Author's Note:
Hiya!
I just wanted to give a few announcements before this chapter.
1.) I know it hasn't been that long since I got back to writing, and as much as it breaks my heart to say this, I have to take abother hiatus due to health, and life reasons. I am trying to still write on my down time but it is very limited time.
2.) I have many WiPs. Many may be taken down until i can complete the stories.
3.) I know a few people have been asking me when I will be updating a lot of stories, bit the thing is I can only update the stories I have prewritten chapters in. All the stories that are ten chapters will be taken down. Sorry.
I hope you can all understand, and hope you can wait until i do get better... Anyways, enough of my sob story, and more of this story... Enjoy!
Seven And A Half Months Later:
I sighed as I slowly moved to sit down in my chair.
The week had been long. Felt even longer than it probably was. It was to put in a few words interesting.
Following the talk with me, Jasper went back to D.C. with his wife, Alice.
So far, everything had mostly gone to normal. For the most part. My patients were all doing exceptionally well. Even though three of them were on bed rest so, that meant I had more house calls, and trips than before. Especially since one of my patients lives within the mountain range.
I was lucky Mr. Cope, or as I now know him, Uncle Marcus helped me make sure my baby could handle all the trips. I found out that I had more family than I thought after speaking with my Uncle Aaron.
As it turns out everything that I thought that I knew was a lie. My entire life has been a lie. I didn't know what to think anymore, or what to believe.
He explained everything to me. Why my mom had changed her name to my dad's last name for safety reasons, why she never told me about Uncle Marcus or Uncle Caius because all three of my uncles worked for the F.B.I then.
She had tried to protect me my entire life. By changing our names, locations of where we lived from D.C. to Clearwilde, her appearance, mine and constantly traveling out of the country. Even when it meant that her life was at stake. She protected me from everything that she could, until the last moment of her life.
It hurt to hear but at least I now understood her reasonings. A mother is willing to do anything to protect her child, even die for them.
He also explained the entire situation from beginning to end, he told me that he would be in touch, and to expect a visit from him along with my two other uncles.
Once Uncle Aaron was gone, I busied myself doing laundry, and cleaning out the already spotless refrigerator, before calling the clinic I was previously working and asking to see if I could get my job back. Lucky for me, my job hadn't been filled yet, so I was hired on the spot.
Things started to flow. Eventually, I got after a while I managed to form a routine, then began to feel more and more at home. Especially, because Mrs.Cope - or Aunt Didi - would visit me as soon as I was home. Both she and Uncle Marcus were now closer to me than ever before.
Visiting when I was home to make sure I was alright.
"Bella, hey, there's a ,uh, a gentleman here to see you," Angela informed me.
I frowned, looking down at the table in front of me. The white, styrofoam box full of Chinese takeout sat untouched, there on the table in front of me. I blinked before exhaling heavily and turning to look up at Angela, "Edward… Collin?" She said.
I sighed, "It's Cullen." I mumbled as I winced, slowly standing up.
"Do you know him?" She asked me, curiously.
I stared at her, with annoyance before sighing, I debated whether or not to answer before deciding against it, "He's my ex-husband. Now, go back to the reception desk before the women out there get irritable." I told her.
She sighed, and nodded, "I figured he was something like that… Will you ever tell me what happened?" She asked.
"No. Not until I am ready to." I told her, before moving past her, and slowly walking down the hallway, and to the front desk.
I hesitated as I stood on the other side of that door. I could hear my coworkers whispering amongst themselves.
I was standing there debating whether or not to walk through the door before I remembered what Jasper told me. I should listen to what he had to say, but I so badly wanted to drive home and lay down after the long morning I had had.
Still, as I stood there, with Jasper's words ringing in my head, along with everything else that happened the following days. Let's just say I couldn't help but wonder if I should see him. Or wonder what he wanted.
It had been almost eight months since he sent the divorce papers without so much as a call.
I was later informed that he never signed them. So, I figured it didn't matter what I wanted anymore. I wasn't going to stop him.
I figured a quick divorce was what he wanted so I didn't fight him on anything. I refused to get any type of alimony from him, despite him repeatedly asking me to agree to it. I asked my attorney to do everything in his power to get the divorce to finalize. No alimony, no anything.
Jasper then visited me with another man, one named Emmett and their wives. Promising to come back the next chance they got.
A few months ago Uncle Aro came to visit and was surprised by my state of health, so he immediately called Uncle Marcus and they both took me to the hospital.
