So, Toni and Sammy are home again. And now? Both, Dylan and Kelly know it´s now time for the horrible and embarrassing truth. And for us fans there is a trip back in the horrible S3.
Chapter 11 Dylan and Kelly
Sammy woke up. It was already light. How long had he been asleep?
His alarm clock said 9 a.m. He grabbed his phone and texted Toni.
S: R u in school today?
T: No, you wake me up
S: Sorry, I didn´t want.
T: Don´t worry.
S: I should stop. Probably Mom is still waiting. Bye
T: I hear u later
Sammy stood up and went downstairs to the kitchen.
He was right. Only Kelly sat there. Apparently his father and brother were already gone.
„I didn´t wake you up. Today you stay at home again. We have some things to talk about."
„I know." Sammy sat down at the breakfast table.
He could imagine that it was the same with Toni now.
„So Sammy, we´re all alone." Kelly handed him a plate of pancakes. „Let´s talk."
Sammy took a bite.
„I´m sorry we left." He looked sadly at his mother.
„I don´t even want to start with the fear we had for you, wether something happened to you. There could have been something else with you. The reason, or rather the reasons, we already know. You couldn´t bear to look at me."
„Yes, that you had a lot of boyfriends…even Uncle Dylan…" Sammy made a face in disgust.
„Sammy, don´t you believe I´m sorry for everything? That I wouldn´t like to be sixteen and do everything differently? Believe me, I regret almost everything in my past."
The two looked at each other.
„Why Uncle Dylan, Mom? Why?"
Kelly took a deep breath.
„It started in the summer before our senior year. Donna and I were going to Paris. But then Grandma Jackie got Aunt Erin and I didn´t want to leave. Brenda left for that."
„And you took the opportunity." Sammy´s glare was angry.
„Not at the beginning. But then…we spent a lot of time together and I enjoyed him around me. I knew why Brenda loved him so much. I liked him."
Kelly paused a little.
„We spent every day together. And at some point we kissed. Once Uncle David even caught us in our cabana at the beach club."
„You kissed?" Sammy´s voice trembled.
„Yes." Kelly´s voice trembled too.
Sammy´s head fell into his hands.
„Once Brenda and Donna got back here in Beverly Hills we decided not to tell anyone. Dylan and Brenda were happy again. But me, stupid cow, I was jealous. I had so enjoyed Dylan´s attention. But he had chosen Brenda. And rather than leave them both alone, I continued to flirt with Dylan when Brenda wasn´t with him. I drove to him secretly and sought his closeness. I hoped so he and Brenda would break up. And then they really broke up. And Dylan came to me."
Sammy´s head was still between his hands.
„Dylan wanted to date me. And that was something I had always wanted. A date with him. We went to a restaurant. But as we were about to leave, Brenda spotted us. It was awful. Brenda was shocked. I looked at Dylan and in that moment I saw anger and hurt in his eyes. And a second later I got it…He was only dating me because of he was hurt because of Brenda. I was only his second choice. I was only because Brenda broke up with him."
Sammy cried again.
Kelly continued.
„Every normal-thinking woman would have said „Stop" by now. I should have said No to Dylan back then."
„But you didn´t." Sammy looked red-eyed at his mother.
„But. Because this situation was enough for me. I drove home angry. All three of us had fallen out."
„And how are you…"
„A little later Dylan threw a party for his Dad. And I was the only one who came to the party."
Sammy already guessed.
„Yeah, I was a mean bitch. Yes, I wanted to take him away from Brenda. Yes, I took the opportunity that she was in Paris and that she didn´t show up for the party. Yes, I was happy when he was my boyfriend. And Yes, it was a mistake." Kelly cried.
„Did you love Dylan?" Sammy´s voice trembled again.
„No. That´s is it. I didn´t want him for love, just to show that I could get the hottest guy in school. Dylan was kind of a trophy for me. We were even voted the most beautiful couple."
Sammy looked at her and shook his head.
„You´re right. I was stupid. I had this boyfriend just to show how great I was. And we also noticed that something like this can not work. How many times do you think we´ve argued?"
„And why did you guys stay together?"
„I guess neither of us wanted to be alone. And during the freshman year of college, Dad and I became closer. And only then did I feel feelings that I had never had with another man. He made me feel important and special. He really listened to me and took me seriously."
