Chapter 10: Camping
"Last time on Totally Epic: Hawaiian Style, the teams had a paddle board race on the ocean. The girls informed the guys about Kevin's ways and they all formed a little alliance to try and get rid of him. Johnny ended up winning immunity, and the other contestants managed to get rid of Kevin. What'll happen now? What'll they do next? And who'll be next to leave? Find out now on Totally Epic: Hawaiian Style." Monica announced.
It was early morning, and everyone was still asleep. In the girls' trailer, they were fast asleep and Sestuna was tossing and turning. She was having a dream.
She was standing in a room, where a ball was taking place. She was wearing a white fancy gown, and people were dancing. Suddenly, there was a tap on her shoulder. She turned around, and saw Edu wearing a black tuxedo.
"May I have this dance?" he asked, offering her his hand.
At first Setsuna was taken aback, but then she took his hand.
"You may." she replied.
They went to the dance floor, and ballroom danced gracefully. Edu then looked deep into her eyes, and leaned in closer for a kiss. Setsuna leaned forward to return it...
Suddenly, she was bolted awake by the sound of the alarm.
"Aw man." she complained.
"(Yawns), morning Setsuna." greeted Lucky.
"Morning." Setsuna grumbled.
"Something wrong?" asked Vivian.
"I was having a great dream with Edu in it, when the alarm woke me up."
"Bummer." replied Lucky.
They left the trailer, and went to the showers. As they walked, they passed the guys. It seemed that they had just finished their showers and cleaning.
"Morning, Edu." Setsuna told sweetly.
"Morning, Setsuna." Edu replied.
Then she winked at him.
"It's been a while since I flirted with Edu. So I figured I better start making up for lost time." Setsuna told the audience.
"So Edu, are you finally gonna make a move on Setsuna?" asked Kahlin.
"I think I am." Edu replied.
"We're almost at the end, and once this show's over Sestuna and I may not see each other ever again. So it's now or never." Edu explained.
After the girls had showered and gotten into their clothes, they went to the mess hall for breakfast. The guys were already there, and were eating bacon and eggs. The girls got their plates of food, and ate their breakfast.
Just as they were finishing, Monica and Hailey came inside.
"Good morning, everyone. Hope you had a good night's sleep, because as soon as you finish breakfast today's challenge will begin." Monica announced.
"What are we gonna do?" asked Lucky.
"You're going camping." Monica replied.
"You'll have the details after you're finished." Hailey told them.
Then they left.
"So we're going camping? Sound simple." Johnny replied.
"Don't be so sure." warned Vivian.
Once everyone finished breakfast, they went outside where Monica, Hailey, and Charlotte were waiting for them by a bus.
"All aboard, everyone. Next stop your camping grounds."
Everyone got on the bus, and when Edu sat down he decided to make a move with Setsuna.
"Hey, Setsuna, saved you a seat." he told her.
Setsuna smiled at him.
"Thanks." she replied, sitting next to him.
After everyone was in their seats, Hailey got in the driver's seat and drove away from the lot.
As they rode down the road, Charlotte looked out the window at the scenery. She was so interested in it, she didn't notice that Pepper had snuck out of her bag, and the little chinchilla scurried down the aisle.
"You know, Setsuna, being on this show has been amazing." Edu told her.
Setsuna smiled, and replied,
"Yeah, not every day you get to go to Hawaii."
"And there's meeting you."
Setsuna felt herself blush. Pepper continued to scurry down the aisle, and found himself in front of Lucky. Curious, he climbed up her leg, and sat down on her lap. When Lucky felt something crawling on her, she looked a little alarmed, but relaxed when she saw the chinchilla.
"Hey, little guy." she told him.
"What are you doing here?"
Pepper squeaked at her.
"Oh, you were just exploring huh?"
And the two continued chatting.
"I sometimes like to chat with animals." Lucky told.
When the bus stopped, Charlotte noticed that Pepper was gone. Slightly panicked, she began looking around.
"Pepper, Pepper? Where are you little guy?"
Lucky then came up to her, with Pepper in her hand.
"Here he is, Charlotte." she told her.
And Pepper hopped back to her.
"Pepper, there you are. Thanks Lucky."
"No problem, Charlotte."
And she walked on.
"You can't be running off, little guy."
And she put Pepper back in her bag.
Outside, Monica split the group up.