With the divorce being finalized two weeks ago, I figured it would be the last time I would hear of him, or even speak of him. I guess I was wrong.
I stood there staring I wondered what he was doing here, before sighing and slowly moving to exit the door.
I have no idea what he was doing here but I wouldn't hurt to ask.
As I walked in he turned to look at me, a look of determination was on his face as he turned.
"Bella."
"Edward," I replied tonelessly.
He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "You look, uh .." he began as he scanned me.
"Bigger than the last time I saw you? Yeah. That's what happens while carrying a baby." I deadpanned.
He sputtered for a few seconds, before sighing and reaching up to rub his neck. "I'm sorry." He finally said.
I remained quiet, staring at him blankly, before sighing. "Angela, tell the doctor that I'm taking my lunch break in the restaurant next door. You and the girls can have the food in the break room, I haven't touched it." I mumbled as I moved past him to go outside to talk without eavesdroppers. I walked past the parking lot towards the restaurant next door, they had a small outdoor patio, which had tables and chairs under the shade.
I ignored the looks I got from the people there and sat down at one of the tables.
Immediately after I sat down one of the waitresses walked out and set a pair of glasses of water and two plates in front of us.
"Do you know what you want?" She asked me.
"Yeah, I'll take the alfredo with chicken ontop. Extra sauce, please." I said without looking up. "Oh, and some pink lemonade please." I added.
She nodded before turning to look at Edward who picked randomly, before turning to me.
We watched her disappear back into the restaurant before turning back to each other.I stared at him, my mind wanting so badly to believe that there was a good reason for him to be here.
"I'm here to apologize for how I acted." He finally said.
I sighed, moving my eyes to my hands, as he stared at me. "Is that all? Because if it is, you can go now." I told him.
"No, uh, you…" He sighed. " I'm sorry I phased you out. Look, I panicked when I thought that someone would find out about us. I don't want you getting hurt. Not after everything you've been through. Not after what we went through in Brazil." He finally told me.
I looked down, willing my eyes not to show the pain I felt when Uncle Aaron delivered the news. At first, then I angry, now I felt indifferent.
"You didn't phase me out. No, you abandoned me. With no way to call you. No way to contact you. You left me when I needed you the most. You being here again doesn't change that." I told him as the waitress walked back in with the food.
"Here you are. Do you need anything else?" She asked us.
I shook my head. "No. Thanks Sally." I replied, politely.
She nodded before disappearing inside once more.
I watched her looming form disappear before turning to look at him. "You didn't just abandon me, you made a choice for me. Twice. I gave you a chance and you threw it away like it didn't matter. I'm not angry, I'm not bitter. I'm hurt." I finally told him as the tears began to fall, despite how quick I blinked.
"I didn't want to." He confessed.
I frowned, "What do you mean, you didn't want to? If you didn't want to—" I began to ask but realized who might have done this. "I'll kill him." I growled as I moved to get up.
"Wait. What—? Bella, calm down. He told me his reasoning and I— Well, I don't exactly agree with him, I understand why he told me to do it." He finally said.
I frowned. "He told you to not answer my calls. He told you to send your sisters and their husbands over here to check on me. Then to divorce me. Seriously? He saw how much I cried, how much I suffered, yet he and you chose to hurt me even more?" I asked in disbelief.
"We did it, once more to protect you. Because the case we had needed to be closed, and those people to be put away. It's why we took your testimony at Headquarters. Why Jasper and Emmett were sent to check on you. Why I kept low contact. Because until the case was closed you still were in danger. I didn't want you going anywhere near those parasites and run the risk of them finding out that you were my wife and were pregnant with my kid." He finally told me.
I frowned, "Was the case closed?" I finally asked.
He stared at me for a moment, an unfathomable expression on his face as he did. "Yes. They were all charged for the murders of your parents along with a couple of others, treason, blackmail, attempted murder, to name a few." He replied.
I sighed, "Does that mean we're finally safe?" I asked, hesitantly, my hand moving to my stomach.
He nodded, giving me a reassuring smile as he reached across the table and took my hand into his.
The warmth surprised me for a moment, before I relaxed in my seat.
"You're both safe." He reassured me.
"I don't— I don't… I don't know how to feel about that." I told him, honestly, blinking hard.
"You can feel any way you want, as long as you know that you are now safe. That you can be finally happy." He told me as he gently squeezed my hand gently.
More tears gathered in my eyes and fell down my face as I stared at him.
A small kick tapping on the hand I held over my stomach as if in agreement with Edward.
We were finally free.