Sammy looked at his mother.
„And then you broke up with Dylan?"
„Yes. At the end oft he freshman year of college. We had a terrible argument. We realized we didn´t fit together at all. Then we broke up finally and I went to live with your Dad."
„Were you friends with Steve Sanders too?"
„Yes, he was my first boyfriend."
„You had everyone in the group." Sammy shook his head. „Wasn´t that stupid for you youself?"
„Honestly no. Not at first. It made me feel wanted."
„I call it something else." Sammy looked at her reproachfully.
„I know. Yes, Yes, I was a bitch."
„Why did you have so many boyfriends? By the way how many?"
Kelly thought. „Fifteen."
„What!" Sammy almost choked.
„Yes, now the number seems high to me too."
„It´s high."
„Like I said I´d love to undo it." Kelly looked down. „I´m so so sorry that I gave you so much grief and sadness and anger because of my past." Kelly took Sammy´s hand and tears rolled down her face. „I really always wished that your Dad was the only one in my life."
Sammy took her hand and squeezed it tight.
„And you can believe me on thing…" Kelly´s voice trembled "…your Dad is the love of my life. And I had to suffer and fight a lot to get it."
„I believe you."
Sammy stood up and hugged his mother warmly. Together they held on.
„Do you have any questions?"
„No Mom. Not anymore."
„I love you Sammy."
„I love you Mom."
Kelly kissed Sammy on the top of his head and hugged him again.
„Would you like to continue reading my diary?"
„If there aren´t any surprises yet?"
„No. It´s all behind you already." Kelly smiled.
„Are we having breakfast together?" Sammy smiled at her.
„Sure." Kelly also got some pancakes, turned on the radio and sat down with her son, laughing.
And Sammy was right. Toni also stayed at home.
Toni woke up by her phone. After she answered Sammy´s message she went downstairs.
Brenda, Kyle and Sheila were already out of the house.
Dylan had offered her a motorcycle ride after breakfast. Toni agreed.
And so Dylan and Toni drove up the coast to Paradise Cove.
They sat down on the sand on the beach.
„Why did you run away Toni? And why to Minnesota?"
„It´s probably your genes." Toni answered gruffly.
„Antonia." Dylan gave her a stern look.
„I just wanted to get away. Away from you."
„You already wrote that in you letter. That´s all? And why Minnesota?"
„We weren´t allowed to go to Hawaii." Toni answered.
„Mom and I almost died here. We were so afraid for you."
„I know. I´m so sorry now too." Toni cried.
„Let´s forget the whole thing." Dylan wrapped his arm around his daughter. „So what do you want to know?"
„Everything. Why, Why, Why? Everything."
Dylan took a deep breath.
„The relationship with Mom was very intense from the start. It was like we were already adults. But we were only sixteen years old. And Grandpa Jim had always kept an eye on me. We eventually went to Baja even though Grandpa said it wasn´t allowed. We were spotted and there was a lot of trouble. Grandpa asked me to stay away from Mom. But I didn´t want to listen to him. I didn´t know anything like that from Grandpa Jack. You know what my childhood was like."
Toni nodded knowingly.
„To ease our strained relationship, Mom was sent to Paris for a summer vacation instead of Kelly. In these time Kelly and I spent a lot of time at the beach. And I enjoyed this freedom with her. We didn´t have anyone around us."
„And kissed Kelly." Toni´s voice trembled.
„Yes." Dylan closed his eyes briefly. „We were even spotted by David once. We knew it was wrong. And then when Mom came back, she told she had a little flirtation in Paris."
Toni looked at him.
„I wasn´t thrilled but she convinced me it was harmless."
„Did you tell Mom about Kelly too?"
„No. I admit it. I was a coward. I was afraid. Kelly and I decided not to tell anyone about it. I was just glad Mom was with me again. It was also going very well between us for a while. It was wonderful. But somehow Kelly´s and my paths always led together. About a few weeks later Mom´s flirtation from Paris surfaced and she broke up with me. No wonder. I had completely pushed her away from me. Emotionally. I wasn´t nice to her at that time. I probably would have reacted the same way she did."
Dylan kept looking at Toni.
