Two Nights, Three Days

Disclaimer: As always I don't own the characters, they belong to the brilliant creators of NCIS Hawai'i and I'll put them back when I'm done.

A/N: Sorry this update took so long! These characters rely heavily on the unspoken, which makes them excellent performers who are incredibly difficult to write. More than once I've uttered "damn you Kate Whistler!" as I've struggled with describing her silent reactions that onscreen say so much more than words. Once again I hope I've done well by them, and appreciate all the love y'all have shown my little story.

Take My Breath Away

"Y'all are too sweet," Kate heard as she approached the crowd, "even if you are Okies." Then Lucy laughed, the melodic sound hitting the blonde's ears a split second before the vision of the brunette hit her eyes.

Oh my god.

Kate was stunned, speechless, unable to form words as she took in the sight of Lucy in a white minidress, her gorgeous black hair and dark skin perfectly highlighted by the brilliant white fabric. Her sharp intake of breath drew the brunette's attention, and the gaggle of admirers were so caught up in their game that they totally missed the interaction.

Turning when she heard that familiar gasp, Lucy's eyes landed on five feet eight inches of crimson clad glory.

Oh my god.

The background chatter of the three men bickering over Kate's intent competed with the flurry of hands slapping money on the bar behind her, the entire scenario filtering through Lucy's addled consciousness like snippets of irritating white noise. She shivered as she watched the beautiful blonde approach, her golden skin glowing against the radiant splash of dark red silk that swung sexily from her surf sculpted body.

"Hey," Lucy said, lips parched as she slid off the barstool. Holy shit why aren't my legs working? How are you even hotter than I remember?

"Hey," Kate replied, "you, ah, you look," she stammered, her voice quavering adorably as she once again fished for a word that simply didn't exist. Why is the English language so inadequate? Are you taller? Holy shit you're wearing fuck me heels?

"You too," Lucy whispered, her eyes traveling the length of her gorgeous lover's endlessly sexy body. Fuck you're gorgeous. I thought blue was your color, but that was before I saw you in red. Leaning in close she added, "That color looks really good on you."

Kate's abashed smile in response was adorable, and she sucked in a shaky breath as her body reacted to Lucy's softly whispered compliment. Am I always going to react this way to you? How are you even sexier than you were two hours ago?

"Hungry?" Kate asked, her tone a little too bright as she side-eyed the practically drooling men watching their interaction.

"Starving," Lucy replied, and the hapless trio finally understood what they were witnessing.

"She's the someone you were waiting for," Colton surmised, "isn't she?"

Patting Colton placatingly on the shoulder, Lucy leaned in between him and Pablo and grabbed the pile of money off the bar. A chorus of protests erupted as she tucked the cash into her clutch, but she simply shrugged and said, "What? She was looking at me."

"Okay Texas," Colton conceded with a good-natured chuckle, "dinner's on us."

"From the size of that stack I'd say breakfast too," Lucy laughed as she flashed the hook 'em sign, "I told y'all, don't mess with Texas."

The innocent banter seemed to irritate the blonde, and Lucy was perplexed when she saw the brief frown flit across her beautiful face. Are you seriously threatened by these goofballs?

"You ok?" She asked as they exited the bar.

"Yeah all good, you?"

"You don't seem good," Lucy replied.

Let it go Kate. Tell her you're fine. Don't make it weird by being possessive and jealous about the little things. "Texas, huh?"

"Uhm, yeah," Lucy answered, her brow furrowed as she tried to pin down the blonde's mood. God she's so hard to read. "I thought I told you that."

"You didn't," Kate replied, her attempt at cool and aloof coming across as anything but. Smooth Kate, didn't sound jealous at all.

"You're cute when you're jealous," Lucy smirked, confirming that Kate's attempt at nonchalance had fallen flat.

"I'm not jea-"

"You are, and it's hot," Lucy drawled, the comment visibly affecting the taller woman, "and you have no need to be. He doesn't even know my name."

"There was a time when I didn't know your name," Kate countered, her tone a little more petulant than she'd intended.

Lucy opened her mouth to respond, closed it again as she assessed the blonde's demeanor. "Kate?" She softly stated.

