Chapter 4 The past
Iris looked out the window.
„The school bus is coming." Iris called to Sheila.
Sheila finished her breakfast. Sheila Cynthia attend with her age of ten the elementary school and was picked up by the school bus every morning.
Kyle and Toni went to junior high, with Toni going to high school the next year.
Shortl after Sheila left the house, they said goodbye to Iris too and got on their bikes.
And while Iris was cleaning up the kitchen, Brenda and Dylan came down the stairs.
„Good morning, you two." Iris smiled at them.
„Good morning." Brenda and Dylan said in unison.
They seemed quite relaxed but still a bit sleepy. Iris therefore suggested that she help her with some household chores before she went back to Hawaii. Brenda accepted the offer with thanks. After all, she still had things to do around the house. She enjoyed her coffee. She needed that too. She was still struggling with jet lag.
„I´m sorry for being not there in the morning." Brenda said sadly to Iris.
„Don´t worry, honey. The kids were glad you are back." Iris hugged her motherly.
„And thanks for you coming and babysitting." Dylan looked gratefully at his Mom.
Iris stroked her son´s cheek. „You know exactly I enjoy every second with the kids."
Dylan smiled and went to the coffee machine and poured himself a coffee as well. Now he couldn´t wait until Iris left to take a shower with Brenda.
At school, Toni ran into Sammy right away.
„And? Have you found out anything yet?" Sammy asked cautiously.
„No. Just that my Dad can write well." Toni laughed.
„Well, I found something interesting too." Sammy raised his eyebrows. „I knew my Mom kept a diary too. I didn´t think it that interesting. But now… I was looking for it while Mom and Dad were in the bath. And also quickly found." Sammy laughed.
Toni´s jaw dropped. Apparently, not only their parents publicy showed their feelings for each other. Apparently her Aunt and Uncle did too. She loved it.
„And what did Aunt Kelly write in it?"
„She started writing very late. Probably only during college. That´s all I know." Sammy shrugged.
Then they saw the school doors open and an attractive blonde was seen.
„What does Mom want here?" Sammy was irritated.
The blonde approached them both. „Sammy, you forgot your homework." She handed Sammy a folder.
Then she smiled at Toni. „Hi Toni. Are Brenda and Dylan back from France?"
„Yes, they came back yesterday." Toni looked at her Aunt.
Kelly Walsh looked damn good. No wonder her Uncle was so in love with her. She wore her blone hair parted on the right and down her shoulders. Her perfectly manicured hands reached into her briefcase and pulled out Sammy´s portfolio. Without a word, she handed it to her firstborn.
„I have to see Nate too. He also forgot his homework." She looked at the two. „Are you all right?" Her eyes were worried.
„Yes Mom. We´re fine. You´re just embarrassing." Sammy shook his head.
„I´m doing my best." Kelly laughed and kissed her son goodbye. She looked at her niece and also laughed and gave her a kiss on the nose.
„Bye Aunt Kelly."
„Bye you two. Have fun at school." She shouted to them before she left the building.
As soon as she got into her red convertible, she picked up her phone and dialed a number. It rang twice and a familiar voice came out of the phone.
„Brenda? Hey, it´s Kelly. Would you like to come over for lunch today?"
„Ah…sure Kel…um noon?" Brenda asked a little withdrawn.
„You are still jet lagged, aren´t you?" Kelly heard the weariness in Brenda´s voice.
„Yes, I still have so much to do here."
„Then we´ll do it tomorrow."
„All right Kel. See you tomorrow."
„Bye." Kelly hung up.
Brenda put her phone on her bedside table. She had so enjoyed her literally hot shower with Dylan. But now she wanted to take care of the house.
Toni wanted to go straight to Sammy´s after school. Together they wanted to compare the diaries.
Kelly just came in the door and greeted the two friendly. „Would you like me to make you a sandwich?" She called out to Sammy.
„Thanks Mom, you´re welcome."
A little later, Brandon came home from work. As soon as he got tot he front door, he loosened his tie and quickly put it away. His first course was to his wife in the kitchen.
„Hi sweetie."
„Hi honey." Brandon gave Kelly a kiss of welcome.
The next step was to the children´s room. Brandon pushed open the door. „Oh, hey Toni. Nice to see you." He smiled at his niece.
„Hi Uncle Brandon. I wanted to be with Sammy for a bit." Toni looked shyly at her Uncle.
„Does Brenda know where you are?"
„Yes. I told her."
„Understood. Have fun." Brandon closed the door again.
Sammy and Toni waited until Kelly handed them the sandwiches. Then Sammy opened his mother´s diary and begann to read.
26. December 1996
Dear Diary,
I got you from Valerie for Christmas today. I should write all my worries in you. Where should I start? Maybe I´ve had a shitty year…But that´s in the past. So I´ll start over now. New academic year, new luck…at least that´s what I thought. On 21th august I had to do an internship in a nursing home for my studies. That was interesting. A week later I visited David during a video clip and met Mark. He´s part of David´s team. Later in the nursing home Brandon came to see me. We are friendly Maybe we can stay friends. In the evening I danced with Mark at the Beverly Hills Beach Club. A week later I met Jimmy at the Friendship House. He has AIDS. He was infected by his unfaithful husband. Nat and Joane got married and Joane´s daughter Lilly came too. She flirts with Brandon and Brandon flirts with her. I´m animal jealous. A week later, Brandon met Tracy while auditioning for his new campus show. To make matters worse, I cut myself on Jimmy and have to take an AIDS test. I was asked about my sexual partners. Unfortunately the list is long. I stay up all night for the test result. Luckily it was negative. With relief, I walk to Jimmy´s stage program in After Dark. Mark is there too. One week later. I spend a lot of time with Jimmy, telling Donna and Clare of his bravery. In the afternoon I find out from the friendship house that Jimmy has died. I am devasted. Jimmy was the strongest and bravest man I have known. Luckily I had still the photo of us both. A little remembering. I would miss him. A week later, David threw a party at Mark´s mansion. He flirts heavily with me. Brandon and Tracy are also at the party. Then a fire broke out in the neigborhood. The memories came flooding back to me. I meet Brandon and we have a fight. A little later we all meet in the Peach Pit. This is where I meet Tracy. One week later. Mark and I are a couple. We´re celebrating Halloween at After Dark. I almost forgot about Brandon and Tracy. One Week later Mark cooked delicious for us. I can open up to him and tell him about my cocaine addiction. One week later. Mark told me he loves me. It´s a great feeling. I feel safe with him. The last time I felt like that was with Brandon. Speaking of which, Brandon spotted Mark and I kissing on campus. I didn´t care. Mark loved me. One week later. It´s Thanksgiving and our first weekend together is coming up. We´re going to Montecito. The food in the restaurant is delicious. However, not good anymore. Mark and I have food insurance. We shared the whole night between rest room and bedroom. One week later. Mark´s birthday is coming up. He´s still cute, but his jealousy of Brandon annoys me. Well, I´m still worried about Brandon. He is still important for me. Mark keeps asking for sex. But I don´t think about that. I think of Brandon. Steve stole his homework. Brandon got in big trouble but was acquitted because of Steve confessed. A week later I get this diary by Valerie as a gift.