"Okay, boys on the left, girls on the right." she instructed.
The contestants went to their designated sides, and Hailey and Charlotte gave them backpacks filled with supplies.
"This will be a battle of the sexes camping trip. It's simple, you'll have to spend the night in this state park. In your backpacks are necessities, but you'll have to use your wits, and your own hands."
Everyone looked at each other.
"We'll come back for you in the morning. Whoever makes it back to this parking lot first wins. Good luck."
And with that, Monica, Hailey, and Charlotte got back on the bus, and drove away.
"Well we're on our own now." said Sestuna.
"Better get started." declared Johnny.
And they went into the national park, and split up by going down different paths.
"Good luck, girls." called Johnny.
"Thanks." replied Vivian.
And off they went.
"Well so far, this is fine." said Lucky.
"Well why don't we set up camp over there?" suggested Setsuna.
She pointed to a nice little clearing by some trees.
"Let's go." said Vivian.
They went there, and started setting up camp.
"Let's see what's in these backpacks." mentioned Lucky.
They opened them up, and looked through them. In Setsuna's backpack was a little pamphlet that showed what berries and nuts were safe to eat, a small pocket knife, and a bottle of water.
Vivian's pack had a couple rolls of toilet paper, and paper towels. And in Lucky's was some rope and a couple towels.
"Well let's get started." declared Setsuna.
And the girls started setting up their camp.
With the boys, they found a spot next to a pond. In Kahlin's backpack was some matches and a fishing hook. Edu's had a tent and a couple rolls of toilet paper, and Johnny's had a compass and towels.
"Ready to win this challenge, boys?" asked Johnny.
"You bet, let's do this." told Edu.
They started to pitch their tent, and gathered wood for a fire.
"I wonder how the girls are doing?" thought Kahlin.
Back with the girls, they got their tent up and were now getting ready to see about finding food.
"Okay, according to this pamphlet we should avoid berries that are orange and red." read Setsuna.
"We can do that. Either of you know how to fish?" asked Lucky.
"I was taunt how to hunt, so I know a thing or two." Vivian informed.
"Let's go."
And they left the camp. As they walked, Lucky heard something rustle in the trees. She strayed away and found some birds hanging out on a branch.
"Hey there." she greeted.
The birds happily chirped back at her, as if they understood.
"Lucky!" called Setsuna.
Lucky looked and saw her waving at her.
"Come on."
"Coming."
And she hurried after the girls.
The boys went to a small body of water, and used the fishing hook, a plant stem, and a stick as a fishing pole.
"This isn't working." said Kahlin.
"Calm down guys. Fishing takes patience." Johnny advised.
"He does have a point." Edu replied.
"Fine." Kahlin sighed.
A little while later, he got a bite. Kahlin managed to bring in a fish that was sort of on the small side.
"Not bad for your first catch." Edu complimented.
"If we do that two more times, we can each have a fish." Johnny replied.
Back with the girls, they were trying their hand at fishing.
"So how do you fish without a pole?" wondered Lucky.
"Just watch and learn." Vivian told them.
She looked at the water, and spotted a fish swimming by. And then with a swift hand, Vivian swiped the fish out of the water.
"Got it!" she shouted.
"Wow, impressive." replied Setsuna.
"Thanks." Vivian said.
After doing it a couple more times, they caught enough fish for dinner.
"I don't suppose you know how to clean it?" wondered Lucky.
"Don't worry, I got that covered."
Soon the groups had their fish caught, and were back at their campsites. They then started their campfires. It was easier for the boys since they had matches, but the girls had to use sticks to start a fire.
But they made a small flame. As the sun began to set, they all settled down.
"You know this isn't too bad." said Setsuna.
"Yeah, this challenge is in the bag." Vivian agreed.
Suddenly there was a rustle in the bushes.
"What was that?"
The girls started to get a little scared, but Lucky went over to the bushes.
"Lucky what are you doing?"
Lucky peeked into the bushes, and then started talking. Curious, the others went over to her. In the bushes were a family of mongooses.
"It's just some little creatures. The mama was looking after her babies."
"Were you talking to them?" asked Vivian.
"Yeah, I like to talk to small animals sometimes." Lucky explained.
"Oh, really?" wondered Setsuna.
"Yeah, I had a conversation with Pepper during the bus ride here. And I met some birds earlier."