"Yeah?"

"He never will."

"Lucy, I-"

"Chloe Larssen, party of two," caught Kate's attention, and the fact that she had been about to confess that she wanted so much more than to just be the person who knew Lucy's name was lost to the interruption.

"Looks like our table is ready," she said, eyeing the brunette and wondering what the reaction would have been had she finished that sentence.

"Right," Lucy replied, perplexed by the name the hostess had called out. It's none of your business. You do it too. Let it go. "Chloe Larssen?" Or ask like a jealous child.

"Coffee name," Kate quipped, smiling as the explanation caused a thoughtful frown to crinkle the adorable mocha features.

A Table For Two

"So I've had some time to look at the menu," Lucy stated as soon as they were seated, "and I gotta say, we need to start with the scallops."

"Sounds great," Kate replied, and the instant response from the clearly distracted blonde made the brunette wonder if she'd even been heard.

"Kate?" Lucy questioned, reaching across the table to lower the menu the blonde was staring at like it contained life saving information, "What's wrong?"

I can't stop looking at you. I don't even want to try. I think I'm falling in love with you. "I'm really enjoying being here with you."

A radiant smile split Lucy's face as she replied, "Me too."

"So," Kate shifted, amusement coloring her tone as she propped her hand under her chin, "that little gesture you flashed back there?"

"Longhorn for life," Lucy laughed.

"Football? Really?"

"Yep," Lucy replied, "especially when some knucklehead tries to trash my home team."

"Like the guy with the hat?" The one who knew where you were from when I didn't? The one who was making you laugh? The one whose shoulder you were touching?

"Who, Colton?" Lucy asked.

"I guess, I didn't get a name."

Holy crap she is SO jealous. "Yeah, he's a clueless Sooner," Lucy chuckled, a tiny smile on her face as she reached for the blonde's hand. Shuddering as the familiar jolt of pleasure shot through her body, she was gratified to see that Kate seemed to feel it too.

Dammit Lucy, don't you know you're not the only one that feels it everywhere when we touch? If you keep touching me I'm going to - crap, what are you saying? "...I was almost embarrassed for him," the brunette admitted, "but then I told him I was not only very taken, but also a Texan. His Okie heart couldn't handle the thought of trying to bed a Longhorn, so he started to-"

"You said you were taken?"

"I did," Lucy replied, her thumb mindlessly caressing the soft skin underneath it. Kate's responding smile was breathtaking, her entire demeanor changing the moment Lucy's words hit her tightly wound consciousness. God you're beautiful, what do you see in me? I could spend the rest of my life looking at that smile. Wait, why are you pulling away?

Overwhelmed by the combination of the physical connection and the open adoration in Lucy's eyes, Kate sucked in a shaky breath and reluctantly slid her hand away from the stimulating warmth of her grasp. Shit, I hurt her feelings. I can't help it Lucy, if you're touching me I can't think straight or behave respectably. Maybe wine will help? Taking a fortifying sip from her glass, Kate returned her attention to the safety of deciding what to eat.

"Ok so," Lucy said, disappointed at the loss of contact as she took a sip from her own glass and tried to assess the blonde's justification for pulling away, "what did you think of your island tour? Was there anything we missed that was on your list?"

"I had a list?" Kate asked, her shocked expression causing Lucy to burst into laughter.

"Yes you nerd, you had a list," a still chuckling Lucy replied, "and we still have at least twenty-four hours to check off anything we missed."

We. I love that. The only thing I want to do for the next twenty-four hours is you. I wonder if, wait, what is she saying?

"...outside tonight," Lucy was saying, the words hitting Kate's ears as she realized that she had been so distracted by sexy naked thoughts of the other woman that she had failed to pay attention to whatever words those perfect lips were forming, "so maybe we could check them out. Did you want to, or?"

"Yeah, sure," a distracted Kate replied. What did I just agree to? Why is sitting across from you so mind scrambling for me?

"Awesome!" Lucy said, batting her eyes and confiding, "I can't wait to get you on the dance floor."