Sammy closed his mother´s diary and shook his head.
„Who, the hell, is Mark?" Toni asked her cousin. „I always thought Uncle Brandon was the only man in Aunt Kelly´s life."
Sammy shook his head again.
„My Mom has a past…gosh. But…you said it right, who is this guy? I thought Mom and Dad had known each other since highschool? Does Mom have any friends after Dad? And how did they get back together?" He looked questioningly at Toni.
„I don´t know it. That´s why I can´t wait to read Dad´s diary again." Toni packed up her diary and turned to go.
„I hope Mom and Dad are awake. They must have slept all day. After a long flight."
„See you at school tomorrow." Sammy waved her goodbye.
Then Nath came towards them.
Nathaniel William Walsh was two years younger than Sammy and also had bright blue eyes and, unlike Sammy, straight hair. But also blonde.
„Hi Nath, bye Nath." Toni smiled at him goodbye and closed the front door.
„Is Toni driving home?" Kelly looked out the kitchen window.
„Yes. She hopes Aunt Brenda and Uncle Dylan slept in."
„Certainly. Yes, they had a long flight behind them."
Then Brandon came out of the livingroom. „Sweetie, Erica asks if she can come over for one hour. Just some more work to do on her report." He asked his wife with a unsure smile.
Kelly looked at the clock. „We want dinner soon."
Brandon came to her, wrapped his arms around her waist from behind and kissed her on the cheek.
„It will only take only one hour." He kissed her neck. „I´ll give you a massage afterwards and do whatever you want." The later words whispered Brandon in Kelly´s ear.
„You do what I want?" Kelly snuggled closer to Brandon´s body and pulled his arms tighter around her.
„I´m your slave." His voice was sexy.
Kelly turned and wrapped her arms around his neck.
„Exactly one hour. Not a minute longer."
Brandon pulled Kelly´s chin towards him and kissed her tenderly. They stopped short, kissed again and Kelly felt Brandon´s gentle tongue. She moaned into his mouth. Brandon was so good at kissing. She was crazy about his lips.
„Look forward to later."
„I can barely wait for it."
They reluctantly parted ways and Brandon texted Erica to come over.
Erica was on time. She thanked Brandon and Kelly and promissed to leave on time.
„No problem, Erica." Brandon took her jacket and led her into his homeoffice.
And while Kelly was eating with Sammy and Nath, Brandon was in his room with Erica.
After dinner, the boys were allowed to watch some TV, Kelly kept listening to the office door.
Kelly wasn´t actually jealous at all. Brandon had never given her the slightest reason. She heard her laugh. But she heard nothing disturbing. Brandon was open and friendly and loved to laugh. That´s why Kelly loved him so much. She heard their get up. She quickly went back into the kitchen. The office door openend and Brandon let Erica out first.
„Thank you Brandon. You have been a great help to me."
„No Problem." Brandon smiled heartly.
He brought her to the door. They hugged warmly and then Erica left the house.
„And? Were you successful?" Kelly touched to stay calm.
„Yeah, we´re done." Brandon came back to her. „Thanks for letting her come."
„It wasn´t long." Kelly looked at him in relief.
„Now I´m all yours." Brandon kissed her softly. „When the kids are in bed I´ll give you a massage."
Later, Brandon took Kelly´s hand an led her to the sofa. As soon as Kelly sat down, Brandon took a seat next to her, lifted her feet and began massaging them.
„Oh god." Kelly threw her head back.
Brandon smiled and looked at her perfectly pedicured toenails. They were colored red. Like her fingernails. He knew Kelly loved his foot massages.
He looked at her. „I love you Kel."
„I love you Brandon." She whispered.
And Brandon bent over her and kissed her tenderly. He was between her legs. Kelly wrapped her arms around him and deepened his kiss.
„What do you want sweetie?" Brandon mumbled against her lips. „I´ll do what you want."
„Make love with me, honey." Kelly breathed.
Brandon grabbed her waist and lifted her up. Kelly wrapped her thighs around his waist and, kissing, he carried her into their bedroom.
Sammy was still awake. He couldn´t get his mother´s entries out of his head. Did his mother have several ex-boyfriends? He always thought his father was the only one. Sammy had to smile ironical.
He had heard his parents having sex. Although quiet, he had heard his mother´s muffled screams of pleasure. From time to time he heard his parents having sex. And they probably had a lot of sex. But that showed Sammy how much his parents loved each other. That and the little things of cuteness between the both. Sammy liked the way his father used to look at his Mom. His eyes always lit up a little more when he saw Kelly. And his mother loved to wear his father´s shirts. And that pleased him the most. Especially because his Mom make pancakes for him and his brother the morning after while singing softly.
Still, he wanted to know more about his mother and decided to read on.
8. January 1997
Dear Diary,
Brandon and Mark applied tot he same academy. Brandon got the seat. Mark was pissed off and jealous of Brandon again. I hope he´s a good loser and comes to Brandon´s party. Instead, Mark freaked out in the parking lot. He accused me of not having sex with him because I wanted Brandon. He threatened me never to call him again. That will be easy for me.