„However. After Mom broke up with me and went to Kelly and wanted to date her. But, on our first date, Mom spotted us and was very shocked. She was mad at Kelly for dating me, she was mad at me for dating Kelly and I was mad at Mom because she broke my heart and because I saw the guy she left me for. Kelly and I left and outside Kelly was mad at me because she realized in that moment she was only the second choice. Finally the three of us fell out. To wrap things up…when Grandpa Jack threw a party because he got out of prison…you know the story already…I was so happy. I would have been so happy if Mom would have come to meet him too. It would have meant so much to me. But No. Grandpa Jim had forbidden her. He didn´t want me with Brenda, and he certainly didn´t want Brenda with my Dad. And that was finally enough for me. Kelly was there and that´s when I decided I wanted to be with her."
Dylan looked at his daughter. Toni was close to tears.
„But you have to believe me one thing…even though we were apart…I never once stopped loving Mom. She was always in my heart. Except I was eighteen, she wasn´t. I wanted my freedom. No more feelings. I was so fed up with being hurt. And with Kelly, I wasn´t worried about that. If I hurt her, I didn´t care at all. All I knew was that no matter what I did, she wouldn´t leave me."
„Could it be that you were just taking advantage of Aunt Kelly?"
„If that´s how you want to see it, yes. I think we took advantage of each other. She was the prettiest girl in school and I was probably the „hottest" boy in school back then. I think that´s what kept us together."
„And what´s happened next?"
„It came as it had to come…we realized apart from our freedom, we had absolutely nothing in common. No common interests. You know I talk to Mom about everything. That didn´t work at all with Kelly. She never understood me like that or had any understanding for me. It was always about her and her desires. We kept arguing."
„Why didn´t you go back to Mom?" Toni cried a little. Her voice trembled.
„Because I wasn´t sure. We met just bevor we started our freshman year of college. We spent a day together. It was great. We spoke about everything. Just like the old times. We were fishing and in a situation Mom was very close to me. I smelled her hair and suddenly she was in my arms. My heart was beating. We looked at each other. But Mom said she didn´t want a relationship with me. I asked her why not? She said she didn´t want to ruin our good connection again. I was very disappointed. But she was right." Dylan looked out to sea.
Then Toni saw her father´s tears too.
„I wanted her back. I missed her terribly. But I hurt her badly. I had to let her go." Dylan kept crying.
After a few seconds, Dylan regained his composure.
„The thing with Kelly and I could only go wrong. And right. A little later she fell in love with Brandon. Really in love. We had a terrible fight and finally we broke up and she went to him."
He took Toni warmly in his arms.
„It should always be Mom. Never anyone else." He kissed the top of his daughter´s head. „Mom was never out of my heart. I have never forgotten her. She is the love of my life."
„I hope it doesn´t get that complicated for me?"
„You don´t know that beforehand. Sometimes you have to take a lot of detours to find love. Uncle Brandon knows that too."
Toni nodded.
„And I can tell you Grandpa Jim was right about some things. We should have listened to him more. I can say it now. Now I´m a father. He was right about a lot of things. He knew I was a bad person for his daughter at the time and I should have conformed and respected him. But I was just me."
Toni nodded again.
„Are all your questions answered now?"
„Yes I think so."
„I love you Antonia."
„I love you Daddy."
They hugged lovingly.
At home, Brenda waited anxiously for the two of them.
But when she saw father and daughter enter the house laughing happily, she was relieved.
Kyle and Sheila, on the other hand, just wanted to know how the bike rode.
„Want to go again?" Dylan asked, laughing.
„Yeah." The two shouted.
„But only once around the block."
The two put on their jackets.
And while Dylan was out with the kids, Toni helped her mother in the kitchen.
„Mom, how was it for you when Dad left you? For Kelly."
Brenda took a deep breath.
„It was awful. It hurt a lot. I have suffered greatly. I couldn´t look at them for a while. But Grandma Iris helped me a lot. She showed me that I can be stronger than I was. She gave me on of her crystals and it helped. I was really stronger than Kelly and Dylan combined. I´v watched the two fight over and over again. Dad never looked really happy with her either. And deep down I also knew Dad wasn´t happy. But that´s the way he wanted to live his life. So should he. And after a while, at the college, we spent a day together. In one situation I suddenly was in his arms. We looked at each other. But I told him right away I didn´t want a relationship with him. Dad asked me why not. And I told him I don´t want to ruin our new connection. He didn´t like that but he accepted it."