You just agreed to dancing in public with a woman whose handshake almost caused an orgasm. Awesome. Tell her it's a terrible idea. Tell her it's too big a risk. "I'd really love that," she smiled. Or that.

"I mean it's only fair that I get a chance to see your moves," Lucy smirked, "especially since you've already seen mine."

She's going to be the death of me. "Fair enough," Kate agreed as she leaned in on her elbows, her voice dropping to a husky whisper as she admitted, "I'm seriously dying to see you dance in those heels."

"Oh, I am from Texas," Lucy laughed, "land of cotillion training. I promise you, your mind's about to be blown by my moves."

"Already there," Kate mumbled, eyes down as she fought to contain the very vivid memory of Lucy dancing for her just a few short hours ago.

"What's that now?" Lucy replied.

"All ready to order," Kate deflected, flagging their waiter down.

Shut Up And Dance With Me

After lingering over their drinks for a bit and blushing simultaneously when offered the dessert menu, they settled their bill and followed the sound of the music floating across the lanai.

"Gosh I haven't been out to see a band since before I moved to the island," Lucy admitted as she grabbed Kate by the hand and led her to the makeshift dance floor in the courtyard, "and to be honest, I only want to see one now because it means I get to dance with you."

Kate's smile in response was awkward, adorable, and Lucy simply couldn't resist the temptation to pull her close and lean in for a kiss.

"No, no no, no no, no no," Kate warned, her hand firmly on the brunette's chest to stop her forward motion.

"Ouch, really?" Lucy pouted, her body swaying as she slowly started to move to the music.

"Yes really," Kate responded, her eyes darkening as she watched that sexy, sexy body moving to the rhythm of the music. "Lucy, I-" Struggle with being my authentic self in public. Feel like everyone is staring at us. Don't trust myself to stop at just a kiss.

"Kate," the brunette interrupted, her keen observation skills picking up on the hesitation and nervous energy radiating off of the other woman, "what is it?"

"I know it's probably all in my head," Kate admitted, "but I feel like everyone is staring at us."

"Oh, that's not in your head," Lucy assured her, "they are staring." Watching Kate's reaction, she crinkled her nose as she recognized how uncomfortable the taller woman seemed under the scrutiny that their appearance on the dance floor had attracted. Placing a reassuring hand on a sun-kissed arm she whispered, "They're staring because you're hot."

Kate turned bright red, her complexion a shade lighter than her dress as she asked, "How do you know that?"

"Through the magic of sight," Lucy drawled, looking her up and down.

"I could say the same about you," Kate whispered, her own eyes hungrily devouring the delicious sight of the woman in front of her.

"Okay so," a visibly shaken Lucy responded, "they're staring at both of us. So what?"

"It bothers me," Kate admitted.

"Because I'm a woman?" Lucy asked, her demeanor shifting into an uncharacteristic display of insecurity.

"No," Kate sighed, "because I'm normally a very private person and this," she paused, took a breath, "this is out of my wheelhouse."

"Okay," Lucy replied, "we can go back to the room, keep this just between us and avoid the crowd. But before we go I will remind you that this is Fun Kate's last chance to call the shots, and I feel like she's being suppressed."

"You're right," Kate admitted after a brief silence, the two words expelled in a self-deprecating sigh.

"I know," Lucy affirmed, and the blonde wondered how she managed to make looking smug seem so adorable. Smiling as it dawned on her that Lucy had remembered the tiny detail about her list of things she wanted to do on the island, she whispered, "I can't believe you remembered that."

"I pay attention to what matters," Lucy replied.

"The fact that I gave my to do list a silly name matters?"

"Everything about you matters."

Wow. File that under "the quickest way to get a woman to take her clothes off." I love the way you pay attention to the little things, the way you look at me like I'm the only one in the room even when everyone is obviously looking at you. Do you not know that all eyes are on you? God, I'm so into you. I can't imagine - shit, there's those guys. I am not about to put on a show for them.

Kate's silence was profound, and Lucy watched the internal struggle play out across those beautiful features as she waited for a response to her admission. Did I go too far? I shouldn't have said that, it gives off creepy stalker vibes. Why did I have to go and make it weird? What is she looking at?