Dear Diary,
Donna and Clare can´t see me sad. So they set me up a blind date with a friend of Clare´s. His name is Neil Philips and he is English. We went to dinner and it was awful. I told Donna about it an she wanted to set me up with the cameraman from the campus network. I declined with thanks. But somehow she made it. His name is Evan Potter. The four of us, Donna, David, Evan and I had a great night at After Dark. Donna Lewis has performed.

Tracy took Brandon to her parents´ house for the weekend. Meanwhile, Evan asked on a second date. I think he´s nice but I don´t know If I want more. There was a football party at After Dark. While people-watching, I met Tom Miller, Valerie´s school friend from Buffalo.

Dear Diary,
Today I visited Tom at his house. Nat asked me to drop off a tape for David. And since I still had things from Mark´s, I took the opportunity. Tom was happy to see me. I think he likes me too. I said I wanted to go to the cinema alone. Then I asked him if he wanted to come with me. He immediately agreed. We went to a matinee. Then we went to the Peach saw us. She was jealous. Later, Brandon and Tom played hockey against each other. Tom has been flirting heavily with me. He wanted a kiss for luck. He got one. He´s great at kissing. Valerie saw us and threatened later that I should keep my hands off him.

Dear Diary,
It´s wonderful with Tom. Our dates are great. But with Valerie, it´s terrible. She threatened Tom that she would fire him. He then resigned. And something terrible happened. Donna was taken hostage by Evan during the newscast. Along with Brandon, Tracy and a few others from the station. Thankfully, after endless hours, it was all over. Brandon was able to subdue Evan with the help of Donna.

Oh my god, Sammy thought. Another man…Tom. That couldn´t be true. Plus Valerie´s boyfriend. Maybe should Sammy should make a tally. He checked his watch. Only one entry.
14. February 1997
Dear Diary,
Today was Valentine´s day. I wanted to talk Tom into exercising this morning. Unfortunately, Valerie called and Tom was busy in the After Dark all day. In the evening, at the Valentine´s day party, I tried to persuade Tom to be my date. But he declined and later promised me ann intimate celebration. I couldn´t take my eyes off him all evening. I saw Valerie´s sad look. She went to the washroom. I followed her. In the washroom she finally collapsed and for the first time she opened up to me. That got me thinking. Yes, she was right. I just wanted to make her jealous. I went to Tom and told him the truth. I liked him but nothing more. After a nod, I went home alone.