„And then?" She looked proudly at her mother.
„While Dad and Kelly were having their wonderful relationship…" Brenda held up two fingers in the air „…and fighting over and over again, I started dating too. Grandpa Jim had introduced me to an attractive young man."
„What was his name?" Toni was curious.
They didn´t hear Dylan and the kids come back home.
Just as Dylan walked into the kitchen, Brenda said „Stuart."
Dylan rolled his eyes. Toni immediately noticed is look.
„Stuart" Dylan put extra derogatory emphasis on that name.
Brenda laughed.
Toni raised her eyebrow questioningly.
„Well Toni, now comes the part where your Dad suffered. Because he was pretty jealous of Stuart."
Dylan said nothing. But Toni felt her mother was right.
„Your Dad saw me dancing with Stuart and how he kissed me and he hugged me…"
Toni saw Dylan hit a ledge with his fist.
„But why was Dad jealous?"
„Because I knew Stuart was the best for your Mom at the time. He could give her what I couldn´t. And it hurt like hell to see."
„Well done Mom. That showed Dad still loved you."
„I knew that too. But your Dad is right about that. Stuart was the better one for me at the time and I really enjoyed that time. We even almost got married."
„Mom!"
„But thanks to your Uncle, we did everything we could to prevent this marriage."
„Fortunately. But we stayed friends. At least until he showed his true colors. Then it was finally over."
„And then we slowly found each other again." Dylan hugged Brenda from behind and kissed her on the cheek.
„Tell me Mom. If Dad was dating Kelly…you could have hooked up with Steve."
„Better not." Dylan mumbled and walked to the fridge. For him it was over.
„Why?" Toni suddenly snapped at her father. „You can bang Aunt Kelly and Mom can´t?"
Dylan jumped. He wanted to reprimand her but Brenda intervened.
„Yes, I could have had the opportunity but I didn´t want to. Steve was too important to me as a friend. Besides, I wasn´t Kelly."
And to calm his daughter down. Added Dylan.
„Also, unlike me, your Mom wasn´t a callous asshole. She would never have taken advantage of anyone."
„She´s Mom." Toni hugged her mother.
In the evening at the dining table, Sheila asks.
„Mom, Dad, can Ruby come over tomorrow afternoon?"
„If Donna doesn´t mind?"
„Yes, she wanted to come to us."
„Okay…" Brenda shrugged.
She knew Donna and David´s daughter. Not she didn´t like Ruby. She just found her a bit odd. She didn´t like going to other people´s homes.
„Great, let her know tomorrow." Sheila smiled.
„But I want Donna to know, too."
And as if Donna could hear her, Brenda´s phone rang and Donna´s face was visible.
„Hey Donna. We were just talking about you."
„Hi Brenda." Donna sounded harried.
„Everything OK?"
„Yeah, I´m just stressed about the new collection. Ruby would like to come to you again."
„Already told Sheila. Yes, gladly."
„Tomorrow after school?"
„Gladly."
„Thank you Brenda." Donna hung up again.
„Okay, that´s settled too." Brenda shrugged.
After their shower together, Dylan and Brenda dried off.
„For still being so jealous of Stuart." Brenda stepped in front of Dylan and kissed him.
„It drove me crazy seeing him with you."
„What would you have liked to do most?"
„I would have caught you…" he took Brenda´s naked body „…would have sat you on the dining table…" he sat her on the sink „…and would have shoved my fingers inside you…" he shoved two fingers inside her.
Brenda closed her eyes and groaned.
Dylan let his fingers circle, seizing the moment and cupped her lips with his. The quickly deepened the kiss.
Dylan pulled his fingers out of her.
Her lips slowly parted and Brenda´s eyes fell down. Dylan was ready for her.
„And what would you have done then?"
„Then I would have taken off my pants and taken you straight to the dining table." Dylan´s gaze pierced her.
„Then take me Dylan." Brenda could barely speak.
And Dylan took her face between his hands and said the words he wanted to say to her years ago.
„I chose you. I want you Bren. I always wanted only you."
They pressed their lips together and Dylan lifted Brenda from the sink, she wrapped her legs around his body and a little later she felt the soft mattress under her and Dylan inside her.
„Oh Bren…" Dylan whispered, sliding his tongue into her mouth.
