura interrupted him

"It's Lady Kirkman to you, sir." Laura said

Colby had to use all of his willpower to not roll his eyes, as he had heard about Jason and Laura's ambition to have Jason knighted, even though his family relation to England was distant and it's been apparent that the Royal family doesn't seem to be aware of them for that matter.

"Right, Lady Kirkman, what can you tell us about the box you two were sent recently?" Colby asked

"That dreary thing? It was just a hideous box with bad pictures of us and several of our friends, like the insult." Laura started to rant, only to be subdued by her husband, who now looked as equally as upset as his wife.

"Yes and this letter about staying away from the Lauers, like why? They are the only tolerable people around here, as they appreciate the work we do." Jason said, who clearly was just as upset as his wife was.

"Okay, do you have any idea as to who could leave something like this, someone with a grudge, like a disgruntled co-worker?" David asked, just hoping to get something out of them.

"Director Jose Davis, that man is jealous of our success, despite what that lawsuit claimed." Jason said

Both agents remembered hearing about the lawsuit, as Davis had sued the couple on supposedly skipping out on pay, along with contract violations, though it was settled out of court and Davis had been out of the public eye ever since, almost like he dropped off the grid.

After a few questions that led to no new information, the agents politely escorted themselves out of the mansion and headed off back to the FBI building.

"Well, other than the thing with Davis, that didn't go anywhere." Colby moaned

"It's better than nothing, man." David said as they drove away, glad they didn't have to talk to those people anymore.

"Fame sure does strange things to people." Colby commented

"Maybe, but it can sure make one a bit unpleasant to be around." David agreed, as the drive continued in silence, with the two agents both still not sure as to what to even say to each other, and what the stalker could possibly want with these prominent people.
