Chapter 6
September 14th. Beacon Academy. Combat class.
It was as one-sided a battle as it could be.
Penny's blades danced around her in perfect unison and rhythm. Her opponent, a boy wielding two swords, his eyes earthly brown color, did what he could to gain any advantage. Any! But even his best efforts were fruitless, and he found himself completely helpless in face of her great skill. To put it simply, she overwhelmed him with quick, precise slashes of her many blades, and in matter of minute or two, he was down on his knee. His face speaking of anguish, and he was well aware that he was a strike or two away from losing the fight.
He bit his lip angrily.
Being outmatched like this was humiliating enough, but…but she also smiled. That damned bitch was actually smiling at him. Instead of any form of frown or heck, even a cocky glare would do, her face was plastered with a smile. As if she wasn't even aware that she was in a fight right now.
He bit his lip harder.
She was...she was just so…."Hraa!" He bellowed in his last attempt to try and strike her down.
Swish! Swoosh!
Two blades, two perfect strikes hit him square on the chest-plate, and he fell flat on his back. His aura dipping in red and thus, signaling the fight was over. He lost with-out hitting her, no, scratching her once.
The mass of students grew restless. Stares of many kinds, and a sea of voices came to life like a newborn. And engulfed in all that, so did new rumors and just blatant lies about Penny. Fortunately, some of the students were above that.
"That girl's a worthy challenger! Yep!" Nora exclaimed, clearly excited at the prospect of fighting her one day.
"She most certainly is going to be a tough one to beat." Pyrrha voiced her opinion too, and made a mental note to herself to keep an eye on this girl.
"She's strong, no kidding." Jaune agreed with his friends. Sure, the guy wasn't exactly anything special, but she dismantled him like he'd never been in a fight before. She...she might even give Pyrrha a hard time. He thought to himself, and then watched as Penny approached her downed opponent. And she then offered him a helping hand.
"Though you performed poorly, your effort was admirable. Don't give up, and you'll be a fine huntsman one day!"
He slapped her hand away. "And now you're just openly mocking me…" He seethed through clenched teeth.
She took a step back, but then moved closer to him yet again. "What? No! I wasn't mocking you! I swear!"
"Like hell you weren't. Just leave me alone you bit-" He cut himself short as he noticed the one Glynda Goodwitch approaching them. However, if her hard stare was anything to go by, she most certainly didn't miss the kind of language he was about to use. He voicelessly cursed to himself, and his resentment for Penny grew even fiercer.
"Some useful pointers, Ms Polendina and Mr Schwarz." Despite the clear cue, she remained professional and level-headed, and started to give some useful tips to both of them.
Penny did register her voice, and the words were eternally sealed in her memory unit, but she was a lot more concerned about something else entirely. What did I do? What did I say to upset him?
She didn't understand, but she really, really wanted to.