"It's interesting that Lucky talks to animals. I just hope that doesn't backfire on us." Vivian hoped.
With the guys, they were telling each other ghost stories. "And no one ever saw the couple again." finished Kahlin.
"That was a good story, Kahlin." said Edu.
"Thanks."
"So what do we do now?" wondered Johnny.
"I've got my tarot cards. I could read your futures." Kahlin suggested.
That sounded good to the boys, and Kahlin pulled out his cards.
As it got later, the teens eventually went to sleep. Things were going smoothly, until it began to rain. At first it was just a drizzle, then it got harder and harder.
"This isn't what I pictured for a camping trip." complained Lucky.
"Don't worry, Lucky. I'm sure it'll stop soon." comforted Setsuna.
But then they heard it coming down harder.
"Or not." replied Vivian.
With the guys, they were uncomfortable in the rain, but they were trying to make the best of it.
"At least we have these towels." said Kahlin, drying himself off with one.
"I hope the girls are okay." Edu hoped.
"I'm sure they're fine. Let's just try and get some sleep." Johnny told them.
When the sun came up the next morning, it had stopped raining. The girls were a little damp, but they managed to get dry.
"Well that was probably the roughest night I've ever had." said Lucky.
"Well at least it's over now." replied Setsuna.
"We better get ready to leave." Vivian told.
And they started to pack up their camp. With the boys, they were finishing up their packing.
"Maybe we can beat the girls back. Come on guys." urged Johnny.
"We're right behind you." called Edu.
Each group hurried to get back to the parking lot. While the girls were crossing a stream, Lucky saw some ducks.
"Hey guys." she greeted. The ducks quacked back at her.
"Yeah, I bet the water's nice."
Setsuna and Vivian looked back, and saw Lucky lingering.
"Lucky, we gotta go." called Setsuna.
But she was too caught up in talking to the ducks.
"What's going on here?" Vivian wanted to know.
"Lucky's talking to ducks." explained Setsuna.
The girls then went over to her, and dragged her away.
"Come on we gotta go." urged Setsuna.
"Oh, sorry girls." Lucky replied sheepishly.
In the parking lot, the bus had just pulled in. "I wonder how they did last night?" thought Hailey.
"I'm sure they did fine. After all I gave them the right things." Monica replied.
"Well it did rain last night." Charlotte mentioned.
"Ah a little rain never hurt anyone."
Just then, they heard the sound of running.
"Here they come."
The three waited, and saw Johnny, Edu, and Kahlin reach them first.
"Congratulations boys, you're the winners." Monica told them.
The guys cheered, and a minute later the girls showed up.
"Aw man." complained Setsuna.
"Sorry ladies, you loose. I'll be seeing you three at the ceremony tonight."
And they all got back on the bus and drove off.
"I know exactly who's leaving. I mean no offense, but she did make us coming in last." Vivian confessed.
"I hope Setsuna's not going." Edu hoped.
Back at the site, Edu took Setsuna aside.
"Hey, you didn't do anything wrong did you?" he asked her.
"Oh no, I didn't to anything."
"Oh, that's good."
The two smiled at each other, and then Setsuna hugged him. This surprised Edu, but he ended up hugging her back.
"A hug? That can only mean a kiss is next." Edu said.
"I figured I'd make the first real move. Besides Edu feels pretty good." Setsuna told.
In the girls trailer, Lucky walked in and saw that Vivian and Setsuna were already there.
"(Sighs), girls." she said.
The two looked at her, looking concerned.
"Listen I know you're planning on voting me off. And...I won't hold it against you."
The two looked surprised.
"Well...it's nothing personal, Lucky. You're a great girl, but you did cost us the challenge." Vivian told her.
"Yep." Setsuna agreed.
"I understand, I won't hold it against you."
That night at the elimination ceremony, the girls sat in the spots waiting for their flowers.
"All right ladies, you've cast your votes so let's get down to it." Monica told them.
She then looked at her clipboard.
"Vivian."
She got up, and got her flower from Charlotte.
"And the final flower goes to...Setsuna."
Setsuna got her flower, and Lucky got up to leave.
"Goodbye everyone." Lucky said.
"It was nice having you Lucky." Charlotte replied.
"And that's another episode of Totally Epic: Hawaiian Style. What'll happen next? Find out next time." Monica announced to the audience.