Turning around, Lucy followed Kate's glare to Colton and the Oklahoma crew, who had moved their party outside and were now surveying the crowded dance floor for their next mark.

"Kate?"

"I'm not putting on a show for them," the blonde growled, "can we please just go back to the room? I bet we can hear the band from the balcony. I-"

"No," the brunette insisted, shaking her head and pulling her onto the dance floor. "We aren't dancing for them, we're dancing for us."

"But they're watching."

"Let them watch."

"It doesn't creep you out to know that they'll be picturing us in their fantasies later?" Kate shuddered, grossed out by the thought of the men pleasuring themselves to images of herself and her gorgeous Lucy.

"As long as I've got the real thing in my bed? No," Lucy admitted, "besides, the fantasy was already there the minute you walked into the bar. Did you see that pile of money?"

Rolling her eyes in response, Kate groused, "You're the one they all wanted."

"Yeah," Lucy laughed, "I was. Until they saw you."

Speechless, Kate looked her up and down in disbelief. "How?" She finally muttered, "How could anyone be close enough to touch you and not want you?"

Lucy's silence was telling, her eyes smoldering as the words buried themselves in her brain.

"I could say the same to you."

"Lucy I think we should-"

"Please don't ask me to take you upstairs again," Lucy implored, "because this time, I will."

Dammit I can't say no to you. "Let's see you move in those heels," Kate replied, and Lucy's joyous smile in response was everything she didn't know she needed.

As promised, stiletto heeled Lucy was quite adept on the dance floor, and soon Kate was having so much fun spinning and whirling with the precocious brunette that she almost forgot that she was ridiculously turned on by the mere existence of the charming Texan. They were so wrapped up in each other that neither of them noticed they were attracting a crowd until a familiar drawl boomed "Damn Texas! Well done," and Lucy had the good grace to blush in response.

"Seriously?" An exasperated Kate inquired, her jealousy rearing its ugly head as the song ended and a slow song started.

"Ignore them," Lucy growled, pulling Kate close and moving in time to the music, "eyes on me."

Trembling as she reacted to the feeling of the warm body pressed up against hers, Kate slid her hands up Lucy's back to pull her even closer. "You feel so good," she whispered into a mocha ear, her lips so close to the sensitive skin that her warm breath caused an involuntary shiver to course through the diminutive brunette.

"Behave Kate," Lucy warned, her voice shaky as her eyes fluttered shut and she fought to control her body's visceral response to the gentle caress, "don't you know what you do to me?"

"When I touch you anywhere," Kate purred, "you feel it everywhere."

Eyes downcast, Lucy turned her head away and stated, "You're mocking me."

"God no! Lucy," she sighed, placing a finger under her chin and urging her to look into her eyes, "don't you know the feeling is mutual?"

Seeing the insecurity raging in those gorgeous brown eyes, the normally very private, PDA hating Kate made a rash decision and leaned forward, her thumb softly stroking an exquisite cheekbone as she captured the downturned lips in what was meant to be a reassuring peck. The brief contact immediately escalated when Lucy's lips parted, and the blonde found herself unable to restrain from slipping her tongue into the welcoming warmth of the brunette's mouth. Before she had a chance to process the increased fervor of the heated caress Kate found her hands roaming, the urge to touch the irresistible body too great, the temptation too strong now that she had released her shackles and allowed herself the freedom to be just a woman for this one night. Lucy's response was glorious, her hands burying themselves in the lush blonde hair and pulling her impossibly closer as she emitted a sexy little growl.

Groaning at the glory of freely expressing her desire for the alluring brunette in public, Kate soon found her hands sliding just a tiny bit lower, stopping when her fingertips reached the sexy curve where a panty line should have been. "Lucy?" She gulped, pulling back and looking the shorter woman in the eyes, "are you not wearing-"

"I'm not," Lucy interrupted, needing to stop the blonde from saying the word lest it send her over the edge, "for as much as I knew I'd be wearing them, I figured why bother?"

Fuck that's hot. I never swear, what have you done to me? Now that I know, I know, and I don't understand why we're wasting time out here when we -

"Kate?"

"Yeah?"

"I bet we can hear the band from the balcony."

"I bet we can."

"Race you to the elevator?"

"I thought you'd never ask."

Love In An Elevator

Much to Kate's chagrin, wolf whistles, catcalls and "yee-haws!" followed them as they made their hasty exit from the dance floor. Tumbling into the blessedly empty elevator, the pair were so wrapped up in their need of each other that almost all coherent thought was left outside the lift. Almost. Lucy gasped when she found herself pinned to the cold steel of the elevator wall with hungry lips on hers and eager hands curling up under her thighs. She knew that Kate was about to lift her up and take her right there in the very public, very likely surveilled space, and the pulsing ache between her legs that was inches from finding relief against a muscular thigh almost allowed it to happen.

Almost.

"Kate, stop," Lucy gasped, "cameras."

Cameras? Cameras? Why is she talking about...fuck. Cameras.

The blonde's entire body shook with the effort it took to release her lover, to step back and remove her hands and act respectable for the rest of the tortuously slow ride to their floor. Lucy stood frighteningly still, entranced by the display of self-control. The blonde's need was palpable, the tension radiating off of her rigid body so intensely that Lucy could feel it in every fiber of her being. Taking deep, erratic breaths, the blonde struggled to maintain control, her palms flat against the elevator wall with Lucy trapped between her ramrod straight arms.

Is it you or is it this island? This isn't me, I'm not the girl that makes out on the dance floor and initiates sex in a public place. I don't forget about cameras, my life and career are constant reminders that somebody is always watching. "Do you have any idea what you do to me?" Kate whispered, her voice straining with the effort it took to keep herself from touching the bewitching brunette.

"Kate, I-" Like to have fun, but I'm not the girl who sleeps with somebody she just met. I'm not the girl who wears heels and a dress and can't enjoy a date because a simple touch sends me into overdrive. What is it about you that has me acting like a reckless schoolgirl? "I think you need to back up before one of us does something we're both going to regret."

"Is that a promise?" Kate asked, her voice thick with desire.

"Kate..." Lucy warned, dropping her eyes to the ground and refusing to look up until the blonde woodenly lowered her arms and turned away.

Just as they arrived at their floor and the doors slid open Lucy's phone started to ring, and though she was loathe to answer it she knew it was important if Jesse was calling her on her personal time. Frowning as she followed Kate down the hall, she said, "Sorry, I need to take this," and answered it.

"Hey Jesse, I'm kind of in the middle of something, what's..." Kate heard, and she realized that Lucy had stopped walking when she heard, "Sure, put him on," from quite a few paces behind her. Was she instantly pissed off and jealous that this Jessie was important enough to take a call from right this moment? Hell yes. Did she want Lucy to know it? Hell no. We're just having fun here, remember? You leave tomorrow, she has her own life.

"Hiiii Jake," Lucy said to Jesse's son, the precocious little boy who had an adorable crush on her, "what's the matter bud?" Frowning as she listened to the sad tale of his Pokemon Go dilemma, she noticed that Kate had proceeded to the room without her, so she leaned on the railing in the hallway to finish the conversation. After promising to drive the little guy to the Polynesian Cultural Center (an apparent treasure trove of Pokemon Go action) and assuring him that Raichu was indeed the coolest of the Pokemon, she asked him to put his dad back on the phone. "Thanks Luce," Jesse said, "I hated to bother you, but he's been like this for two days and you're the only one he'll listen to."

"No problem," Lucy smiled, then after a brief pause added, "Can I ask you a question?"

"Sure," he replied, "what's up?"

"Should I renew my lease?"

"I don't know," he replied, "do you like your place?"

"Jesse!"

"Lucy?"

"I'm not asking real estate questions," she huffed, "I'm asking if I should...should I start job hunting?"

"Wait, I'm confused," he admitted, "didn't Tennant reach out to you?"

"She said welcome to the team," Lucy explained, "but I saw how many interviews she has set up, so -"

"Oh," he said, "you're wondering if your position is permanent."

"Yes, because if not I'm going to need to start applying for other posts, maybe DC-"

"It's permanent," Jesse cut her off, "Tennant's only hiring one more. So unless you decide there's a reason the mainland is more appealing, your home is at Pearl."

"Awesome," she smiled, though the temptation to follow Kate to DC was as real as her joy at finally finding permanence somewhere outside of her family's grasp.

"Everything ok Luce?" Jesse asked, surprised that the young Junior Agent didn't seem more enthusiastic about the news he'd just delivered.

"Yeah, I just...it's nothing," she finished, not wanting to admit how fast she had fallen for the blonde enigma waiting down the hall for her. For all you know she's not even from DC, maybe that's a ruse too.

"Ok then, see you Monday."

"Actually I'll see you tomorrow," Lucy laughed, "I have a date with Jake at six."

Can't Stop This Thing We Started

Surprised when she unlocked the door and realized that Lucy wasn't right behind her, a slightly miffed Kate flipped the latch so the brunette could simply walk in when she was done with her phone call. Peeking out into the hallway, Kate saw all of that dressed to kill sexiness leaning adorably against the railing in the corridor, her smile so genuine as her voice changed in response to whoever she was talking to. "Hiiiii Jake," floated to her, and it was obvious to the eavesdropping blonde that the woman was having an animated conversation with a child. And she was jealous, because Lucy never seemed that easy with her. Was this Jessie her ex? Co-parent to the child? It could very well be her son. You have no idea who she really is, or who relies on her every day. Is this why she didn't take you to her home?

Pouring herself a glass of wine, she decided to just calmly bring up the interruption and discuss it like adults. Obviously, this kid was important to the brunette, so much so that the minute the phone rang she had been able to just turn off that impossible to ignore desire like it had never even surged in the first place. Am I the only one that's this ridiculously turned on? Does she really want me like I want her, or is this just a game for her? We definitely have some things to talk about.

Lucy's smile was enormous as she walked into the hotel room, her future on the island certain now that Jesse had confirmed Tennant's intent. Though she often exuded confidence, the truth was that she was a very high functioning train wreck of insecurity and doubt, hence her inability to ignore the phone when her superior had called. You probably made Kate feel slighted, god she was so turned on. Way to go Tara, once again you let work ruin your personal life. "Hey Kate, where did you-"

Seeing the absolute joy in Lucy's expression was a mixed bag for Kate, who was both wildly jealous because she wasn't the reason it was there but also irrationally turned on by the way the exuberance lit up that beautiful face. God, you're glowing. Happy looks so good on you. Fuck talking, I have to taste you.

"Hey Kate, where did you-" The words died on Lucy's lips as a blur of motion crashed into her, and she once again found herself at the gorgeous blonde's mercy.

"So fucking beautiful," Kate growled, her mouth hot on Lucy's neck, her chin, her jaw, blazing a hungry trail across the exquisite features. "I can't get enough of you," she groaned, her voice strained as she was finally free to give into the desire to lift Lucy into her arms, her exposed leg connecting with the warm and dripping center that had been too tempting to resist once she'd known there was nothing underneath that sexy white dress.

"Oh my god, Kate," Lucy moaned, her mound grinding eagerly against the warm silk of the bare thigh. Her heels were digging painfully into the blonde's backside as she spread herself wider, straining for increased contact as she whispered, "Oh my fucking god."

"Lucy," the blonde hissed as she slid her fingers through the slick folds, "god, you're so wet. Come for me."

Kate's sexy command was too much for the overstimulated brunette, and the erotic assault on her sex and her senses exploded into a shuddering, screaming climax. To her credit Kate managed to both remain upright and not drop the woman coming apart in her arms, who she lovingly cradled until the aftershocks subsided and she reluctantly lowered her to the ground. "You ok?" She asked, an amused smile on her face as her thumb gently caressed the delicate jawline. God you're beautiful. I love that I'm the reason you look like that. Seriously, are you ok?

Shell-shocked, stunned by the veracity of the sexual explosion she had just experienced, Lucy replied, "Yup," though her delivery was a little distracted and non-committal.

"Good," Kate whispered, "because I have so much more I need to do with you before this night is through."
